In Porto in the 19th century, we highlight two former goldsmiths who received noble titles after abandoning the goldsmithery business. The Baron of Ermida (1809-1872), in Porto, and the Viscount of Lascasas (1822-1876), in Rio de Janeiro, had a goldsmith shop, the latter having returned to the city of Porto. His personal trajectory, which will be presented, shows how it was possible, in Liberal Portugal, for former goldsmiths, later owners and dealers, to receive titles of nobility.
