New azo Schiff base disperse dyes based on a chromene moiety were synthesized by reacting (2-amino-7-hydroxy-4-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4 H-chromene-3 carbonitrile) and(2-amino-4-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-7-hydroxy-4 H-chromene-3-carbonitrile), with vanillin and ninhydrin, producing new chromene Schiff base derivatives, which in turn were coupled with 2-chloro-4-nitroaniline diazonium salt to give new 4 azo disperse dyes (1–4). The structures of the prepared dyes were confirmed using elemental analysis, 1HNMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and IR. The synthesized dyes were applied to polyester and nylon fabrics using different dyeing techniques: high temperature- high pressure, and ultrasonic dyeing methods. The highest K/S values for all investigated dyes were achieved usinga high temperature-high pressure dyeing technique. Also, the color reflectance of all synthesized dyes with different dyeing shades (1%, 2%, and 3%) was obtained. The fastness properties of the dyed samples using the investigated dyes showed good color fastness toward light, washing, rubbing, and perspiration fastness. The presence of a chromene moiety and Schiff base in the investigated dyes promotes a higher antimicrobial activity on nylon and polyester fabrics against all tested bacteria (E. coli gram-negative and Staphylococcus aureus gram-positive) and two fungi, Aspergillus Niger and Candida albicans. Natural dyes are soft, eco-friendly, and non-toxic colours for silk fabric, imparting high compatibility with the environment. Among the different natural dyestuffs derived from different parts of plants, the peel of the Parkia roxburghii pod is thriving as one of the potential natural substantive dyes. The study reveals optimization of dye extraction for dyeing silk fabric. Colour strength (K/S) and absorbance of dye extract were evaluated for optimization of extraction and dyeing parameters. The optimized ML ratio (material and solvent proportions) was 1:30 for 60 min of boiling at 80 °C under acidic medium. Use of natural and synthetic mordants produced different colour patterns giving two classes, YR, light to dark brownish colour. CuSO4, lime juice and Terminalia chebula mordants produced better wash fastness and light fastness in meta-mordant conditions. A series of novel reactive dyes D1–D3 based on vinamidinium salt were designed and synthesized. Bis(monochlorotriazine) was introduced as the reactive group and sodium sulfonate was the water‐soluble group. Their photophysical properties were studied systematacially. The strong and sharp ground‐state absorption peak in the 250–320 nm range in the UV‐vis absorption spectrum of the aqueous solution could be attributed to the 1π–π* transition by the parent structure of the dyes, and the relatively broad absorption peak in the range of 300–650 nm could be attributed to the 1π–π* mixed intramolecular charge transfer. By applying this series of reactive dyes to the dyeing of four fabrics (silk, cotton, polyester/cotton blends, and polyester), the dyeing depths were in the range of 5.2–28.6 under salt‐free conditions. The results show that D3 with higher planarity can increase the dyeing depth. At length, fastening tests on dyed cotton fabrics and silk showed that this series of reactive dyes had a color fastness between grades 3 and 5 for abrasion and soap‐washing. Purpose: In recent years, natural dyes have attracted significant attention globally because of growing public awareness of the environment and health hazards associated with synthetic dyes. Natural dyes can provide special aesthetic qualities as well as the ethical significance of a product which is environmentally friendly. By keeping this burning issue in mind, this study aims to explore the dyeing properties of various unexplored environmentally friendly natural dyes. Design/methodology/approach: In this study, the aqueous extract of coconut leaves is used for dyeing purpose. The silk and jute fabrics were dyed with the extract alone as well as in combination with metal salts as mordants by employing pre-, meta- and postmordanting techniques. The dyeing properties of the colored samples were evaluated by measuring their color strength; CIEL*a*b* values; and color fastness to washing, light and rubbing. Findings: A yellow shade was achieved when the fabric samples were dyed solely with the extract. However, shade variations were observed when different mordants and mordanting techniques were applied. In all the cases, metallic salts improved the color fastness properties of dyed samples to washing, light and rubbing especially for the silk fabric. Originality/value: To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first report on a natural dye extracted from the leaves of coconut. Leaf as the source of dye has added an extra advantage, as it is reproducible and can be collected easily without harming the plants. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to check the effectivity of plasma in the natural dyeing of polyester fabric using four natural dyes – Turkey red, Lac, Turmeric and Catechu using plasma and alum mordant. The surface modification on the polyester fabric by plasma along with the use of benign mordant alum is studied. The enhancement of dyeability in polyester fabric with natural dyes is the main focus. Due to surface modification, the wettability increases, which leads to better dye uptake. Better dye uptake and better dye adherence are the main objectives. Design/methodology/approach: Plasma-mediated natural dyeing is the main design of this research work. The effect of plasma treatment on surface modification of synthetic fabric polyester and its subsequent effects on their dyeing with different natural dyes, namely, Turkey red, Lac, Turmeric and Catechu are studied. The dyeability was further enhanced by the use of alum as mordant. The main focus is on the betterment of natural dyeing of polyester fabric using sustainable natural dyes resources for dyeing and to reduce wastewater contamination from the usage of toxic additive chemicals for cleaner production. Findings: Plasma-mediated and alum-mordanted dyeing method facilitated very good dyeability of all the four natural dyes, namely, Turkey red, Lac, Turmeric and Catechu. Color strength (K/S) values and fastness properties of plasma-treated samples were far better than untreated samples. The synergistic effect of plasma and alum mordanting has made natural dyeing of polyester very easy with very good fastness results. Natural dyeing