In this work, CuAl9Mn2 + W100% composite was obtained using electron-beam additive technology. The macro and microstructure of the obtained composite material was investigated. It has been shown that tungsten does not dissolve in the α-Cu solid solution and is formed in the form of agglomerates. It is shown that hardness values increase from the top of the sample to the substrate with characteristic peaks of tungsten agglomerates. The mechanical properties of the printed CuAl9Mn2 alloy and CuAl9Mn2 + W100% composite material were compared. The anisotropy of mechanical properties has been revealed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Metal matrix composite materials of Cu-Fe system were produced by alternating the electron-beam additive manufacturing and friction stir processing. The formation of a composite from wire filaments of C11000 copper and AISI 321 steel was studied. In a material obtained by an additive method after friction stir processing in a mixing zone the complex structure with alternation of layers with different sizes of steel particles in a copper matrix was formed. During the work, the formation of a number of defects in the micro- and macrostructure of the stir zone and the thermomechanically affected zone after processing was revealed. Macrostructure defects are mainly represented by large discontinuities in the lower part of the stir zone. The paper is devoted to the study of the structural-phase state of aluminum alloys obtained by friction stir processing in various regimes. The conducted investigations with the use of transmission electron microscopy show that the microstructure of the mixing zone is represented by solid solution grains and secondary phase precipitates. By the results of identification of typical microdiffraction patterns, it was found that the grains of the α-Al solid solution have an axis of the zone of the ˂110˃ type, and this indicates the texturing of the material of the mixing zone. The presence of two nanostructured strengthening intermetallic phases, AlMgCu and Al2MgCu (S phase), in the mixing zone is determined. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Data on structure formation in austenitic steel samples by electron beam wire-feed manufacturing have been obtained. Structural characterization demonstrates a complex and heterogeneous character of the material structure. In all cases, regardless of the manufacturing parameters, the material of the samples is represented by a dendritic structure. The structure of the samples shows a strong dependence of the metal microstructure on the 3D-printing parameters; e.g., the thickness of the metal layers changes depending on the parameters of the printing process.
