This study proposes an innovative approach to combat the escalating threat of antibiotic resistance in bacteria by introducing a novel ZnO-propolis nanocomposite (ZnO-P NCs). The overuse of antibiotics, particularly during events like the COVID-19 pandemic, has intensified bacterial resistance, necessitating innovative solutions. The study employs a cost-effective and controllable biosynthesis method to produce ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs), with propolis extract crucially contributing to the reduction and stabilization of Zn 2+ ions. A biodegradable nano-propolis matrix is then created by incorporating ZnO-NPs, forming the ZnO-P NCs. Structural stability is confirmed through FT-IR and Zeta potential analysis, while nanoscale properties are validated via TEM, SEM, and XRD analyses. The antimicrobial efficacy of various substances, including propolis, nano propolis, ethanolic propolis extract, ZnO-NPs, and ZnO-P NCs, is assessed against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, alongside a comparison with 28 antibiotics. Among the bacteria tested, Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 ATCC15692 was more sensitive (40 mm) to the biosynthesized nanocomposite ZnO-P NCs than to ZnO-NPs (38 mm) and nanopropolis (32 mm), while Escherichia coli was resistant to nanopropolis (0 mm) than to ZnO-NPs (31 mm), and ZnO-P NCs (34 mm). The study reveals a synergy effect when combining propolis with green-synthesized ZnO-NPs in the form of ZnO-P NCs, significantly improving their efficiency against all tested bacteria, including antibiotic-resistant strains like E. coli. The nanocomposite outperforms other materials and antibiotics, demonstrating remarkable antibacterial effectiveness. SEM imaging confirms the disruption of bacterial cell membranes by ZnO-NPs and ZnO-P NCs. The study emphasizes the potential applications of ZnO-NPs integrated into biodegradable materials and underscores the significance of the zinc oxide-propolis nanocomposite in countering antimicrobial resistance. Listeria monocytogenes is a concerning foodborne pathogen incriminated in soft cheese and meat-related outbreaks, highlighting the significance of applying alternative techniques to control its growth in food. In the current study, eco-friendly zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) were synthesized using Rosmarinus officinalis, Punica granatum, and Origanum marjoram extracts individually. The antimicrobial efficacy of the prepared ZnO-NPs against L. monocytogenes was assessed using the agar well diffusion technique. Data indicated that ZnO-NPs prepared using Origanum marjoram were the most effective; therefore, they were used for the preparation of gelatin-based bionanocomposite coatings. Furthermore, the antimicrobial efficacy of the prepared gelatin-based bionanocomposite coatings containing eco-friendly ZnO-NPs was evaluated against L. monocytogenes in Talaga cheese (an Egyptian soft cheese) and camel meat during refrigerated storage at 4 ± 1 o C. Talaga cheese and camel meat were inoculated with L. monocytogenes, then coated with gelatin (G), gelatin with ZnO-NPs 1% (G/ZnO-NPs 1%), and gelatin with ZnO-NPs 2% (G/ZnO-NPs 2%). Microbiological examination showed that the G/ZnO-NPs 2% coating reduced L. monocytogenes count in the coated Talaga cheese and camel meat by 2.76 ± 0.19 and 2.36 ± 0.51 log CFU/g, respectively, by the end of the storage period. Moreover, G/ZnO-NPs coatings controlled pH changes, reduced water losses, and improved the sensory characteristics of Talaga cheese and camel meat, thereby extending their shelf life. Background: Despite cisplatin's long history as a cornerstone in cancer therapy, both acquired chemoresistance and significant impacts on healthy tissues limit its use. Hepatotoxicity is one of its side effects. Adjunct therapies have shown promise in not only attenuating liver damage caused by cisplatin but also in enhancing the efficacy of chemotherapy. In this context, a new quaternary ammonium chitosan Schiff base (QACSB) was synthesized and applied as an encapsulating agent for the in-situ synthesis of QACSB-ZnO nanocomposite., Material and Methods: Thirty male albino rats were classified into Group 1 (control) distilled water, Group 2 (Cisplatin-treated) (12 mg/kg, i.p), and Group 3 (QACSB-ZnO NCs/cisplatin-treated) (150 mg/kg/day QACSB-ZnO NCs, i.p) for 14 days + a single dose of cisplatin. Liver functions, tissue TNF-α, MDA, and GSH were measured as well as histopathological and immunohistochemical studies were performed., Results: The QACSB-ZnO NCs significantly restore liver functions, tissue TNF-α, MDA, and GSH levels (p < 0.001). Histopathological examination showed patchy necrosis in the cisplatin-treated group versus other groups. Background: Enhancing the antibacterial properties of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) dental resins is crucial in preventing secondary infections following dental procedures. Despite the necessity for such improvement, a universally applicable method for augmenting the antibacterial properties of PMMA without compromising its mechanical properties and cytotoxicity remains elusive. Consequently, this study aims to address the aforementioned challenges by developing and implementing a composite material known as zinc oxide/graphene oxide (ZnO/GO) nanocomposites, to modify the PMMA., Methods: ZnO/GO nanocomposites were successfully synthesized by a one-step procedure and fully characterized by TEM, EDS, FTIR and XRD. Then the physical and mechanical properties of PMMA modified by ZnO/GO nanocomposites were evaluated through water absorption and solubility test, contact angle test, three-point bending tests, and compression test. Furthermore, the biological properties of the modified PMMA were evaluated by direct microscopic colony count method, crystal violet staining and CCK-8., Results: The results revealed that ZnO/GO nanocomposites were successfully constructed. When the concentration of nanocomposites in PMMA was 0.2 wt. %, the flexural strength of the resin was increased by 23.4%, the compressive strength was increased by 31.1%, and the number of bacterial colonies was reduced by 60.33%. Meanwhile, It was found that the aging of the resin did not affect its antibacterial properties, and CCK-8 revealed that the modified PMMA had no cytotoxicity., Conclusion: ZnO/GO nanocomposites effectively improved the antibacterial properties of PMMA. In this study, Ziziphus spina christi leaves was used to synthesize a trimetallic CuO/Ag/ZnO nanocomposite by a simple and green method. Many characterizations e.g. FTIR, UV-vis DRS, SEM-EDX, TEM, XRD, zeta-size analysis, and DLS, were used to confirm green-synthesized trimetallic CuO/Ag/ZnO nanocomposite. The green, synthesized trimetallic CuO/Ag/ZnO nanocomposite exhibited a spherical dot-like structure, with an average particle size of around 7.11 ± 0.67 nm and a zeta potential of 21.5 mV. An extremely homogeneous distribution of signals, including O (79.25%), Cu (13.78%), Zn (4.42%), and Ag (2.55%), is evident on the surface of green-synthetic nanocomposite, according to EDX data. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to effectively use an industrially produced green trimetallic CuO/Ag/ZnO nanocomposite as a potent antimicrobial agent by employing different statistically experimental designs. The highest yield of green synthetic trimetallic CuO/Ag/ZnO nanocomposite was (1.65 mg/mL), which was enhanced by 1.85 and 5.7 times; respectively, by using the Taguchi approach in comparison to the Plackett-Burman strategy and basal condition. A variety of assays techniques were utilized to evaluate the antimicrobial capabilities of the green-synthesized trimetallic CuO/Ag/ZnO nanocomposite at a 200 µg/mL concentration against multidrug-resistant human pathogens. After a 36-h period, the tested 200 µg/mL of the green-synthetic trimetallic CuO/Ag/ZnO nanocomposite effectively reduced the planktonic viable counts of the studied bacteria, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, which showed the highest percentage of biofilm reduction (98.06 ± 0.93 and 97.47 ± 0.65%; respectively)., (© 2024. A ZnO-Graphene oxide nanocomposite (Z-G) was prepared in order to exploit the biomedical features of each component in a single anticancer material. This was achieved by means of an environmentally friendly synthesis, taking place at a low temperature and without the involvement of toxic reagents. The product was physicochemically characterized. The ZnO-to-GO ratio was determined through thermogravimetric analysis, while scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy were used to provide insight into the morphology of the nanocomposite. Using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, it was possible to confirm that the graphene flakes were homogeneously coated with ZnO. The crystallite size of the ZnO nanoparticles in the new composite was determined using X-ray powder diffraction. The capacity of Z-G to enhance the toxicity of the anticancer drug Paclitaxel towards breast cancer cells was assessed via a cell viability study, showing the remarkable anticancer activity of the obtained system. Such results support the potential use of Z-G as an anticancer agent in combination with a common chemotherapeutic like Paclitaxel, leading to new chemotherapeutic formulations.

