The purpose of the present study is to report 2 cases of odontogenic carcinoma with dentinoid, a rare low-grade odontogenic carcinoma associated with facial deformity and bone loss, and to investigate the presence of pathogenic mutations in these samples. By using a next-generation sequencing approach, we sequenced a panel of 50 oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes commonly mutated in human cancer. Microscopic features of both cases revealed solid areas of malignant odontogenic tumor with a large amount of dentinoid material. We identified pathogenic mutations in the genes CTNNB1 and APC, both of which are part of the Wnt-signaling pathway. Consistent with Wnt-signaling activation, both tumors showed strong β-catenin accumulation in the cytoplasm and in the nuclei. The molecular profile of odontogenic carcinoma with dentinoid may help in its diagnosis, as well as in the identification of potential molecular targets for therapy in the future.

The Sweet’s syndrome, is an inflammatory skin disorder characterized by extensive infiltration of neutrophils in the dermis with extension to the subcutis, known as acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis. It may occur as a paraneoplastic syndrome. To our knowledge, there are currently few reports about transformation of a myelodysplastic syndrome to acute myeloid leukemia and concurrent necrotizing Sweet syndrome in the literature. Herein we describe an unusual case in a young patient with these characteristics that evolved to a fatal outcome.

Circumscribed storiform collagenoma is a rare benign tumor. It appears as an isolated skin lesion or as part of the clinical spectrum of Cowden syndrome. The pathogenesis is still controversial. Although its clinical expression is heterogeneous, it has a characteristic histological pattern. We describe a case of a solitary circumscribed storiform collagenoma not associated with Cowden syndrome.

Objective To describe the epidemiologic and histopathologic features of surgical specimens from patients with malignant salivary gland tumors. Study Design In this retrospective study, we evaluated and reclassified 34 cases of a general hospital, between January 2005 and January 2018. Results In this period, malignant salivary gland tumors were more common among females (56%) and parotid gland (67.6%) as the most affected site, followed by minor salivary glands (23.5%). The mean age was 43 years. Adenoid cystic carcinoma was the most common malignant salivary gland tumor (29%), followed by mucoepidermoid carcinoma (24%). There were 3 cases reclassified as secretory carcinoma and 1 case as adenocarcinoma not otherwise specified, according to the World Health Organization Classification of Head and Neck Tumors of 2017. Conclusions This study is relevant to obtain epidemiologic data of malignant salivary gland tumors due to few reports from our country.

CLINICAL PRESENTATION A 13-year-old boy was referred to the Oral Diagnosis Clinic (Orocentro—Piracicaba Dental School, University of Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil) for evaluation of an asymptomatic oral swelling that had been present for 7 years. According to his father, the swelling had suddenly grown recently. The clinical examination showed a well delimited bilobulated nodular lesion on the anterior region of the right-sided hard palate that measured about 2.0 1.5 cm and was nontender and firm on palpation (Figure 1). A small ulcer was noticed on the anterior lobe, probably due to contact with the lower teeth. There was no report of local trauma, the patient presented no parafunctional habits, and the medical history was noncontributory. In addition, there was no mobility of the teeth, and no radiographic changes were seen.

Objective The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy and reproducibility of the cytologic diagnosis of salivary gland tumors (SGTs) using fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC). The study aimed to determine diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity and to evaluate the extent of interobserver agreement. Study Design We retrospectively evaluated SGTs from the files of the Division of Pathology at the Clinics Hospital of Sao Paulo and Piracicaba Dental School between 2000 and 2006. Results We performed cytohistologic correlation in 182 SGTs. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and diagnostic accuracy were 94%, 100%, 100%, 100%, and 99%, respectively. The interobserver cytologic reproducibility showed significant statistical concordance ( P Conclusions FNAC is an effective tool for performing a reliable preoperative diagnosis in SGTs and shows high diagnostic accuracy and consistent interobserver reproducibility. Further FNAC studies analyzing large samples of malignant SGTs and reactive salivary lesions are needed to confirm their accuracy.

Objetivo: Realizar una evaluación comparativa de tres tipos de sondas de lavado vesical con el fin de determinar cuál de ellas permitía un mayor flujo de entrada el líquido de lavado y de salida del líquido de la vejiga. Métodos: Se compararon tres tipos de sonda de tres vías, de un calibre 22 F, cuya principal diferencia fue el material de que estaban fabricadas: látex, silicona o polivinilo. Resultados: La sonda de polivinilo mostró una diferencia significativa tanto en el flujo de entrada como de salida del líquido de infusión respecto a los otros dos tipos de sonda (p= 0,000, ANOVA con test post hoc de Sheffe). La sonda de látex mostró además una disminución significativa del flujo de salida al inflar el balón autorretentivo. Conclusiones: La sonda de polivinilo, debido a la rigidez del material con que está fabricada, es la que un mayor flujo de lavado vesical permite.
