In the realm of natural polysaccharides, hydrogen bonding is a prevalent feature, yet its role in enhancing photocatalytic antimicrobial properties has been underexplored. In this paper, heterojunctions formed by graphene oxide (GO) and ZIF-8 were locked in sodium alginate/ carboxylated cellulose nanocrystals via hydrogen bonding networks, designated as SCGZ. The SCGZ films exhibit superior photocatalytic performance compared to either ZIF-8 or heterojunctions. This enhancement is primarily due to two key factors: firstly, the hydrogen bonding network significantly enhances the transfer of protons and holes, thereby improving the separation efficiency of photo-generated carriers; secondly, the hydrogen bonding between the layers facilitates a more efficient charge transfer, which expedites the movement of electrons from ZIF-8 to GO upon illumination. In vitro studies demonstrated that the SCGZ films possess remarkable antibacterial capabilities, achieving 99.75 % and 99.61 % inhibition rates against S. aureus and E. coli, respectively. In vivo animal experiments have shown that SCGZ films can significantly accelerate the healing process of damaged tissues, with a healing efficiency of up to 90.5 %. Graphene oxide (GO) and GO-based nanocomposites are promising in drug delivery and photothermal therapy due to their exceptional near-infrared optical absorption and high specific surface area. In this study, we have effectively conjugated an oxaliplatin (IV) prodrug, PEGylated graphene oxide, and PEGylated biotin (PB) in a single platform for breast cancer treatment. This platform demonstrates promising prospects for targeted drug delivery and the synergistic application of photothermal-chemotherapy when exposed to NIR-laser irradiation. The resulting nanocomposite (GO(OX)PB (1/1/0.2) NPs) displayed an exceptionally large surface area, minimal particle size (195.7 nm), specific targeting capabilities, a high drug load capacity (43.56 %) and entrapment efficiency (89.48 %) and exhibit excellent photothermal conversion efficiency and photostability when exposed to NIR-laser irradiation (808 nm). The therapeutic effectiveness was assessed both in vitro and in vivo conditions employing human breast cancer cells (MCF-7), mouse mammary gland adenocarcinoma cells (4T1), and 4T1-Luc tumor-bearing mouse models. The findings demonstrated that GO(OX)PB (1/1/0.2) NPs (+L) were highly effective in causing significant cytotoxicity, G2/M phase cell cycle arrest, ROS generation, mitochondrial membrane depolarization, apoptosis, and photothermal effect. This resulted in a greater percentage of cell death compared to free OX, GO(OX)PEG (1/1/0.2) NPs (±L), and GO(OX)PB (1/1/0.2) NPs (-L). The in vivo therapeutic studies on 4T1-Luc tumor-bearing mice revealed that a combination of GO(OX)PB (1/1/0.2) NPs (+L) caused complete disappearance of the tumor, no tumor recurrence, prolonged survival, reduced lung metastasis, and mitigated nephrotoxicity. The serum and blood analysis demonstrated minimal systemic toxicity of GO(OX)PB (1/1/0.2) NPs. Chronic wounds (CWs) treatment still represents a demanding medical challenge. Several intrinsic physiological signals (i.e., pH) help to stimulate and support wound healing. CWs, in fact, are characterized by a predominantly alkaline pH of the exudate, which acidifies as the wound heals. Therefore, pH-responsive wound dressings hold great potential owing to their capability of tuning their functions according to the wound conditions. Herein, porous chitosan (CS)-based scaffolds loaded with cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) and graphene oxide (GO) were successfully fabricated using a freeze-drying method. CNCs were extracted from bagasse pulps fibers through acid hydrolysis. GO was synthesised by Hummer's method. The scaffolds were then ionically cross-linked using the amino acid L-Arginine (Arg), as a bioactive agent, and tested as potential pH-responsive wound dressing. Notably, the effect of CNCs and GO singly and simultaneously loaded within the CS-Arg scaffolds was investigated. The modulation of CNCs and GO content within CS-Arg scaffolds facilitated the development of scaffolds with an optimal pH-dependent swelling ratio capability and extended degradation time. Rhamnolipids (RHLs) are promising biosurfactants with important applications in several industrial segments. These compounds are produced through biotechnological processes using the bacteria Pseudomonas Aeruginosa. The main methods of analyzing this compound are based on chromatographic techniques. In this study, an electrochemical sensor based on a platform modified with reduced graphene oxide, manganese nanoparticles covered with a molecularly imprinted poly (L-Ser) film was used as an alternative method to quantify RHL through its hydrolysis product, acid 3-hydroxydecanoic acid (3-HDA). The proposed sensor was characterized microscopically, spectroscopically and electrochemically. Under optimized experimental conditions, an analytical curve was obtained in the linear concentration range from 2.0 × 10 -12  mol L -1 to 1.0 × 10 -10  mol L -1 . The values estimated of LOD, LOQ and AS were 8.3 × 10 -13  mol L -1 , 2.7 × 10 -12  mol L -1 and 1.3 × 10 7  A L mol -1 , respectively. GCE/rGO/MnNPs/L-Ser@MIP exhibits excellent selectivity, repeatability, and high stability for the detection of 3-HDA. Furthermore, the developed method was successfully applied to the recognition of the hydrolysis product (3-HDA) of RHLs obtained from guava agro-waste. Objective: To investigate immunogenic and toxic effects of graphene oxide (GO) nanoparticles in mouse skeletal muscles and in human blood in vitro ., Methods: GO nanoparticles prepared using a probe sonicator were supended in deionized H 2 O or PBS, and particle size and surface charge of the nanoparticles were measured with dynamic light scattering (DLS). Different concentrations (0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mg/mL) of GO suspension or PBS were injected at multiple sites in the gastrocnemius muscle (GN) of C57BL/6 mice, and inflammatory response and immune cell infiltrations were detected with HE and immunofluorescence staining. We also examined the effects of GO nanoparticles on human red blood cell (RBC) morphology, hemolysis and blood coagulation using scanning electron microscope (SEM), spectrophotometry, and thromboelastography (TEG)., Results: GO nanoparticles suspended in PBS exhibited better colloidal dispersity, stability and surface charge effects than those in deionized H 2 O. In mouse GNs, injection of GO suspensions dose- and time-dependently resulted in sustained muscular inflammation and myofiber degeneration at the injection sites, which lasted till 8 weeks after the injection; immunofluorescence staining revealed obvious infiltration of monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells and CD4 + T cells around the injection sites in mouse GNs. In human RBCs, incubation with GO suspensions at 0.2, 2.0 and 20 mg/mL, but not at 0.002 or 0.02 mg/mL, caused significant alterations of cell morphology and hemolysis. TEG analysis showed significant abnormalities of blood coagulation parameters following treatment with high concentrations of GO., Conclusion: GO nanoparticles can induce sustained inflammatory and immunological responses in mouse GNs and cause RBC hemolysis and blood coagulation impairment, suggesting its muscular toxicity and hematotoxicity at high concentrations.

