Abstract

International audience; The future SPIRAL-2 facility is mainly composed of a high-power superconducting driver LINAC, delivering a high-intensity deuteron, proton and heavy ions beams. The first two beams are particularly well suited to the construction of a neutron beam and irradiation facility called Neutrons for Science (NFS). Thick C and Be target-converters with incident deuteron beam will produce an intense white neutron spectrum, while thin 7Li target and incident proton beam allows generating quasi-monoenergetic neutrons. The 1–40MeV neutron energy range will be covered and characterized by very intense fluxes available. The primary ion beam characteristics (energy, time resolution, intensity, etc.) are adequate to create a neutron time-of-flight facility. Irradiation stations for neutron, proton and deuteron induced reactions could also be built in order to perform cross-sections measurements by activation techniques. In this paper we will discuss the potential of this new installation to investigate numerous topics, both in fundamental and applied physics. In particular, cross section measurements could be performed for different purposes like nuclear data evaluation, fission and fusion technology, Accelerator Driven Systems, nuclear medicine, astrophysics, etc.

Abstract

An experimental spectroscopic investigation of some neutron rich Mg and Al isotopes around the shell closure N=20 has been performed. The delayed neutron and γ spectra, following the β-decay of 33Mg and 35Al have been measured using the delayed neutron detector array TONNERRE coupled with high efficiency EXOGAM clover detectors, a LEPS detector and eight low-energy neutron detectors. A detailed analysis of such spectra allows one to construct the level schemes of their daughters, 32,33Al and 34,35Si. The resulting spectroscopic information will provide stringent tests of large scale shell model calculations including np - nh excitations aimed at the understanding of the structural effects occurring in this region. © 2006 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Measurements of the masses and excited state energies of neutron rich nuclei /sup 62/Fe, /sup 68/Ni, /sup 74/Zn and /sup 80/Ge have been performed with the (/sup 14/C, /sup 16/O) reaction. The masses are compared with the Myers and Garvey-Felson predicted values. The position of the first 2/sup +/ state is reviewed for the even-even isotopes of the four elements. (16 refs).

Abstract

Information and Communication Technologies change the way people consider information and knowledge. Their use in e-learning raises orientation problems while navigating within technological devices. First of all, the learner-subject must locate the tools and services at his disposal during all of the training. To help orientation, resorting to the spatial metaphor is frequent. This research is based on results of some empirical survey. It is the opportunity of questioning oneself as to the limits of this type of metaphor by studying mental representations that users may have. Solutions could be brought by making spatial metaphor intervene more as a tool of information processing than as a tool of software localization.

Abstract

A β-decay experiment on nuclei in the region of N=28 has been performed at the GANIL facility. New measured half-lives for the Si isotopes from N=25 to N=28 are reported and discussed in the light of the deformation occuring in this region. Comparison with QRPA calculations suggests that a weakening of the spin-orbit force occurs for the very neutron-rich Si isotopes. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