of polyester after 2 min of plasma treatment showed excellent and desirable results. The process is also easy to be adapted by industries. Research limitations/implications: As polyester is hydrophobic, natural dyeing of polyester fabric is not very easy, but with plasma-mediated natural dyeing, it becomes a very facile dyeing method; thus, there are no limitations. Use of plasma has reduced the need for any chemical additives which are usually added during the dyeing process. Practical implications: This process of natural dyeing of polyester fabric can be scaled up to industrial dyeing with natural dyes. Plasma pretreatment of the fabric followed by premordanting with alum has facilitated the natural dyeing well. Social implications: Use of plasma in place of chemical modifiers can be a green and environmentally friendly approach for sustainable coloration of polyester fabric, providing a clean wet processing for textiles dyeing. Originality/value: The synergistic effect of plasma-mediated and alum-mordanted natural dyeing of polyester has not been attempted by any researcher. Semi-rigid V-shaped bis(N,N-trimellitoyl)-4,4′-oxydianiline linker was designed to construct a novel mesoporous cobalt (II) metal organic framework (Co-MOF). Optical band gap of 3.23 eV was obtained using a Tauc formula, which confirms the semiconducting property of the synthesized Co-MOF. Further, the resulting Co-MOF, as photocatalyst, was investigated in environmental application for the reduction of toxic Cr (VI) to less toxic Cr (III) as well as in the degradation of organic rhodamine B (Rh B) dye in an aqueous medium under natural sunlight. As pH value is essential for the Cr (VI) reduction reaction, thus control experiment was conducted in the acidic pH range 2–6, where 90.76, 77.23 and 37.43% of reduction was observed at pH of 2, 4 and 6, respectively. Furthermore, the degradation of Rh B dye was also performed, where 98.89% degradation obtained within 90 min. Textile industry uses large quantities of different dyes to fulfill the rapidly growing demand for the dyed textile products, resulting in more dye consumption, greater dye discharge as textile dyeing effluent, and higher cost. To decrease the dyes consumption, this research evaluates the performance of novel ozone-based dyeing processes for cotton fabric. So far, reported ozone-based processes for textile involve the usage of high ozone intensity for removing impurities, discoloration of solution, color fading in denim and other fabrics. This research is a first effort, which concentrates on the performance enhancement of the exhaust dyeing process for cotton fabrics through the application of controlled and lower amount of ozone. In this research, ozone dosage is controlled through ozone generator knob to only 0.5 g/h (10%), 1 g/h (20%), 1.5 g/h (30%), 2 g/h (40%), and 2.5 g/h (50%). In contrast, ozone dosage reaches up to 60 g/h in cotton bleaching. This research evaluates the four ozone-based dyeing processes for cotton fabrics using two primary reactive dyes and two primary direct dyes under different concentrations of ozone. Effect of ozonation was evaluated for both direct and reactive dyes at four stages, namely during dyeing, dry ozonation before dyeing, pre-wet ozonation before dyeing, and ozonation after dyeing. Results showed that K/S value of the optimized ozone-based processes was better than the conventional exhaust process. For instance, K/S value for benchmarked conventional dyed sample was 2.147 for reactive yellow, and it was 3.271 (33.5% higher) for the "ozonation after dyeing" process. Similar trends were observed for many other trials, resulting in higher K/S value. In addition, the fastness properties of the optimized processes were comparable with the conventional exhaust process. FTIR and SEM analysis were also performed on selective ozone dyed fabrics. Chinese royal textiles of the Qing dynasty are widely collected around the world, creating a significant demand for dye identification in these textiles. However, the need for sampling in conventional analytical methods greatly limits their applicability. To address this issue, a non‐invasive analysis method based on excitation–emission matrix (EEM) fluorescence was developed. In this study, the EEM spectra of 18 typical natural dyeing recipes used for royal textiles of the Qing dynasty were systematically characterized. The results demonstrated that EEM fluorescence is effective in discriminating between natural dyes with similar colour hues and various dyeing techniques. AbstractIn this study, it was aimed to analyze the effects of liposomes on the dyeing of polyacrylonitrile fabrics. For this purpose, firstly liposome synthesis was carried out, and then liposome production was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis. Additionally, zeta potential measurements were carried out to see whether stable structures were formed. Then, a selected basic dye was encapsulated with a liposome and the possibilities of using these capsules as alternative to retarders in the dyeing of polyacrylonitrile fabrics were examined. According to results obtained, it can be said that the 1% solution of synthesized liposomes creates a more stable suspension with a polydispersity index of 0.472 and the average particle size of 165.2 nm. On the other hand, it has been revealed that if 1% liposome is used in dyeing, a kind of retarder effect can be achieved in the dyeing of polyacrylonitrile fabrics. Moreover, it can be said that the decrease in color efficiency, that is, the loss of yield, caused by the use of liposome at the end of dyeing is lower compared to the retarder. This is also a very important issue, because a good retarder is expected to slow down the dye uptake, but not reduce the dye intake too much at the end of the dyeing. Dyeing levelness (%) was found to be 96.1, 97.4, and 97.1 for dyeings without auxiliary, with 1% cationic retarder and with 1% liposome, respectively. In this study, catalytic-degradation of dyes such as methylene blue (MB) and malachite green (MG) was carried out by using silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), obtained by adopting the flower extract of Luffa acutangula (LA). The biogenic synthesised LA-AgNPs were characterised by using UV-Vis spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), DLS (dynamic light scattering) with zeta potential analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopic(HR-TEM) analyses. The typical surface plasmon resonance peak of LA-AgNPs was observed at 428 nm, as confirmed from