This study used Morinda citrifolia leaf (MCL) extract to synthesise Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) and ZnO decorated silver nanocomposites (ZnO/Ag NCs). The synthesized nanomaterials structural morphology and crystallinity were characterized using a Field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The antimicrobial activity of ZnO NPs and ZnO/Ag NCs was evaluated using human nosocomial bacterial pathogens. The highest antimicrobial activity was recorded for ZnO/Ag NCs at the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) at 80 and 100 μg/mL for Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus than ZnO NPs at the MIC of 120 and 140 μg/mL for Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus. Furthermore, ROS detection, viability assay and bacterial membrane integrity analysis of ZnO/Ag NCs treated P. aeruginosa and S. aureus revealed the fundamental bactericidal mechanism involving cell wall, cell membrane interaction and release of cytoplasmic contents. In addition, ZnO/Ag NCs and ZnO NPs showed higher toxicity towards A549 lung cancer cells than the non-cancerous RAW264 macrophage cells, with IC 50 of 242 and 398 µg/mL respectively, compared to IC 50 of 402 and 494 µg/mL for the macrophage cells. The present in vitro and in vivo study aimed to fabricate and characterize linalool-zinc oxide nanoparticles (Lin-ZNP) and evaluate their effectiveness against Toxoplasma gondii infection in terms of inflammation, oxidative stress, and pathogenicity. Lin-ZNP was synthesized using an ethanolic solution of polyvinyl alcohol. The anti-Toxoplasma and cytotoxicity activities of Lin-ZNP were investigated, along with its effects on nitric oxide (NO) production, caspase-3 activity, and pro-inflammatory genes. After treating T. gondii-infected mice with Lin-ZNP for 14 days, the number and size of tissue cysts, antioxidant potential, pro-inflammatory cytokines, and T. gondii pathogenicity-related genes were evaluated by real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blot analysis. The Lin-ZNP composite showed a reduced tendency with an average size of 105 nm. Lin-ZNP significantly reduced the viability of tachyzoites. The obtained selectivity index higher than 10, indicating high specificity for parasites with low cytotoxicity to normal cells. The Lin-ZNP significantly (p < 0.05) increased the production of NO, caspase-3 activity, and the expression levels of pro-inflammatory genes. Lin-ZNP significantly (p < 0.001) decreased the size and number of tissue cysts and caused a significant reduction in the level of malondialdehyde and a considerable increase (p < 0.001) in antioxidant enzymes and their expression genes. Lin-ZNP significantly downregulated both mRNA and protein expression of the inflammation-related markers associated with the TLRs/NF-κB pathway. The expression levels of the T. gondii pathogenicity-related genes were significantly downregulated (p < 0.05). This study successfully synthesized ZnO-CuO nanocomposite using the hydrothermal method with Carica papaya leaf extract. The incorporation of the leaf extract significantly enhanced the nanocomposite properties, a novel approach in scientific research. Characterization techniques, including X-ray diffraction, Fourier Transmission Infrared spectroscopy, and Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis, confirmed a cubic crystal structure with an average size of 22.37 nm. The Fourier Transmission Infrared spectrum revealed distinctive vibrations at 627, 661, and 751 cm -1 corresponding to ZnO-CuO nanocomposite corresponding to stretching and vibration modes. SEM images confirmed a cubic-like and irregular structure. The nanocomposite exhibited outstanding photocatalytic activity, degrading methylene blue dye by 96.73% within 120 min under visible light. Additionally, they showed significant antimicrobial activity, inhibiting Staphylococcus aureus (20 mm) and Klebsiella pneumonia (17 mm). Aims: In this study, the antifungal efficacy and phytotoxicity of silica coated porous zinc oxide nanoparticle (SZNP) were analyzed as this nanocomposite was observed to be a suitable platform for slow release fungicides and has the promise to bring down the dosage of other agrochemicals as well., Methods and Results: Loading and release kinetics of tricyclazole, a potent fungicide, were analyzed by measuring surface area (SBET) using Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) isotherm and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), respectively. The antifungal efficacy of ZnO nanoparticle (ZNP) and SZNP was investigated on two phytopathogenic fungi (Alternaria solani and Aspergillus niger). The morphological changes to the fungal structure due to ZNP and SZNP treatment were studied by field emission-scanning electron microscopy. Nanoparticle mediated elevation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in fungal samples was detected by analyzing the levels of superoxide dismutase, catalase, thiol content, lipid peroxidation, and by 2,7-dichlorofluorescin diacetate assay. The phytotoxicity of these two nanostructures was assessed in rice plants by measuring primary plant growth parameters. Further, the translocation of the nanocomposite in the same plant model system was examined by checking the presence of fluorescein isothiocyanate tagged SZNP within the plant tissue., Conclusions: ZNP had superior antifungal efficacy than SZNP and caused the generation of more ROS in the fungal samples. Even then, SZNP was preferred as an agrochemical delivery vehicle because, unlike ZNP alone, it was not toxic to plant system. Alternate antibiotics developed through the involvement of nanomaterials are gaining interest due to their economical and lower toxicity concerns. A newly developed biopolymer-based polyvinylpyrrolidone/zinc oxide (PVP/ZnO) nanocomposite (NCs) was efficiently synthesized by an environment-friendly approach, utilizing onion and garlic peel extract as a bio-surfactant, zinc acetate as the source, PVP as the stabilizing agent, and sodium hydroxide as the precipitant. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) investigations verified the crystalline properties of ZnO, PVP, and PVP/ZnO-based NCs. The structure of the biopolymer-linked ZnO particles interpolated inside the PVP array was seen to have a layered and flaky structure, as validated by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) analysis, which revealed its occurrence in the nanometer range. The XRD examination verified that the surface topographical image of PVP/ZnO NCs had an average thickness of 21 nm. The PVP/ZnO nanocrystals demonstrated exceptional photocatalytic efficacy, with a breakdown rate of 88% and almost 92% for the methylene blue dye. Therefore, the PVP/ZnO matrix exhibits superior antibacterial activity compared to other extracts, resulting in greater microbial suppression. The results above indicate that the ZnO-intercalated PVP array has a stronger reinforcing effect than other components. Introduction: Bimetallic nanoparticles, specifically Zinc oxide (ZnO) and Silver (Ag), continue to much outperform other nanoparticles investigated for a variety of biological uses in the field of cancer therapy. This study introduces biosynthesis of bimetallic silver/zinc oxide nanocomposites (Ag@ZnO NCs) using the Crocus sativus extract and evaluates their anti-cancer properties against cervical cancer., Methods: The process of generating bimetallic nanoparticles (NPs), namely Ag@ZnO NCs, through the utilization of Crocus sativus extract proved to be uncomplicated and eco-friendly. Various methods, such as UV-vis, DLS, FTIR, EDX, and SEM analyses, were utilized to characterize the generated Ag@ZnO NCs. The MTT assay was employed to assess the cytotoxic properties of biosynthesized bimetallic Ag@ZnO NCs against the HeLa cervical cancer cell line. Moreover, the impact of Ag@ZnO NCs on HeLa cells was assessed by examining cell survival, ROS production, MMP levels, and induced apoptosis. Through western blot analysis, the expression levels of the PI3K, AKT, mTOR, Cyclin D, and CDK proteins seemed to be ascertained. Using flow cytometry, the cancer