Nanofluid thermal radiation in a semi porous channel is investigated in existence of magnetic field. Influence of thermal radiation and Joule heating on energy equation is taken into account. Differential transform method is utilized to solve this problem. Effects of Reynolds number, Hartmann number, suction parameter, Eckert number, radiation parameter on flow and heat transfer are presented. Results show that temperature gradient augments with rise of Reynolds number, suction parameter, and Radiation parameter.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the micropolar nanofluid flow across a sinusoidal cylinder in presence of the magnetic field. The base fluid is an equal mixture of ethylene glycol and water; also,ithybridized by iron oxide (Fe3O4) andMolybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanoparticles.In this study, equations are transformed from PDEs to ODEs and solved by Rung-Kutta fifth-order. After solving the equations, it can be seen that various nondimension parameters are involved (e.g.micro-polar parameter, nanoparticle volume fraction, shape factor, and magnetic field parameter), therefore a sensitivity analysis is applied to investigate the effect ofinvolvedparameters. Besides, variation of Nusselt number and skin friction coefficient are studied.Further analysis showed that Nusselt number is an increasing function of volume fraction and increment in the magnetic field leads to higherskin friction coefficient.Also, whenmicro-gyrationis zero the microelements in the vicinity of the wall are unable to rotate, and by increasing micro-gyration parameters these microelements meet rotation.As a novelty, the hybrid Micropolar nanofluid suspends in mixture fluid flow in sinusoidal cylinder geometry have been investigated. Purpose Natural convection heat transfer analysis can be completed using entropy generation analysis. This study aims to accomplish both the natural convection heat transfer and entropy generation analyses for a hexagonal cavity loaded with Cu-H2O nanoliquid subjected to an oriented magnetic field. Design/methodology/approach Control volume-based finite element method is applied to solve the non-dimensional forms of governing equations and then, the entropy generation number is computed. Findings The results portray that both the average Nusselt and entropy generation numbers boost with increasing aspect ratio for each value of the undulation number, while both of them decrease with increasing the undulation number for each amplitude parameter. There is a maximum value for the entropy generation number at a specified value of Hartmann number. Also, there is a minimum value for the entropy generation number at a specified value of angle of the magnetic field. When the volume fraction of nanoparticles grows, the average Nusselt number increases and the entropy generation number declines. The entropy generation number attains to a maximum value at Ha = 14 for each value of aspect ratio. The average Nusselt number ascends 2.9 per cent and entropy generation number decreases 1.3 per cent for Ha = 0 when ϕ increases from 0 to 4 per cent. Originality/value A hexagonal enclosure (complex geometry), which has many industrial applications, is chosen in this study. Not only the characteristics of heat transfer are investigated but also entropy generation analysis is performed in this study. The ecological coefficient of performance for enclosures is calculated, too.

The aim of the current study is natural convection analysis conjugated with entropy generation analysis in an incinerator shaped permeable enclosure loaded with Al2O3–H2O nanofluid subjected to the magnetic field with a rectangular wavy heater block positioned on the bottom of the cavity wall. Purpose This paper aims to study the impacts of viscous dissipation, thermal radiation and Joule heating on squeezing flow current and the heat transfer mechanism for a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) nanofluid flow in parallel disks during a suction/blowing process. Design/methodology/approach First, the governing momentum/energy equations are transformed into a non-dimensional form and then the obtained equations are solved by modified Adomian decomposition method (ADM), known as Duan–Rach approach (DRA). Findings The effect of the radiation parameter, suction/blowing parameter, magnetic parameter, squeezing number and nanoparticles concentration on the heat transfer and flow field are investigated in the results. The results show that the fluid velocity increases with increasing suction parameter, while the temperature profile decreases with increasing suction parameter. Originality/value A complete analysis of the MHD fluid squeezed between two parallel disks by considering Joule heating, thermal radiation and adding different nanoparticles using the novel method called DRA is addressed.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to find the approximate solutions of unsteady squeezing nanofluid flow and heat transfer between two parallel plates in the presence of variable heat source, viscous dissipation and inclined magnetic field using collocation method (CM). Design/methodology/approach The partial governing equations are reduced to nonlinear ordinary differential equations by using appropriate transformations and then are solved analytically by using the CM. Findings It is observed that the enhancing values of aligned angle of the magnetic causes a reduction in temperature distribution. It is also seen that the effect of nanoparticle volume fraction is significant on the temperature but negligible on the velocity profile. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, no research has been carried out considering the combined effects of inclined Lorentz forces and variable heat source on squeezing flow and heat transfer of nanofluid between the infinite parallel plates.