UV-Vis spectrum. The formation of LA-AgNPs was observed through colour transformation from pale yellow to dark-brown due to the reduction of Ag+. Synthesised LA-AgNPs displayed spherical shape and face-centred cubic structure with an average size of 10–30 nm. The effects of various parameters such as initial extract concentration, time and time process were studied. The degradation reactions of MB and MG are found to follow the Langmuir–Hinshelwood mechanism with a pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The difficulty of dyeing is a disturbing problem for the various application of polyimide fabrics. Alkali treatment has been widely used as a preliminary step before dyeing, denoted as a two‐bath method. With more attention being paid to energy resources, this work aims to explore more economical and environmentally friendly dyeing technology, combining the alkali treatment and the dyeing process together, named a one‐bath method. Surprisingly, the K/S value of the one‐bath dyed fabric is much higher than that of the two‐bath sample, in which the red colour value is enhanced by 59.9% for the one‐bath sample. As for the effect of dyeing on the physical properties, the two‐step method has been demonstrated to exert more severe damage on the fibre, with lower crystallinity and tensile strength. To explain such results, it is deduced that when alkali is added together with dyes, it can play a bridge role between the dyes and the fibre, anchoring the dyes wherever the alkali can permeate. In this research article, it is reported the preparation and characterisation of four types of blended cotton‐polyester based textile materials in different dye ratios with four kinds of natural dyes of agro waste (walnut shell, onion peel) and wildflowers (tansy, Hypericum) with/without mordants as antibacterial and antifungal species for shoe materials. The dyed samples were spectrophotometrically measured and the results were obtained as colour strength (K/S) as well as CIELab values. As a result, dyed fabrics with natural dyes showed yellow, grey, orange and brown colours. With the help of a mordant, aluminium‐potassium, the dyed fabrics obtained natural, not distorted shades of these colours, and with the addition of copper sulphate, they showed changing yellow to light green, orange to dark red, grey to a darker shade of grey and brown to a darker colour. The dyed samples were tested for colour fastness to circle rubbing and satisfactory results were found. The fabrics dyed only with natural dyes and treated with natural dye and mordants were evaluated for antibacterial and antifungal properties against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans. The results indicated that fabrics treated with these natural dyes and mordants had excellent antibacterial and antifungal activity. All natural dyes and mordants used in this study were the most effective and showed the maximum inhibition zone, indicating the best antimicrobial and antifungal activity against tested microbes. This study investigated the degradation and removal efficiency of reactive and direct dyes using various treatment processes, including UV alone, peroxide alone, Fenton, photo-Fenton, and UV-peroxide. The decolorization results showed that UV and peroxide alone had limited performance, achieving only 8.8% to 14.4% decolorization for direct dyes DR28 and DB71. The Fenton and photo-Fenton processes exhibited rapid total organic carbon (TOC) degradation within the initial 30 minutes, reducing reactive dyes RBla5, RB19, and RO16 by 41.3% to 38.8%. However, the reaction stagnated due to the depletion of Fe2+ in the Fenton process. Interestingly, the UV-peroxide treatment demonstrated superior decolorization performance, achieving 72.9% to 99.2% decolorization for DR28 and DB71 at pH 3 and 7. In contrast, TOC removal efficiency fell below expectations for all processes. The iron-based processes, Fenton and photo-Fenton, resulted in low TOC removal values for both direct dyes, possibly caused by the mordanting phenomena between dyes and iron, shown by visible sediment formation Further research is needed to optimize TOC removal efficiency, especially for direct dyes, and to elucidate the mechanisms of protonation and mordant interactions in the dye degradation process. Purpose: The purpose of this research is to develop an environmentally friendly antimicrobial dyeing of cotton fabric from the root of Euclea racemosa. Textile phytochemical finishing is in high demand worldwide because of its low toxicity, low pollution, ease of availability, renewability, pharmacological effects and non-carcinogenic properties, as well as its multifunctionality, rapid process stages and potential health benefit. Design/methodology/approach: The cotton fabric was dyed with aqueous extracts of Euclea racemosa root dyes. Dyes were extracted for 20 min at pH 7.43 at room and boiling temperatures with material-to-liquor ratios (MLRs) of 1:5, 1:10, 1:15 and 1:20, altering one variable at a time, and the cotton fabric was colored using a post-mordanting procedure at 50°C with an MLR of 1:20. Using a properly cleaned Petri plate, the colored samples were tested in vitro for antibacterial activity. A spectrophotometer was used to assess color strength and shade depth, as well as wash fastness and annual rubbing fastness tests for both wet and dry. Findings: L* = 36.29, a* = 58.56, b* = 32.46 and K/S = 0.51 were the CIELAB values for dye extracted at boiling temperature. L* = 47.14, a* = 42.23, b* = 49.61 and K/S = 0.38 were the CIELAB values for dye extracted at room temperature. The wash and rubbing fastness of the dyed samples were outstanding and the dyed cotton fabrics were found antibacterial against Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli. Purpose: This study aims to show the dyeing behaviour of polyester fabrics using four novel heterocyclic disperse dyes. Design/methodology/approach: The four dyes were synthesized based on 5, 5'-(1, 4-phenylene) bis (1, 3, 4-thiadiazol-2-amine) as a diazonium compound. The UV/Vis absorption spectroscopic data of these disperse dyes while dyeing polyester fabrics were investigated. Following this, the dyeing properties of these dyes on polyester fabrics were investigated under acid condition. Findings: The results showed that increasing the dyeing temperature from 80°C to 100°C led to an increase in dye uptake for all dyes, but further increases of the temperature to 130°C led to higher dye uptake for dye 3 as the dye exhaustion increased by about 50% from 55.9% to 91.4%. Originality/value: This study is important as it introduces new dyes for the dyeing of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fibres with colours that range from yellowish orange to bluish yellow and scarlet red and all with excellent brightness, levelness and depth of shade. Textile coloration is a complex process involving the interaction of dye molecules with fibers in a dye bath. Synthetic dyes pose environmental hazards, leading to increased interest in natural dyes sourced from plants, animals, and minerals. However, natural dyes often require mordants for application to textiles. Despite their eco‐friendliness, natural dyes can exhibit poor wash fastness on fabrics, necessitating further research to enhance their performance. This study investigates the use of mahogany sawdust extract as a natural dye for cotton coloration, focusing on the enhancement of fastness properties through metallic mordants and associated environmental risks. Mahogany sawdust, rich in flavonoids and tannins, shows promise as a sustainable alternative to synthetic dyes. The dyeing process involves the extraction of natural dyes from sawmill bio‐waste and subsequent application onto cotton fabrics using various metallic mordants. Evaluation of colorfastness properties, color strength, color coordinates, tensile strength, FTIR, and SEM analysis provides insights into the dye‐fiber interactions and fabric properties. Environmental risk assessment considers metal exhaustion onto fabric surfaces, residual metal concentrations in mordant baths, and metal content in dyeing wastewater. Overall, this study contributes to the development of sustainable dyeing processes and highlights the importance of environmental considerations in textile coloration. In order to improve the fixational rate of reactive dyes, response surface methodology was used to optimize the dyeing process of cotbon fabric in systatin non-Rueous and less water medium. The interaction among sodium carbonate concentration, Fixation time and fixation temperature was studied, and the optimum process parameters were optimized^ sodium carbonate concentration 48 g/L, fixation time lOmin and fixation temperature 89 °C . According to the optimum process conditions, the predicted fixation rate is 75. 67%. To explore the dyeing process problem of hemp fiber with trapa acornis nakano shell pigment, cationic modifiers KR, chitosan, gelatin, and BS modifiers were used to modify hemp, and unmodified and modified hemp were dyed with the dye. The influence of modifiers on the direct dyeing effect of trapa acornis nakano shell dye was discussed. The effects of mordant tannic acid, alum, plant ash acid on the dyeing of unmodified hemp and modified hemp fabric with trapa acornis nakano shell dye studied. The results show that the fabric dyed with trapa acornis nakano shell dye has a certain UV absolution function and the maximum wavelength in visible light is 380 nm, corresponding to an absorbance of 0. 067 K/S value of BS modified direct dyeing method, unmodified Hanma alum post mordant method, water-soluble chitosan modified Hanma alum post mordant dyeing method, gelatin modified Hanma alum post mordant dyeing method, BS modified Hanma grass and wood ash one bath mordant dyeing method and BS modified Hanma alum post mordant methods are all above 3. 990, their dyeing fastnesses are all at level 3 or above. Except for the BS modified direct dyeing process, which has a wet friction fastness of level 3, all other processes have a color fastness of level 3-4 or above, with the highest light fastness reaching level 5. A major source in the research on Baltic cultural history (Latvia, Estonia), including studies dedicated to the clothing of local inhabitants, are the drawings and descriptions of Johann Christoph Brotze (1742–1823), which date back to the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. They contain references to dyes and dyeing methods used by local peasants. The information recorded by J. C. Brotze, although fragmentary, is valuable because researchers lack documentary sources about the dyeing methods used in the 18th century in the territory of present-day Latvia. Additional research yields more extensive information about the contents of the descriptions. The current article will describe the experimental method that enabled the establishment of the specific dyeing technique, which, using Bixa orellana L., was employed to obtain the particular orange color referred to in the descriptions. The rising pollution by synthetic dyes from the textile industry is a serious health problem calling for safer chemicals and textile production methods. As an alternative, bio-based colorants are increasingly used for food, cosmetics, flavors, medical applications. Here we review bio-based textile dyeing with focus on dye classification, methods to improve dyeing, and mordants and bio-mordants. Dyes are classified according to their origin such as plant, animal, mineral, microbes, and waste; their chemical structure, e.g., indigoid, flavonoid, and tannin dyes; their color; and their application such as mordant dyes and direct dyes. Methods to improve dyeing include sonication, plasma, ultraviolet, microwave, and gamma irradiation. Most bio-based dyes are biodegradable, renewable, non-hazardous, non-allergic, and simple to use. Yet bio-based dyes are limited by poor color fastness and a constrained palette of shades. These limitations can be resolved by using mordants on textile materials. Waterless dyeing of polyamide 6.6 using scCO2 (supercritical carbon dioxide) was investigated. PA (polyamide) fibers can be dyed with various dyes, including disperse dyes. The conventional aqueous dyeing process uses large amounts of water and produces polluted water. Considering these environmental issues, waterless dyeing of fibers is a forefront issue, and utilization of supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) is a commercially viable technology for waterless dyeing. This study tested PA6.6 (polyamide 6.6) dyeing in scCO2 at 100 °C 220 bar pressure for 45 min. Color measurements and color fastness tests were performed, as well as tensile strength, scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis. PA6.6 fabrics yielded higher K/S (color strength, the Kubelka–Munk equation) values with larger molecular weight dye and almost the same color strength with medium and small-sized dyes, demonstrating the ability of dyeing in a supercritical environment without water as a more environmentally friendly dyeing option compared to conventional