This work aims to fabricate antibacterial natural rubber latex composites by introducing different ratios of graphene oxide (GO) and nickel oxide (NiO) nanoparticles. The nanocomposites were prepared using latex mixing and a two-roll mill process, followed by molding with a heating hydraulic press. Detailed analyses were conducted to evaluate the rheological, chemical, physical, thermal, mechanical, and electrical performance of the composites. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was employed to analyze the interaction among different components, while the surface morphology was examined through the field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) technique. The composites with a loading ratio of 1:2 of GO to NiO (optimized concentration) exhibited the highest tensile strength (24.9 MPa) and tear strength (47.4 N/ mm) among all the tested samples. In addition, the composites demonstrated notable antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans. The thermal stability of the composites was observed up to 315 °C, and their electrical resistivity lies in the insulating range across a temperature span of 25 °C to 50 °C. This work aims to enhance the performance of the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) composite by using cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) as reinforcement and copper nanoparticles (CuNPs)/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) as conducting and antimicrobial reagents. Firstly, rGO was loaded onto CuNPs using an eco-friendly microwave method. Different techniques characterized the components and prepared composites, which indicated the incorporation of cellulose nanocrystals and rGO@CuNPs within the polyvinyl alcohol matrix. Utilizing the clear zone of inhibition, the antibacterial test was quantified. Compared to the neat composite, the rGO@CuNPs loaded polyvinyl alcohol/ cellulose nanocrystal composites exhibited no bacterial growth against S. aureus, E. coli, and C. albicans. However, all composites did not have antifungal activity against A. niger. The combination of conductivity and interfacial polarization is the reason for the abrupt increase of permittivity with decreasing frequency. Besides, adding rGO@CuNPs improved the electrical conductivity. DC-Conductivity increased about a decade after adding cellulose nanocrystal to polyvinyl alcohol, then another decade after adding CuONPs. The electric loss modulus representation shows a systematic shift in the peak position towards higher frequencies, decreasing the so-called conductivity relaxation time. This is the main reason for the enhancement of conductivity. The study focused on creating a novel and environmentally friendly nanocatalyst using cellulose (Cell), β-Cyclodextrin (BCD), graphene oxide (GO), Cu 2 O, and Fe 3 O 4 .The nanocatalyst was prepared by embedding GO and Cu 2 O into Cell-BCD hydrogel, followed by the in-situ preparation of Fe 3 O 4 magnetic nanoparticles to magnetize the nanocomposite. The effectiveness of this nanocatalyst was evaluated in the one-pot, three-component symmetric Hantzsch reaction for synthesizing 1,4-dihydropyridine derivatives with high yield under mild conditions. Herein, pyrenecarboxaldehyde@graphene oxide (Pyc@GO) sheets with highly efficient electrochemiluminescence (ECL) as emitters were prepared by a noncovalent combination to develop a neoteric ECL biosensing platform for the ultrasensitive assessment of human apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease1 (APE1) activity. Impressively, the pyrenecarboxaldehyde (Pyc) molecules were able to form stable polar functional groups on the surface of GO sheets through the noncovalent π-π stacking mechanism to prevent intermolecular restacking and simultaneously generate Pyc@GO sheets. Compared with the tightly packed PAH nanocrystals, the Pyc@GO sheets significantly reduced internal filtering effects and diminished nonactivated emitters to enhance ECL intensity and achieve strong ECL emission. Furthermore, the APE1-activated initiators could trigger the recyclable cascade amplified system based on the synergistic cross-activation between catalytic hairpin assembly (CHA) and DNAzyme, which improved the signal amplification and transduction ability. Consequently, the developed ECL platform for the detection of APE1 activity displayed exceptional sensitivity with a low detection limit of 4.6 × 10 -9 U·mL -1 ranging from 10 -8 to 10 -2 U·mL -1 . Therefore, the proposed strategy holds great promise for the future development of sensitive and reliable biosensing platforms for the detection of various biomarkers.

Graphene-based nanocomposites are developing as a new class of materials with several uses. The varied weight percentages of rGO on Ag 2 S catalysts were synthesized using a simple hydrothermal process and employed for the decomposition of anionic dye naphthol green B (NGB) under solar light. The reduced graphene oxide-based silver sulfide (rGO/Ag 2 S) nanoparticles were then examined using XRD, SEM, EDS, HR-TEM, XPS, UV-DRS, and PL analysis. Using solar light, the photocatalytic activity of the produced catalyst was examined for the degradation of naphthol green B (NGB) in an aqueous solution. At pH 9, rGO/Ag 2 S is discovered to be more effective than the other catalysts for the NGB dye mineralization. Analyses have been conducted on the influence of operational parameters on the photo-mineralization of NGB, including the initial pH, initial dye concentration, and catalyst dosage. The dye concentration increased; the efficiency of photocatalytic degradation tended to decrease. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) studies have verified the NGB dye mineralization. Active species trapping revealed that holes, hydroxyl radicals, and superoxide radicals all played major roles in the photocatalytic deterioration of NGB processes. Additionally, a potential mechanism of NGB dye degradation by rGO/Ag 2 S catalyst is presented. There is limited understanding of nanoparticle potential ecotoxicity, particularly regarding the influence of environmental factors that can be transferred through the food chain. Here, we assessed the transfer behavior and the ecotoxicity of commercially manufactured graphene oxide nano-materials (GO, <100 nm) in a food chain perspective spanning from Escherichia coli (E. coli) to Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) under simulated environmental conditions. Our findings revealed that E. coli preyed upon GO, subsequently transferring it to C. elegans, with a discernible distribution of GO observed in the digestive system and reproductive system. Accumulated GO generated serious ecological consequences for the higher level of the food chain (C. elegans). More importantly, GO and the resulting injurious effects of germ cells could be transferred to the next generation, indicating that GO exposure could cause genetic damage across generations. Previous research has demonstrated that GO can induce degradation of both the inner and outer cell membranes of E. coli, which is then transmitted to C. elegans through the food chain. Additionally, fulvic acid (FA) possesses various functional groups that enable interaction with nanomaterials. Our findings indicated that these interactions could mitigate ecotoxicity caused by GO exposure via food delivery, and this approach could be extended to modify GO in a way that significantly reduced its toxic effects without compromising performance. Aim: Graphene oxide (GO), known for its distinctive physicochemical properties, shows promise as a nanomaterial capable of combating infectious agents. This study investigates the efficacy of GO nanoparticles in restricting influenza A H1N1 replication in MDCK cells. Methods: GO nanoparticles were synthesized. After evaluating the toxicity of GO nanoparticles, the antiviral activity of the highest nontoxic concentration of GO against influenza A H1N1 in MDCK cells was studied. Results: GO treatments resulted in substantial decreases in virus titers, as shown via hemagglutination assay, TCID50 assay and real-time PCR analysis. Conclusion: This study emphasizes that GO nanoparticles have a high level of effectiveness against influenza A H1N1 viruses, making them an intriguing option for various antiviral uses.

