Objective: The current study aimed to investigate the prevalence of adult separation anxiety disorder and specific phobia in the general population, along with identifying the factors associated with these two disorders. Material and Method: The study was carried out in the Selçuklu district, encompassing 28 of the 34 family health centers selected through a simple random sampling method. The study sample included 1,218 individuals over 18, chosen using a systematic sampling approach by skipping one resident from each neighborhood covered by the family health unit. After collecting the sociodemographic data, face-to-face diagnostic interviews were performed using the Structured Clinical Interviews for Separation Anxiety Symptoms (SCI-SAS) for ASAD and the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 (SCID-5) for specific phobia assessment. Results: The study revealed that the lifetime prevalence of ASAD was 5.9%, with a point prevalence of 1.5%, while the lifetime prevalence of specific phobia was 11.3%. The application rates for the treatment of both disorders were very low and clinicians demonstrated limited recognition of ASAD. ASAD was correlated with female gender, low income, childhood traumatic experiences, migraine presence, and family history of serious illness. On the other hand, specific phobia was associated with female gender and family history of psychiatric disease. Conclusion: Despite the high prevalence of both disorders, the alarming rates of clinical recognition and treatment underscore the need to develop health policies and awareness programs aimed at promoting early diagnosis and treatment.

Aim: Among the hand functions, grasping is an important function for the continuity of daily living activities. The assessment of grip strength is crucial for identifying athletic prowess, neuromuscular illnesses, assessing potential side effects following hand surgery, and treatment plans. It was aimed to examine whether bioimpedance analysis (BIA) and upper extremity anthropometric measurements are effected grip strength in young adults. Material and Methods: The study was conducted on 110 young adults, 55 males and 55 females, aged 18-25 years. Individuals with a history of trauma, musculoskeletal problems, and cardiac, respiratory, metabolic, or systemic diseases were not included in the study. Non-flexible tape measure, Harpenden anthropometric set, digital caliper, hand dynamometer, and skinfold caliper were used for anthropometric measurements. Body fat percentage and lean body mass, muscle mass, basal metabolic rate, and total body fluid parameters were investigated by bioelectrical impedance measurement. Three measurements were taken to reduce the error rate, and the average of these measurements was considered. Results: Excluding arm circumference, forearm length, and wrist circumference from anthropometric measurements, and mineral from BIA parameters; anthropometric measurements and BIA results were found to be statistically significantly correlated with grip strength. Conclusion: Upper extremity anthropometric measurements and BIA were associated with grip strength and varied according to gender. Significant correlations were found between grip strength with most of the anthropometric parameters and BIA.

Aim: Free radical formation increases due to hyperglycemia occurring in the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus (DM), and as a result, oxidative stress occurs. Hyperglycemia-mediated oxidative stress plays an important role in the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy. The antihyperglycemic, antioxidative, anti-apoptotic, and anti-inflammatory effects of ellagic acid (EA) have been demonstrated by many studies. In this study, it was aimed to demonstrate the antifibrotic effect of EA on TGFβ1/Smad signaling in rats with streptozotocin induced diabetic nephropathy. Material and Methods: A total of 24 male Sprague Dawley rats, weighing 200-250 g, were used in this study. The animals were divided into four groups as control, EA, DM, and DM+EA. The kidney tissues were used for histological and immunohistochemical procedures. While the collagen density in kidney tissues was revealed by Masson's trichrome staining, the expression levels of fibrotic markers TGFβ1, p-Smad3, and αSMA were determined by the immunocytochemical method. Results: It was shown that the collagen density in the renal tissue of the DM group increased significantly in the intertubular area, while the collagen density in the EA-treated DM group was statistically significantly decreased. When TGFβ1, p-Smad3, and αSMA immunopositivity in kidney tissue sections of all groups were evaluated, the highest staining intensity was in the DM group, while the intensity of staining was close to the control group in the treatment group. It was observed that αSMA, TGFβ1, and p-Smad3 protein expression were down-regulated with EA treatment. Conclusion: EA reduced fibrosis in diabetic nephropathy by returning profibrotic parameters to normal levels.

