Aim: To describe the scientific editorial quality of practice theses defended at the Faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy of Bamako (Mali), during the period 2016-2018., Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted on practice theses in health science, defended between 2016 and 2018, and the electronic version of which was available at the libraries of the Faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bamako. An adjusted STROBE grid was used to measure a scientific editorial conformity score for 18 iso-weighted items of the IMRaD structure (i.e. a total of 18 points). In this way, the scientific editorial quality of practice theses in health sciences was judged to be highly conform (14-18 points), fairly conform (9-13 points), poorly conform (5-8 points), or not conform (<5 points). An ordinal logistic regression model was used to identify determining factors independently associated with the scientific editorial quality of the health sciences practice thesis, with a significance level of 5%., Results: A total of 534 practice theses in health sciences were included in this study, whose scientific editorial quality was judged to be highly or fairly conform (12.2%), poorly conform (43.1%) or not conform (44.8%). These standards scientific editorial conformity, which was higher in a "Medicine" thesis than in a "Pharmacy" thesis (ORa=2.45; IC95% [1.62-3.27], p<=0.05), was attributed to the supervisor's membership of a research structure (ORa=2.88; IC95% [1.6-3.2]; p<0.05)., Conclusion: The research methodology profile of the practice health sciences thesis supervisor and the thesis section are associated with scientific editorial standard with the IMRaD.

Medical care must be supported by research that meets reliable, valid, ethical, and reproducible principles. However, an essential fraction of research carried out in the medical field is inadequately reported due to omitting relevant information when it is published. This reduces their impact and the possibility that other researchers can realize critical appraisal, thereby compromising their application within medical practice. Because of this, guidelines have been developed to reduce this problem; their purpose is to increase research reports' methodological quality, transparency, validity, and reliability. Despite their importance, incorporating these guidelines in various journals and the knowledge and use by a significant part of the medical community is limited. As part of the strategy for developing its editorial performance Tunis'Med'2030, based on productivity, quality and visibility, the journal «La Tunisie Medicale» (ISSN: 0041-4131, IeSSN: 2724-7031), focused on the identification of Tunisian champions of scientific medical writing, to invite them to submit editorials, describing the prospects for the development of their specialties, and motivating young researchers from low-income countries to excellence academic. The identification of these leaders in scientific medical research was based on the new edition of the Research.com platform (https://research.com/scientists-rankings/medicine) of December 2021. After contacting these national champions of scientific writing, the journal «La Tunisie Medicale» hopes on the one hand to improve its scientific citation and its international notoriety and on the other hand to provide a framework for partnership between national immigrant skills and young researchers residing in the country, under the teaches the social responsibility of scientific research.

Ruishou Ben'i Zenkushuu (, The Nine Tenths of the the Differnetiation of Similar Syndromes ) was compiled by Doctor Yuehu, a Japanese monk, in 1452. This book had important implications for the spread to Japan of Chinese medical ideas and theories by Li Dongyuan and Zhu Danxi. This paper analyzed the citation of Chinese medical books in Ruishou Ben'i Zenkushuu and found that the name of Zhu Danxi appeared frequently in this book.Based on the data from the sources of Danxi's medical ideas and theories cited in the book, this paper illuminates the close connection with the medicine ideas and theories of Danxi, and clarifies the story that Yuehu once studied Chinese medicine from Yu Tuan. Research on the sources of the ideas in Ruishou Ben'i Zenkushuu is helpful tracing back historically the spread of the ideas and theories of Danxi in Japan.