The carbon nanotubes (CNT) intercalated graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets was functionalized with molybdenum disulfide nanoparticles (MSNP). Intercalation of CNT in between GO nanosheets significantly enhances porosity and avail both surfaces of GO for MSNP decoration. High porosity and densely populated MSNP led to faster Hg(II) ions diffusion and sorption. The material shows high selectivity for Hg(II) sorption due to sulfur rich sites. The GO/CNT@MSNP packed column employed for trace Hg(II) preconcentration and determination in fish, rice, mushroom, sunflower seeds and river and ground water samples. No significant hindrances by co-existing matrices in the determination of Hg(II) was found. The method shows a preconcentration factor of 540 and a preconcentration limit of 0.37 μg L -1 . The method detection limit was found to be 0.03 μg L -1 and a good precision (RSD 4.2%). The Student's t test score was lower than critical Student's t value of 4.303 at the 95% confidence level. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPLICATION: Metal ions toxicity is a global issue and their trace level analysis from complex matrices is remains challenging. SPE of trace Hg(II) by graphene oxide is challenging due to agglomeration and less selectivity, nevertheless of its high surface area. We prepared a Hg(II) selective nanocomposite of MoS 2 quantum dots grows onto GO surface. The hybrid nanocomposite selectively adsorbed Hg(II) ions from complex sample matrices. The present study endeavors toward the investigation on the bioactivity of nanofibrous scaffolds manufactured by the electrospinning process. Nanofibrous composite scaffolds of PCL with 45S5 bioactive glass and metal oxide nanoparticles were developed and characterized. The effects of incorporating silver (Ag), graphene oxide (GO), and zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles into PCL/bioglass nanofibrous scaffolds on its geometry and physiochemical, morphological, mechanical, and biological properties were studied. The incorporation of GO and ZnO alters the fiber diameter, suggesting the methodology for controlling the porosity of the scaffolds. The results of FTIR and XRD confirm the structure of bioglass, Ag, GO and ZnO nanoparticles. The in vitro degradation studies in SBF solution provide evidence for the enhancement in the rate of apatite formation by the inclusion of nanoparticles as compared with PCL/BG scaffolds. The assessment of mechanical properties suggests the tensile strength was increased from 1.61 to 5 MPa in PCL/BG/ZnO system when compared with pristine PCL. The cell viability is also observed to be improved from 72% to 91% and 104% for PCL/BG/GO and PCL/BG/ZnO, respectively. The hemolytic activity studies confirm that all scaffolds are nonhemolytic in nature and PCL/BG/ZnO exhibits the least hemolytic activity of 0.65% among the other composite scaffolds, suggesting the better blood compatibility. The present study evidently shows the fact that incorporation of GO and ZnO nanoparticles with PCL in addition to BG accelerates the bioactivity and improves the mechanical strength of the scaffold.

In this work, glucose-capped copper nanoparticles decorated reduced graphene oxide nanomaterial are synthesized at 100 °C and 200 °C via chemical reduction method and studied for their antibacterial and anticancer activities. Synthesized nanomaterials were characterized using x-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared, transmission electron microscope, and RAMAN. It is observed in transmission electron microscopy and selected area electron diffraction studies that copper nanoparticles deposited onto reduced graphene oxide are smaller than nanoparticles generated in the absence of reduced graphene oxide. Also, the size of copper nanoparticles synthesized at 200 °C is smaller than at 100 °C. Results suggest that Cu/Glu/rGO synthesized at both temperatures showed significant antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Bacillus anthracis, similarly, showed significant cell death in cancer cell lines [Cal33 and HCT-116 p53 (+/+)]. Interestingly, the nanomaterials were seen to be more effective against the cancer cell lines harboring aggregating mutant p53. Tumors with aggregating mutants of p53 are difficult to treat hence, Cu/Glu/rGO can be promising therapeutic agents against these difficult cancers. However, the antibacterial and anticancer activity of Cu/Glu/rGO synthesized at 100 °C where Cu 2 O form is obtained was found to be more effective compared to Cu/Glu/rGO synthesized at 200 °C where Cu form is obtained. Graphene oxide (GO) is a novel nanomaterial with distinct physical properties and significant biological applications. The use of GO in plant tissue culture offers several new properties and potential applications. This research is vital due to the growing need for innovative techniques to promote plant growth, improve plant productivity and mitigate challenges posed by environmental stressors. This study focused on the rare Cameron Highlands white strawberry plants (Fragaria x ananassa) and addressed issues such as callus production during direct shoot induction and hyperhydricity. The research aimed to investigate the effects of GO on the regeneration process and genetic stability of white strawberry plants and to use molecular markers to ensure that plants propagated in vitro are true to type. For this purpose, shoot tip explants were used and different concentrations of GO (0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10 mg/L) were added to the Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium for six weeks. The results showed that the optimum concentration for promoting the development of white strawberry seedlings was 7.5 mg/L of GO. The study also revealed that the addition of 7.5 mg/L GO in combination with 8 μM TDZ to the MS medium facilitated the induction of multiple shoots. Moreover, the clonal fidelity of the in vitro plants treated with GO showed a genetic similarity of over 97%. These results confirm that lower GO concentrations improve plant development and stability. Combining photothermal and chemotherapy is an emerging strategy for tumor irradiation in a minimally invasive manner, utilizing photothermal transduction agents and anticancer drugs. The present work developed a 2D carbon nanomaterial graphene oxide (GO)-based nanoplatform that converted to 3D colloidal spherical structures upon functionalization with an amphiphilic polymer mPEG-PLA (1, 0.5/1/2) and entrapped doxorubicin (Dox) physically. The Dox@GO(mPP) (1/0.5) NPs displayed the least particle size (161 nm), the highest stability with no aggregation, the highest Dox loading (6.3 %) and encapsulation efficiency (70 %). The therapeutic efficacy was determined in vitro and in vivo using murine (4 T1) and human triple-negative breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231), and 4 T1-Luc-tumor bearing mouse models. The results demonstrated that the Dox@GO(mPP) (1/0.5) NPs treatment with laser (+L) (808 nm) was highly efficient in inducing apoptosis, cell cycle arrest (G2/M) phase, significant cytotoxicity, mitochondrial membrane depolarization, ROS generation, and photothermal effect leading to a higher proportion of cell death than free Dox, and Dox@GO(mPP) (1/0.5) NPs (-L). The anticancer studies in mice harboring the 4 T1-Luc tumor showed that combination of Dox@GO(mPP) (1/0.5) NPs (+L) effectively reduced tumor development and decreased lung metastasis. The use of nanoparticles like graphene oxide (GO) in nanocomposite industries is growing very fast. There is a strong concern that GO can enter the environment and become nanopollutatnt. Environmental pollutants' exposure usually relates to low concentrations but may last for a long time and impact following generations. Attention should be paid to the effects of nanoparticles, especially on the DNA stability passed on to the offspring. We investigated the multigenerational effects on two strains (wild and long-lived) of house cricket intoxicated with low GO concentrations over five generations, followed by one recovery generation. Our investigation focused on oxidative stress parameters, specifically AP sites (apurinic/apyrimidinic sites) and 8-OHdG (8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine), and examined the global DNA methylation pattern. Five intoxicated generations were able to overcome the oxidative stress, showing that relatively low doses of GO have a moderate effect on the house cricket (8-OHdG and AP sites). The last recovery generation that experienced a transition from contaminated to uncontaminated food presented greater DNA damage. The pattern of DNA methylation was comparable in every generation, suggesting that other epigenetic mechanisms might be involved.