dyeing. Natural pigments are becoming increasingly popular owing of their reliability. Microbial pigments provide an alternative to natural colours. A total of 24 fungal cultures were collected from leaf bits of Senna auriculata, with one strain (FNG1) producing an extracellular red orange pigment. Nigrospora oryzae was confirmed by using physical criteria and molecular phylogenetic study by using ITS and β- tubulin analysis. In EtOAc, the crude red pigment was the most soluble. The TLC analysis was used to partly purify the natural pigment. The partially purified fungal pigment was used in successive bioprospecting studies. The antimicrobial activity of the partially purified sample was assessed against eight human pathogens, with Leucobacter AA7 showing the largest zone of inhibition (200–500 µg/mL). The compound's DPPH scavenging activity enhanced from 38.2 to 67.9%, with an IC50 value of 34.195 ± 2.33 µg/mL. Cancer cells were suppressed by partly pure fungal pigment, but non-cancerous HEK 293 cells were unaffected. The GC–MS analysis was used to characterize the molecule present in the partly purified pigment. In order to reduce the hazards caused by molten drops of PET during combustion, a flame retardant HBCP was synthesized from hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene nitrile and p-hydroxybenzaldehyde, and HBCP was blended with PET and then melt spun to produce flame retardant anti-dripping PET fibers. The effects of three disperse dyes (disperse yellow 3G; disperse blue 2BLN and disperse red 3B) on the dyeing process of pure PET fibers and flame flame-retardant and anti-dripping PET fibers were investigated, including the effects of dyeing mass fraction, dyeing temperature, dyeing time and pH value on the dyeing performance of the fiber. The experimental results show that the dyeing rate of both disperse yellow 3G and disperse red 3B is the highest and the dyeing effect is better when the dye mass fraction is 1.0%, dyeing temperature is 130 °C, dyeing time is 60 min, and the pH value of dye solution is 5; the disperse blue 2BLN achieves the highest dyeing effect when the dye mass fraction is 2.0%, the dyeing temperature is 120 °C, the dyeing time is 60 min, and the pH value of dye solution is 5. Under the same dyeing process conditions, the dyeing rate of all three disperse dyes is improved to some extent for the flame-retardant and anti-dripping PET fibers compared to the pure PET fibers. Regenerated protein fibres manufactured from food side‐streams offer significant potential as circular and sustainable fibres, but greater knowledge of their dyeing properties is required. In this research, coloration of casein fibres with dyes also extracted from blackcurrant skins left over from juice pressing is explored. Casein fibre was dyed with blackcurrant extract, rich in anthocyanins, from pH 2 to pH 6 and from 40 to 80°C, with and without alum. Casein fibres could be dyed with blackcurrant extract across all conditions tested, and under optimal conditions, dyeing is achieved with medium depths of colour with good wash fastness. Highest sorption of anthocyanins onto casein is observed at pH 4, where anthocyanins are a mixture of 60% neutral purple quinonoidal base form and 40% flavylium cation form; under these conditions dye–fibre interaction is optimal. At pH 2, casein fibre has a highly positively charged surface and anthocyanin is in the flavylium cation form, leading to some dye–fibre repulsion. At pH 6, the slightly negatively charged casein fibre demonstrates lower sorption of the mixture of 40% purple quinonoidal base form and 60% the anionic quinonoidal base form, again leading to some dye–fibre repulsion. Presence of alum in the dyebath enhances sorption of anthocyanins onto fibre at pH 4 due to formation of Al–anthocyanin complexes. The practical application of a sulphur black dye relies on its ability to dye cotton fibres with pure black colour and maintain the colour with high light fastness. Here, we report a synthesis method to prepare a novel water‐soluble reactive sulphur black dye. The approach involves the reduction of CI Sulphur Black 1 to its leuco form and subsequent reaction with a water‐soluble intermediate containing reactive groups synthesised from amino acid and cyanuric chloride. The optimal carboxyl and reactive group content of the water‐soluble reactive sulphur black dye is 141 mmol/100 g, and the water solubility can reach 92 g/L. The fixation of the reactive sulphur black dye on cotton reaches 89% in a pad dyeing process without using sodium sulphate. The reactive sulphur black dye can achieve a light fastness of grade 6‐7, a dry rub fastness of grade 4 and a wet rub fastness of grade 2, comparable or higher than the conventional CI Sulphur Black 1. Most traditional synthetic dyes and functional reagents used in silk fabrics are not biodegradable and lack green environmental protection. Natural dyes have attracted more and more attention because of their coloring, functionalization effects, and environmental benefits. In this study, natural dyes were extracted from lac and used for coloring and functionalization in silk fabrics without any other harmful dyes. The extraction conditions were studied and analyzed by the univariate method. The optimal extraction process was that the volume ratio of ethanol to water was 60:40 with a solid–liquid ratio of 1:10, and reacting under the neutrality condition for 1 h at 70 °C. Silk fabric can be dyed dark owing to the certain lifting property of lac. After being dyed by Al3+ post-medium, the levels of the washing fastness, light fastness, and friction fastness of silk fabric are all above four with excellent fastness. The results show that the dyed silk fabrics have good UV protection, antioxidation, and antibacterial properties. The UV protection coefficient UPF is 42.68, the antioxidant property is 98.57%, and the antibacterial property can reach more than 80%. Therefore, the dyeing and functionalization of silk fabrics by utilizing naturally lac dyes show broad prospects in terms of the application of green sustainable dyeing and functionalization. 