cells' progression through necrosis and apoptosis, in addition to the cell cycle analysis, were investigated., Results: Bimetallic Ag@ZnO NCs that were biosynthesized showed a high degree of stability, as demonstrated by the physicochemical assessments. The median size of the particles in these NCs was approximately 80-90 nm, and their zeta potential was -14.70 mV. AgNPs and ZnO were found, according to EDX data. Further, Ag@ZnO NCs hold promise as a potential treatment for cervical cancer. After 24 hours of treatment, a dosage of 5 µg/mL or higher resulted in a maximum inhibitory effect of 58 ± 2.9. The concurrent application of Ag/ZnO NPs to HeLa cells resulted in elevated apoptotic signals and a significant generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). As a result, the bimettalic Ag@ZnO NCs treatment has been recognized as a chemotherapeutic intervention by inhibiting the production of PI3K, AKT, and mTOR-mediated regulation of propagation and cell cycle-regulating proteins., Conclusions: The research yielded important insights into the cytotoxic etiology of biosynthesized bimetallic Ag@ZnO NCs against HeLa cells. The biosynthesized bimetallic Ag@ZnO NCs have a significant antitumor potential, which appears to be associated with the development of oxidative stress, which inhibits the development of the cell cycle and the proliferation of cells. In this research, we fabricated a functional conductive nanocomposite with valuable properties through a chitin (CH) and cellulose (CE) polymerization process, incorporating ZnO/(0.1, 0.2, 0.3 mol.%) CuO bioactive nanoparticles. These bioactive nanoparticles, synthesized through sol-gel and polymerization interactions, greatly enhanced the structural, dielectric, and antimicrobial characteristics of CH-CE@ZnO/CuO conductive nanocomposites. The morphological analysis revealed that these nanoparticles, with diameters ranging from 11-25 nm, formed covalent bonds with the membrane matrix, bolstering the conductive nanocomposites ' structural integrity and dielectric performance. The dielectric properties of the conductive nanocomposites were significantly enhanced by the even distribution of ZnO/CuO nanoparticles within the CH-CE composite. In this research, a novel active food packaging material was developed by blending starch, chitosan, and plant-based mucilage with zinc oxide nanoparticles. The polymeric nanocomposite film, created by incorporating zinc oxide nanoparticles into the mixture using a straightforward approach, was analyzed for its structural and functional attributes using FTIR, XRD, SEM, and TGA/DSC. These analyses revealed a robust interaction between the polymers' functional groups and the nanoparticles, forming a stable film. The film's mechanical properties, including tensile strength and Young's modulus, were high. It also showed reduced wettability and water solubility, enhancing water resistance. The biodegradability rate was 100 %. Antibacterial tests against Bacillus sp. and Pseudomonas sp. showed significant inhibition zones of 26 mm and 30 mm, respectively, demonstrating strong antibacterial effectiveness. The film's non-target toxicity was assessed through phytotoxicity experiments on Vigna angularis and soil nutrient evaluations, with no negative impact on plant growth or soil health observed. Aquaculture industry suffers significant limitations such as low resistance to diseases and expensive feed. This study investigated the antibacterial and immunostimulatory activities of ZnO-Ulva lactuca nanocomposite (ZnO-Ul NC) in the Procambarus clarkii. Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) and ZnO-Ul NC were synthetized and characterized by electron microscopies as well as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. ZnO NPs and ZnO-Ul NC inhibited the growth of the isolated species Citrobacter freundii and Enterobacter hormaechei. For immunostimulatory evaluation, six crayfish groups (control, U. lactuca, ZnO L, ZnO H, ZnO-Ul L, and ZnO-Ul H) were fed on commercial diet, Ulva lactuca powder, and low or high dose of ZnO NPs or ZnO-Ul NCs, respectively for 90 days. The highest levels of total hemocyte count, granular cells%, phenoloxidase (PO) activity in hemolymph, and NO, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and GSH in hepatopancreas were all reported in the ZnO-Ul groups. The expression of proPO, SOD, and lysozyme exhibited the highest upregulation in the ZnO-Ul H group. Taken together, dietary ZnO-Ul NC significantly improved the non-specific immunity and antioxidant milieu of the crayfish at the genomic and proteomic levels. Naringenin (NRG) inhibits the fungal 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase accountable for ergosterol synthesis in Candida albicans (C. albicans), a causative agent for cutaneous candidiasis. In present research, NRG was complexed with ZnO nanomaterial (NRG-Zn 2+ ) to synthesize NRG-Zn 2+ nanocomposites. The particle size and ζ-potential of NRG-Zn 2+ nanocomposites were respectively estimated to be 180.33 ± 1.22-nm and - 3.92 ± 0.35-mV. In silico data predicted the greater affinity of NRG-Zn 2+ nanocomposite for 14α-demethylase and ceramide in comparison to NRG alone. Later, NRG-Zn 2+ nanocomposites solution was transformed in to naringenin-zinc oxide nanocomposites loaded chitosan gel (NRG-Zn-CS-Gel) with viscosity and firmness of 854806.7 ± 52386.43 cP and 698.27 ± 10.35 g, respectively. The ex-vivo skin permeation demonstrated 70.49 ± 5.22% skin retention, significantly greater (P < 0.05) than 44.48 ± 3.06% of naringenin loaded chitosan gel (NRG-CS-Gel) and 31.24 ± 3.28% of naringenin solution (NRG Solution). NRG-Zn-CS-Gel demonstrated 6.71 ± 0.84% permeation of NRG with a flux value of 0.046 ± 0.01-µg/cm 2 /h. The MIC 50 of NRG-Zn-CS-Gel against C. albicans was estimated to be 0.156-µg/mL with FICI (fractional inhibitory concentration index) of 0.018 that consequently exhibited synergistic efficacy. Further, NRG-Zn-CS-Gel demonstrated superior antifungal efficacy in C. albicans induced cutaneous candidiasis infection in Balb/c mice. The fungal burden in NRG-Zn-CS-Gel treated group was 109 ± 25 CFU/mL, significantly lower (P < 0.05) than positive control (2260 ± 446 CFU/mL), naringenin loaded chitosan gel (NRG-CS-Gel; 928 ± 127 CFU/mL) and chitosan gel (CS-Gel; 2116 ± 186 CFU/mL) treated mice. Further, histopathology examination and cytokine profiling of TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-10 revealed the healing of skin and inflammation associated with cutaneous candidiasis infection. Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the taste masking of Paracetamol granules in the range of 250-850 µm, coated by two nanocomposites prepared from Eudragit ® E100, nanozinc oxide, and nanochitosan, respectively, from 1 to 5% by the weight of the granules., Methods: In this study, Paracetamol granules were coated in several formulas with two different types of nanocomposites (polymeric and mineral) on two sizes of granules to reduce bitter taste and with the FBC method and pH-sensitive polymers (Eudragit ® E100)., Results: The effect of nanoparticles (Nano zinc oxide and Nanochitosan) on taste-masking Paracetamol was studied with dissolution-coated granules in vitro by simulating in the oral (pH 6.8) range. Based on the results of the studies, the rate of drug release was confirmed by the taste test, and the formulated granule with 5% nano-chitosan (F14) had the best bitter taste mask function of all samples. These results were also confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis, which showed a smoother and more stable surface than the samples obtained from other formulations., Conclusion: In the comparison of the release of two types of nanocomposites in the dissolution test, it was shown that the type B granules of Paracetamol's 5% nano-chitosan-coated granule (F14) were released 99% less than Paracetamol's 5% nano-ZnO-coated granule (F11). and Paracetamol's 1% nano-chitosan-coated granule (F12) was released 91% less than Paracetamol's 1% nano-ZnO-coated granule (F9). The results showed that nano-chitosan-coated granules have better coverage of bitter taste instead of nano-ZnO.