Effective communication in medical writing is essential for conveying accurate and understandable information to healthcare professionals and patients. English language errors in medical literature can lead to misunderstandings, misinterpretations, and potentially harmful consequences. This systematic literature review aims to identify, analyze, and categorize common English language errors encountered in medical writing. This study identifies gaps in existing literature on language errors in medical writing and reveals areas that need further investigation or where more comprehensive guidelines are required. This study addresses six questions: (1) What types of language errors are discussed in the current literature? (2) What types of medical writing are involved in the current literature? (3) Which countries or areas are involved in the current literature? (4) What are the research methods used in the studies? (5) What tools are used in the studies? (6) What are the limitations of these studies? To answer these questions, this review searched nine databases and one platform, ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Fulltext, ProQuest Ebook Central (e-Books), Scopus, Web of Science, Wiley Online Library (e-Journals & e-Books) (PPV), Science Direct, Cambridge Core e-Books, Oxford Press Scholarship Online (e-Books), Google Scholar, and Carian Bestari@UKM / Discovery Service@UKM. Finally, ten studies were selected, including articles and books. The findings provide insights into types of language errors, types of medical writing, countries or areas of medical writing, research methods, tools, and limitations of these ten studies, highlighting the importance of linguistic accuracy and proficiency in medical writing. Nizamuddin Ahmad Gilani’s “Medical Treatise” is a concise Persianlanguage treatise on medical sciences. Nizamuddin Ahmad was a prominent physician during the Safavid era, with a substantial body of work across various scientific domains, particularly medicine. His scholarly contributions underscore Gilani’s expertise in numerous scientific disciplines, with a particular emphasis on medical knowledge. The “Medical Treatise” comprises an introduction and fifteen chapters. In the introduction, the author explores the significance of medical science based on verses from the Holy Qur’an, hadiths attributed to the Holy Prophet and Imams, as well as the wisdom of sages, equating it with religious and Sharia studies. Subsequently, in the fifteen chapters, the text delves into the description of diseases, their causes and treatments, and the insights of esteemed sages like Galen, Hippocrates, and Luqman. Scientific manuscripts are the basis for the transmission of scientific data among physicians in all fields of medicine. To teach young oncologists the skills needed to author a paper, we decided to emulate how experienced clinicians perform this task. The first step is to create a spreadsheet with all the clinical data gathered and submit it to a statistical analysis using a statistical software package. The most important results are presented in the graphs and tables. The results should be explained in a logical and understandable manner. Writing the “Materials and Methods” section follows, with all the technical information that any other researcher may need to reproduce elsewhere the study in question. A critical-thinking stage, in which a review of the pertinent literature is conducted with the use of a reference management software, should provide all the knowledge and questions to write the “Introduction” and “Discussion” sections. The “Abstract” and “Title” are the final sections to be created. Following these steps, the author can correct the first draft of the manuscript for submission to a specific journal. Choosing the right journal and answering the reviewers' comments are also important steps in this process. Even if a young oncologist does not embark on an academic career, learning how to write a scientific manuscript is believed to be the best way to teach them how to read such manuscripts during their lifelong continuous self-education.

ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence (AI) software developed by OpenAI, is a powerful language model. ChatGPT is expected to perform a variety of tasks in the field of medical writing and publishing, including writing drafts, extracting article abstracts, and embellishing language. At the same time, ChatGPT has technical shortcomings and ethical challenges that have raised concerns. This review summarizes the issues faced by ChatGPT in the field of medical writing and publishing, and provides a reference for the development of standards and systems for the use of AI products such as ChatGPT.