In this study, three-dimensional Bodewadt hybrid nanofluid flow has been investigated. Base fluids are water and hexanol which contain $$\hbox {Fe}_{3}\hbox {O}_{4}$$ and $$\hbox {MoS}_{2}$$ . The governing nonlinear PDEs are converted into nonlinear ODEs and the nonlinear equations are solved by the homotopy perturbation method (HPM). The effects of nanoparticle volume fraction, Eckert number, base fluid and shape factor on entropy generation, Nusselt number, skin friction coefficient and Bejan number have been studied. Entropy generation is increased with an increment in Eckert number; while, it is decreased by growth in nanoparticle volume fraction and shape factor. In a similar situation, hexanol has higher rate of irreversibility, higher Bejan number and higher Nusselt number than water. The skin friction coefficient is not a function of the Eckert number and shape factor, but it is an increasing function of nanoparticle volume fraction. In this paper, by averaging the differences of Nusselt number and skin friction coefficient between water and hexanol, it can be observed that the Nusselt number and skin friction coefficient for hexanol are 11% and 5% more than water, respectively. Indeed, in a fixed situation, hexanol-based fluid flows have higher heat transfer and drag than water-based fluid flows.

In this study, flow and heat transfer of Magnetohydrodynamic squeezing nanofluid flow between two infinity parallel plates have been investigated. The fluid is an equal mixture of Ethylene-glycol and water. This paper discusses the hybrid nanoparticle while Particles are F e 3 O 4 and M o S 2 . The nonlinear equations have been solved by Akbari- Ganji's method, and the result is compared by the numerical method and reported in figures. The effect of Harman number, base fluid, squeeze number, and Heat source on flow and heat transfer have been computed. The result shows that the Akbari- Ganji's method and the numerical method are in good agreement. Akbari- Ganji's method can be useful for such problems, and we can see that the maximum difference in velocity profile and thermal profile between AGM and the numerical method is less than one percent. The velocity profile reduced by an increase in squeeze number and Hartman number. The thermal profile raised with an increase in squeeze number, but it decreased with increasing in Hartman number and heat source parameter.

Purpose The purpose of this study is, mixed convection on magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of Eyring–Powell nanofluid over a stretching cylindrical surface in the presence of thermal radiation, chemical reaction, heat generation and Joule heating effect is investigated and analyzed. The Brownian motion and thermophoresis phenomenon are used to model nanoparticles (Buongiorno’s model). Design/methodology/approach The numerical method is applied to solve the governing equations. Obtained results from the effects of different parameters changes on velocity, temperature and concentration profiles are reported as diagrams. Findings As a result, velocity profile has been reduced by increasing the Hartman number (magnetic field parameter) because of the existence of Lorentz force and increasing Eyring–Powell fluid parameter. In addition, the nanoparticle concentration profile has been reduced because of increase in chemical reaction parameter. At the end, the effects of different parameters on skin friction coefficient and local Nusselt number are investigated. Originality/value Eyring–Powell nanofluid and MHD have significant influence on flow profile.

The present study investigates heat transfer of nanofluid flow in micro channel heat sink (MCHS) in the presence of a magnetic field. Al2O3-water nanofluid is chosen the best among other nanolfluid and is used as a coolant fluid in solution. The KKL correlation is utilized for calculation of the effective thermal conductivity and viscosity of nanofluid. Modified Darcy equation is applied for porous medium and the two-equation model with thermal dispersion is employed for heat transfer between fluid and solid sections. Since the coupled heat transfer equations of nanofluid and solid phase are nonlinear, the analytical Collocation method (CM) is employed to solve this problem. Effects of the Hartmann number, nanoparticles volume fraction, nanoparticle diameter, porosity, channel aspect ratio on temperature distribution, velocity and Nusselt number are investigated deliberately. Results show that Nusselt number has direct relationship with applying a magnetic field on MCHS.