OBJECTIVE: This study was designed to show that allergic reactions with gamma cyclodextrin-related caused by sugammadex are not anaphylaxis but an anaphylactoid reaction. METHODS: In this retrospective study, 83 morbidly obese patients, who underwent elective laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy operation, were included. Patient data were obtained from patient files and electronic health records system (SARUS). The patients were divided into two groups as sugammadex (Group S) and neostigmine (Group N). Patient data were recorded, including patient preoperative demographics (age, gender) and preoperative and postoperative (12 hours later) levels of total IgE and ECP (Eosinophil cationic protein) levels. Objective: This study was designed to evaluate the impacts of high preoperative HbA1c levels and ABO and Rhesus D antigen (RhD) blood types on the risk of postoperative cardiac morbidity in morbidly obese patients who underwent sleeve gastrectomy. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, 364 morbidly obese patients who underwent elective laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy operation were included. Data regarding patients' demographics, preoperative HbA1c levels (low: 4–6%, high: >6%), ABO/RhD blood types, cardiac complaints within the first postoperative week and serum cardiac troponin levels (ng/mL) in patients with postoperative cardiac complaints were recorded. Results: The findings showed that HbA1c levels were >6.0% in 38.2% of the patients, blood type A (45.9%) was the most prevalent blood type, and postoperative cardiac symptoms were evident in 16.5% of patients. Patients with high and low HbA1c levels were similar concerning ABO/RhD blood type or rate of postoperative cardiac complaints. In patients with postoperative cardiac complaints, a significant positive weak correlation was noted with high troponin levels and high preoperative HbA1c levels (r=0.215, p=0.022). Conclusion: In conclusion, these findings of a retrospective cohort of morbidly obese patients who underwent sleeve gastrectomy revealed a significant positive weak correlation between high preoperative HbA1c levels and cardiac troponin levels in patients with postoperative cardiac complaints, while ABO/RhD blood type was not associated with preoperative HbA1c levels or the likelihood of postoperative cardiac complaints.

However, in this procedure, postoperative pain is often observed. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided Pecs II block in the management of pain after CVPC placement.Methods: One hundred and eighty-seven patients who underwent CVPC implantation between January 2017 and August 2018 were included in the study. Patients who underwent Pecs II block under ultrasound guidance were called as the Pecs group, and those who underwent local anesthesia (LA) were referred as the LA group. All procedural parameters were analyzed, including demographic characteristics of patients, visual analogue scores (VAS) at 2nd and 24th hours, and postoperative opioid, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) consumption.Results: The postoperative 2nd hour VAS scores were similar in both groups and were lower than the 24th hour VAS scores. VAS scores at the 24th hour in the Pecs group were significantly lower than the LA group (P = 0.001). While the number of fentanyl rescue doses administered in PACU was similar, the total NSAID consumption in the first 24 hours was higher in the LA group than in the Pecs group.Conclusion: In CVPC placement, ultrasound-guided Pecs II block is a more reliable, easily applicable and longer-acting approach than LA infiltration for postoperative analgesia.Keywords: analgesia, pain, postoperative, vascular access devices, anesthesia, local, nerve block, thoracic nerves

The electromagnetic field is increasing in our environment and these exposures cause concern. The aim of our study is to investigate the effects of magnetic fields generated by the hairdryer devices used by women working in the same job on their serum biochemistry, whole blood, and hormone values. The sixteen women working continuously in hairdressing salons were included in the study. Two groups of studies were designed: control (n:8, mean age: 22.25±6.04) and experimental group (n:8, mean age:23,62±6.67). The biochemical (median values of alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, triglycerides, and very-low-density lipoprotein were found high) and hormonal results of the experimental group were compared with the biochemical (cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, and very high-density lipoprotein had high median values) and hormonal results of the control group and no significant difference was found (p>0.05). When the whole blood parameters were examined, the white blood cells and mean platelet volume results of the experimental group were significant (p0.05). It is evident from the results that occupational exposure to magnetic fields constantly leads to changes in the biochemistry, hormone and whole blood parameters of the female.

Background and objective: Prevalence of atrial fibrillation is higher in hemodialysis patients as compared to the general population. Atrial electromechanical delay is known as a significant predictor of atrial fibrillation. In this study, we aimed to reveal the relationship between atrial electromechanical delay and attacks of atrial fibrillation. Materials and methods: The study included 77 hemodialysis patients over 18 years of age giving written consent to participate in the study. The patients were divided into two groups based on the results of 24-h Holter Electrocardiogram (Holter ECG) as the ones having attacks of atrial fibrillation and the others without any attack of atrial fibrillation. Standard echocardiographic measurements were taken from all patients. Additionally, atrial conduction times were measured by tissue Doppler technique and atrial electromechanical delays were calculated. Results: Intra- and interatrial electromechanical delay were found as significantly lengthened in the group of patients with attacks of atrial fibrillation (p = 0.03 and p < 0.001 respectively). The optimal cut-off time for interatrial electromechanical delay to predict atrial fibrillation was >21 ms with a specificity of 79.3% and a sensitivity of 73.7% (area under the curve 0.820; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.716–0.898). In the multivariate logistic regression model, interatrial electromechanical delay (odds ratio = 1.230; 95% CI, 1.104–1.370; p < 0.001) and hypertension (odds ratio = 4.525; 95% CI, 1.042–19.651; p = 0.044) were also associated with atrial fibrillation after adjustment for variables found to be statistically significant in univariate analysis and correlated with interatrial electromechanical delay. Conclusions: Interatrial electromechanical delay is independently related with the attacks of atrial fibrillation detected on Holter ECG records in hemodialysis patients.