Archibald Pitcairne's medical writings are inspired by Newton's Principia mathematica, as the Scottish physician assumed Newtonian physics as a model for scientific inquiry that should be applied to other branches of natural philosophy, including physiology and pathology. The ideal of a comprehensive mathematical science was very appealing to late seventeenth-century intellectuals, including physicians. This essay focuses on how Pitcairne tried to implement these ideas. In particular, I argue that Pitcairne's medical thinking is based on three philosophical assumptions: first, a methodological assumption, for which medical knowledge should be sought in the form of a deductive system; second, an epistemological assumption, that is, that our knowledge of physiological processes is sound only when we reduce them to a set of mathematical laws; and, third, an ontological assumption that identifies blood as the substance on which animal life most directly depends. I also suggest that such ideas should be studied against the backdrop of Pitcairne's general mindset, including his personal sympathy for political conservativism. I further argue that his insistence on the reduction of natural processes to mathematical relations and his search for the universal order of nature also connect to his religious and political ideals. This article looks at the translation and circulation of yogis' learning in Persian medical and alchemical texts produced in South Asia. I suggest that looking at the non-religious environment allows for a more accurate understanding of the overall circulation of yogic knowledge and techniques in the Muslim society of South Asia. Furthermore, I suggest that the assimilation of yogis' learning in Persian sources concerned not only Yoga but also other types of knowledge associated with yogis. Muslim physicians' interest in yogis' knowledge focused on one specific aspect: rasaśāstra "alchemy" and the mastery over the production of mercurial and metallic drugs. The technical and pragmatic focus of Persian medico-alchemical writings contributed to give views of yogis beyond the exotic and foreignizing category of the wonders of India. Medical writings helped to develop views of yogis as a socio-economic group involved in the transmission of a specific body of knowledge. This was an important shift away from the perspective of the 'ajā'ib al-hind "wonders of India" as well as from the ways in which yogis were perceived in Sufi texts. New perspectives on yogis emerged when Persian-speaking scholars and readers in India needed more pragmatic representations of local groups, such as the physicians who were in the process of appropriating alchemical notions that were closely associated with the yogis. This article seeks to understand why so many medical writings produced in late imperial China have perished and what has prevented others from disappearing. To do so, it focuses on the life of medical writings produced in the southern fringes of the Qing empire. The aim, starting from an analytical framework limited in time and space, is to open up a more general discussion on the history of the medical book in late imperial China. To retrace this history, this article starts from the very act of writing a medical text and then examines the course of this writing's life, through its printing, and reading. The first part, an examination of a wide sample of medical texts produced in the region, highlights the social diversity of their authors as well as the plurality of objectives that these texts intend to achieve. The second part reconstructs the different steps that a manuscript must go through to be printed. This process, which requires the intervention of influential figures to correct and praise the text, and to finance its printing, is long and explains why most of the manuscripts did not survive, but it has another consequence. As the original text passes through the hands of many people, it collects comments and additions. The third part, which focuses on printed and handwritten annotations in the margins, underlines how printing a medical manuscript is a dynamic process which offers the possibility of integrating allographic elements and contributes to the very making of the text. Analysis of the handwritten annotations left by some readers reveals, in turn, the ability of readers to intervene in the life of medical books, after they have been printed and, in so doing, to update and enrich medical knowledge and practices. Between the years 1650 and 1800, Amsterdam became the center of Yiddish printing. Vernacular medical writings were among the variety of Yiddish books published in Amsterdam. The Yiddish remedies book Seyfer Yerum Moyshe , published in 1679, was written by Moyshe Rofe mi-Kalish. In this article I intend to examine the paratexts of this book and present as a case study the doctor's recommendations to confront the plague. He explains his remedies are credible and have been tried by many doctors. His book would not only save its readers from having to call a doctor and pay him a lot of money, but also give them remedies they can prepare in their homes or find in their pharmacies. Whether rich or poor, everyone should have access to remedies. Writing is an art. Medical writing is an amalgamation of art with science. Not all medical writers have the inherent capability to pen down their work. For some it is a source of contentment, happiness, and authorization whereas it’s a hard nut to crack for others, requiring additional efforts to accomplish this uphill task. Future medical writers confront many challenges before they embark upon this worthwhile endeavour. Some may not realize its importance; others simply enter into the world of bewilderment as to how to start. Yet others are well versed with the subject but just cannot pen it down and the majority cannot squeeze their time in because of their hectic daily routines. In order to counter these challenges, one has to overcome the conundrum of medical writing. Why to Write? Medical writing is an essential feature of evidence-based medicine and is mandatory for progress in the medical profession. Apart from religious, international, national, institutional, and professional gains, the honor, regard, and respect a medical writer earns in the scientific world is priceless. High research scores, h-indices, portfolios, citations, and references quoted by other researchers and writers elevate you to unfathomable heights. Your work creates an opportunity for others to get benefit from the work done and the medical knowledge grows in a stepladder fashion. Ultimately the main aim i.e. Benefit humanity also fulfilling the divine requirement for a Muslim medical writer. This qualm of writers' hesitancy can have devastating effects on the professional career of a writer. Age limit constraints, fear of losing an opportunity to appear in examinations on time, poor prospects for gaining senior posts and promotions, etc. can be detrimental to the psychosocial well-being too. This initiates the unfortunate vicious circle causing further delay or even abandonment of work. This state of affairs could be demoralizing for a doctor who is otherwise humane, hardworking, conscientious, and has been courteous to patients. Even his research could be an extraordinary work but he is unable to put it down in black and white. The medical writers have to trounce over this perplexing situation by getting acquainted with the essence of writing. The significance of Medical writing cannot be undermined as it forms the basis of development, evolution, and progress in the medical field. It is the only preservable way of transferring knowledge to others. The importance of gaining knowledge and preserving it is very well depicted and stressed in Islam. The first Divine word “IQRA” and the second revelation related to “THE PEN” is ample evidence. Numerous Hadiths stress gaining knowledge and preserving it. I quote one Hadith “TAQYID Al ILM”, {define, preserve and record knowledge by ‘writing it down}’.1