In this article, Fe3O4- water nanofluid EHD forced convection is investigated. Different shapes of nanoparticles are considered. The porous enclosure has one moving wall which is considered as positive electrode. Control Volume based Finite Element Method is employed to simulate this problem. Outputs show the roles of Reynolds number (Re), Fe3O4- H2O nanofluid volume fraction (ϕ), Darcy number (Da), radiation parameter (Rd) and supplied voltage (Δφ). Results demonstrate that temperature gradient is an enhancing function of Coulomb force and permeability. Maximum values for temperature gradient is obtained for platelet shape nanoparticles.

In this paper, thermal-flow boundary layer of single-phase Nanofluid over a horizontal cylinder tube under magnetic force is investigated using Optimal Collocation Method (OCM) and numerical method. After presenting the governing equations and solving them by OCM, the accuracy of results is examined by fourth order Runge–Kutta numerical method. The boundary conditions contain infinite condition due to stretching cylinder, thus it needs to a powerful analytical method to solve it. OCM which is firstly introduced by authors is the simple/powerful method for this analysis. Effects of different nanoparticles (TiO 2 , Cu and Ag) are investigated on the temperature/velocity profiles as well as Nusselt number and boundary layer thickness. Additionally, the influence of relevant parameters such as the magnetic parameter, the solid volume fraction of nanoparticles on the flow, heat transfer, Nusselt number and skin friction coefficient is discussed.

Influence of external magnetic source on free convection of ferrofluid is reported in this paper. Obtaining systems have been solved through Control volume based finite element method. Influences of Rayleigh, Hartmann numbers, size of inner cylinder and volume fraction of Fe 3 O 4 on hydrothermal characteristics are presented. Results indicate that both temperature gradient and nanofluid velocity decease with augment of Hartmann number. Thermal boundary layer thickness reduces with augment of r in . Nusselt number decreases with rise of Lorentz forces while it enhances with rise of buoyancy forces.

One of the important problems in the field of heat transfer is the investigation of natural convection heat transfer in cavities. The next step is the study of entropy generation. The object of the present work is the investigation of the entropy generation in a semi-annulus porous cavity filled with Cu-water nanofluid in the presence of a magnetic field. The outer and inner semi-circular walls are kept at constant temperatures whereas the two other walls are insulated. Firstly, the governing equations (i.e. continuity, momentum and energy equations) are numerically solved by the Control Volume based Finite Element Method (CVFEM) and then the entropy generation number is calculated. The effects of the Rayleigh number, Darcy number, Hartmann number, angle of magnetic field, the nanoparticle volume fraction, the particle shape and the angle of turn for the enclosure, number and amplitude of undulation in the wavy wall on the entropy generation number are investigated. Also, a new criterion for the evaluation of cavity thermal performance is defined that is called ECOP. The results were compared with those of the literature and good agreement was observed. The results show that the Nusselt number and entropy generation number increase as the Rayleigh number and the nanoparticle volume fraction increase. Also, the entropy generation number decreases with increasing the Hartmann number whereas it increases as the Darcy number increases.

Influence of magnetic field on CuO–H 2 O nanofluid forced convective heat transfer is investigated considering Marangoni convection. Similarity solution is used to obtain the ordinary equations. Runge-Kutta integration scheme is utilized to solve this problem. Influences of Hartmann number and CuO volume fraction on flow and heat transfer characteristics are presented. Results indicate that rate of heat transfer is an augmenting function of CuO volume fraction. Influence of CuO volume fraction on normal velocity is higher than tangential velocity. Nusselt number has reverse relationship with magnetic number.

