This study aims to compare the different types of literacy found in Turkish textbooks used in middle schools. The study used a document analysis, which is a qualitative research method. Four Turkish textbooks from grades 5-8, used in the academic year 2023-2024, were analyzed using the content analysis technique with MAXQDA 20.4.1 software. The study found that all middle school Turkish textbooks included four types of literacy (information, visual, graphic, and digital). However, these literacies were not evenly distributed among the grade levels. The study also found that the textbooks did not relate the different types of literacy or language skills to each other. Additionally, the activities to develop these literacies were limited to specific competencies. The study suggests that textbook authors emphasize digital literacy skills in Turkish textbooks at all grade levels by including different competencies. School-based positive characteristics, including gratitude, optimism, enthusiasm for life, and perseverance, form the basis of children's positive experiences at school, and children's positive experiences at school are important for their development. For this reason, the research aims to examine the school experiences of pre-adolescent children in terms of various variables. The research was planned according to the survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, and simple random sampling was used, one of the sampling methods. The research was conducted in the spring semester of the 2022-2023 academic year with 549 children who were in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades and agreed to participate in the study. “Demographic Information Form” and “Positive Experiences at School Scale” were used to collect data. Since the data showed normal distribution, t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), post-hoc t-test, and Tukey HSD were used to analyze the data. According to the results of the research, a significant difference was found between children's experiences at school and their gender, achievement status, relationship status with mother, father, teacher, and classmates, time spent playing digital games, and time spent using social media. In this study, middle school students were encouraged to develop STEM based socio-scientific activities, and as a result, their attitudes and opinions towards STEM were investigated. Mixed nested method was used in this research. Sample of the study consists of 16 seventh grade students, who got educated during the 2017-18 academic year in an eastern province of Turkey. The study lasted 24 weeks during an academic year. Data was collected by using STEM Attitude Scale, STEM Interview Form, Field Notes and Informal Meetings. The research findings indicated that engagement in STEM-based socio-scientific activities significantly enhanced participants' attitudes towards STEM disciplines. Moreover, this active involvement positively impacted their skills and aspirations, fostering a greater inclination toward selecting professions and careers geared towards creating innovations to enhance human life. Additionally, it was concluded that the activities positively affected their knowledge and motivation about STEM and socialization features such as communication, interaction and sharing.

İçerisinde bulunulan bilgi çağında bir ülkenin gelişimi yeni nesillerin eğitimine gösterilen özenle şekillendirilmekte ve Covid-19 Pandemisinin gündelik yaşama getirileri ile yoğrulmaktadır. Bu bağlamda okul kütüphaneleri modern çağın getirilerine göre yenilenmeli, öğrencilere ihtiyaçları olan ortamı sunmaya hazır olmalıdır. Türkiye’de okul kütüphanelerini çağa uydurmak, yeni elektronik bilgi kaynaklarını eğitim sisteminde kullanabilmek adına Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı 2011 yılında Zenginleştirilmiş Kütüphane (Z-kütüphane) Projesi için çalışmalara başlamıştır. Bu çalışmanın konu aldığı proje kapsamında Z-kütüphanelerde eylem alanlarının tanımlanması ve bu bağlamda mekanların işlevsellik açısından ergonomik yeterliliklerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma, ortaokullarda kurulan z-kütüphaneler üzerinde ilerlemiştir. Literatür taraması yapılarak eylem alanları belirlenmiş, daha sonra betimsel yöntem kullanılarak MEB’in yüklenici firmalara örnek olarak verdiği modeller üzerinden mekanların işlevselliği incelenmiştir. Sonuç olarak örnek olarak yol gösterici olması beklenen bu modellerde işlevselliği etkileyen hatalar tespit edilmiştir.

