Objective The aim is to contribute to the literature by carrying out retrospective analysis of the cases who underwent amniocentesis in our clinic and sharing our relevant experience. Methods A total of 632 cases who underwent amniocentesis in the second trimester were included in our study. The cases’ demographic characteristics, weeks of gestation, amniocentesis indications, procedure-related complications, culture success, cytogenetic results, and the results and indications of the cases found to have chromosomal anomalies were evaluated. Chromosomal anomalies, their complications, culture failure rates and most common amniocentesis indications were reported. The results of the cases with chromosomal anomalies were presented as numerical and structural anomalies. Results The mean age of all cases included in our study was 33.7±6.8 years, and their mean weeks of gestation were 17.5±1.0 weeks. The rate of the cases found to have chromosomal anomaly by amniocentesis was 22.4%, the culture failure rate was 2.1%, and complication rate was 0.5%. The most common amniocentesis indications and the amniocentesis indications in cases found to have chromosomal anomaly were the same, and they were as following respectively: combined test being high risk, triple screening test being high risk and presence of anomaly in the ultrasonography (USG). The rate of detecting chromosomal anomaly was higher in the cases who had multiple indications and underwent amniocentesis. Conclusion Although USG and serum screening tests are used commonly for prenatal diagnosis, invasive tests such as amniocentesis are needed for the final diagnosis in patients with high risk. We concluded that amniocentesis is more important for prenatal diagnosis in cases who are under risk of having multiple chromosomal anomalies in the screening tests.

Introduction: This study aims to evaluate the pre- and postoperative outcomes of myomas operated in a tertiary clinic. Method: We retrospectively evaluated data from a total of 378 cases operated for myomas between January 2014 and December 2018 in the Dicle University Medical Faculty Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic. Results: There were 169 cases of abdominal myomectomy (44.7%), 156 cases of total abdominal hysterectomy (41.3%), 15 cases of laparoscopic myomectomy (4%), 13 cases of total laparoscopic hysterectomy (3.4%), 12 cases of myomectomy during cesarean delivery (3.2%), 9 cases of hysteroscopic myomectomy (2.4%), and 4 cases of vaginal myomectomy (1.1%). Pathology results revealed 341 cases of leiomyoma (88.2%), 32 cases of concomitant leiomyoma and adenomyosis (8.4%), and 13 cases of STUMP (3.3%). There were 5 cases of intraoperative bowel injury, 1 case of bladder injury, and 1 case of postoperative wound infection. Conclusion: Myomas can be surgically treated with satisfactory outcomes and low complication rates. The preferred surgical treatment will majorly depend on the patient's fertility expectations.

Objectives: To retrospectively and prospectively investigate the pregnancy outcomes after hysteroscopy (H/S) for septum resection in patients detected to have a uterine septum after presenting with a history of recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL), diagnosis of secondary infertility or primary infertility. Methods: This study included 62 patients with infertility or a history of RPL who underwent hysteroscopic uterine septum resection. Patients who had uterine anomalies other than a uterine septum, such as submucous myoma, endometrial polyp were excluded. Those discharged home with a live infant after a uterine septum operation were compared based on certain variables, those who succeeded and those who failed were categorized into group 1 and group 2, respectively. The two groups were compared with regard to the total number of deliveries before and after the operation, total number of abortions, preterm and term deliveries, delivery methods, control hysterosalpingographies (HSG) and whether they were reoperated. Results: In our study, 25 (40%) patients were primary infertile, 37 (60%) had secondary infertility or a history of RPL. Hysteroscopic septum resection was performed under general anesthesia in 61 and spinal anesthesia in 1 of these patients. Of the patients who were postoperatively discharged home with a live infant, 8 (26.7%) were determined to be primary infertile and 22 (73.3%) to have secondary infertility or a history of RPL. The rate of discharge with a live infant was determined as 76.9% among patients who conceived. The success rate of Group 1 patients, who were secondary infertile or had history of RPL, was significantly higher compared to patients who were primary infertile. Conclusions: Hysteroscopic uterine septum resection is a method with an easy application and high effectiveness. The success of the operation is particularly higher in patients who have a history of RPL or are secondary infertile compared with patients who are primary infertile.