Reviews on the role, value, effectiveness and desirable content of written medicine information (WMI) mostly include studies from high-income countries. We reviewed studies from Africa and Asia published between January 2004 and December 2019 to determine (1) the effect of WMI on knowledge and behaviour and (2) whether patients value WMI and their preferences for WMI. We included 16 intervention studies involving almost 3500 participants and 27 surveys of patients/public totalling over 11,000 people. Both the quality of the intervention studies and the reporting quality varied. Surveys were mostly localised, many with inadequate sampling strategies, and hence, were poorly representative of wider populations. However, most included a high proportion of participants with low educational levels. Most of the intervention studies reported significant improvements in knowledge and/or adherence after provision of WMI. Many utilised specially developed WMI in local languages, enhanced by pictograms. Provision of verbal information in addition to WMI showed variable impact. The proportion of people who read WMI, used as an indicator of its value, was reported in 15 surveys, with an overall figure of 74%. The most desirable aspects of WMI reported in 12 studies were indication, side effects, dose/instructions for use, contraindications, precautions and interactions. Nine studies reported local language was desirable. The studies suggest that WMI can improve both knowledge and adherence and is highly valued by people in many countries across Africa and Asia. Mechanisms should be considered by regulatory authorities and manufacturers to facilitate the provision of leaflets in local languages using simple terminology, perhaps enhanced by pictograms. In the late seventeenth century, the head of the Salihiyya Sufi lodge in the far south of Morocco, Abu al-ʿAbbas Sidi Ahmad al-Salihi al-Dar'i (d. 1144/1731), wrote a poem of over a thousand lines on medicine, a long composition that went on to enjoy great popularity. The Worthy Gift of Medicine (al-Hadiya al-maqbula fi l-tibb) drew on a wide range of sources, including the Arab-Galenic tradition and Prophetic medicine, and in the fashion of the time, al-Salihi wrote a long commentary to fully explain it. Al-Salihi's medical writings thus provide a productive entry point into the nature of medical writing and practice in early modern Morocco, as well as the historiographical narratives that have structured the ways in which they have been studied. In today's world, when there is a rapid surge of biomedical publications, maintaining research integrity of articles is of prime importance. It is expected that the submitted work is genuine of submitting authors'. Ease in the availability of these digitally published biomedical papers and pressure to publish for academic and professional advancement had resulted in numerous novice scientists and students falling into unethical practice of plagiarizing others' work to get the job done quickly. Plagiarists are continuously in search of finding new and easy ways to plagiarize someone else's work, currently seen as different forms of plagiarism. Hence, this narrative review intends to help young and upcoming researchers to understand plagiarism, its type, the reason for plagiarists getting involved in that, and possible ways to detect and prevent it.

Aim: The number of scientific papers published from India each year is low. We tried to determine how often Indian surgeons publish in biomedical journals, challenges preventing them from publishing more often, their awareness of the international guidelines that acknowledge professional medical writing as an ethical service, and their willingness to hire medical writers for their publications. Materials and Methods: A convenience sample of 100 of the surgeons attending a national conference were explained about the survey and asked to complete a survey questionnaire. All results were expressed as absolute frequencies and percentages. Results: Of the 81 who responded, 43 (53%) had never published. Only 31/81 (38%) had published in the last 5 years. The challenges preventing more frequent publication were reported to be the lack of support for carrying out statistical analyses (58%), lack of time (41%), lack of sufficient data (38%), and lack of support for literature search (37%). Twenty-two (27%) surgeons were aware that they could hire a professional medical writer (PMW), 26 (32%) knew that the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors allowed PMWs to contribute to articles published in the biomedical journals, 75 (93%) were interested in hiring medical writers or to consider it in the future. Only 6 (7.4%) showed no such interest. Conclusion: There was poor awareness and great interest in hiring PMWs. It might be beneficial to increase the awareness of clinicians about the scientific expertise and communication skills of PMWs and how they can add value to biomedical publications.

Medical writing is an art which requires a fine blend of new scientific information and rhetorical skills. An article in a reputed journal ensures recognition and career advancement, and there has been a rush among doctors to publish their research work. Several indexed “predatory” journals have mushroomed and are accepting articles without a blinded peer review. The standard impact factor (IF) scoring for a journal has been debatable and so has been the authenticity of indexing. Awareness regarding standard guidelines is required for reliable and valid research. Evidence from a scientific research is the need of the day for an emerging economy like India to help build universal health coverage and meet sustainable developmental goals. This article analyses the concepts of IF and indexing and discusses the best practices for the editors, peer reviewers, and authors.

The opportunity for continual learning and development is one of the reasons many of us are attracted to, and remain in, the medical writing profession. A culture of learning is critical to instill ongoing development in any profession. For medical writers, it helps to maintain a broad perspective and adapt to the change that is a part of our industry. Medical advisory board meetings are an integral part of the healthcare and, in particular, the pharmaceutical landscape. These meetings serve to identify knowledge gaps in a specific therapeutic area and to suggest measures that could be implemented and followed to bridge the identified gaps. Although the preparation and hosting of these meetings and the creation of the meeting reports and publications are tasks often assigned to medical writers, there are no standard guidelines or templates on how to accomplish these tasks.
