Рад електронских уређаја и система, као што су мобилна телефонија, телевизија, рачунари, сателитски комуникациони системи, радарски системи и многи други, базира се на електромагнетским феноменима који су предмет изучавања теорије електромагнетских поља. За разумевање начина рада ових система и за њихово пројектовање потребно је извршити електромагнетску (ЕМ) анализу. У већини случајева ЕМ анализа се спроводи применом неке од метода нумеричке електромагнетике. Једна од најчешће коришћених нумеричких метода за ЕМ анализу је метода момената примењена на решавање површинских интегралних једначина. Применом ове методе струје расподељене по граничним површима домена апроксимирају се сумом познатих функција базиса помножених непознатим коефицијентима, а површинске интегралне једначине трансформишу се у систем линеарних једначина чијим се решавањем одређују ти непознати коефицијенти. Ова метода се унапређује већ више десетина година, а актуелни технички и технолошки трендови постављају сталне захтеве за повећањем тачности и ефикасности ЕМ моделовања, за анализом све већих и комплекснијих структура, које укључују све ситније детаље, као и за проширењем опсега учестаности, идући од веома ниских до веома високих учестаности. Повећање тачности, ефикасности и домена примене ове методе могу се остварити 1) имплементацијом комплекснијих елемената за прецизно моделовање геометрије проблема, 2) рачунањем елемената системске матрице са великом тачношћу, и 3) коришћењем софистицираних функција базиса за апроксимацију струје. Циљ ове дисертације је развој нове методе, базиране на методи момената, за анализу аксијално симетричних металних структура коришћењем егзактног језгра интегралне једначине електричног поља и применом све три горе поменуте технике. За прецизно геометријско моделовање проблема коришћени су зарубљени конуси, а струја је иницијално апроксимирана модификованим функцијама базиса вишег реда. Импедансни интеграли, који представљају елементе системске матрице су, уз помоћ симетрије, редуковани са четвороструких на троструке интеграле, при чему прве две интеграције одговарају интегралима потенцијала. Свака од три интеграције у оквиру импедансних интеграла показује сингуларно или квази-сингуларно понашање у одређеним ситуацијама. У том случају се ови интеграли неефикасно рачунају директном применом Гаус-Лежандрове интеграционе формуле, па су за њихово рачунање предложене нове техникe поништавања сингуларитета. Техника поништавања сингуларитета подразумева примену погодно одабране смене којом се интегранд трансформише у споро променљиву функцију па се интеграл затим може ефикасно израчунати нумерички, применом Гаус-Лежандрове интеграционе формуле. Након одабира оптималних смена осмишљене су једноставне формуле за одређивање потребног броја тачака интеграције за остваривање жељене тачности. Рачунање импедансних интеграла са великом тачношћу (до машинске прецизности), као што је показано на низу нумеричких примера, омогућава: а) велику тачност анализe (релативна средња квадратна грешка се спушта до 10–6), б) стабилност резултата за електрички мале структурe (до 10–6 λ, где је λ таласна дужина ЕМ таласа у вакууму), в) ефикасну анализу електрички великих структура (до 100λ), и г) добијање веома тачних и стабилних резултата у широком опсегу вредности (до 100 dB). The operation of electronic devices and systems, such as mobile phone systems, television, computers, satellite communication systems, radar systems and many more, is based on electromagnetic phenomena, the subject of studies of electromagnetic field theory. In order to understand the functionality of these systems and to complete the design, it is necessary to perform electromagnetic (EM) analysis. In most of the cases EM analysis is carried out by applying one of the methods of computational electromagnetics. One of the most frequently used numerical methods for EM analysis is the method of moments applied to solving surface integral equations. By the use of this method, the currents distributed along boundary surfaces of various domains are approximated as the sum of known basis functions multiplied by unknown coefficients, and surface integral equations are transformed into a system of linear equations. The unknown coefficients are determined by solving this system. The moment method has been growing and improving for more than several decades. Current technological and technical trends are continuously expanding the demands for more accurate and efficient EM modeling to include complex and electrically large structures with very small details. Furthermore, required frequency range is widening, spanning from very low up to very high frequencies. The efficiency, precision, and the application area of the method can be increased 1) by implementing more complex elements for precise geometrical modeling of the problem, 2) by evaluating the system matrix elements more accurately, and 3) by the use of sophisticated basis functions for the current approximation. The goal of this dissertation is to develop a new method, based on moment methods, for the analysis of axially symmetric metallic structures utilizing exact kernel of electric field integral equation and all three above mentioned techniques. Right-truncated cones are used for precise geometrical modeling of the structures, and the currents are initially approximated by modified higher order basis functions. Impedance integrals, representing the system matrix elements, are reduced from fourfold to threefold integrals, in which the first two integrations correspond to potential integrals. All three integrations within impedance integrals can potentially be singular or quasi-singular in some situations. In that case, the integrals cannot be efficiently evaluated by directly applying the Gauss-Legendre integration formula. Therefore, new singularity cancellation techniques are proposed in the dissertation for the efficient evaluation of the singular or quasi-singular integrals. By the use of a convenient change of variables, the singularity cancellation technique transforms the integrand into a slowly varying function, after which the integral can be efficiently evaluated numerically using the Gauss-Legendre integration formula. After selecting the optimum variable transforms, simple formulas are determined for estimating required number of integration points needed for prescribed accuracy. As shown on a number of numerical examples, accurate evaluation of the impedance integrals (up to machine precision) enables: a) high precision analysis (relative root-mean square error is brought down to 10–6), b) obtaining stable results for electrically small structures (with dimensions as small as 10–6λ), c) efficient analysis of electrically big structures (with dimensions up to 100λ), and d) obtaining accurate and stable results with a dynamic range of up to 100 dB. In the next part of the dissertation, the possibility of increasing maximally applicable expansion order for current distribution is examined by implementing maximally orthogonalized basis functions (max-ortho). Namely, with increasing the expansion order of modified basis functions the stability of system matrix worsens, so that for orders higher then n = 10 in single, and n = 20 in double precision, the results diverge rapidly. In contrast, the implementation of max-ortho bases provides stable system matrix regardless of the expansion order, but only if the system matrix elements are evaluated with sufficient precision. It is shown that the system matrix due to max-ortho bases can be evaluated with relative root mean square error lower than 10–11 for expansion orders up to 128, if the matrix elements are expressed as a linear combination of impedance integrals due to Legendre polynomials and their derivatives. Particularly, Legendre polynomials and their derivatives within impedance integrals should be calculated by the use of the well known recurrent formulas. In this way, ultra high expansion orders (tested up to order 128) can be applied, and the number of unknowns is reduced approximately 10 times with respect to modified basis functions.