The use of natural polymeric nanoparticles (Nps) as drug carriers is a highly promising area of research in the field of drug delivery systems because of their high efficiency. In this study, flurbiprofen (FB) loaded chitosan-graphene oxide (CS-GO) blend Nps were synthesized as a controlled delivery system using the emulsion method. The crystalline, molecular, and morphological structures of the prepared CS-GO Nps were characterized using a variety of analytical methods, including Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-Ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). It was found that the introduction of GO into the CS nanoparticle formulation increased its thermal stability. The range of the average particle size was between 362 ± 5.06 and 718 ± 2.21 nm, with negative zeta potential values between -7.67 ± 4.16 and - 27.93 ± 2.26 mV. The effects of the CS/GO ratio, the FB/polymer ratio, the amount of span 80, and the cross-linker concentration were assessed on FB release profiles. In vitro release studies displayed a two-stage release behaviour with a fast initial release of the FB, followed by sustained and extended release, and the incorporation of GO into the CS Nps made the FB release more sustained and controlled manner. Besides, the cytotoxicity test of the FB-loaded CS-GO Nps was studied through MTT assay, and it was found that they were biocompatible. We report a facile approach to synthesize Pd-Cu nanoparticles immobilized on a Noria-GO nanocomposite for efficient nitrophenol reduction. The unique architecture of the Noria and the hydrophilic nature of GO contribute to the improved performance and structure of the resulting nanocomposite. The simple sol-immobilization approach employed NaBH 4 as a reductant and polyvinyl alcohol as a capping agent to evenly decorate small Pd-Cu nanoparticles with a diameter of 1.4 nm on the Noria-GO surface. The prepared Pd-Cu@Noria-GO nanocomposite was utilized as a nanocatalyst in converting of nitrophenol to aminophenol using NaBH 4 solution. Our Pd-Cu@Noria-GO nanocomposite exhibited superior catalytic efficacy with large conversion percentages, K app , and K AF values of 95%, 0.225 min -1 , and 225 min -1 g -1 , respectively. X-ray photoemission spectroscopy confirmed the oxidation state of the prepared nanoparticles, and TEM findings demonstrated the homogenous decoration of Pd-Cu NPs on the Noria-GO surface. Additionally, the durability of the Pd-Cu@Noria-GO nanocomposite shown its potential as a robust and promising material for remediating organic contaminants. Vibriosis is one of the most common diseases in marine aquaculture, caused by bacteria belonging to the genus Vibrio , that has been affecting many species of economically significant aquatic organisms around the world. The prevention of vibriosis in aquaculture is difficult, and the various treatments for vibriosis have their limitations. Therefore, there is an imperative need to find new alternatives. This review is based on the studies on vibriosis, specifically on the various treatments and their limitations, as well as the application of nanoparticles in aquaculture. One of the promising nanoparticles is graphene oxide (GO), which has been used in various applications, particularly in biological applications such as biosensors, drug delivery, and potential treatment for infectious diseases. GO has been shown to have anti-bacterial properties against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, but no research has been published that emphasizes its impact on Vibrio spp. The review aims to explore the potential use of GO for treatment against vibriosis.

To explore the new iodine labeling method of nanomaterials, graphene oxide (GO) was labeled by 131 I with AgI nanoparticles. As a control, GO was also labeled by 131 I with chloramine-T method. The stability of the two 131 I labeling materials, viz. [ 131 I]AgI-GO and [ 131 I]I-GO was evaluated. The results show that [ 131 I]AgI-GO is very stable in inorganic environment such as PBS and saline. However, it is not stable enough in serum. A graphene oxide mediated hybrid nano system for pH stimuli-responsive and in vitro drug delivery targeted for cancer was described in this study. Graphene oxide (GO) functionalized Chitosan (CS) mediated nanocarrier capped with xyloglucan (XG) was fabricated with and without Kappa carrageenan (κ-C) from red seaweed, Kappaphycus alverzii, as an active drug. FTIR, EDAX, XPS, XRD, SEM and HR-TEM studies were carried out for GO-CS-XG nanocarrier loaded with and without active drugs to understand the physicochemical properties. XPS (C1s, N1s and O1s) confirmed the fabrications of XG and functionalization of GO by CS via the binding energies at 284.2 eV, 399.4 eV and 531.3 eV, respectively. The amount of drug loaded in vitro was 0.422 mg/mL. The GO-CS-XG nanocarrier showed a cumulative drug release of 77 % at acidic pH 5.3. In contrast to physiological conditions, the release rate of κ-C from the GO-CS-XG nanocarrier was considerably higher in the acidic condition. Thus, a pH stimuli-responsive anticancer drug release was successfully achieved with the GO-CS-XG-κ-C nanocarrier system for the first time. The drug release mechanism was carried out using various kinetic models that showed a mixed release behavior depending on concentration and diffusion/swelling mechanism. The best-fitting model which supports our release mechanism are zero order, first order and Higuchi models. GO-CS-XG and κ-C loaded nanocarrier biocompatibility were determined by in vitro hemolysis and membrane stabilization studies. MCF-7 and U937 cancer cell lines were used to study the cytotoxicity of the nanocarrier by MTT assay, which indicates excellent cytocompatibility. In this study, we prepared spherical cellulose nanocrystals (S-CNCs) and stabilized n-hexadecane Pickering emulsions in conjunction with graphene oxide (GO), exploring the interaction between S-CNCs and GO in the emulsions. Both S-CNCs and GO are amphiphilic and synergistically stabilize Pickering emulsions by adhering to the surface of oil droplets and within the emulsion space through hydrogen bonding. GO's two-dimensional sheets assemble into a 3D network structure, further improving the stability of Pickering emulsions. Consequently, the stability of Pickering emulsions can be adjusted by altering the S-CNCs/GO ratio, modifying the spatial distribution relationship of stabilizers in the emulsions. At an S-CNCs concentration of 1 g/L and a GO concentration of 3 g/L, the Pickering emulsion demonstrated excellent stability and exhibited no delamination after 31 days of storage. A series of graphene oxide@cellulose nanocrystal (GO@CNC) nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized in this study using a room temperature-based simple modified hummers process. The morphological structures, as well as chemical characteristics of these materials, were characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and other techniques. The results show that the as-prepared nanoparticles are made up of crystallite grains with an average size of around 7.82, 14.69, 10.77, 7.82, and 12.51 nm for GO, CNC, GO1@CNC1, GO2@CNC3, and GO3@CNC3 respectively, and OH & COOH functionalities on the NPs' surfaces. GO@CNC NPs exhibit significantly better sensing characteristics towards acetone when compared to virgin GO nanoplatelets; specifically, the optimal sensor based on GO3@CNC3 NPs showed the highest response (60.88 at 5 ppm), which was higher than that of the virgin GO sensor at 200 °C operating temperature and including those reported. Purpose: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a malignant disease with serious impacts on human health and quality of life worldwide. This disease is traditionally treated through a combination of surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. However, the efficacy of traditional treatments is hindered by systemic toxicity, limited therapeutic