Research has been conducted on the type II methane-oxidizing bacteria isolated from different environments. The development of the better databases of 16S rRNA, pmoA, mmoX and mxaF sequences derived from these bacteria is described.

Research has been conducted on Escherichia coli messenger and rRNA poly(A) tails. The cloning and sequencing of cDNA clones of mRNA and rRNA genes carried out in verifying the poly(A) tail presence in total RNA samples are described.

Research has been conducted on the genus Vibrio's environmental and collection strains. The nucleotide sequence of the amplified 16S rDNAs obtained from the both strains has demonstrated differences among 16S rDNAs from the same strain.

Research has been conducted on the Nitrosospira-like ammonia-oxidizing bacteria. The phylogenetic composition of this bacteria from different Southern Ocean samples has been analyzed and the results indicate that a Nitrosospira-like 16S rRNA gene sequence found in all the samples which yield PCR products can be found in Arctic Ocean samples demonstrating transpolar distribution.

Research has been conducted on the intracellular rickettsia-like structures found in the glossiphoniid leech tissues. The results of the 16S rRNA gene phylogenic analysis indicate that these structures constitute a clade which is different from the arthropod-associated Rickettsia species.

Research has been conducted on the Pseudomonas stutzeri 16S rRNA gene monitoring. The sensitive and specific PCR-based method of gene monitoring has been developed to search P. stutzeri DNA in environmental samples and the details are reported.

Research has been conducted on the bacterioplankton assemblages from the Arctic Ocean. The analysis of the phylogenetic composition of these assemblages has been carried out via the sequencing of the cloned 16S rRNA gene fragments and the results indicate that most of the cloned sequences are related to the uncultured environmental sequences.

Research has been conducted on the Pasteurella multocida. The genetic diversity of this aetiological agent of fowl cholera has been investigated and the results indicate that this diversity is related to the clonal nature of P. multocida resulting in many divergent lines.

Research has been conducted on the methanotrophic bacteria. The methanotrophic diversity associated with the roots of the submerged rice plants and the retrieval of the pmoA encoding the alpha subunit of the particulate methane monooxygenase have been investigated via different cultivation-independent techniques.

Research has been conducted on the Aspergillus Section Flavi strains. The identification of the Aspergillus Section Flavi species and the genetic diversity within the species have been described.

Research has been conducted on the gram-negative bacillus isolated from fruit-flavored bottled water. The role of the molecular identification schemes based on direct rRNA gene sequencing and PCR amplification in identification of spoilage organisms is discussed.
