SOCIAL responsibility , *BUSINESS models , *SOCIAL responsibility of business , *SOCIAL innovation , *RESPONSIBILITY - Abstract
Purpose: This article aims to analyze the corporate social responsibility and innovation initiatives of five Multinational Companies (MNCs) established in Mexico. Methodological design: The methodology employed involved field visits in 2021 and 2022 to the areas where these MNCs implemented their projects, as well as the compilation of secondary sources. In addition, 21 qualitative interviews were conducted with individuals responsible for these initiatives, stakeholders, and beneficiaries. The data were systematized with Atlas.ti through the creation of codes and indexes to analyze the practices that distinguish corporate social responsibility from social innovation, the scaling processes, and their proximity conditions. Results: Results suggest that three initiatives fall under corporate social responsibility since they are not aligned with the MNCs business model, while one initiative fully falls within the scope of social innovation due to direct alignment; another one exhibits indirect alignment. Research limitations: A limitation of the study is that only 5 MNCs were examined over a two year period, thus lacking a longitudinal approach that would allow corroborating the processes of evolution regarding social responsibility and innovation. Findings: The main finding is that corporate social innovation does not necessarily entail direct alignment with the MNC’s business model; It can also be indirect. Further, a responsibility initiative could evolve into social innovation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MIDDLE-income countries , *POVERTY reduction , *POVERTY , *COUNTRIES - Abstract
The objective of this article is to determine the effects that U.S. multinational companies have on reducing poverty in a group of forty-five upper- and middle-upper-income countries where they operated between 2009 and 2018. The authors also estimate the determining factors in attracting these companies to those countries and whether they have an effect on poverty, using a dynamic panel-data econometric methodology (sys-gmm). They consider the total sample and sub-samples from countries based on their trade status with the United States, finding that the multinationals have a positive influence in the reduction of poverty. In addition, the significant factors in attracting them are at the same time factors that reduce poverty. As a result, they consider multinationals a central mechanism in global poverty dynamics. This work aims at showing the potential that the subject of the consumer protection can have, thematic area that has acquired great importance in cross-border relations, in the topic of transnational corporations and human rights, due to the fact that it can open new research lines. Protecting customers’ rights against fraudulent business practices would sanction those companies that use certificates or sustainability reports in a deceptive manner or creating unfair competition in the marketplace, that affects the competitiveness of the markets. The creation of specific forums for consumers or others affected by such practices is a step, useful, necessary and complementary to existing measures to hold transnational corporations accountable for violations committed in their supply chains, affecting millions of people throughout the world.

Drawing on an interdisciplinary approach combining linguistics and International Business, we suggest that global and local dynamics interact to co-construct specific language practices in an MNC subsidiary situated in a cross-border territory. We show how introducing a foreign language can modify the benefits that these local multilingual practices generate.Employees revert to translanguaging: They combine all their language knowledge, French, German and local vernacular, to make themselves understood. These specific local language practices have an inclusive role that enables low-level employees in the hierarchy to play a linking role between the multinational company subsidiary and its headquarters in Germany., Grace à une approche interdisciplinaire combinant linguistique et management international, nous suggérons qu’au sein de la filiale d’une multinationale située dans un territoire frontalier, les dynamiques globales et locales co-construisent des pratiques linguistiques spécifiques.

- Abstract
In this study, we analyze the main strategies used by multinational companies. In our analysis, we found that companies using a global or transnational strategy usually make vertical foreign direct investments, while those with a multi-domestic strategy make horizontal foreign direct investments. Both structures have strengths and weaknesses for companies and labor unions in terms of confrontation and negotiation. According to the definition of economic globalization, we analyzed the operating margins of both strategies, and we concluded that globalization has greatly favored the interests of multinational corporations. - Abstract
A striking aspect of Chinese FDI is its geographical and sectoral diversification. It is exceptionally wide ranging, if we take into account that the People's Republic of China is a developing country that only recently joined the global economy. Moreover, Chinese multinationals are currently established in both developed countries (the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia) and poor countries (Sudan and Zambia). As a result, this paper seeks to analyze the motives that have led such firms to set up in such diverse countries. At the same time it aims to determine the types of investment made, in order to reveal the patterns of localization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This paper studies the impact that the social responsibility commitments of multinational companies are can have in the settlement of labor disputes that arise in its supply chain through a landmark case that occurred in Peru. There, the en masse dismissal of union members and their representatives by the textiles company Topy Top was resolved through the intervention of two international brands that were clients of that company. This intervention not only enabled the reinstatement of the workers, but also generated a series of instruments designed to develop a mature system of industrial relations. Through an analysis of the agreements and instruments adopted and the way the relationship between the company and the union developed thereafter, we evaluate the role that multinational companies can assume to ensure the compliance of fundamental labor rights. The paper aims to shed some light on how agrochemical multinational companies manage to orient academic research and have it contribute to the promotion of intensive agriculture. The case of Romania is examined based on empirical fieldwork. We refute the main explanation of the commitment of researchers to industry, that they are enrolled only because of the provision of new sources of funding by industry. We highlight the structuring effect of divisions within the scientific field. Romanian agronomy is torn by internal divisions that stem from the combination of trajectories followed under the communist regime and the development of new international academic networks. Researchers from the Academy of agricultural and forestry sciences and those from Universities of agricultural sciences and veterinary medicine hold very different positions. As a consequence, fierce wars of classification break out between them. Agrochemical companies fuel the conflict by giving to both parties the means to bolster their arguments. In return, all Romanian researchers are prone to smear small-scale farming and to legitimize the development of big farms devoted to intensive agriculture.