effects, and drug resistance. Fibroblast activation protein (FAP) is a membrane-bound protease. Although FAP has limited expression in normal adult tissues, it is highly expressed in the tumor microenvironment of many solid cancers - a characteristic that makes it an ideal target for anticancer therapy. In this study, we constructed a nano-drug delivery system (NPF@DOX) targeting FAP to increase the therapeutic efficiency of synergistic chemo-photothermal therapy against OSCC., Methods: We utilized PEGylated nano-graphene oxide (NGO) to link doxorubicin (DOX) and fluorescently-labeled, FAP-targeted peptide chains via hydrogen bonding and π-π bonding to enhance the targeting capability of NPF@DOX. The synthesis of NPF@DOX was analyzed using UV-Vis and FT-IR spectroscopy and its morphology using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Additionally, the drug uptake efficiency in vitro, photo-thermal properties, release performance, and anti-tumor effects of NPF@DOX were evaluated and further demonstrated in vivo., Results: Data derived from FT-IR, UV-Vis, and TEM implied successful construction of the NPF@DOX nano-drug delivery system. Confocal laser scanning microscopy images and in vivo experiments demonstrated the targeting effects of FAP on OSCC. Furthermore, NPF@DOX exhibited a high photothermal conversion efficiency (52.48%) under near-infrared radiation. The thermogenic effect of NPF@DOX simultaneously promoted local release of DOX and apoptosis based on a pH-stimulated effect. Importantly, FAP-targeted NPF@DOX in combination with PTT showed better tumor suppression performance in vivo and in vitro than did either therapy individually., Conclusion: NPF@DOX can precisely target OSCC, and combined treatment with chemical and photothermal therapy can improve the therapeutic outcomes of OSCC. A successful attempt has been made to improve the mechanical properties of Hydroxyapatite (HAp) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) composite nanoparticles (NPs). Various proportions of HAp and rGO were synthesized to improve the mechanical properties. HAp NPs were prepared using the wet precipitation method and further calcined to form crystalline particles. The physicochemical characterization of the HAp NPs revealed that the crystalline size and percentage of crystallinity were calculated to be 42.49 ± 1.2 nm and 44% post calcination. Furthermore, the rGO-HA composites were prepared using ball milling and obtained in the shape of pellets with different ratios of rGO (10, 20, 30, 40, 50% wt.). The mechanical properties have been evaluated through a Universal testing machine. Compared to calcined HAp (cHAp), the strength of variants significantly enhanced with the increased concentration of rGO. The compressive strength of HA-rGO with the ratio of the concentration of 60:40% by weight is a maximum of about 10.39 ± 0.43 MPa. However, the porosity has also been bolstered by increasing the concentration of rGO, which has been evaluated through the liquid displacement method. Introduction: The aggregation of graphene oxide (GO) is considered as main challenge, although GO possesses excellent mechanical properties which arouses widespread attention as reinforcement for polymers., Objectives: In this study, silicon dioxide (SiO 2 ) nanoparticles were decorated onto surface of GO nanosheets through in situ growth method for promoting dispersion of GO in poly(l-lactic acid) (PLLA) bone scaffold., Methods: Hydroxyl and carboxyl functional groups of GO provided sites for SiO 2 nucleation, and SiO 2 grew with hydrolysis and polycondensation of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and finally formed nanoparticles onto surface of GO with covalent bonds. Then, the GO@ SiO 2 nanocomposite was blended with PLLA for the fabrication of bone scaffold by selective laser sintering (SLS)., Result: The results indicated that the obtained SiO 2 were distributed relatively uniformly on surface of GO under TEOS concentration of 0.10 mol/L (GO@SiO 2 -10), and the covering of SiO 2 on GO could increase interlayer distance of GO nanosheets from 0.799 nm to 0.894 nm, thus reducing van der Waals forces between GO nanosheets and facilitating the dispersion. Tensile and compressive strength of scaffold containing GO@SiO 2 hybrids were significantly enhanced, especially for the scaffold containing GO@SiO 2 -10 hybrids with enhancement of 30.95 % in tensile strength and 66.33 % in compressive strength compared with the scaffold containing GO. Mn 3 O 4 nanoparticles composed of porous reduced graphene oxide nanosheets (Mn 3 O 4 @p-rGO) with enhanced oxidase-like activity were successfully fabricated through an in-situ approach for fast colorimetric detection of ascorbic acid (AA). The residual Mn 2+ in the GO suspension of Hummers method was directly reused as the manganese source, improving the atom utilization efficiency. Benefiting from the uniform distribution of Mn 3 O 4 nanoparticles on the surface of p-rGO nanosheets, the nanocomposite exhibited larger surface area, more active sites, and accelerated electron transfer efficiency, which enhanced the oxidase-like activity. Mn 3 O 4 @p-rGO nanocomposite efficiently activate dissolved O 2 to generate singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ), leading to high oxidation capacity toward the substrate 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) without the extra addition of H 2 O 2 . Furthermore, the prominent absorption peak of the blue ox-TMB at 652 nm gradually decreased in the presence of AA, and a facile and fast colorimetric sensor was constructed with a good linear relationship (0.5-80 μM) and low LOD (0.278 μM) toward AA. Owing to the simplicity and excellent stability of the sensing platform, its practical application for AA detection in juices has shown good feasibility and reliability compared with HPLC and the 2, 4-dinitrophenylhydrazine colorimetric method. Combination of chemotherapy and photothermal therapy (PTT) is an effective way for the treatment of cancer. Graphene oxide (GO) with a large specific surface area and strong near-infrared (NIR) absorbance have been widely used as both the chemotherapeutic carriers and photothermal agents. The smaller lateral size and higher oxidation degree of GO corresponding to better dispersion in water and lower cytotoxicity. Therefore, the preparation of ultrafine GO nanosheets (UGO) with the controlled size and high oxidation degree is of significant importance to meet the demands of biological applications. Herein, we developed a versatile drug delivery nanoplatform based on poly(dopamine) (PDA) modified ultrasmall graphene oxide (UGO) with small size (average size of 30 nm) and high oxidation content (45 wt. %). The fabricated PDA-modified UGO (UGP) exhibits well biocompatibility, excellent photothermal performance and high drug loading capacity of doxorubicin (DOX). Under NIR laser irradiation, the photothermal-induced release of DOX could achieve the combination of chemotherapy and PTT for efficient therapy of breast cancer. The wide use of carbon-based materials for various purposes leads to their discharge in the aquatic systems, and simultaneous occurrence with other environmental contaminants, such as pharmaceutical drugs. This co-occurrence can adversely affect exposed aquatic organisms. Up to now, few studies have considered the simultaneous toxicity of nanomaterials, and organic contaminants, including pharmaceutical drugs, towards aquatic plants. Thus, this study aimed to assess the toxic effects of the co-exposure of propranolol (PRO), and nanomaterials based on cellulose nanocrystal, and graphene oxide in the aquatic macrophyte Lemna minor. The observed effects included reduction of growth rate in 13% in co-exposure 1 (nanomaterials + PRO 5 μg L -1 ), and 52-64% in co-exposure 2 (nanomaterials + PRO 51.3 mg L -1 ), fresh weight reduction of 94-97% in co-exposure 2 compared to control group, and increased pigment