Magnetohydrodynamic nanofluid flow between two parallel vertical permeable sheets is investigated. Buongiorno model is selected for nanofluid simulation. Joule heating and viscous dissipation impacts are taken into account. Differential Transform Method (DTM) is utilized to solve the final formulae which are obtained via similarity transformation. Roles of Prandtl and Hartmann numbers, Eckert number, suction parameter, Buoyancy ratio, Schmidt number, thermophoretic and Brownian motion parameters are presented. Results illustrated that shear stress enhances with rise of Eckert number but it reduces with rise of Lorentz forces. Temperature gradient on left sheet augments with enhances of Lorentz forces but it decreases with rise of Brownian motion.

In this study, heat and mass transfer characteristic of unsteady nanofluid flow between parallel plates is investigated. The important effect of Brownian motion and thermophoresis has been included in the model of nanofluid. The governing equations are solved via Differential Transformation Method. The validity of this method was verified by comparison previous work which is done for viscous fluid. The analytical investigation is carried out for different governing parameters namely; the squeeze number, Hartmann number, Schmidt number, Brownian motion parameter, thermophoretic parameter and Eckert number. The results indicate that skin friction coefficient has direct relationship with Hartmann number and squeeze number. Also it can be found that Nusselt number increases with increase of Hartmann number, Eckert number and Schmidt number but it is decreases with augment of squeeze number.

In this research, a numerical study on the solar radiation effect on the magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) nanofluid flow over a stretching plate is performed. A different application of Rosseland approximation for thermal radiation is introduced in this study and Keller-Box numerical method is applied to solve the problem. An excellent agreement was found between our calculated results and those obtained by Mushtaq et al using Runge-Kutta method. Also, the influences of different parameters such as magnetic field, local radiation, Brownian motion and thermophoresis parameters as well as Eckert, Lewis and Biot numbers are explained through graphs for velocity, temperature and nanoparticles concentration. As a main outcome, our results show that, regardless of the selected value of radiation parameter Rd, the temperature increases as the Brownian motion and thermophoretic effects are simultaneously increased. Furthermore, the nanoparticles volume fraction is found to decrease upon increasing the Brownian motion parameter.

Unsteady turbulent magnetohydrodynamic nanofluid hydrothermal treatment is studied. The zero-equation turbulence model is used to simulate turbulent flow. The modeling results obtained by applying the hybrid differential transformation method–finite difference method to solve this problem confirm its viability. An analytical procedure is used for finding the effects of the problem parameters. Results indicate that the average Nusselt number over the lower plate depends linearly on volume fraction of nanofluid, Hall parameter, turbulent Eckert number, and Reynolds number whereas it is inversely proportional on the Hartmann number and the turbulent parameter.

In this paper the peristaltic flow of nanofluids in drug delivery systems is studied analytically and numerically. The flow is considered under low Reynolds number with long wavelength approximation. Least squares method (LSM), Galerkin method (GM) and fourth-order Runge–Kutta numerical method (NUM) are used to solve the present problem. The results are presented to study temperature, velocity, nanoparticle fraction field and pressure gradient. The effects of some physical parameters such as Brownian motion parameter, thermophoresis parameter, thermal Grashof number and basic-density Grashof number on non-dimensional velocity, nanoparticle fraction distribution and temperature profiles are considered. Early results implied that increasing thermal Grashof number reduces the axial velocity profile, while increasing species Grashof number has conversed treatment.

A theoretical investigation was conducted of laminar fully developed mixed convection of alumina–water nanofluid through a vertical annulus, to improve its heating/cooling performance. We focused on controlling the nanoparticle migration and studying how it affected the heat transfer rate and pressure drop. Because the nanoparticles have very small dimensions, we only considered Brownian motion and thermophoretic diffusivity as the main causes of nanoparticle migration. Because thermophoresis is very sensitive to temperature gradients, we imposed various temperature gradients using asymmetric heating. Considering hydrodynamically and thermally fully developed flow, the governing equations were reduced to two-point ordinary boundary value differential equations and were solved numerically. The imposed thermal asymmetry changed the direction of nanoparticle migration and distorted the velocity, temperature, and nanoparticle concentration profiles. Moreover, we found optimum values for the radius ratio (ζ) and heat flux ratio (ɛ); with these optimum values, the nanofluid enhanced the efficacy of the system.