Bu çalışmanın amacı Türkiye ve Kazakistan’da uygulanan ortaokul matematik dersi öğretim programlarının içerikleri yönünden benzerlik ve farklılıklarını ortaya koymaktır. Programlar; haftalık ders saatleri, konu içerikleri, özel amaçları, diğer disiplinlerle ilişkileri, değerler eğitimi ve ölçme değerlendirme yaklaşımlarına göre karşılaştırılmışlardır. Araştırma; 2020-2021 öğretim yılında güncel olan Türkiye Ortaokul Matematik Dersi Öğretim Programı [TOMP] ve Kazakistan Ortaokul Matematik Dersi Öğretim Programları [KOMP] ile sınırlıdır. Çalışma nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman analizi olarak tasarlanmıştır. Araştırmanın temel veri kaynakları olarak güncel Türkiye ve Kazakistan Ortaokul Matematik Öğretim Programları, TIMMS ve PISA raporları kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler içerik analizi yöntemiyle incelenmiştir. Verilerin raporlanmaları sırasında sıklıklarına da yer verilmiştir. İçerik analizi tekniği olarak Forster (1995; akt. Yıldırım ve Şimşek, 2016)’in doküman inceleme aşamaları kullanılmıştır. İncelenen programlar, çalışmanın veri analizinin yapıldığı zaman aralığında etik kurallar çerçevesinde raporlaştırılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre, KOMP’ta 5. ve 6. sınıflarda matematik dersi haftada 6 saat verilirken 7. sınıftan itibaren cebir, geometri ve bilişim olarak üçe ayrılmaktadır. TOMP’ta ise 5’ten 8’e tüm ortaokul seviyesinde “Matematik” dersi adı altında haftada 5 saat verilmektedir. Haftalık ders saati olarak Kazakistan ortaokul matematik dersleri 34 haftada toplam 204 ders saati yapılırken Türkiye’de 36 haftada 180 ders saati yapılmaktadır. Her iki ülkede de temel geometrik kavramlar, üçgenler, dörtgenler, çember ve daire, koordinat düzlemi ve alan ortak olarak yer almaktadır. Türkiye’de ölçme konusu (uzunluk ve zaman ölçme, sıvı ölçme) ayrıntılı olarak ele alınırken Kazakistan’da alan ölçme olarak daha kısa yer almaktadır. Türkiye’de Kazakistan’dan farklı olarak cisimlerin farklı yönlerden görünüşleri ve dönüşüm geometrisi yer almaktadır. İki ülkenin ortaokul matematik dersi öğretim programlarının konu içerikleri, özel amaçları diğer disiplinlerle ilişkileri ve değerleri eğitimi yönlerinden benzerlik gösterdikleri, haftalık ders saatlerinde farklılık olduğu TOMP’ta ölçme değerlendirme yaklaşımının net olarak ortaya konduğu fakat KOMP’ta net olarak ortaya konmadığı görülmüştür.

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the effect of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach on students' mathematics achievement in middle school mathematics lessons. For this purpose, a 6-week program was created in which the RME approach was employed. In order to determine the effectiveness of this program, an experimental group using the RME approach and a control group using traditional teaching method were randomly determined. In order to reveal the effect of the program prepared with RME on mathematics achievement, a "mathematics achievement test" was used at the beginning and end of the experiment. The findings showed that the RME approach has a positive effect (effect size 0.6721) on academic achievement compared to the traditional teaching method. Araştırma 2016-2017 eğitim-öğretim yılının ikinci döneminde, Siirt il merkezindeki bir ortaokulda öğrenim gören 148 öğrenci ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu çalışmada, nitel araştırma desenlerinden “olgubilim deseni” kullanılmıştır. Örneklemin belirlenmesinde seçkisiz olmayan örnekleme yöntemlerinden ölçüt örnekleme kullanılmıştır. Ölçüt olarak Türk, Arap, Kürt kökenli öğrencilerin öğrenim gördüğü bir okul seçilmiştir. Verilerin toplanmasında öğrencilerinin “millet” kavramına ilişkin algılarını belirlemek amacıyla, öğrencilere “Millet…a/e benzer. Çünkü …” ifadesinin yer aldığı bir form kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın amacı, Güneydoğu Anadolu Bölgesindeki farklı etnik grupların bulunduğu bir okulda öğrencilerin genel olarak millet kavramına ilişkin metaforik algılarının belirlenerek incelenmesidir. Öğrencilerden 118 metafor elde edilerek, metaforlar 8 kavramsal kategoriye ayrılmıştır. En yüksek frekansa sahip olan metaforlar, vatan (f=16) ve aile (f=14) olarak görülmektedir. Öğrencilerin “millet” kavramına çoğunluk olarak “vatan” kavramını cevap olarak vermesi olumlu olarak değerlendirilmektedir. Kategorilere bakıldığında öğrenciler tarafından en fazla birlik ve manevi birlik; en az ise kültür ve bağımsızlığın değerlendirildiği; milleti oluşturan ülkü unsuruna ise hemen hemen hiç değinilmediği görülmektedir. Farklı etnik unsura sahip olan öğrencilerin millet kavramına ilişkin yorumlamada kavram eksiklikleri olmasına rağmen, öğrencilerin millet kavramını etnik ayrım yapmaksızın oluşturdukları görülmektedir. 148(%100) öğrenciden 118(% 80)’i millet kavramı ile ilişkili olan ilgili forma yanıt vermiş olmasına rağmen, öğrencilerin 30’u yani %20’si ise forma hiç cevap vermemiştir. Yüzde 20 oranı yüksek bir oran olup, millet kavramını bu oranlar dâhilinde değerlendirilecek olunursa, çalışma grubundaki öğrencilerin millet kavramına yönelik kazanım yeterliliklerinin düşük olduğu söylenebilir.