1-(3-aryl)-3-(dimethylamino)prop-2-en-1-one (enaminones) derivatives and the diazonium salt of para-chloroaniline were used to synthesize several novel disperse azo dyes with high yield and the use of an environmentally friendly approach. At 100 and 130 °C, we dyed polyester fabrics using the new synthesized disperse dyes. At various temperatures, the dyed fabrics' color intensity was assessed. The results we obtained showed that dyeing utilizing a high temperature method at 130 °C was enhanced than dyeing utilizing a low temperature method at 100 °C. Reusing dye baths once or twice was a way to achieve two goals at the same time. The first was obtaining a dyed product at no cost, and the second was a way to treat the wastewater of dyeing bath effluents and reuse it again. Good results were obtained for the fastness characteristics of polyester dyed with disperse dyes. When the disperse dyes were tested against certain types of microbes and cancer cells, they demonstrated good and encouraging findings for the potential to be used as antioxidants and antimicrobial agents. The indirect emission had a negative influence on the ecosystem of enormous amounts of harmful dyes into water. Fe3O4@Ag-MOF was successfully fabricated to capture Gentine violet (GV)) as a model example of cationic dye from their aqueous solutions was evaluated in this search as a method to eliminate dyes from water contaminants. FTIR, XPS, BET, TGA, SEM, TEM, and XRD have all been used to study this adsorbent in order to determine its structural and chemical characteristics as well as to interpret its binding mechanisms. According to the results of the characterization, the synthesized composite had a size about 45 nm, a surface area of 856.06 m2/g, and considerable magnetic characteristics (66.2 emug−1). Consequently, we created mesoporous surfaces that had a strong ability to interface and absorb GV dye. It is possible to use the pseudo-second order rate equation to characterize the kinetic profile., while the Langmuir equation fits isotherm models. At pH 9, maximum sorption capacities can reach 1.68 mmol.g−1. Additionally, the investigations of temperature profiles indicated the endothermic process and Thermodynamic parameters were discovered as, ΔG°, ΔH° and ΔS° The synthesized adsorbent had an interestingly high reusability of > 92 percent up to the sixth cycle. These findings revealed that a mixture of electrostatic interactions, π-π stacking, hydrogen bonds, and pore filling were involved in the GV adsorption mechanism. Functional Lyocell fibers gain interest in garments and technical textiles, especially when equipped with inherently bioactive features. In this study, Lyocell fibers are modified with an ion exchange resin and subsequently loaded with copper (Cu) ions. The modified Lyocell process enables high amounts of the resin additive (>10%) through intensive dispersion and subsequently, high uptake of 2.7% Cu throughout the whole cross-section of the fiber. Fixation by Na2CO3 increases the washing and dyeing resistance considerably. Cu content after dyeing compared to the original fiber value amounts to approx. 65% for reactive, 75% for direct, and 77% for HT dyeing, respectively. Even after 50 household washes, a recovery of 43% for reactive, 47% for direct and 26% for HT dyeing is proved. XRD measurements reveal ionic bonding of Cu fixation inside the cellulose/ion exchange resin composite. A combination of the fixation process with a change in Cu valence state by glucose/NaOH leads to the formation of Cu2O crystallites, which is proved by XRD. Cu fiber shows a strong antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumonia bacteria, even after 50 household washing cycles of both >5 log CFU. In nonwoven blends with a share of only 6% Cu fiber, a strong antimicrobial (CFU > log 5) and full antiviral effectiveness (>log 4) was received even after 50 washing cycles. Time-dependent measurements already show strong antiviral behavior after 30 s. Further, the fibers show an increased die off of the fungal isolate Candida auris with CFU log 4.4, and nonwovens made from 6% Cu fiber share a CFU log of 1.7. Chlorophyll from peppermint (mentha spicata) was evaluated as a natural dye sensitizer in TiO2 solar cells. The final photoconversion efficiency depended on the solvent used as chlorophyll dispersant and the technique used to sensitize the mesoporous TiO2 film. Evaluated sensitization techniques included pipetting, immersion, and electrophoresis. Best solar cell performance was obtained using methanol as solvent simultaneously with electrophoresis. A short circuit current density (Jsc) of 0.174 mA/cm2 and an open circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.508 V were obtained. The photoconversion efficiency reached 0.39 %. Complex extraction, which has the characteristics of high efficiency and selectivity of chemicals, has unique advantages in dye wastewater treatment. In the paper, a green closed‐loop dye wastewater treatment route for dyeing industry is re‐evaluated by studying the complex extraction and stripping of Telon yellow 4B, and dyeing test of regenerated dye. FT‐IR characteristic peaks of the initial organic phase and the regenerated organic phase are consistent, and the dye can be migrated from the loaded organic phase to the aqueous phase after stripping. The concentration of dye in the aqueous phase and extraction conditions have a significant effect on extraction rate, especially the aqueous‐organic phase ratio and the pH value of the aqueous phase. Meanwhile, the stripping conditions have a marked impact on stripping rate, among which NaOH dosage is an important factor. The regenerated dye solution and the freshly prepared dye solution at same concentration have the same color shade and K/S value, and the color fastness of dyed fabrics is all above Grade 4. High extraction rate, high stripping rate, excellent reusability of regenerated organic phase, and the dyeing performance of the regenerated dye prove that complex extraction is a green dye wastewater treatment process with the practical feasibility. To explore the color diversity and performance of functional submicron cotton fabric dyed with ecological natural dyes, three types of natural dyes sappanwood, madder, and gardenia and orchid, were used to dye the fabric. The optimal dyeing conditions for sappanwood were found to be an insulation temperature of 95°C, a dyeing bath pH of 5.5, and a dyeing time of 60 min, resulting in the highest apparent color value (K/S). For madder, the optimal conditions were an insulation temperature of 90°C, a dyeing bath pH value of 6, and a dyeing time of 60 min. Similarly, for gardenia and orchid, the optimal conditions were an insulation temperature of 90°C, a dyeing bath pH value of 5, and a dyeing time of 60 min. Based on these preferred dyeing processes, the K/S value, color characteristic value, color fastness, and biodegradability of the three natural dyes were compared and analyzed with synthetic dyes. The results