Electric field effect on nanofluid forced convective heat transfer in an enclosure with sinusoidal wall is presented. Control Volume based Finite Element Method (CVFEM) is utilized to simulate this problem. Fe 3 O 4 –ethylene glycol nanofluid is used as working fluid. Numerical investigations are conducted for several values of Reynolds number, nanoparticle volume fraction and supplied voltage. Results show that supplied voltage can change the flow shape. Coulomb force causes isotherms to be denser near the moving wall. Heat transfer rises with augmentation of supplied voltage and Reynolds number. The effect of electric field on heat transfer is more pronounced at low Reynolds number.

In this study, effect of variable magnetic field on nanofluid flow and heat transfer analysis between two parallel disks is investigated. By using the appropriate transformation for the velocity, temperature and concentration, the basic equations governing the flow, heat and mass transfer were reduced to a set of ordinary differential equations. These equations subjected to the associated boundary conditions were solved analytically using Homotopy perturbation method. The analytical investigation is carried out for different governing parameters namely: squeeze number, suction parameter, Hartmann number, Brownian motion parameter, thermophrotic parameter and Lewis number. Results show that Nusselt number has direct relationship with Brownian motion parameter and thermophrotic parameter but it is a decreasing function of squeeze number, suction parameter, Hartmann number and Lewis number.

Three dimensional problem of steady nanofluid deposition on an inclined rotating disk is illustrated. The important effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis have been included in the model of nanofluid. The basic partial differential equations are reduced to ordinary differential equations which are solved numerically using the fourth-order Runge–Kutta method. The numerical investigation is carried out for different governing parameters namely: Normalized thickness, Schmidt number, Brownian parameter and thermophoretic parameter. Results show that Nusselt number is an increasing function of each active parameter. Latent heat has direct relationship with Schmidt number, Brownian parameter and thermophoretic parameter but it has reverse relationship with Normalized thickness.

In this study, the least square method (LSM) and the Galerkin method (GM) are used to simulate flow and heat transfer of nanofluid flow between two parallel plates. One of the plates is externally heated, and the other plate, in which coolant fluid is injected through it, expands or contracts with time. The fluid in the channel is water containing different nanoparticles (Cu, Ag and Al2O3). The effective thermal conductivity and viscosity of the nanofluid are calculated by the Maxwell–Garnetts (MG) and Brinkman models, respectively. The effects of the nanoparticle volume fraction, Reynolds number, expansion ratio and power law index on flow and heat transfer are investigated. The results show that the Nusselt number increases with an increase of the nanoparticle volume fraction and Reynolds number. Also it can be found that in order to reach the maximum Nusselt number, copper should be used as a nanoparticle.

In this essay, the physical aspects of the steady laminar boundary layer flow of CNTs/(C2H6O2–H2O) hybrid base nanofluid over a porous stretching cylinder under impact of magnetic force has been explored using 4th order Runge-kutta (RKF 4) numerical method. The impact of changeable, various parameters like: Reynolds number (Re), CNTs volume fraction (ϕ), Squeeze number (S), and Magnetic parameter (M) on the thermal and flow boundary layers are exemplified quantitatively through figures. As well as, impacts of various nanoparticles are analyzed on the velocity/temperature profiles and Nusselt number. Outputs illustrate that: the parameters S, M and Re have a negative and decreasing effect on skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number, therefore have reduced surface drag force and heat transfer rate. As well as, the choice of types of nanoparticles has a significant impact on the stream function and the cooling/heating processes. In this study, asymmetric laminar flow and heat transfer of nanofluid between contracting rotating disks are investigated. The fluids in the channel are water containing different nanoparticles Cu, Ag and Al2O3. The effective thermal conductivity and viscosity of nanofluid are calculated by the Chon and Brinkman models, respectively. The governing equations are solved via the fourth-order Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg method (NUM) and least square method (LSM). The effects of the nanoparticle volume fraction, rotational Reynolds number, injection Reynolds number, expansion ratio and s on flow and heat transfer are considered. The results show that as s increases temperature profile increases and the point of maximum radial velocity is shifted towards the middle of the two disks. Also the results indicated that temperature profile becomes more flat near the middle of two disks with the increase of injection but opposite trend is observed with increase of expansion ratio.

