Background and purpose: Current scientometric indicators have some strengths and weaknesses. This study was conducted with the aim of developing a new scientometric index for the comprehensive scientific evaluation of researchers, the so-called multifold index. Materials and methods: The study was conducted with 96 researchers from Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences with at least two articles in Scopus and at least one citation to the articles. A checklist was used that included variables, such as the scientific age of each individual, the square root of the total number of each article, the sum of references to top articles, the H-index, etc. Some statistical analyzes such as factor analysis, KMO test and Bartlett’s test for sphericity, correlation matrix and SPSS software version 22 were used. Test functional characteristics and area under the rock curve were used, and sensitization was performed, extracting 99% predictive power and diagnostic power (0.7). Results: When calculating the multifold index, the H-index has the largest weight of 0.238, and the numerical value it provides is appropriate and measures all aspects of a person's scientific activity. This index is different for researchers who have the same H-index. Conclusion: The Multifold Index leads to a qualitative assessment and takes into account all aspects of a person's scientific activity. It can be used for assessments, predictions about the scientific status of researchers, educational and research groups and for creating a comprehensive scientific map of the country.

Background and purpose: There are some strengths and weaknesses in current indicators of scientometrics. This study aimed to present a new index of scientometrics in evaluating scientific output of Iranian medical journals. Materials and methods: This exploratory analytical study was done with a scientometric approach in scientific output of 108 medical science journals indexed in Scopus and 63 scientific output of the universities of medical sciences in Iran, 2018. Data were collected using a checklist that included scientometric factors. The inclusion criteria was to have at least two articles indexed in the Scopus database and at least one citation. The index to be calculated was the ratio of the number of articles with at least one citation to zero according to the Odds index. Results: Findings showed that the mean h-index of journals was 14.06 and the mean O-index was 2.29. In universities, the highest mean values of O-index, h-index, and h5-index were 2.724, 85.8, and 45.7, respectively belonging to type I universities. There were significant relationships in O, h, and h5 indices between the three types of universities (P= 0.000). Conclusion: According to this study, the O-index was correlated with the h-index and could be very useful in evaluating the scientific output of universities and journals alongside other indices.

Background and purpose: The status and role of each country in scientific production in specific fields may indicate the potential and its performance in promoting and improving that particular issue. Cancer is a major health problem in Iran, so this study aimed to investigate the role of scientific production of Iran about cancer. Materials and methods: We conducted a scientometric study using Iranian articles about cancer based on the Scopus database and Web of Science. The electronic search was done according to subject and affiliation for articles published until 2015. Data was then extracted using the Analyze Search Result. Results: According to Scopus at the end of 2015, Iran had 2865 articles about cancer placing the country in 29th position. The H-Index score for the country was 52 which placed Iran in 45th position in the world. The impact factor of articles published by Iranian researchers on cancer in Eastern Mediterranean region was 4 and the number of papers placed Iran in third place. By the end of 2015, a total of 1868 articles were indexed by Web of Science of which 27.5% were published in Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention. Conclusion: The number of Iranian articles in the field of cancer is increasing in international databases, yet the number of articles in high-quality journals is low. This requires appropriate planning that could improve Iran’s position on scientific productions about cancer.

Background and purpose: Publication of scientific journals in every country is recognized as one of the main ways for publishing and development of science and knowledge. The aim of this research was to compare the differences in non-citations of Iranian journals in Persian and English on health indexed in Scopus during 2011 and 2015. Materials and methods: In a descriptive-analytical study, we investigated 85 Iranian journals in Persian and English on health indexed in Scopus database. The list of Journals was obtained from the Ministry of Health and all journals were searched in Scopus database. Data analysis was done in SPSS V.20 applying Mann-Whitney, t-test, and Pearson correlations. P values less than 0.05 were considered significant. Results: There was a weak positive correlation between Iranian journals in Persian and percentage of articles with at least one citation (r=0.4) which was found to be not significant (P=0.123). But in English language journals published by Iranian institutions and bodies a weak negative correlation (r=-0.388) was seen between the number of articles and percentage of articles with at least one citation (P=0.000). Conclusion: According to SJR and SNIP, Iranian Journals in English indexed in Scopus have a better status compared with that of journals in Persian. Also, the number of articles with no citation published in English is low.