In this study, we sought to fabricate nickel/zinc oxide nanocomposites utilizing Citrus sinensis (C. sinensis) peel extract (CS-Ni/ZnO NCs) and investigate their ability to impede the JAK/STAT3 signaling pathway in gastric cancer AGS cells. Different methods, including UV-Vis spectral analysis, FT-IR, XRD, FE-SEM, EDAX, DLS, and zeta potential, were used to characterize the fabricated CS-Ni/ZnO NCs. By measuring ROS, MMP, and apoptotic cell death using the appropriate fluorescence describing procedures, the anticancer potential of CS-Ni/ZnO NCs was examined against AGS cells. The synthesized CS-Ni/ZnO NCs displayed a rod structure with a diameter of 74.76 nm. The cytotoxicity assay showed that the CS-Ni/ZnO NCs diminished the viability of the AGS cells in a dosage-dependent manner. Results from the fluorescence probe assay showed that the CS-Ni/ZnO NCs caused apoptosis in AGS cells. JAK/STAT-3 over expressions thought to expand the transcriptional regulation of proliferation and anti-apoptosis. Hence, inhibition of JAK/STAT-3 expression is considered a crucial target for impeding the expansion of gastric cancer proliferation. The JAK/STAT3 signaling cascade was successfully blocked by CS-Ni/ZnO NCs treatment, which also started the apoptotic pathway in the AGS cells. A dynamic chitosan-based ZnO nanocomposite (NC) was fabricated via a cost-effective formulation and an eco-friendly procedure utilizing Cissus quadrangularis (CQ) plant extract. This study investigates the antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, together with the cytocompatibility aspects of chitosan-incorporated ZnO nanocomposite (CS-ZnO/CQE). The formation and structural morphology of the nanocomposites were examined using FTIR, UV-Vis, XRD, XPS, BET, TGA, SEM, and TEM techniques. The antibacterial test results demonstrated the greatest inhibitory zone diameter against S. aureus (19 ± 1.00 mm) and E. coli (17 ± 1.05 mm), assessed through agar well diffusion method. Also, the composite exhibited a DPPH inhibition rate of 78.7 ± 0.34 %, indicating its high effectiveness in neutralizing free radicals. In addition, the nanocomposite exhibited less toxicity towards human erythrocytes, HDF and HEK-293 cells as a result of the biocompatibility exhibited by CS, ZnO, and CQ plant extract. Likewise, it has exceptional cell migratory capacity and possesses biodegradability factors. Chitosan-based nanocomposites (CS NCs) are gaining considerable attention as multifaceted antifungal agents. This study investigated the antifungal activity of NCs against two phytopathogenic strains: Fusarium solani (F. solani) and Alternaria solani (A. solani). Moreover, it sheds light on their underlying mechanisms of action. The NCs, CS-ZnO, CS-CuO, and CS-SiO 2 , were characterized using advanced methods. Dynamic and electrophoretic light scattering techniques revealed their size range (60-170 nm) and cationic nature, as indicated by the positive zeta potential values (from +16 to +22 mV). Transmission electron microscopy revealed the morphology of the NCs as agglomerates formed between the chitosan and oxide components. X-ray diffraction patterns confirmed crystalline structures with specific peaks indicating their constituents. Antifungal assessments using the agar diffusion technique demonstrated significant inhibitory effects of the NCs on both fungal strains (1.5 to 4-fold), surpassing the performance of the positive control, nystatin. Notably, the NCs exhibited superior antifungal potency, with CS-ZnO NCs being the most effective. A. solani was the most sensitive strain to the studied agents. Furthermore, the tested NCs induced oxidative stress in fungal cells, which elevated stress biomarker levels, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and protein carbonyl content (PCC), 2.5 and 6-fold for the most active CS-CuO in F. solani respectively. Additionally, they triggered membrane lipid peroxidation up to 3-fold higher compared to control, a process that potentially compromises membrane integrity. Laurdan fluorescence spectroscopy highlighted alterations in the molecular organization of fungal cell membranes induced by the NCs. CS-CuO NCs induced a membrane rigidifying effect, while CS-SiO 2 and CS-ZnO could rigidify membranes in A. solani and fluidize them in F. solani. In summary, this study provides an in-depth understanding of the interactions of CS-based NCs with two fungal strains, showing their antifungal activity and offering insights into their mechanisms of action. Here, we reported the process for the production of Pd/CuO/ZnO nanocomposite utilizing alkaline protease from Phalaris minor seed extract, which is a unique, effective biogenic approach. Alkaline protease performed a crucial part in the reduction, capping and stabilization of Pd/CuO/ZnO nanocomposites. A series of physicochemical techniques were used to inquire the formation, size, shape and crystalline nature of Pd/CuO/ZnO nanocomposites. The notable performance of the synthesized nanocomposite as a photocatalyst and an antibacterial disinfectant was astonishing. The Pd/CuO/ZnO nanocrystals showed considerable photocatalytic activity by eliminating 99 % of the methylene blue (MB) in <30 min of exposure. After three test cycles, the nanocatalyst demonstrated exceptional reliability as a photocatalyst. The nanocomposite was also discovered to be an effective antibacterial agent, with zones of inhibitory activity for Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria of 30(±0.2), 27(±0.3), 22(±0.2), and 21(±0.3) mm, respectively, in both light and dark conditions. Moreover, the Pd/CuO/ZnO nanocomposites showed strong antioxidant activity by efficiently scavenging 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals. The photocatalytic, antibacterial and antioxidative performance of Pd, CuO, ZnO, and CuO/ZnO were also assessed for the sake of comparison. This study investigates the creation and analysis of chitosan-zinc oxide (CS-ZnO) nanocomposites, exploring their effectiveness in inhibiting bacteria. Two synthesis approaches, physical and chemical, were utilized. The CS-ZnO nanocomposites demonstrated strong antibacterial properties, especially against Staphylococcus aureus, a Gram-positive bacterium. Chemically synthesized nanocomposites (CZ10 and CZ100) exhibited larger inhibition zones (16.4 mm and 18.7 mm) compared to physically prepared CS-Z5 and CS-Z20 (12.2 mm and 13.8 mm) against Staphylococcus aureus. Moreover, CZ nanocomposites displayed enhanced thermal stability, with decomposition temperatures of 281°C and 290°C, surpassing CS-Z5 and CS-Z20 (260°C and 258°C). The residual mass percentages at 800°C were significantly higher for CZ10 and CZ100 (58% and 61%) than for CS-Z5 and CS-Z20 (36% and 34%). UV-Visible spectroscopy revealed reduced band gaps in the CS-ZnO nanocomposites, indicating improved light absorption. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) confirmed uniform dispersion of ZnO nanoparticles within the chitosan matrix. In conclusion, this research underscores the impressive antimicrobial potential of CS-ZnO nanocomposites, especially against Gram-positive bacteria, and highlights their enhanced thermal stability. Mesenchymal stem cells with tissue repair capacity involve in regenerative medicine. MSCs can promote bone repair when employed with nano scaffolds/particles. Here, the MTT and Acridine Orange assay enabled the cytotoxic concentration of Zinc oxide nanoparticles and Polyurethane evaluation. Following culturing adipose tissue-derived MSCs, ADSCs' proliferation, growth, and osteogenic differentiation in the presence of PU with and without ZnO NPs is tracked by a series of biological assays, including Alkaline Phosphatase activity, Calcium deposition, alizarin red staining, RT-PCR, scanning electron microscope, and immunohistochemistry. The results showed boosted osteogenic differentiation of ADSCs in the presence of 1% PU scaffold and ZnO NPS and can thus apply as a new bone tissue engineering matrix. The expression level of Osteonectin, Osteocalcin, and Col1 increased in PU-ZnO 1% on the 7th and 14th days. There was an increase in the Runx2 gene expression on the 7th day of differentiation in PU-ZnO 1%, while it decreased on day 14th. In conclusion, Polyurethane nano scaffolds supported the MSCs' growth and rapid osteogenic differentiation. Polyethyleneglycol-coated biocompatible CuO-ZnO nanocomposites were fabricated hydrothermally varying Zn:Cu ratios as 1:1, 2:1, and 1:2, and their antibacterial activity was determined through the well diffusion method against the Gram-negative Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and the Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus. The minimum inhibitory concentration and the minimum bactericidal concentration values of the synthesized samples were determined. Subsequently, the time synergy kill assay was performed to elucidate the nature of the overall inhibitory effect against the aforementioned bacterial species. The mean zone of inhibition values for all four samples are presented. The inhibitory effect increased with increasing concentration of the nanocomposite (20, 40 and 60 mg/ml) on all the bacterial species except for S. aureus. According to the MBC/MIC ratio, ZnO was found to be bacteriostatic for E. coli and P. aeruginosa, and bactericidal for S. aureus and K. pneumoniae. Zn:Cu 2:1 was bactericidal on all bacterial species. A bacteriostatic effect was observed on E. coli and P. aeruginosa in the presence of Zn:Cu 1:1 whereas, it showed a bactericidal effect on S. aureus and K. pneumoniae. Zn:Cu 1:2 exhibited a bacteriostatic effect on E. coli while a bactericidal effect was observed for E. coli, P. aeruginosa, and K. pneumoniae. The metal oxide nanocomposites were found to be more sensitive towards the Gram-positive strain than the Gram-negative strains. Incorporating two different nanoparticles in nanocomposite films is promising as their synergistic effects could significantly enhance polymer performance. Our previous work conferred the remarkable antimicrobial (AM) properties of the polylactic acid (PLA)-based film