In this paper, heat transfer and flow analysis for a non-Newtonian third grade nanofluid flow in porous medium of a hollow vessel in presence of magnetic field are simulated analytically and numerically. Blood is considered as the base third grade non-Newtonian fluid and gold (Au) as nanoparticles are added to it. The viscosity of nanofluid is considered a function of temperature as Vogel's model. Least Square Method (LSM), Galerkin method (GM) and fourth-order Runge-Kutta numerical method (NUM) are used to solve the present problem. The influences of the some physical parameters such as Brownian motion and thermophoresis parameters on non-dimensional velocity and temperature profiles are considered. The results show that increasing the thermophoresis parameter (N(t)) caused an increase in temperature values in whole domain and an increase in nanoparticles concentration just near the inner wall of vessel. Furthermore by increasing the MHD parameter, velocity profiles decreased due to magnetic field effect.

In this study, heat transfer of a fin shaped microchannel heat sink (MCHS) cooled by Cu–water nanofluid is investigated and temperature distribution in solid section (fin) and fluid section (Cu–water) are obtained by porous media approach and least square method and the results are compared with numerical procedure. The effective thermal conductivity and viscosity of nanofluid are calculated by the Parsher and Brinkman models respectively and MCHS is considered as a porous medium proposed by Kim and Kim. Modified Darcy equation is applied to the fluid and porous medium for heat transfer between fluid and solid sections. In addition, to deal with nanofluid heat transfer, a model based on Brownian-motion of nanoparticles is used. The effects of the nanoparticles volume fraction, porosity, Darcy number, microchannel dimensions, etc. on temperature distribution, velocity and Nusselt number are considered. As an outcome, by increasing the nanoparticles volume fraction, Brownian motion of the particles which carries heat and distributes it to the surroundings increases, and consequently difference between coolant and wall temperature will become less. Also, the optimum point for MCHS design is calculated by minimizing the friction factor which obtained channel aspect ratio (αs) is 2.45.

The results show that increasing the thermophoresis parameter (Nt) caused an increase in temperature values in whole domain but it makes an increase in nanoparticle concentration near the inner cylinder wall.

In this paper, Least Square and Galerkin methods are used to solve the problem of laminar nanofluid flow in a semi-porous channel in the presence of transverse magnetic field. Obtained results are compared with fourth order Runge–Kutta numerical method. The difference in the velocity profiles is almost negligible when the two methods (LSM and GM) are compared. The results obtained by GM are slightly more accurate than LSM in this problem. The influence of the three dimensionless numbers: the nanofluid volume fraction, Hartmann number and Reynolds number on non-dimensional velocity profile are considered. The results show that velocity boundary layer thickness decrease with increase of Reynolds number and it increases as Hartmann number increases.

In this paper, the unsteady flow of a nanofluid squeezing between two parallel plates is investigated. The Adomian Decomposition Method (ADM) is used to solve this problem. The base fluid is water containing different kinds of nanoparticles namely copper, silver, alumina and titanium oxide. The effective thermal conductivity and viscosity of the nanofluid are calculated using the Maxwell–Garnetts (MG) and Brinkman models, respectively. The analytical investigation is carried out for various governing parameters such as the squeeze number, nanoparticle volume fraction and Eckert number. The results show that for the case in which two plates are moving together, the Nusselt number increases with increase of nanoparticle volume fraction and Eckert number while it decreases with growth of the squeeze number.

This article investigates the theoretical study of steady stagnation point flow with heat transfer of a nanofluid towards a stretching surface. It is assumed that the fluid impinges on the wall obliquely. The model used for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis. The basic partial differential equations are reduced to ordinary differential equations which are solved numerically using the fourth-order Runge–Kutta method. Numerical results are obtained for distributions of velocity, temperature and concentration, as well as, for the local Nusselt number and local Sherwood number for several values of governing parameters. The results indicate that the local Nusselt number decreases with an increase in both Brownian motion parameter Nb and thermophoresis parameter Nt. However, the local Sherwood number increases with an increase in both thermophoresis parameter Nb and radiation effect R, but it decreases as the values of Nt increase.
