This chapter describes the self-assembly process for the mesoporous carbons (MC) prepared using soft and hard templates. Design and modification of MC mainly depends on the templates which are prepared via the self-assembly of inorganic and organic molecules. These self-assembly processes play an important role in controlling the structure, morphology, and textural parameters of the suitable templates to be used in the preparation of MC with controlled structure, pore diameter, and morphology. In this article, self-assembly process of specific molecules towards the development of MC has been emphasized with selected examples.