production caused by co-exposure treatments. The analysis of PCA showed that co-exposure 1 (nanomaterials + PRO 5 μg L -1 ) positively affected growth, and fresh weight, and co-exposure 2 positively affected pigments content. The multifaceted drug carrier system is an emerging trend in delivering chemotherapeutic drugs and photosensitizers for the synergistic effect. In this work, we have designed a functionalized graphene oxide (GO) based carrier system for combined chemo-photodynamic therapeutic effects. Doxorubicin (DOX) and rose bengal (RB) were entrapped on the surface of GO via hydrophobic and π-π stacking interactions. The functional group determination, crystalline properties, surface morphology, and hydrodynamic size were evaluated using FT-IR, XRD, SEM, TEM, AFM, and DLS analysis. At 24 h, the entrapment efficiency was 65 % DOX and 40.92 % RB, and the loading capacities were 16.9 % DOX and 5.68 % RB observed at 30 min. The drug release percentage was higher in pH-2.6 rather than in pH-5.5, 6.8, and 7.4 pH environments. The in-vitro toxicity analysis using the LDH assay reveals that the DOX and RB co-loaded carriers had a significant cytotoxic effect on MCF-7 cells, indicating that the carrier could improve the therapeutic efficacy of DOX. Morphological changes were studied using inverted light microscopy; the cells were irradiated with a laser 525 nm 10 J/cm 2 for 2 min 51 sec, and it was observed that the DOX and RB co-loaded carrier with laser-irradiated cells exposed the high-level morphological changes with the occurrence of apoptotic cell death. Compared to free DOX, the DOX/RB co-loaded carrier + laser had an efficient anticancer activity, as confirmed by DAPI staining cell uptake, flow cytometry, and intracellular ROS generation analysis. The DOX and RB co-loaded carrier clearly exhibits the RB-mediated photodynamic action on MCF-7 cells in response to external laser light irradiation. It permits an on-demand dual-payload release to trigger an instantaneous photodynamic and chemo treatment for cancer cell eradication. Background: Graphene-based nanomaterials possess unique optical, physicochemical and biomedical properties which make them potential tools for imaging and therapy. Manganese oxide nanoparticles are attractive candidates for contrast agents in magnetic resonance imagint (MRI). We used manganese oxide (Mn3O4) and highly reduced graphene oxide (HRG) to synthesize hybrid nanoparticles (HRG-Mn3O4) and tested their efficacy for photodynamic therapy (PDT) in breast cancer cells., Methods: The newly synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy, UV-visible spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses. We used standard protocols of cytotoxicity and PDT after exposing A549 cells to various concentrations of hybrid nanoparticles (HRG-Mn3O4). We also performed fluorescence microscopy for live/dead cellular analysis. A549 cells were incubated with nanoparticles for 24 h and stained with fluorescein diacetate (green emission for live cells) and propidium iodide (red emission for dead cells) to visualize live and dead cells, respectively., Results: The cell viability analysis showed that more than 98% of A549 cells survived even after the exposure of a high concentration (100 μg/mL) of nanomaterials. These results confirmed that the HRG-Mn3O4 nanoparticles are nontoxic and biocompatible at physiological conditions. When the cell viability analysis was performed after laser irradiation, we observed significant and concentration-dependent cytotoxicity of HRG-Mn3O4 as compared to Mn3O4 nanoparticles. Fluorescence microscopy showed that almost 100% cells were viable when treated with phosphate buffered saline or Mn3O4 while only few dead cells were detected after exposure of HRG-Mn3O4 nanoparticles. However, laser irradiation resulted in massive cellular damage by HRG-Mn3O4 nanoparticles which was directly related to the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS)., Conclusions: HRG-Mn3O4 hybrid nanoparticles are stable, biocompatible, nontoxic, and possess therapeutic potential for photodynamic therapy of cancer. Background: The skin is one of the most essential organs of the body that plays a vital role. Protecting the skin from damage is a critical challenge. Therefore, the ideal wound dressing that has antibacterial, mechanical, biodegradable, and non-toxic properties can protect the skin against injury and accelerate and heal the wound., Objective: In this study, a nano-wound dressing is designed for the first time. This work is aimed to optimize and act as a dressing to speed up the wound healing process., Methods: Graphene Oxide (GO) was produced by the hummer method. In the next step, GO-copper (Cu) nanohybrid was prepared, then GO-Cu -Curcumin (Cur) nanohybrid was synthesized. Using the electrospinning method, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/GO-Cu -Cur were spun, and finally, related analyses were performed to investigate the properties and synthesized chemicals., Results: The results showed that the nanocomposite was synthesized correctly, and the diameter of the nanofibers was 328 nm. The use of PVA improved the mechanical properties. In addition, the wound dressing had biodegradable, antimicrobial, and non-toxic properties. Graphene oxide (GO) is a graphene derivative used for numerous applications in which biomedical uses are significant. However, for this application, the security of GO is doubtful. In this work, we synthesized this nanoparticle to assess its toxicity in male mice. In addition, we studied the effects of this nanomaterial on behavior by administering GO intraperitoneally to mice at different doses (2 mg/kg and 5 mg/kg) for five days. Subsequently, we performed biochemical analyses of blood serum and measured peroxidase and malondialdehyde (MDA) activity. Then, we performed histological sections to evaluate the brain's and liver's pathological and morphological changes. The data showed that the open field tests did not alter the locomotor activity. Furthermore, the elevated cross-maze tests showed no anxiety effect in the GO doses in the animals. The biochemical analyses indicated that GO influenced the level of biochemical parameters. Although, the oxidative stress assay showed an increase in peroxidase and MDA activity after GO intoxication. However, histopathological analysis of liver sections showed that GO caused liver inflammation, whereas, at the brain level, GO did not affect neuronal cells. It has become more widely available to use biopolymer-based films as alternatives to conventional plastic-based films due to their non-toxic properties, flexibility, and affordability. However, they are limited in application due to deficiencies in their properties. The marine collagen was the specimen for the present study. Thus, the main objective was to reinforce marine collagen-based films with 1.0% ( w / w of the dry polymer weight) of iron oxide nanoparticles (IO-NPs), graphene oxide nanoparticles (GO-NPs), or a combination of both oxides (GO-NPs/IO-NPs) as antibacterial and antioxidant additives to overcome some of the limitations of the film. In this way, the nanoparticles were incorporated into the film-forming solution (2% w / v in acetic acid, 0.05 M) and processed by casting. Thereafter, the films were dried and analyzed for their physicochemical, mechanical, microstructural, and functional properties. The results show that the effective combination of GO-NPs/IO-NPs enhanced the physicochemical properties by increasing the water contact angle (WCA) of the films from 77.2 to 84.4° and their transparency ( T ) from 0.5 to 5.2. Furthermore, these nanoparticles added antioxidant and antibacterial value to the films, with free radical inhibition of up to 95.8% and 23.8 mm of bacteria growth inhibition (diameter). As a result, both types of nanoparticles are proposed as suitable additives to be incorporated into films and enhance their different properties.