showed that natural dyeing resulted in higher brightness (L * values), lower color depth (C * values), lower red-green (a *) and yellow-blue (b *) values, similar hues, and lower K/S values compared to synthetic dyeing. The color fastness of the natural dyes was slightly lower than that of chemical dyes by 0.5 grade. Additionally, the average breaking strength, elongation at break, tearing strength, and bursting strength of the fabric increased by 9.34%, 5.69%, 9.75%, and 7.31%, respectively. Furthermore, the biodegradability of the natural dyes was over 93%, significantly higher than that of synthetic dyes. The use of color dyes in modern society presents a great challenge to the environment. Thus, extensive studies have been conducted in the last 30 years on the removal of color dyes from aqueous solutions such industrial wastewater. In this study, the removal of alizarin red S (ARS), an anionic dye, from solution by raw calcite (Cal) and heat-treated calcite (HCal) was conducted and compared under different physico-chemical conditions. Based on the isotherm study, the ARS removal capacities increased from 167 to 251 mmol/kg after the Cal was heated to 1000 °C for 3 h. The X-ray diffraction analyses showed no difference in the calcite phase between Cal and HCal after ARS sorption. Fourier-transform infrared results also showed no change in the calcite phase after ARS sorption, except a slightly increase in wavenumber from 713 to 727 cm−1 for the OCO bending of HCal at high ARS sorption levels. SEM observations showed about the same particle size and morphology before and after ARS sorption. The TGA data showed the formation of CaO after Cal was heated, and CaO converted back into calcite after being in contact with water or ARS solution for 24 h and then being air-dried. Thus, the high ARS removal could be due to CaO produced after Cal being heated. The findings from this research proved that there is great potential in the use of calcite, a low-cost and readily available Earth material, after heat treatment for the removal of contaminants from water. This study demonstrates a novel methodology for developing a textile-based adsorption sensor via mixed solvent dyeing with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) dyes on recycled fabrics. AIE dyes were incorporated into the fabrics using a mixed solvent dyeing method with a co-solvent mixture of H2O and organic solvents. This method imparted unique fluorescence properties to fabrics, altering fluorescence intensity or wavelength based on whether the AIE dye molecules were in an isolated or aggregated state on the fabrics. The precise control of the H2O fraction to organic solvent during dyeing was crucial for influencing fluorescence intensity and sensing characteristics. These dyed fabrics exhibited reactive thermochromic and vaporchromic properties, with changes in fluorescence intensity corresponding to variations in temperature and exposure to volatile organic solvents (VOCs). Their superior characteristics, including a repetitive fluorescence switching property and resistance to photo-bleaching, enhance their practicality across various applications. Consequently, the smart fabrics dyed with AIE dye not only find applications in clothing and fashion design but demonstrate versatility in various fields, extending to sensing temperature, humidity, and hazardous chemicals. The demand for natural dyes is increasing due to the negative environmental impacts of synthetic color. In fact, customers are becoming more concerned about their health and the environmentally friendly products. The aim of this research is to disclose the dye extraction process using the ultrasonic method and eco‐friendly dyeing of organic cotton knitted fabric. Initially, 10 g of Syzyguim cumini leaf powder was dissolved in 150 mL of purified water maintaining a 1 : 15 M : L ratio to extract the color. After that, the extracted dye solution was added to coloration bath following the M : L ratios of 1 : 16, 1 : 12, and 1 : 8 for producing dark, medium, and light shades, respectively. Post mordanting was done using natural lemon juice for colorfastness improvement. The color attributes were revealed by the spectrophotometric analysis. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to comprehend the successful relationship that exists among SCL dyes and organic cotton fibers, and the TGA analysis confirmed that dyed fabric is more stable than undyed fabric. Moreover, the colored sample's pH, formaldehyde level, and presence of forbidden Azo groups (aromatic amines) were examined. Semiconductor coupling is one of the best incredible ways to improve the photo-absorption range from UV to the visible region. Here, we prepared various proportions of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and zinc oxide (ZnO) and thus determined the best ratio suitable for photo-activated applications. Sol–gel synthesis method is used for the preparation of TiO2 and TiO2/ZnO nanoparticles. TiO2/ZnO composites are prepared in ratios 9:1, 8:2 and 7:3, respectively. HR-SEM micrograph reveals the conversion of surface morphology from rod to plate after addition of ZnO. The peak of photoluminescence spectra lies between 451 and 494 nm, which shows the photocatalyst can absorb photons in the visible region. The photocatalytic degradation of the samples was investigated using a model thiazine dye. The light medium used for the degradation is sunlight. UV spectroscopy results obtained from the sample TiO2/ZnO taken in the ratio 8:2 show an enhanced efficiency. The least absorbance was shown clearly with an efficient degradation of 95.11%. Photocatalysis procedure was repeated with the same photocatalyst up to five times, and dye degradation efficiency was not decreased. Background: The plant henna has a natural coloring pigment that is used to dye skin, fingernails, hair, and textiles like leather, silk, and wool. It may also be utilized for impermanent body art. An active ingredient in henna plants identified as "lawsone" is an orange-reddish dye that combines to the protein keratin of human skin to color it. Materials and Methods: Herbal hair dye formulation is prepared to get a darker black natural hair dye that is free from any harmful chemicals. The main constituent used is henna which gives an orangish colour to hair. Different other natural compounds were mixed to get a darker color as well as to protect the hair. The formulation also prevents hair from premature greying, hair fall, cleaning of dandruff, etc. The formulation promotes hair growth and