Culbertson sets out (1) to provide a methodological criticism of contemporary macroeconomics, (2) to suggest the logical foundations of a new macroeconomics, and (3) to make a searching critique of the actions and words of those authorities in charge of monetary policy, budgetary policy, and debt-management policy. In my opinion, he succeeds only in the last of his objectives--his critique of economic policy is often moralistic and never entirely original, but it is generally valid.
In his methodological criticism, Culbertson attacks contemporary macrotheory on several grounds, the most important being its static nature. Since, as seems obvious to Culbertson, the real world is dynamic in some sense, static theory seems to be completely irrelevant. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published