As important structural units, biomass nanomaterials have exhibited great potentials to construct high-performance macroscopic materials for broad applications by liquid assembly. However, the liquid aggregation of nanomaterials was less investigated. Here, we demonstrate that the one-dimensional (1D) zwitterionic chitin nanocrystals (ZChNCs) can be reversibly captured and released by two-dimensional (2D) planar catchers of graphene oxide (GO) sheets. The dominant electrostatic regulation strategy by pH variation drives that there are three reversible changes for the liquid aggregation of ZChNCs and GO, which were the isolated dispersion state (pH > 7), homogeneous hybridization state (7 ≥ pH ≥ 5), and partially stacked hybridization state (pH < 5), respectively. We found there are no sedimentation during the change of liquid aggregation with the higher absolute Zeta potentials (almost>30 mV). Moreover, the ZChNCs-GO nanohybrids have reached a maximum Zeta potential up to -80 mV, which can be explained by the ionization of excess carboxyl groups on the surface of ZChNCs. Besides, the electrostatic regulation endows the nanohybrids with rheological behavior, which is beneficial to the macro assembly of liquid nanomaterials. This work reports the development and application of a disposable electrochemical platform for vanillic acid (VA) detection using screen-printed electrode modified with reduced graphene oxide, iron nanoparticles and molecularly imprinted poly(pyrrole) film. The electrochemical platform was characterized by cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Using optimized conditions, the proposed disposable platform presented linear concentration ranges of 1.0 × 10 -9 to 1.5 × 10 -7 mol/L. The limits of detection and quantification obtained for the device were 3.1 × 10 -10 and 1.0 × 10 -9 mol/L, respectively. The electrochemical platform was found to be selective for VA recognition and presented voltammetric responses with good repeatability and stability. The analytical methodology developed was applied for VA determination in banana and orange peels. Detection of sub-ppm acetic acid (CH 3 COOH) is in demand for environmental gas monitoring. In this article, we propose a CH 3 COOH gas sensor based on Sn 3 O 4 and reduced graphene oxide (RGO), where the assembly of Sn 3 O 4 -RGO nanocomposites is dependent on the synthesis method. Three nanocomposites prepared by three different synthesis methods are investigated. The optimum assembly is by hydrothermal reactions of Sn 4+ salts and pre-reduced RGO (designated as RS nanocomposite). Raman spectra verified the fingerprint of RGO in the synthesized RS nanocomposite. The Sn 3 O 4 planes of (111), (210), (130), (13¯2) are observed from the X-ray diffractogram, and its average crystallite size is 3.94 nm. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy on Sn3d and O1s spectra confirm the stoichiometry of Sn 3 O 4 with Sn:O ratio = 0.76. Sn 3 O 4 -RGO-RS exhibits the highest response of 74% and 4% at 2 and 0.3 ppm, respectively. The sensitivity within sub-ppm CH 3 COOH is 64%/ppm. Its superior sensing performance is owing to the embedded and uniformly wrapped Sn 3 O 4 nanoparticles on RGO sheets. This allows a massive relative change in electron concentration at the Sn 3 O 4 -RGO heterojunction during the on/off exposure of CH 3 COOH. Additionally, the operation is performed at room temperature, possesses good repeatability, and consumes only ~4 µW, and is a step closer to the development of a commercial CH 3 COOH sensor.

As a novel drug delivery technology, chitosan (CHI) nanoparticles are encapsulated in graphene oxide (GO) with caffeic acid (CA). The nanocarrier technique combines targeted drug delivery with molecular imaging to provide new cancer insights. Attachment of CA, an anticancer agent for controlled drug release, to functionalized graphene oxide (GON) utilizing 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) was followed by encapsulation of GO with folic acid (FA) attached CHI to produce this novel system. FT-IR was used to characterize and confirm the chemical production process. Brunau-Emmet-Teller (BET) analysis was used to validate multi-holes and nanometric dimensions (1-100 nm) and assess their drug administration use. Release and loading tests showed a pH dependence and implied CA hydrogen-bonding in GON. CA encapsulation and loading percentages are 86 % and 67 %, respectively. The acidic environment (pH 5.3) of tumor cells may produce a larger release of CA, and the release rate of CA maintains a constant trend, indicating the drug is released for more than a week (because the release rate has not reached zero). The proposed method provides a potential candidate for a novel drug delivery system in cancer therapy. For biotechnology applications, a novel nanobiocomposite was synthesized based on modification of graphene oxide (GO) by extracted silk fibroin (SF), natural polymer pectin (Pec) and zinc chromite (ZnCr 2 O 4 ) nanoparticles (NPs). The structure and properties of hybrid nanobiocomposite GO-Pec/SF/ZnCr 2 O 4 such as thermal stability, less toxicity, biocompatibility, antibacterial, and biodegradable were proved by using field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), Fourier-transformed infrared (FT-IR), Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), and X-Ray diffraction (XRD). Recent advancements in nanotechnology have enabled us to develop sophisticated multifunctional nanoparticles or nanosystems for targeted diagnosis and treatment of several illnesses, including cancers. To effectively treat any solid tumor, the therapy should preferably target just the malignant cells/tissue with minor damage to normal cells/tissues. Graphene oxide (GO) nanoparticles have gained considerable interest owing to their two-dimensional planar structure, chemical/mechanical stability, excellent photosensitivity, superb conductivity, high surface area, and good biocompatibility in cancer therapy. Many compounds have been functionalized on the surface of GO to increase their biological applications and minimize cytotoxicity. The review presents an overview of the physicochemical characteristics, strategies for various modifications, toxicity and biocompatibility of graphene and graphene oxide, current trends in developing GO-based nano constructs as a drug delivery cargo and other biological applications, including chemo-photothermal therapy, chemo-photodynamic therapy, bioimaging, and theragnosis in cancer. Further, the review discusses the challenges and opportunities of GO, GO-based nanomaterials for the said applications. Graphene oxide (GO) features distinctive physical and chemical characteristics; therefore, it has been intensively investigated in environmental remediation as a promising material for clean-up of soil contamination and water purification and used as immobilization material. Plastic is a widespread pollutant, and its breakdown products such as nanoplastics (NPs) should be evaluated for potential harmful effects. This study is aimed to evaluate the influence of GO on the toxicity of polystyrene (PS) NPs to the marine microalgae Picochlorum sp. over a period of 4 weeks. The capability of GO to reduce the toxic effects of PS NPs was assessed through investigating exposure sequence of GO in the presence of 20 nm diameter-sized polystyrene NPs. This was accomplished through five test groups: microalgae pre-exposed to GO prior to incubation with PS NPs, microalgae post-exposed to GO after incubation with PS NPs, microalgae simultaneously exposed to GO and PS NPs, and individual exposure of microalgae to either GO or PS NPs. Cytotoxicity assay results demonstrated that microalgae pre-exposed to GO prior to incubation with PS NPs showed an increased viability and chlorophyll a content. The pre-exposure to GO has reduced the growth inhibition rate (IR) from 50%, for microalgae simultaneously exposed to GO and PS NPs, to 26%, for microalgae pre-exposed to GO. Moreover, the lowest level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) was recorded for microalgae exposed to GO only and microalgae pre-exposed to GO. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observations revealed some morphological changes of both algae and their extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) upon GO and PS NPs exposure combinations. The sequence of GO exposure to aquatic microorganisms might affect the level of harm caused by the PS NPs. Therefore, application of GO as part of an immobilization material and in the removal of pollutants from water should be carefully investigated using different pollutants and aquatic organisms., (© 2022. β-Cyclodextrin-based compounds are used to develop and innovate materials that protect against corrosion due to their sustainability, low cost, environmental friendliness, excellent water solubility and high inhibition efficiency. However, corrosion potentials of β-CD-based compounds were not reviewed with the modern trends. The essence of the problem is that a deep understanding of the development and innovation of β-CD-based compounds as corrosion inhibitors is very important in creating next-generation materials for corrosion protection. In this review, the fundamental behaviour, importance, developments and innovations of β-CD modified with natural and synthetic polymers, β-CD grafted with the organic compounds, β-CD-based supramolecular (host-guest) systems with organic molecules, polymer β-CD-based supramolecular (host-guest) systems, β-CD-based graphene oxide materials, β-CD-based nanoparticle materials and β-CD-based nanocarriers as corrosion inhibitors for various metals were reviewed and discussed with recent research works as examples. In addition, the corrosion inhibition of β-CD-based compounds for biocorrosion, microbial corrosion and biofouling was reviewed. It was found that (i) these compounds are sustainable, inexpensive, environmentally friendly, and highly water-soluble and have high inhibition efficiency; (ii) the molecular structure of β-CD makes it an excellent molecular container for corrosion inhibitors compounds; (iii) the β-CD is excellent core to develop the next generation of corrosion inhibitors. It is recommended that (i) β-CD compounds would be synthesized by green methods, such as using biological sustainable catalysts and green solvents, green methods include irradiation or heating, energy-efficient microwave irradiation, mechanochemical mixing, solid-state reactions, hydrothermal reactions and multicomponent reactions; (ii) this review will be helpful in creating, enhancing and innovating the next green and efficient materials for future corrosion protection in high-impact industries., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier Ltd. Cortisol, a famous stress biomarker, can be considered a potential predictor of cardiac diseases in humans. The presence of cortisol in saliva has encouraged researchers to design point-of-care devices for cortisol concentration in biological fluids. Here, human salivary cortisol was analyzed through a new non-invasive voltammetric aptasensor. Although cortisol is an electroactive compound, generally, the reduction in the current peak has been considered; however, this does not show a strong signal on a bare electrode surface, especially at low concentration levels. Hence, in this study, cortisol concentration was measured electrochemically and indirectly by monitoring the difference between electrochemical probe signals in the presence and absence of cortisol. A new polymeric nanocomposite of samarium molybdate flower-like nanoparticles decorated in poly(pyrrole) was electro-synthesized on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode. Then, reduced graphene oxide was cast on the surface. Finally, the cortisol aptamer was immobilized covalently on the reduced graphene oxide. This platform was used to increase the oxidation current peak of the ferricyanide solution as a probe as well as its electrocatalyst. The novel designed polymeric has the potential ability for effective immobilization of aptamers on the electrode surface without decreasing their biological activities. Additionally, it can enhance the probe electrochemical signal. The differential pulse voltammetric method (DPV) was applied as the detection technique. By optimizing the effective parameters, a determination range of 5.0 × 10 -14 -1.5 × 10 -11 mol/L and a limit of detection of 4.5 × 10 -14 mol/L were obtained. Selectivity of the proposed aptasensor relative to β-estradiol, progesterone and also prednisolone was studied as well. Finally, cortisol in a healthy human saliva sample was successfully analyzed by the proposed biosensors.

