The heritage of school buildings constructed in the 1970s in Turin is one of the most interesting infrastructures of the public city in terms of extension and capillary diffusion across the urban fabric. The school buildings erected in the expansion areas envisioned by the Popular Affordable Housing Plans, which underwent great demographic changes in the last ten years, can be considered a resource for the present-day city. Through archive documents and the analysis of the relationship between built space and teaching styles, the present article explores this theme by looking at two schools in Turin, both of which were taken, at the time of their construction, as models of the relationship between built space and didactics.

The plan conceived by Álvaro Siza to rebuild the Chiado neighbourhood in Lisbon, following a blaze which wiped out four whole city blocks between Baixa and Bairro Alto in August 1988, was based on a dense system of relationships at different scales. Siza’s proposal worked on redefining the relationship between the volumetric structure of the destroyed buildings, organized within the Marquis of Pombal’s grid plan, and a system of interstitial spaces which rediscovered traces of ancient routes, hidden away by the Cartesian rigour of a reconstruction following the earthquake of 1755. Siza proposed a spatial experience which allows us to amble through the various layers of the place’s memory, where the traces of the fire are intermingled with those left by the earthquake. A web of perceptual and mental connexions which substantiated the idea of a city based on relationships, with the fabric seen as a three-dimensional web of geometries and epochs, supporting the implementation and development of a body which is sometimes complex, sometimes not, as opposed to a flat pattern punctuated by events.

Con qualche settimana di ritardo rispetto alla programmazione, dovuto al grande numero di studiosi partecipanti ed al rigoroso processo di revisione dei contributi, sono usciti due di una serie di numeri tematici scaturiti dalla FAM 2015 International Call For Papers.La Call era suddivisa in tre sezioni tematiche generali (Città, Teoria, Educazione) all’interno delle quali altrettanti curatori (Enrico Prandi, Lamberto Amistadi, Giuseppina Scavuzzo) hanno ideato uno specifico sottotema, (rispettivamente “Il progetto intelligente per la città intelligente / Smart design for a Smart city”, “Dispositio e composizione in architettura” e “Costruire e/è costruirsi. Il complesso rapporto tra architettura e educazione”) articolandolo in un documento di indirizzo, successivamente coordinato la fase della peer review ed infine effettuato la selezione degli articoli accompagnando il numero della rivista (in alcuni casi più di uno) con un saggio introduttivo.La call ha richiamato un centinaio di contributi internazionali dei quali 35 per la linea tematica “Città”, 31 per la linea tematica “Teoria” e 29 per la linea tematica “Educazione”.Dei 35 della tematica “Città”, 10 sono stati accettati dai revisori con giudizio pienamente positivo; 8 sono stati accettati con indicazioni da parte dei revisori di perfezionarne/modificarne alcune parti (che gli autori hanno eseguito); 10 contributi sono stati respinti e gli autori incoraggiati ad una revisione e una riproposta, sulla base di alcune linee migliorative che i revisori hanno predisposto; 5 sono stati respinti e gli autori incoraggiati a presentarli in altre sedi ad esso più confacenti; 2 sono risultati non conformi, deliberatamente out of topics o di qualità non sufficiente.Non molto diverse sono state le suddivisioni delle altre sezioni a conferma della qualità e della preparazione degli studiosi partecipanti che noi consideriamo il pubblico principale della rivista.

Nel progetto di Auguste Perret per Le Havre una forma chiaramente compatta ed evocativa dell’urbanità della città storica si definisce a partire dalle relazioni stabilite con quegli elementi della geografia fisica che costituiscono l’identità del luogo nel quale questa si colloca, e costruisce una significativa relazione con gli spazi aperti e vasti della natura, acquisendo in questo modo quella ‘dimensione’ e quei caratteri propri della città contemporanea. Nei suoi spazi collettivi, che rimandano a una cultura dell’abitare che affonda le proprie radici nella più generale storia della città francese, Le Havre rappresenta sé stessa e traduce nella Place de l’Hôtel de Ville le ripide pendici della falesia, nella Porte Océane l’orizzonte lontano dell’Oceano, nel Front-de-mer Sud l’altra riva della foce della Senna, e fa di questi i veri ‘monumenti’ della città. / In the Auguste Perret’s project for Le Havre a clearly compact form, evocative of urbanity of the historical city, is defined starting from the relations established with those elements of physical geography which constitute the identity of the place where the city is located, and builds a significant relationship with the open and vast spaces of nature, thus acquiring the ‘size’ and those features of the contemporary city. In its public spaces, which refer to a culture of inhabiting that is rooted in the more general history of the French city, Le Havre represents itself and translates in the Place de l'Hôtel de Ville, the steep slopes of the cliff, in the Porte Oceane the distant horizon of the ocean, in the Front-de-mer South the other bank of the mouth of the Seine, and defines these as the real 'monuments' of the city.

Il progetto del nuovo centro di Le Havre è per Auguste Perret e per gli altri architetti coinvolti nell’impresa l’occasione per svolgere una riflessione sull’idea di misura. Lo sforzo dei progettisti è stabilire la giusta misura capace di commisurare e coordinare le parti nell’insieme. Attraversando le scale del progetto questa ricerca riflette la capacità degli architetti di sviluppare un pensiero sincronico che coinvolge piano e architettura simultaneamente. / The project of the new center of Le Havre is, for Auguste Perret and for those architects involved in the feat, an occasion to reflect upon the notion of measure. The designers’ goal is that of establishing the right measure able to commensurate and coordinate the parts to the whole. By crossing the project’s scales, this research reflects the architects’ abilities to develop a synchronic thought encompassing plan and architecture simultaneously.