The right to social security, included in international texts such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, has not obtained general recognition. Its evolution differs in the various existing social security systems. In European countries systems (in general, in the western countries systems), it achieves its maximum subjective and objective extension. But it is not the case in the so-called developing countries. The obligations that both systems impose on companies are different, qualitatively and quantitatively. This diversity,on the one hand benefits multinational companies, but on the other it causes a significant lack of protection for workers whose rights are unknown (life, physical integrity, dignity, salary sufficiency, work ...). This paper first examines the weaknesses of the legal instruments available to us to hold multinational companies liable for the occurrence of contingencies usually protected by social security systems; secondly, the paper analyses the level of commitmentthat can be imposed on them in the development of such systems. In the paper, some solutions to those detected shortcomings are proposed, by updating the institution of legal responsibility, reinterpreting the principle of solidarity on which the aforementioned right to social securityis erectedand by examining the possibilities that these effects offer to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)., Universidad Pablo de Olavide

DaVita S.A.S. This study is based on the absence of a study or evaluation that allows identifying the level in which the organizational culture of an American multinational called "DaVita Inc." has been developed and consolidated within its operation in Colombia, which prevents clarity on the impact of it in the performance of its subsidiary within the Colombian kidney care market, as well as the perception that its patients have regarding the service they receive. In this way, the aim is to identify and evaluate the factors that are part of the organizational culture of the American multinational within DaVita S.A.S, an institution that provides health services to patients with Chronic Kidney Disease, and the influence that this may have on the perception that patients have regarding their services during the year 2019, to subsequently suggest strategies that could help in the consolidation of its organizational culture as a source of competitive advantage of the company in the Colombian kidney care market. Nowadays there is no consensus about the role that companies play in the protection, respect and guarantee of human rights. Since the 1970s, the international regulatory process has moved from voluntary measures to include binding obligations for companies in international human rights treaties. Although some progress has been made, a “regulation dilemma” remains, as regulation is still voluntary, and therefore it faces important obstacles of implementation and commitment on the part of the States and the companies. Given this situation, several multinational companies have resorted to innovative measures that come from the private sector, to force themselves to respect human rights through Global Framework Agreements, which leads us to ask whether these initiatives could contribute, from the private sector, to solving the regulatory problems faced by international law in business and human rights. Throughout this paper we will show the way in which the AMIs contribute to this development. Magíster en Derecho Laboral y de la Seguridad Social Maestría

Prior research establishes that international control by multinational corporations is based on three dimensions: centralisation, formalisation and socialisation. New control mechanisms appeared in the last decade, such as enterprise resource planning, short-term assignments and regional centres. Do these new mechanisms fit the three control dimensions? How do MNCs articulate their control mechanisms, including new ones? Using interviews with 77 managers of 47 French MNCs in 11 Asian countries, this study presents an exploratory factor analysis and clustering. The findings show that French MNCs control their Asian subsidiaries through four dimensions: centralisation of decision making, formalisation of subsidiaries, socialisation and expatriation., Le contrôle à l'international de leurs activités par les multinationales implique trois dimensions: centralisation, formalisation et socialisation.

This article has two main objectives. The first is to determine the development of pay-for-performance systems for workers covered by collective bargaining agreements in the Argentine subsidiaries of multinational companies. The second is to analyze the articulation between pay-for-performance and different variables as country of origin, activity, year of entry into the country, size, union presence, level of affiliation and management policy towards the unions. The choice of these variables arises from the specialized bibliography, which takes them as explanatory elements of performance payments in multinational companies. We seek to observe to what extent, the relationships established in this study are close to traditional hypotheses about the problem. To analyze pay-for-performance, salary payments with additional per-performance and performance evaluation systems are taken as reference. The present study is carried out based on a survey of 83 subsidiaries of multinational companies in Argentina. A bivariate statistical analysis technique is used to account for the type of relationship that exists between the variables and the categories considered in this study., Facultad de Ciencias Económicas

Multinational companies (MNEs) have been relocating their factories within the framework of global profitability strategies for the last three decades. One of the territorial spaces that hosts a strong concentration of MNCs is the northern corridor of the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA). This dynamic goes hand in hand with a series of transformations in the organization of work that crystallized in collective agreements and that allow us to think of a relationship between the two processes. This article aims to characterize the behavior of MNCs in Argentina in recent years in relation to changes in the organization of work. The study starts with the analysis of quantitative data that allow characterizing the behavior of MNCs in aggregate terms, and then working around the meso and micro levels linking the forms of work management in multinationals and how this process took place in the specific case of the automotive industry in the aforementioned northern industrial corridor.