using optimal formulations of synergistic graphene oxide (GO)/zinc oxide (ZnO) nanocomposites. This study further explores the release profile of GO/ZnO nanocomposite and their impact on the antimicrobial properties. A fixed 1.11 wt% GO and different ZnO concentrations were well dispersed in the PLA matrix. Increasing ZnO concentrations tended to increase agglomeration, as evident in rougher surfaces. Agglomeration inhibited water penetration, leading to a significant reduction in water permeability (46.3 %), moisture content (31.6 %) but an improvement in Young's Modulus (52.6 %). The overall and specific migration of GO/ZnO nanocomposites was found to be within acceptable limits. It is inferred that the release of Zn 2+ ions followed pseudo-Fickian behavior with an initial burst effect. AM film with the highest concentration of ZnO (1.25 wt%) exhibited the highest inhibition rate against Escherichia coli (68.0 %), Bacillus cereus (66.5 %), Saccharomyces cerevisiae (70.9 %). Modification surface of chitosan nanoparticles using ZnO nanoparticles is important interest in drug delivery because of the beneficial properties. In this study, we proposed a chitosan/ZnO nanocomposite for the targeted delivery of antibacterial peptide (LL37). Synthesized LL37-loaded chitosan/ZnO nanocomposite (CS/ZnO/LL37-NCs) was based on the ionotropic gelation method. The antibacterial activity of the synthesized platform versus Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) was determined by the microdilution method in 10 mM sodium phosphate buffer. The biofilm formation inhibitory was also evaluated using microtiter plate method. In addition, the ability of CS/ZnO/LL37-NCs on the icaA gene expression level was assessed by the Real-Time PCR. The loading and release investigations confirmed the suitability of CS/ZnO-NCs for LL37 encapsulation. Results showed 6 log 10 CFU/ml reduction in MRSA treated with the CS/ZnO/LL37-NPs. Moreover, CS/ZnO/LL37-NCs showed 81 % biofilm formation inhibition than LL37 alone. Also, icaA gene expression decreased 1-fold in the face of CS/ZnO/LL37-NCs. Having powerful antibacterial and antioxidant effects, zinc oxide and manganese oxide nanomaterials are of great interest. Here we have synthesized manganese oxide decorated zinc oxide (MZO) nanocomposites by co-precipitation method, calcined at different temperatures (300-750 °C) and studied various properties. Here the crystalline structure of the nanocomposite and phase change of the manganese oxide are observed with calcination temperature. The average crystalline size increases and the dislocation density and microstrain decrease with the increase in calcined temperature for the same structural features. The formation of composites was confirmed by XRD pattern and SEM images. EDAX spectra proved the high purity of the composites. Here, different biological properties change with the calcination temperature for different shapes, sizes and structures of the nanocomposite. Nanomaterial calcined at 750 °C provides the best anti-microbial activity against Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Shigella flexneri (gram-negative), Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus megaterium (gram-positive) bacterial strain at 300 µg/mL concentration. Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods and ZnO nanostructures composited with silver (Ag) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) have been synthesized by a simple impregnation-calcination method and have been shown to be suitable for use as antimicrobial agents. The preparation method used for composite materials is very simple, time-effective, and can be used for large-scale production. Several analytical techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron spectroscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Fourier transmission infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), have been used to characterize the prepared ZnO-Ag-MWCNT composite materials. The effects on structural, morphological, and antimicrobial properties of (ZnO) 100-x (Ag) x nanocomposites at various weight ratios (x = 0, 5, 10, 30, and 50 wt%) have been investigated. The antimicrobial properties of ZnO composited with Ag nanoparticles and MWCNTs towards both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria species were studied. The effect of raw MWCNTs and MWCNTs composited with ZnO and Ag on the cell morphology and chemical composition of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli) was studied by SEM and EDS, respectively. It was found that composite materials made of ZnO-Ag-MWCNTs exhibit greater antibacterial activities toward the microorganisms E. coli and S. aureus than ZnO-Ag, which could be beneficial for efficient antimicrobial agents in water and air treatment applications., (© 2023. Antibacterial sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) gels were prepared via immobilizing ZnO and/or Ag/AgCl in situ to inhibit the aggregation of nano-photocatalyst. Epichlorohydrin was used as a crosslinking agent to prepare CMC gel, simultaneously introducing chlorine-containing branch chains as Cl reservoir to deposit AgCl. The composite gels presented pH responsive swelling properties, with the minimum swelling ratio at pH 8 and pH 4 for CMC gels containing Ag/AgCl and ZnO, respectively. Zn 2+ release from the nanocomposite gels was much greater in acidic than in neutral. Photocatalytic degradation constants of methyl orange by the composite gels under sunlight were greater than UV irradiation. Ag/AgCl loaded gel showed a degradation rate of 71.3 % under sunlight for 1 h, with a rate constant approximately 10.2 times higher than ZnO loaded gel. Extract liquids with the gel content below 0.33 mg/mL were noncytotoxicity. The nanocomposite gels presented good bactericidal rate against E. coli and S. aureus under sunlight for 6 h, comparatively to those in dark for 24 h. Bacteriostatic activity of Ag/AgCl loaded gel under sunlight for 6 h was much greater than that in dark for 24 h. Background: CeO 2 NPs and ZnONPs can curb the increase of cholesterol and triglycerides observed in rats with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. It was suggested that CeO 2 NPs could potentially have an insulin-sensitizing effect, specifically on adipose tissue and skeletal muscle. It was reported that ZnONPs combat the increase of insulin resistance observed in obese rats and could be beneficial value in NAFLD. In our previous work, ZnO-NPs manifested valuable anti-obesity effects via lowering body weight gain, oxidative stress, BMI, lipids, and insulin resistance., Methods: In the present study, cerium oxide nanoparticles (A-1) and cerium/zinc nanocomposites (A-2 and A-3) were synthesized by solgel to investigate their role on oxidative stress, adipocyte hormones, and insulin resistance in an obese rat model. X-ray diffraction, HRTEM, SEM, and XPS were carried out to confirm the crystal structure, the particle size, the morphology of the nanoparticles and the oxidation states., Results: The Rietveld refinement has also been executed on A-1 (chi 2 = 1.00; average Bragg = 2.92%; R-factor = 2.45%) and on A-2 (R w = 9.87%, R ex = 9.68%, χ 2 = 1.04, G oF = 1.02). The XPS spectra indicated the presence of Ce in + 4 and + 3 oxidation states and Zn as ZnO and ZnO.OH. Cerium oxide and ZnO crystal sizes lie in the range 40.53-45.01 and 40.53-45.01 nm, respectively. The results indicated that treating obese rats with any of the tested nano compounds (5 mg or 10 mg/Kg) lowered plasma cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, insulin resistance, glucose, and BMI significantly relative to obese group values. On the other hand, HDL increased significantly in obese rats after treatment with either A-2 or A-3 compared to obese rats. The current investigation showed antioxidant activities for A-1, A-2, and A3 as evidenced by the significant increase in GSH level and a significant decrease in MDA., Conclusion: It was found that A-1, A-2, and A-3 have an efficient therapeutic role in treating of obesity-related hyperlipidemia, oxidative stress and insulin resistance. The results of A-2 and A-3 were more pronounced than those of A-1. The use of a combination of nanoparticles as antimicrobial agents can be one strategy to overcome the tendency of microbes to become resistant to antibiotic action. Also, the optimization of nano-photocatalysts to efficiently remove persistent pollutants from wastewater is a hot topic. In this study, two composites ZnO/Au (1% wt.) and ZnO/Ag (1% wt.) were synthesized by simple aqueous solution methods. The structure and morphology of the r nanocomposites were analyzed by structural and optical characterization methods. The formation of AuNPs and AgNPs in these experiments was also discussed. The antimicrobial properties of ZnO, ZnO/Au, and ZnO/Ag nanomaterials were investigated against Gram-negative bacteria ( Pseudomonas aeruginosa ) and Gram-positive bacteria ( Staphylococcus aureus ). The results showed an increase of 80% in the antimicrobial activity of ZnO/Au against Pseudomonas aeruginosa compared with 30% in the case of ZnO/Ag. Similarly, in the case of the S. aureus strain tests, ZnO/Au increased the antimicrobial activity by 55% and ZnO/Ag by 33%. The photocatalytic tests indicated an improvement in the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) under UV irradiation using ZnO/Au and ZnO/Ag nanocomposites compared to bare ZnO. The photocatalytic degradation efficiency of ZnO after 60 min of UV irradiation was ∼83%, while the addition of AuNPs enhanced the degradation rate to ∼95% (ZP2), and AgNP presence enhanced the efficiency to ∼98%. The introduction of noble metallic nanoparticles into the ZnO matrix proved to be an effective strategy to increase their antimicrobial activity against P. aeruginosa and S. aureus , and their photocatalytic activity was evaluated through the degradation of MB dye. Comparing the enhancing effects of Au and Ag, it was found that ZnO/Au was a better antimicrobial agent while ZnO/Ag was a more effective photocatalyst under UV irradiation.

