Analysis of 4-cyanophenol and 3-nitrophenol was carried out using multi-walled carbon nanotubes-based solid-phase extraction (SPE) and capillary electrophoresis (CE) methods. Capillary electrophoresis was carried out with 18 kV voltage, 214 nm detection, and phosphate buffer (pH 7.0, 15 mM) as background electrolyte at 25 ± 1 °C temperature with 15.05 and 16.5 min migration times of 4-cyanophenol and 3-nitrophenol. The separation and resolution factors were 1.10 and 2.90. The optimized experimental conditions were 40 mg/L concentration, 1.0 g multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) per SPE cartridge, 5.0 mL/min flow rate of water, 0.1 mL flow rate of eluting solvent. The maximum recoveries were 91% and 98% at 0.1 mL/min flow rate of 4-cyanophenol and 3-nitrophenol. These methods were applied successfully for extraction and estimation of 4-cyanophenol and 3-nitrophenol in the municipal wastewater. Inexpensive multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MCNTs) were prepared with 10-40 nm particle sizes and 9.0 m 2 g -1 surface area. Fenuron pesticide was removed in water using these CNTs with 100.0 µgL -1 concentration, 60 min contact time, 2.0 g L -1 dose, 7.0 pH, and 25 °C. 90% removal of fenuron pesticide was achieved. Adsorption data obeyed Tempkin, Freundlich, Langmuir and Dubinin-Radushkevich models. The standard free energies values of fenuron pesticide adsorption were -11.89, -11.59, -11.55 kJ mol -1 . The values of enthalpy and entropy were -9.12 kJmol -1 and -26.61 × 10 -3 kJ mol -1 K. The negative values of free energy showed speedy adsorption of fenuron pesticide on CNTs. The supramolecular mechanism of fenuron adsorption onto CNTs was fixed by simulation studies and the binding energy and binding affinity of fenuron with CNTs were - 6.5 kcal mol -1 and 5.85 × 10 4 M -1 , respectively. There were one π-σ, seven π-π stacked, one π-π T-shaped, and three π-alkyl type of hydrophobic interactions between fenuron and carbon nanotube. These results clearly indicated the physical nature of the adsorption. The method is speedy, cost-effective, efficient and repeatable. A composite of multi-walled carbon nanotubes incorporated into a benzyl methacrylate-co-ethylene dimethacrylate porous monolith was prepared, characterized and used as solid phase adsorbent and as stationary phase for simultaneous extraction and separation of ten polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, followed by nano-liquid chromatography analysis. The extraction and chromatographic parameters were optimized with regard to the extraction efficiency and the quality of chromatographic analytes separation. Under the optimized conditions, all PAHs were separated in 13 min with suitable resolution values (Rs = 1.74-3.98). Addition of a small amount of carbon nanotubes (0.1% with respect to monomers) to the polymerization mixture increased the efficiency for the separation column to over 41,700 plates m -1 for chrysene at flow rate of 0.5 μL min -1 . The method showed a wide linear range (1-500 μg L -1 with R 2 more than 0.9938), acceptable extraction repeatability (RSDs < 6.4%, n = 3) and reproducibility (RSDs < 12.6%, five parallel-made solid phase extraction cartridges) and satisfactory detection limits (0.02-0.22 μg L -1 ). Finally, the proposed method was successfully applied to the detection of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in environmental water samples. After a simple extraction procedure with preconcentration factor equal to 100, the average recovery values in ultra-pure, tap and sea water samples were found to be in the range 81.3-95.4% with %RSD less than 6.4. Again, the presence of carbon nanotubes (0.3% relatively to monomers) in native polymer enhanced the extraction performance for the solid phase adsorbent up to 78.4%. An ultra high performance liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry method has been developed for the simultaneous separation, identification and determination of 22 phenolic constituents in honey from various floral sources from Yemen. Solid-phase extraction was used for extraction of the target phenolic constituents from honey samples, while multiwalled carbon nanotubes were used as solid-phase adsorbent. The chromatographic separation of all phenolic constituents was performed on a BEH C18 column using a linear gradient elution with a binary mobile phase mixture of aqueous 0.1% formic acid and methanol. The quantitation was carried out in selected ion reaction monitoring acquisition mode. The total amount of phenolic acids, flavonoids and other phenols in each analyzed honey was found in the range of 338-3312, 122-5482 and 2.4-1342 μg/100 g of honey, respectively. 4-Hydroxybenzoic acid was found to be the major phenolic acid. The main detected flavonoid was chrysin, while cinnamic acid was found to be the major other phenol compound. There is a clear need to make energy cheap, readily accessible and green, while ensuring its production does not contribute to further climate change. Of all the options available, photovoltaics offer the highest probability of delivering a meaningful and sustainable change in the way society produces its energy. One approach to the development of such photovoltaics involves the use of polymers. These systems offer the advantages of cheap production, flexibility (and hence a range of deployment opportunities) and tunability of light absorption. However, there are issues with polymer-based photovoltaic systems and one significant effort to improve these systems has involved the use of carbon nanotubes (CNTs). This review will focus on those efforts. A simple method has been described for simultaneous determination of phenolic acid, flavonoid, and other phenol contents in various natural honey samples collected from various regions of Yemen. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes were used as a solid-phase adsorbent for extraction of the polyphenols from honey samples. The total contents of phenolic acids, flavonoids, and phenolic components of the 12 different samples were found in the range of 363-2658, 261-1646, and 224-1355 μg/100 g of honey samples, respectively. The major phenolic acid, flavonoid, and phenolic compound in these samples were found to be 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (1410 μg/100 g), chrysin (850 μg/100 g), and cinnamic acid (1336 μg/100 g), respectively. A total of 25 compounds (10 phenolic acids, 9 flavonoids, and 6 phenols) were analyzed, and a total of 24 were detected, while only 23 compounds were determined quantitatively in the honey samples. A sorbent extraction procedure for Pb(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), and Fe(III) ions on single-walled carbon nanotube disks has been established. Analyte ions were converted to 2-(5-bromo-2-pyridylazo)-5-diethylamino-phenol chelates, then adsorbed on the disk. Adsorbed chelates were easily desorbed from the disk by using 10 mL 2 M HNO3. The various analytical parameters, including pH and reagent amounts that were effective for the recoveries of the analytes on nanotube disks, were optimized. The influence of matrix ions was also studied. The LOD values based on 3sigma were in the 0.3-4.6 microg/L range. Validation of the proposed SPE procedure was carried out by the determination of analytes in certified reference materials (TMDA-54.4 fortified lake water and HR-1 Humber River sediment). Spiking and recovery experiments for the analyte ions in real samples gave good results.