helps to maintain a healthy environment for hair to grow. The main four constituents used for coloring were Henna (50%), Indigo (30%) Coffee (4%) and Amla (4%), which also promote hair growth. Other constituents such as Shikakai (2%), Reetha (2%), Brahmi (2%), Red Sandalwood (2%), Hibiscus (2%), Bhringraj (2%) were mixed to get natural black color to hair. Results: The herbal hair dye pack was formulated, evaluated and its application on the blonde hair was carried out. The two formulations A and B when applied to blonde hair string the color obtained are similar to natural black hair color. Conclusion: However, further studies on the application of formulated hair dye packs on different shades of human hair are required to determine its full range of potential advantages. The Middle Nile Valley offers exceptional environmental conditions that allow the preservation of organic materials, including textiles. This paper presents the results of the analysis of 17 samples collected from wool, cotton, and silk textiles excavated in the ancient capital of Old Dongola from layers dated to the 17th and 18th centuries CE. Chemical analysis using high performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (HPLC‐MS/MS) have identified both plant and animal dyes. Locally produced textiles, mostly from wool and decorated with blue, green, orange, and yellow hues, were dyed with woad (Isatis tinctoria), flavonoid plants, and madder‐type roots, which were already known and used by medieval dyers in that area. For the first time, kermes (Kermes vermilio) and lac‐dye (Kerria species) have been also identified as a dye source in samples from this group. Imported fabrics, of cotton and silk, were dyed blue with woad (I. tinctoria) but also with indigo (Indigofera tinctoria); dyer's broom (Genista tinctoria) and kermes (K. vermilio) were other dyes identified in this second group. The results of this study provide the first dye identification for textiles produced in the 17th–18th c. It was aimed to determine the specific resource use and reduction potential profiles in various textile sub-sectors (cotton woven fabric dyeing-finishing, wool woven fabric dyeing-finishing, synthetic woven fabric dyeing-finishing, cotton knitted fabric, synthetic knit fabric dyeing-finishing, non-woven fabric, dyeing-finishing of knitted fabric). The main focus was to elucidate opportunities for sustainability in terms of decreasing resource utilization in the textile sector. On-site surveys and detailed data collection studies were carried out at 150 textile facilities. Average specific values for water, auxiliary chemicals, dyestuff, electricity, and steam consumptions, and related reduction potentials were calculated and compared within facilities and sub-sectors. The minimum specific resource consumption values reported in the Best Available Techniques Reference Document (BREF) for the textile industry and data of similar facilities from the literature were evaluated and used. A detailed environmental performance profile of the Turkish textile sector in terms of resource usage and reduction potential was generated. The highest specific water consumption was found in the wool-woven fabric sub-sector (345 ± 262 L/kg product). Although the specific auxiliary chemical consumption shows similarities within sub-sectors, the highest specific auxiliary chemical consumption (397 ± 237 g/kg product) was found in the synthetic woven fabric sub-sector. The sub-sector with the highest specific dyestuff consumption (30 ± 13 g/kg product) was the cotton knitted fabric sub-sector. The wool woven fabric industry had the highest specific electricity (7 ± 5.3 kWh/kg product) and steam (20 ± 11 kg steam/kg product) consumption. In addition, for all the studied sub-sectors country-wide, the lowest and highest reduction potentials in resource uses were 18 ± 15% and 73 ± 13%, respectively, suggesting a need for major full-scale implementations of cleaner production for enhancing sustainability in the textile industry. To explore methods for achieving clean application of reactive dyes from the source, three polyfunctional reactive dyes (YMR-1–YMR-3) using different diamine compounds as bridge groups were developed. The three dyes showed different solubility in water, which was 230, 100, and 160 g/L, respectively, at 25 ℃. The three reactive dyes were used to dye cotton fabrics through an energy-saving cold pad-batch dyeing technique. The factors influencing on the dyeing performance in the cold pad-batch dyeing technique were also comprehensively studied. The maximum fixation values of YMR-1, YMR-2, and YMR-3 were 94.19, 90.79, and 92.18%, respectively. Levelness of the cotton fabrics dyed with the three dyes was investigated and further discussed. The results showed that the dyed cotton fabrics exhibited good levelness with a low color difference value (ΔE < 0.40). In this study, the dyeing of cellulose fibre with disperse dyes is attempted by chemically modifying the cellulose fibre with a previously reported bifunctional cross-linker AXL-2 at a neutral pH. The modified cellulose was then dyed with nucleophilic disperse dyes containing amino and/or hydroxyl groups. One end of the cross-linker binds with the hydroxyl groups of cellulose, while the second one binds with the disperse dye molecule containing free NH2 or OH groups. After optimizing the parameters on 100% cellulose, the bifunctional cross-linker was applied on polyester/cotton (P/C) blended fabric. The chemical composition, morphology, and strength of the modified cellulose and P/C fibres were analyzed by ATR-FTIR, SEM-EDX, tensile strength testing, water absorbency testing, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The characterization analyses verified the binding of the synthesized epoxy compound with the hydroxyl group of cellulose. The tensile strength of the modified fabric was reduced slightly compared to the unmodified one. No significant change in the absorbency and thermal stability of the fabric was noticed after chemical modification. The colour depth of the modified cotton and P/C blend, after dyeing with disperse dyes, was assessed by K/S measurements and compared to the respective unmodified fabrics. The results indicated the successful dyeing of the modified P/C blend in one-bath using disperse dyes containing amino and/or hydroxyl functionalities. The fastness properties of the dyed samples were examined by following ISO standard test procedures, and the crosslinked fabrics were found to have good overall fastness except for the light fastness.