Background: As a consequence of their eco-friendliness, simplicity and non-toxicity, the fabrication of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles using greener chemistry has been a highly attractive research area over the last decade., Aim: In this study focused on the fabrication of silver-Zinc oxide nanocomposite (Ag-ZnO NCs) using Ruta chalepensis leaf extract and evaluating its potential biological activities, against Echinococcus granulosus in an in vitro and in vivo model using BALB/c mice., Methods: In this study, the synthesis of Ag-ZnO NCs was accomplished using local R. chalepensis leaf extracts. The synthesized nanocomposites were identified using UV-Vis, SEM-EDX, XRD, and FTIR. For a short-term assessment of acute toxicity, BALB/c mice were given the prepared NCs orally. Dual sets of mice were also intraperitoneally injected with protoscoleces for secondary echinococcosis infection. Furthermore, a blood compatibility test was carried out on the nanocomposites., Results: The synthesized Ag-ZnO NCs presented a surface plasmon peak at 329 and 422 nm. The XRD, SEM, and EDX confirmed the purity of the Ag-ZnO NCs. The FTIR spectra indicated the formation of Ag-ZnO NCs. Compared to the untreated infected mice, the treated-infected animals displayed an alteration in the appearance of the hepatic hydatid cysts from hyaline to whitish cloudy with a rough surface appearance. Owing to the numerous potential applications of ZnO nanomaterials, the development of ZnO-based nanocomposites has become of great scientific interest in various fields. In this paper, we are reporting the fabrication of a series of ZnO/C nanocomposites through a simple "one-pot" calcination method under three different temperatures, 500 ℃, 600 ℃, and 700 ℃, with samples labeled as ZnO/C-500, -600, and -700, respectively. All samples exhibited adsorption capabilities and photon-activated catalytic and antibacterial properties, with the ZnO/C-700 sample showing superior performance among the three. The carbonaceous material in ZnO/C is key to expanding the optical absorption range and improving the charge separation efficiency of ZnO. The remarkable adsorption property of the ZnO/C-700 sample was demonstrated using Congo red dye, and is credited to its good hydrophilicity. It was also found to exhibit the most notable photocatalysis effect due to its high charge transfer efficiency. The hydrophilic ZnO/C-700 sample was also examined for antibacterial effects both in vitro (against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus) and in vivo (against MSRA-infected rat wound model), and it was observed to exhibit synergistic killing performance under visible-light irradiation. A possible cleaning mechanism is proposed on the basis of our experimental results. The research reported here emphasizes the phytoextract route synthesized ZnO-doped g-C 3 N 4 (GCN) for its photocatalytic activity, which helps to ensure a sustained & healthy environment. The leaf extract solution of Ficus Benjamina L. was used for the synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles, and GCN was prepared via urea using a thermal polymerization process. The flower extract functions as both stabilizers and capping agents during the process of synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles. The synthesized nanocomposites were then calcined at 400 °C and were further characterized with spectroscopy (UV-Vis), diffracted pattern (XRD), and infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Further, the photocatalytic activity of auramine orange (AO) and methylene blue (MB) dye from phytoextract route synthesized pure ZnO NPs, GCN-Pure, and composites with varied millimolar concentrations of ZnO nanoparticles with GCN of the constant amount was checked. After the complete analysis, it was observed that the series that was prepared of ZnO-GCN nanocomposites showed notable enhancement in the degradation pattern of the methylene blue dye. Apparently, 1.5 mmol (mM) ZnO-GCN presented greater degradation patterns for Auramine orange and Methylene blue dye as compared to other nanocomposites that were synthesized. The observed increased photocatalytic activity has a conceivable explanation. The global threat of infectious diseases and antibiotic resistance calls for the development of potent antimicrobial agents integrated with hydrogel for effective control and treatment. Hydrogel is advanced biomaterials compounds. Hydrogel is an advanced biomaterial compound that offers tunable physical and chemical properties, which can be tailored to specific biomedical applications. This study investigates the antibacterial properties of pectin/polyethylene oxide (PEC/PEO)-based poly acrylamide hydrogels containing 5 wt% nano-metal oxides (TiO2, CaO, MgO, and ZnO) synthesized through gamma irradiation at a dose of 30 kGy. This technique allows for sterilization and effectively incorporating the metal oxide nanoparticles within the hydrogel matrix. Characterization of the nanocomposites is performed using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Incorporating metal oxide nanoparticles induces noticeable changes in the FTIR spectra, confirming interactions between the nanoparticles and the hydrogel matrix. The antibacterial activity of the nanocomposites is evaluated against different bacteria, and the results demonstrate significant inhibitory effects, especially for MgO- and ZnO-hydrogel nanocomposites against P. mirabilis, S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, and C. albicans, highlighting their potential as antimicrobial agents. The 5 wt% of MgO, ZnO, TiO 2 and CaO inside PEO/PEC-co-AAm hydrogel nanocomposites exhibited significant inhibitory effects, with a respective optical density at λ = 600 nm (OD 600 ) values of 0.896 nm, 0.986 nm, 1.250 nm, and 1.980 nm compared to the control and hydrogel alone (OD 600 values of 2.88 nm and 2.72 nm, respectively). The antibacterial activity of the (MgO-, ZnO-, TiO 2 -, and CaO-hydrogel) was enhanced, resulting in the inhibition of S. aureus growth by approximately 68.89 %, 65.86 %, 56.25 %, and 31.94 %, respectively. Incorporating nanoparticles into a hydrogel matrix introduces novelty by preventing their aggregation and synergistically enhancing the antibacterial activity. The hydrogel's porous structure and water content facilitate the physical entrapment of bacteria and promote proximity to the metal oxide nanoparticles, resulting in improved interaction and antimicrobial effectiveness. Bordeaux mixture is commonly used in agricultural production due to its certain antibacterial activity. However, it has been observed to promote plant growth at a slow pace. Therefore, it is crucial to explore an effective antibacterial agent that can enhance the antibacterial activity and promote plant growth in commercially available Bordeaux mixture, which can significantly contribute to the development of the agricultural economy. The investigation into inorganic agents with both bacteriostatic and plant-promoting properties has a broad application potential in agriculture. Fe 3 O 4 /ZnO (FZ) composites were synthesized from FeCl 3 , ZnCl 2 , and NaAc in a "one-pot approach" and analyzed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). To investigate the antibacterial activity and mechanism of FZ nanocomposites, Gram-negative Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) were used as model bacteria, and human mammary epithelial cells and model plant mung bean were used as targets to study the effects of FZ on human and plant growth. The results revealed that at 300 µg/mL for 80 min, the antibacterial efficacy of FZ composites was 99.8% against E. coli, which was 20% greater than that of Bordeaux liquid (FC), and 99.9% against S. aureus, which was 28.6% higher than that of FC. The inhibitory mechanism demonstrated that the substance could