The concentration of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide oxidized form (NAD + ) changes during aging, and the production of NAD + can significantly affect both health span and life span. However, it is still of great challenge to regenerate NAD + from its precursors. Herein, we introduce a method to prepare multimetallic nanoparticles (including Au, Pt, Cu, and MgO) that can efficiently promote the conversion of NADH to NAD + . The nanoparticles are made by mixing reduced graphene oxide-polyethyleneimine-polyacrylic acid nano-films with metallic salts, where four different metal ions are reduced and grow at the surface of the nanolayers. The morphology, size, and growth rate of nanoparticles can be controlled by adding surfactants, applying an electric field, and so forth. Our multimetallic nanoparticles exhibit excellent catalytic performance that a complete conversion of NADH to NAD + can be finished in 3 min without introducing additional oxygen. This work presents a way for the preparation of multimetallic nanoparticles to promote NAD + regeneration, which shows great promise for the future design of high-performance materials for antiaging.

Here, conjugate of nano-graphene oxide (GO) and titanium dioxide nanoparticle (nTiO 2 ) was proposed for the photocatalytic degradation of two toxic azo dyes, Congo red (CR) and Methylene blue (MB), under sunlight irradiation. Furthermore, the optimized weight ratio between GO and nTiO 2 of 1:5 demonstrated the highest degradation efficiency. The nanoconjugate induced 85% degradation of 40 ppm of CR in 60 min and a complete degradation within 70 min, while it degraded more than 90% of 20 ppm of MB in 80 min. The photocatalyst can be reused for five cycles of photocatalysis. Thus, the photocatalytic potential of GO/nTiO 2 under visible light may be used as a very suitable and cost-effective photocatalyst industrially for the removal of toxic dyes from water., (© 2022. Purpose: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is among the leading causes of cancer death worldwide. Graphene oxide (GO) plus doxorubicin (DOX) have low toxicity and facilitate drug carriage and provide enough surface. The GO-DOX anticancer effects against HCT-116 human CRC cells were compared with that of pure GO and DOX compounds., Methods: Different concentrations of graphene oxide (GO), doxorubicin (DOX), and graphene oxide plus doxorubicin (GO-DOX) were prepared. The MTT test was conducted to determine the viability of cells and flow cytometry was performed following DOX, GO, and GO-DOX exposure. Expressions of caspase 3, Bax, and ATG5 autophagy-related genes were investigated using RT-qPCR technique., Results: In the MTT test, DOX and GO at 100 µg/mL and 40 µg/mL exerted 50% cell death (LC50) against the HCT-116 cells. We observed significant differences in GO-DOX LC50 at concentrations of 1 (p = 0.003), 2.5 (p = 0.003), 5 (p = 0.00009), and 10 µg/mL (p = 0.0001). The rate of apoptosis following GO, DOX, and GO-DOX included 24%, 31%, and 56%, respectively. The GO-DOX significantly increased the ATG5 (3.1-fold, p < 0.0001), caspase 3 (4.7-fold, p < 0.0001), and Bax (4.3-fold, p < 0.0001) gene expression., Conclusion: The GO-DOX exerted anticancer effects against the HCT-116 cells via inducing the apoptosis and autophagy., (© 2021. Fumonisin (FB) is a common mycotoxin in corn, wheat, oats, and their related products. FB1 is the most predominant among fumonisins and is responsible for severe food contamination that may have deleterious effects on public health. Therefore, the demand for achieving sensitive detection of FB1 is becoming more and more pressing. In the present study, a creative biosensor for FB1 detection was developed based on fluorescence resonance energy transfer between upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) and graphene oxide (GO) with catalytic hairpin assembly (CHA) target recycling and amplification. In the presence of FB1, UCNPs were bound to the CHA amplification products away from the GO surface. Simultaneously, a strong fluorescence signal was produced at 980 nm (near-infrared light). The correlation between the concentration of FB1 and the fluorescence intensity exhibited a high relevance (R 2  = 0.9971) ranging from 0.032 to 500 ng mL -1 , and the method reached a considerably low limit of detection (0.0121 ng mL -1 ). It could be applied for the detection of FB1 in corn, oats, and infant supplements. The sensitive detection of FB1 proves the application potential of this method on food safety detection. Graphene oxide (GO) inevitably interacts with engineered and/or natural nanoparticles (NPs) after releasing into aquatic environments. It is observed that GO could form heteroaggregates with differently shaped TiO 2 NP S at pHs 4.0 and 7.0 rather than pH 10.0. Optimal pHs for the maximal heteroaggregation were around 6.63 and 4.92 for TiO 2 spheres and fibers, respectively, which was dominated by electrostatic attraction. The optimal concentration ratio for TiO 2 spheres was 10 times higher than TiO 2 fibers, due to cross-linking configuration and stronger van der Waals force of TiO 2 fibers with GO. Pre-homoaggregation of TiO 2 NPs could promote subsequent heteroaggregation while the promotion was negligible at high ionic strength (e.g., > critical coagulant concentrations), and a longer pre-homoaggregation time showed a stronger promotion (750 s > 150 s > 0 s). Natural organic matter (NOM) obviously inhibited GO-TiO 2 heteroaggregation at pH 4.0 compared with pH 7.0 due to stronger steric hindrance. Moreover, strong disturbance (e.g., sonication) could break down the heteroaggregates, and the disaggregation and re-aggregation processes were shape-independent.
