Abstract

This article presents a study regarding the cis- and trans-acting elements involved in the regulation of nitric oxide reductase gene in Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It discusses that the ability of Neisseria gonorrhoeae to reduce nitric oxide may have significant immunomodulatory effects on the host during infection. A Gram-negative diplococcus Neisseria gonorrhoeae is the causative agent of the sexually transmitted disease gonorrhea. The infection may cause various complications, including disseminated gonococcal infection and pelvic inflammatory disease.