efficiently damage the bacterial cell wall of a concentration of 300 µg/mL. The IC 50 of the material to human mammary epithelial cells was 49.518 µg/mL, and it also increased mung bean germination, root growth, and chlorophyll content, indicating that the application performance was 1.5 times better than that of FC. The present research work aimed at synthesizing chitosan-coated Zinc oxide nanocomposites (NS-CS/ZnONCs) by a bio-inspired method using an aqueous extract of Nigella sativa (NS) seeds and employing a quality-by-design approach (Box-Behnken design). The biosynthesized NS-CS/ZnONCs were physicochemically characterized and subjected to their in-vitro and in-vivo therapeutic potential. The zeta potential value of -11.2 mV and -12.6 mV indicated the stability of NS-mediated synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles (NS-ZnONPs) and NS-CS/ZnONCs, respectively. The particle size of NS-ZnONPs and NS-CS/ZnONCs were 288.1 nm and 130.2 nm, respectively, with PDI of 0.198 and 0.158. NS-ZnONPs and NS-CS/ZnONCs showed superior radical scavenging abilities, excellent α-amylase, and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities. Also, NS-ZnONPs and NS-CS/ZnONCs demonstrated effective antibacterial activity against selected pathogens. Furthermore, NS-ZnONPs and NS-CS/ZnONCs demonstrated significant (p < 0.001) wound closure with 93.00 ± 0.43 % and 95.67 ± 0.43 % on the 15 th day of treatment at the dose of 14 mg/wound, compared to 93.42 ± 0.58 % of standard. Collagen turnover was represented by hydroxyproline, which was shown to be significantly (p < 0.001) higher in the NS-ZnONPs (60.70 ± 1.44 mg/g of tissue) and NS-CS/ZnONCs (66.10 ± 1.23 mg/g of tissue) treatment groups than in the control group (47.7 ± 0.81 mg/g of tissue). In this work, Pure ZnO nanoparticles and a nanocomposite of PbO: ZnO were prepared by the flame synthesis method, and was analyzed for structural, morphological, optical, elemental, and biocompatibility studies. The structural analysis revealed a hexagonal structure for ZnO and an Orthorhombic structure for PbO: ZnO nanocomposite. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image showed a Nano-Sponge-like surface morphology for PbO: ZnO nanocomposite and energy dispersive spectra (EDS) confirmed the absence of undesired impurities. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) image showed a particle size of ∼50 nm for ZnO and ∼20 nm for PbO: ZnO. Using Tauc plot the optical band gap was found to be 3.2 eV for ZnO and 2.9 eV for PbO: ZnO. Anticancer studies confirm the excellent cytotoxicity activity of both compounds. PbO: ZnO nanocomposite has demonstrated the highest cytotoxicity against the tumorigenic HEK 293 cell line with the lowest IC 50 value of 13.04 μM. In this study, an unpretentious, non-toxic, and cost-effective dissolution casting method was utilized to synthesize a group of anticancer and biologically active hybrid nanocomposite materials containing biopolymer cellulose acetate. Pristine ZnO and Ag (0.01, 0.05, 0.1) /ZnO hybrid nanofillers based on variable Ag NP loadings were prepared via green procedures in the presence of gum arabic (GA). The chemical structures and the morphological features of the designed nanocomposite materials were investigated by PXRD, TEM, SEM, FTIR, TGA, and XPS characterization techniques. The characterization techniques confirmed the formation of CA@Ag (0.01, 0.05, 0.1) /ZnO hybrid nanocomposite materials with an average crystallite size of 15 nm. All investigated materials showed two degradation steps. The thermal stability of the fabricated samples was ranked in the following order: CA/ZnO < CA@Ag (0.01) /ZnO < CA@Ag (0.05) /ZnO = CA@Ag (0.1) /ZnO. Hence, the higher Ag doping level slightly enhanced the thermal stability. The developed nanocomposites were tested against six pathogens and were used as the target material to reduce the number of cancer cells. The presence of Ag NPs had a positive impact on the biological and the anticancer activities of the CA-reinforced Ag/ZnO composite materials. The CA@Ag (0.1) /ZnO hybrid nanocomposite membrane had the highest antimicrobial activity in comparison to the other fabricated materials. Furthermore, the developed CA@Ag (0.1) /ZnO hybrid nanocomposite material effectively induced cell death in breast cancer.

Multidrug-resistant strains (MDRs) are becoming a major concern in a variety of settings, including water treatment and the medical industry. Well-dispersed catalysts such as BiPO 4 , ZnO nanoparticles (NPs), and different ratios of BiPO 4 /ZnO nanocomposites (NCs) were synthesized through hydrothermal treatments. The morphological behavior of the prepared catalysts was characterized using XRD, Raman spectra, PL, UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-DRS), SEM, EDX, and Fe-SEM. MDRs were isolated and identified by the 16s rDNA technique as belonging to B. flexus , B. filamentosus , P. stutzeri , and A. baumannii . The antibacterial activity against MDRs and the photocatalytic methylene blue (MB) dye degradation activity of the synthesized NPs and NCs were studied. The results demonstrate that the prepared BiPO 4 /ZnO-NCs (B1Z4-75:300; NCs-4) caused a maximum growth inhibition of 20 mm against A. baumannii and a minimum growth inhibition of 12 mm against B. filamentosus at 80 μg mL -1 concentrations of the NPs and NCs. Thus, NCs-4 might be a suitable alternative to further explore and develop as an antibacterial agent. The obtained results statistically justified the data ( p ≤ 0.05) via one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). According to the results of the antibacterial and photocatalytic study, we selected the best bimetallic NCs-4 for the photoexcited antibacterial effect of MDRs, including Gram ve + and Gram ve - strains, via UV light irradiation. The flower-like NCs-4 composites showed more effectiveness than those of BiPO 4 , ZnO, and other ratios of NCs. The results encourage the development of flower-like NCs-4 to enhance the photocatalytic antibacterial technique for water purification.

Objective: The integration of nanomaterials and herbal medicine has led to the design of new nanocomposites, which are therapeutically more effective. The purpose of this study was to prepare different zinc oxide (ZnO)-based nanoparticles (NPs) via Mentha longifolia extract based on gauze linen fibre and study its effects on wound healing., Methods: The textural properties, morphology, thermal stability, purity, spectroscopic and phase structure of nanoparticles were investigated. Subsequently, male Wistar rats were subjected to wounds in six different treatment groups: Group I: control; group II: ZnO/W prepared in water (W); group III: ZnO/M synthesised with Mentha longifolia (M) extract; group IV: ZnO/copper(II) oxide (CuO)/M nanocomposite synthesised with M extract; group IV: treated with ZnO/silver (Ag)/M nanocomposite; group V: treated with ZnO/Ag/M nanocomposite; and finally, group VI: treated with ZnO/CuO/Ag/M nanocomposite. In all groups, the wounds were treated for 21 days with prepared samples. Every seven days, after measuring the decreasing rate of the wound size, tissue samples from each group were taken for histopathological analysis. The prepared tissue sections were assessed by haematoxylin and eosin staining for the formation of the epidermis, dermis and muscular tissue, and Masson's Trichrome staining for the formation of collagen fibres., Results: The results showed that the ZnO/CuO/Ag/M nanocomposite was a significantly more effective wound healing material in comparison with other samples (p<0.05)., Conclusion: In this study, the integration of ZnO/CuO/Ag nanocomposites with secondary metabolites of Mentha longifolia gave rise to a superior combination, which could support different phases of wound healing via the regulation of cytokines and growth factors in the course of healing.