This study was carried out so as to reveal the reasons for the use of supplementary books that secondary school Social Sciences teachers and Science teachers make their students purchase in addition to the course books. Thus, a semi-structured interview form developed by the researchers was employed. First, a semi-structured interview form consisting of five open-ended questions was prepared. These questions were submitted to the standpoints of two experts, and as a result of the information provided by the experts, the number of the questions was decreased to four and corrections were made regarding the scope of the other questions. The teachers were asked whether they use supplementary books, on what they pay attention to while buying supplementary books, and how the supplementary books help both the students and the teacher. A total of 12 branch teachers, 6 Social Sciences teachers and 6 Science teachers working in the district schools in Ağrı, Turkey, voluntarily participated in the study. Basic qualitative research method was used in the study. Descriptive, systematic and data analysis methods were used for data analysis. Some of the results obtained from the findings of the study are as follows: as a result of the research, both Social Sciences teachers and Science teachers state that they use supplementary resource books. It was concluded that the majority of teachers make their students purchase supplementary books for such reasons as visual richness, excessive application, providing permanent learning with repetition of the subject, emphasis on the subject matter in narration, and the use of understandable language. It was also concluded that when Social Sciences teachers and Science teachers make their students buy supplementary books, they pay attention to the suitability of these books to the program of MoNE (Ministry of National Education), the presence of exercise questions similar to the ones in the exams of MoNE, the number of the activities and variety of the question types, the variety of information, the language of narration and the quality of the questions. Bu çalışmanın amacı 1940 ve 1948 yılları arasında Talim ve Terbiye Kurulu Başkanlığı tarafından onaylanan ve okutulan psikolog Ali Haydar Taner’in (1883-1956) ismini taşıyan Ortaokul İçin Tarih II ders kitabını geniş bir bakış açısı içinde ele almaktır. Bu çalışmada üç alt probleme cevap verilecektir;1- Ali Haydar Taner, Ortaokul İçin Tarih II kitabına “yazan” olarak neden ve nasıl geçmiş olabilir? 2- Cumhuriyetin ilk yıllarından 1940’a kadar Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı’nın okul ders kitaplarının basılmasına yönelik uygulamaları nasıldı?3- Ali Haydar Taner imzalı Ortaokul için Tarih II’nin içeriğinin bir önceki baskılarla (1937 baskısı) benzer ve farklı yönleri nelerdir? 1934’te okutulmaya başlanan Ortamektep I-II-III ders kitaplarına yönelik pedagojik eleştiriler, 1937 sonrası oluşturulan komisyonlarda çözülmeye çalışıldı. 1940’dan sonra Ortaokul Tarih II kitabın üzerinde Ali Haydar Taner ismi görülmektedir. 1943’te toplanan II. Maarif Şurası ile bu iyileştirme çabalarının daha geniş katılımla meşru bir zemine oturması sağlandı. Türkiye’de geçmişte tarih ders programlarındaki köklü değişimler, tarih ders kitaplarının tekâmül etmesini engellemiştir.

In the process of acquisition of writing skills, writing autonomy is the self-learning responsibility of the student and the student's ability to conduct self-learning in this context. The aim of the present study was to determine the writing autonomy levels of the middle school 7th grade students and the differences between these levels based on various variables. The study group included 527 seventh grade students attending secondary schools in Efeler district in Aydın province, Turkey during the 2018-2019 academic year. The study was conducted with the general survey model. The study data were collected with the "Writing Autonomy Scale". The study findings demonstrated that the general average writing autonomy score of the students was 46.059 ± 9,370 (Min = 22; Max = 66). While there were no significant differences between the writing autonomy scores of the students based on parental education level and attending preschool education; however, there were significant differences based on the number of books read the previous year, final Turkish course grade and gender variables.
