The Authors report a perspective study about 30 consecutive patients operated on for laparoscopic cholecistectomy to investigate the causes of some postoperative symptoms: the scapular ache, the persistent ache to the right side and the slight fever. Besides report the results of abdomen radiography and abdomen echography. The persistence of a moderate pneumoperitoneum not seem responsible for scapular ache; the absence of fluid under hepatic stuff not adduce good reason for right side ache and slight fever.

A double blind randomized comparative clinical study vs placebo clinical study has been carried out in order to assess the antiinflammatory and analgesic activity of ketoprofen lysine salt in oropharyngeal solution, in pain-inflammatory pathologies of odontostomatological nature.One hundred and twenty patients, aged between 18 and 82 years, were recruited for the purpose and assigned at random to treatment with ketoprofen lysine salt or placebo for a period of 7 days.Treatment with ketoprofen lysine salt demonstrated a significantly more marked (p0.001) anti-inflammatory effect than placebo as regards all variables considered: burning, sensation pain, oedema and erythema, and by the 3rd day of treatment led to significant remission of the symptomatology. Tolerability of ketoprofen lysine salt was excellent.

A simple method of sonographic (US) evaluation of penile and bulbous urethra is reported. Twenty-three dysuric patients were examined. They were divided into 2 groups according to their pathology. The US patterns of normal urethra were evaluated in 10 patients (first group) with no obstructive lesions. Urethral and periurethral structures were examined in 13 patients (second group) with urethral obstructive pathology. All patients underwent conventional cystourethrography. The diagnostic parameters considered were urethral gauge and thickness, echogenicity of the urethral wall, and Cowper's glands. US evaluation of obstructive lesions provided the same findings as conventional radiological techniques. Moreover, US allowed the evaluation of both thickness and echogenicity of the urethral wall, and of normal/injured Cowper's glands.

The vasodilator effect obtained by the topic use of a nitroglycerin compound (TNG) has been angiographically tested on 11 patients affected by distal arteriopathy of the legs. All patients presented arteriosclerotic vascular lesions; two of them also suffered from diabetic angiopathy. Arteriography of the legs has proved to be a very important tool in the evaluation of the patients' response to the administration of the drug. An hour after 80 mg of TNG had been applied to the skin of the examined leg, arteriography showed a marked dilation, especially of the muscular arteries and the undamaged tracts of the arteries of the legs. Angiographic evaluation of the functional blood supply thus obtained provides prognostic information and helps in the choice of the subsequent therapy. Furthermore, the clinical efficacy of prolonged treatment with this drug has been tested in 10 out of the 11 patients. They all responded with an immediate and persistent hemodynamic improvement, evaluated according to Fontaine's classification.

Objective: The aim of the present work was to measure the pain threshold in hypertensive patients with a new auto-algometry method. Design and Setting: Auto-algometry consists of asking the subjects to push their fingers against a fixed round-tip needle until they feel a pain sensation. An electronic force transducer permits the measurement of the force applied by the subjects and storage of the data on a personal computer. Eight tests are performed twice on each subject on the tip and back of four fingers. For each test, the maximal applied force (grams) is defined as pain threshold. The overall discomfort during the entire procedure is reported by the subjects on a 0 (no discomfort) to 10 (intolerable pain) scale. Patients and Interventions: A group of hypertensive patients (n = 22) and a group of normotensive subjects (n = 22) underwent the auto-algometry examination. Results: The pain threshold was higher in hypertensive patients compared with normotensive subjects. All discomfort scores referred by the subjects fell within the 4–6 range. Conclusion: The data obtained from this study indicate that the auto-algometer as described here can detect hypoalgesia associated with hypertension.
