Abstract This research investigates the impact of gamma irradiation on epoxy-MWCNT nanocomposites for satellite deployment mechanisms. Nanocomposites, enhanced with surfactants, were meticulously prepared and subjected to controlled gamma irradiation (250–1000 kGy) utilizing the Cobalt-60 facility Industrial Mega Gamma-1 at NCRRT in Egypt. Surface tension measurements explored surfactant effects on epoxy-MWCNT composites in acetone. Acetone reduced tension from 26.7 to be 24.2 (mN/m). Surfactants (Tween 80, SDS) effectively lowered tension (24.4 mN/m), while surfactant-free systems had higher tension (25.1 mN/m). Cationic surfactant (CTAB) slightly increased tension (25.4 mN/m) but aided MWCNT dispersion. Nonionic and anionic surfactants showed superior dispersing power, aligning with MWCNTs and enhancing dispersion. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) unveiled alterations in the thermal stability of epoxy-MWCNT nanocomposites induced by radiation, particularly evident at elevated doses (500 and 1000 kGy). Notably, surfactant-modified specimens exhibited discernible effects on various thermal stability parameters. DMA analysis revealed radiation-induced changes in viscoelastic properties. Unirradiated epoxy exhibited a Tg of 58 °C, while 250 kGy irradiation enhanced crosslinking (Tg: 64 °C). Higher doses (500 kGy, 1000 kGy) caused marginal Tg changes. Surfactant-modified samples showed varied effects, with Tween 80 emphasizing its role in phase separation. Results highlighted radiation’s influence on stiffness and energy dissipation. Shape memory behavior indicated increased recovery time with higher doses, except at 250 kGy. Epoxy-MWCNT exhibited a stable recovery time, suggesting a MWCNT stabilizing effect. Fixation rates consistently reached 100%, indicating improved shape recovery influenced by MWCNTs and surfactants. This study provides insights into optimizing nanocomposites for satellite deployment applications.

Abstract Special attention is given to the pharmacological treatment of combined medication of Carvedilol and hydrochlorothiazide which is the most effective and the most beneficial therapy for hypertensive patients with diabetes and various metabolic comorbidities. This work represents spectrophotometric platform scenarios based on factorized spectrum (FS) using interpoint data difference resolution scenarios (IDDRS) coupled with spectrum subtraction method (SS) for the concurrent quantification of carvedilol (CAR) and hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) when present together in a combination without the need for any initial physical separation steps. This IDD resolution scenario based on manipulating the zero-order spectra (D0) of both drugs in the mixture with various spectral features at different wavelength regions (200–400 nm), region I (220–250 nm), region II (240–300 nm) and region III (270–320 nm) via absorbance resolution (AR) and induced absorbance resolution (IAR) methods coupled with corresponding spectrum subtraction (SS). The calibration curves were established across the linearity ranges of 2.0–12.0 µg/mL at 242.50 nm and 4.0–40.0 µg/mL at 285.5 nm for CAR and 1.0–11.0 µg/mL at 226.10 nm and 2.0–20.0 µg/mL at 270.5 nm for HCT. Moreover, methods’ validation was confirmed via ICH guidelines. A Multicenter comparison between sensitivity, specificity in respect resolution sequence were applied using different wavelength regions with various concentration ranges was applied and finally spectral resolution recommendation is issued and cumulative validation score (CVS) is calculated as an indicator in the risk analysis. In quality control laboratories, the studied approaches are applicable for conducting analysis on the mentioned drugs. In addition, the selection of spectrophotometry aligns with the principles of green analytical chemistry, an approach that resonates with the overarching theme of minimizing environmental impact. Via four metric tools named: analytical greenness (AGREE), green analytical procedure index (GAPI), analytical eco-scale, and national environmental method index (NEMI), methods’ greenness profile was guaranteed.

Abstract A secondary data analysis of the 2022 Philippine National Demographic and Health Survey (PNDHS) was conducted to explore the underlying structure of knowledge regarding communicable and noncommunicable diseases using multilevel confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The PNDHS data consist of two levels: level-1 represents within-household data (household questionnaire), and level-2 represents between-household data (primary sampling unit (PSU)). Therefore, a two-level CFA and two-level variance CFA were performed. