Abstract: A consistent description of gamma -ray spectra produced by fast-neutron-induced (n,x gamma ) reactions can be achieved using statistical models for the de-excitation of highly excited states by a superposition of equilibrium and pre-equilibrium emission of particles and/or gamma quanta. Results for Si and Fe at En=14 MeV are discussed.