Cancer is a debilitating and deadly disease caused by the uncontrolled growth of aberrant cell populations. This disease cannot always be controlled with traditional therapies and medicines. Different medicines are being used for this purpose, however these medicines have their side effects and are harmful to healthy cells. A better way to cure cancer disease is by limiting the agglomeration of cancer cells, minimizing their growth and their population by destroying these harmful cells. This could be achieved by controlling the function of mitochondria and DNA in cancer cells with the use of biocompatible materials with tuneable physical properties. Accordingly, research is ongoing as to the use of nanomaterials and nanotechnology in medicine. Zinc oxide semiconductor nanoparticles have displayed good anticancer behaviour. They have unique properties such as biocompatibility, good stability, and are environmentally friendly. Owing to these characteristics, they are focused on biological applications such as drug delivery and cancer therapy. In the present research work, zinc oxide, titanium dioxide nanoparticles and titanium oxide-zinc oxide nanocomposites were successfully trailed for anti-cancer activity. Pure zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs), titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO 2 NPs) and their nanocomposites (TiO 2 +ZnO NPs) were prepared by the co-precipitation technique. The structural properties were investigated by X-ray diffraction, which confirmed the Wurtzite structure of pure ZnO NPs. The morphology of the NPs was checked by scanning electron microscopy. For incident light having a higher energy band gap of nanomaterials, the electrons are excited to the conduction band and these electrons generate reactive oxygen species (ROS). The efficacy of these nanomaterials was checked by exposing the NPs to the human liver cancer cell HepG2. The MTT assay describes anticancer activity via cell viability. The cell viability of composites was observed to be greater than pure ZnO NPs. Their results showed that the structure of ZnO NPs remains the same with composites of TiO 2 NPs, but the band gap of the composite was intermediate for individual samples. It also showed that the anticancer activity of composites was also less than pure ZnO NPs which is due to the reduction of ROS generation. Aim and Objective: Nanotechnology attempts to solve the problem of antibiotic resistance. Zinc oxide nanoparticles and curcumin have been shown to be antimicrobial agents and promising anticancer agents, both on their own as well as in combination, and this incorporation will likely improve these properties via a possible additive effect., Materials and Methods: In this study, the synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles was done by the distilled extract of Stachys byzantina via the co-precipitation method, which is an economical and eco-friendly green synthesis method. Then, curcumin was loaded to zinc oxide nanoparticles. Antibacterial efficacy of the synthesized nanoparticles was evaluated against five intracellular bacteria; moreover, cytotoxicity was evaluated on breast cancer cells., Results: To confirm the synthesis and characterization of the nanoparticles, some techniques, such as XRD, FTIR, FESEM, and EDX were used. In addition, the antimicrobial activity of biosynthetic zinc oxide/curcumin nanocomposites was evaluated against selected bacterial strains. The uniform spherical nature of the zinc oxide nanoparticles was observed in the FESEM images, with the particle sizes ranging from 20 to 40 nm. The EDX spectrum showed the presence of C, O, and Zn and curcumin uptake on zinc oxide nanoparticles., Conclusion: The zinc oxide/curcumin nanocomposites demonstrated an effective antibacterial effect in the disk diffusion method against five bacterial species. Furthermore, the zinc oxide/ curcumin nanocomposites showed a significant inhibitory effect on the growth of breast cancer cells in the MTT test. In the present study, HAp-ZnO nanorod nanocomposites were successfully prepared using a customized hydrothermal reactor and studied for their compatibility against MG-63 osteoblast-like cells. The crystallinity, morphology, presence of chemical elements, and surface area properties were studied by XRD (X-ray diffraction), FE-SEM (field emission scanning electron microscopy), TEM (transmission electron microscopy), EDS (energy dispersive spectrum) and N 2 adsorption/desorption isotherm techniques, respectively. Further, the mechanical strength and thermal analysis were carried out using the nanoindentation method and thermogravimetric/differential scanning calorimeter (TG/DSC) methods, respectively. Moreover, in vitro biocompatibility studies for the prepared samples were carried out against human osteosarcoma cell lines (MG-63). The crystalline nature of the samples without any impurity phases was notified from XRD results. The formation of composites with the morphology of nanorods and the presence of desired elements in the intended ratio were verified using FE-SEM and EDS spectra, respectively. The TG/DSC results revealed the improved thermal stability of the HAp matrix, promoted by the reinforcement of the ZnO nanorods. The nanoindentation study ensured a significant enhancement in the mechanical stability of the prepared composite material. Finally, it demonstrated that the HAp matrix's mechanical strength and thermal stability were improved by the reinforcement of ZnO, and the cytotoxicity evaluation affirmed the biocompatible nature of the biomimetic hydroxyapatite in the composite.

Because of low moisture uptake, water vapor transmission rate, oxygen transmission rate, swelling capacity and no antibacterial activity of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) film, carboxymethyl starch (CMS) and zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) were incorporated in order to improve its limitations for wound dressing application. The infrared shifted peak of OH stretching and OH bending in HPMC/CMS blended films was detected due to hydrogen bond formation between HPMC and CMS. Scanning electron images of HPMC/CMS blended films exhibited porous structure. In addition, swelling degree, moisture uptake, water vapor transmission rate and oxygen transmission rate of HPMC/CMS blended films with various contents of CMS clearly increased compared to HPMC film. Moreover, HPMC/CMS nanocomposite films loaded with ZnO-NPs showed good antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, revealing their potential for wound dressing application. The present work reports the antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa of a nanocomposite made of zinc oxide nanoparticles dispersed in a poly(acrylamide-co-hydroxyethylmethacrylate) matrix (PAAm-Hema-ZnONPs). The in situ synthesis of ZnONPs inside of the PAAm-Hema crosslinked network is described. Moreover, the physicochemical properties of the PAAm-Hema-ZnONPs nanocomposite are analyzed. The results confirm that the PAAm-Hema hydrogel provides an excellent scaffold to generate ZnONPs. The presence of ZnONPs inside the hydrogel was confirmed by UV-visible (band at 320 nm), by Infrared spectroscopy (peak at 470 cm -1 ), SEM, and TEM images. The presence of NPs in PAAm-Hema diminish the swelling percentage by 70%, and the Young modulus by 33.7%, compared with pristine hydrogel. The 75% of ZnONPs are released from the nanocomposite after 48 h of spontaneous diffusion, allowing the use of the nanocomposite as an antibacterial agent. In vitro , the agar diffusion test presents an inhibition halo against P. aeruginosa bacteria 50% higher than the unloaded hydrogel. Also, the PAAm-Hema-ZnONPs live/dead test shows 54% of dead cells more than the hydrogel. The current paper exhibited a green method for the manufacture of Ag-doped ZnO/CaO nanocomposites (NCPs) by the usage of Caccinia macranthera seed extract, zinc, calcium, and silver salts solution, for the first time. The chemical structure of NCPs was studied by the FT-IR technique. The XRD pattern shows a crystallite structure with an Fm3m group space and particle size of about 23 nm. The FESEM/PSA images displayed that NCPs have uniform distribution with spherical morphology. Also, the cytotoxicity of synthesized NCPs was examined on Huh-7 cells by MTT test and the IC 50 value was 250 ppm. Additionally, the photocatalytic activity of NCPs was investigated to the methylene blue MB dye degradation, which resulted in a removal of about 90% after 100 min. According to the results of the broth microdilution process, which was done to evaluate the antibacterial activity of NCPs towards gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, the MIC values were in the range of 0.97-125 ppm., (© 2022. In the current study, bi-metal oxide hybrid nanocomposites prepared by cerium oxide (CeO 2 ) nanoparticles are included into chitosan-ZnO composites for developing the potential materials of dressing the wound. The wound healing effect of prepared hybrid nanocomposites was evaluated regarding the surface morphology, functional groups, thermal degradation and composite size. The antimicrobial activity of chitosan-ZnO/CeO 2 hybrid nano composites was tested against the pathogens of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The hybrid nanocomposites containing CeO 2 -based chitosan and ZnO nanoparticles were taken for optimum dressing included in the vivo studies on the excisional wounds in wistar rats. After 2 weeks, it is seen that the wound treated with CS-ZnO/CeO 2 hybrid nano composites consists of the significant dressing of nearly 100% compared with control which showed nearly 65% of wound closure. Finally, our reported results gave the proof in supporting the availability of CS-ZnO/CeO 2 hybrid nanocomposites contains the dressing of the wounds for the treatment., (© 2022 The Authors. In the present study, the whole seaweed from Kappaphycus alvarezii (containing carrageenan) was used for preparation of bio-nanocomposite films by blending with metal oxide nanoparticles such as zinc oxide (ZnONPs), cupric oxide (CuONPs) and silicon dioxide (SiO 2 NPs) for multiple applications, and their properties were compared with standard refined κ-Carrageenan (commercial grade). Simultaneously, the antibacterial activity and biodegradation profile of the prepared bio-nanocomposite film were also studied. The incorporation of nanoparticles into the bioplastic film matrices altered the surface morphology, increased the roughness and significantly (p < 0.05) reduced the UV transmittance, water uptake ratio (WUR), moisture content and solubility in both standard carrageenan-based bio-nanocomposite films (CBF) and Kappaphycus- based bio-nanocomposite films (KBF) compared to control. The average roughness (Ra) of KBF increased compared to CBF; however, CBF showed better tensile strength compared to KBF. Both KBF and CBF loaded with nanoparticles exhibited strong antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. However, KBF performed better compared to CBF. Antimicrobial effect of nanoparticles delayed the degradation of the bio-nanocomposite films. In this study, hesperidin (HSP) biological agent, which has strong antioxidant properties, was successfully transferred to ZnO nanoparticles, which were first synthesized by the hydrothermal method. Then, chitosan (CS)/ZnO-HSP nanocomposites were produced by adding different ratios of the ZnO-HSPs to the biodegradable CS biopolymer by hydrothermal method. The resulting materials were characterized using various biophysical strategies, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The mean particle size of ZnO was estimated to be 29 nm from the XRD calculations and SEM measurements. The effect of the ZnO-HSPs on the thermal properties of pure CS was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry techniques, and improvements were noted in the thermal properties of CS. While the T value of CS was 81 °C, this value increased by 13-94 °C with the addition of 6 wt% by weight of the ZnO-HSP. The antibacterial effect of materials was determined by the disc diffusion method. The ZnO-HSPs added to the CS caused the nanocomposites to have a remarkable effect against g value of CS was 81 °C, this value increased by 13-94 °C with the addition of 6 wt% by weight of the ZnO-HSP.
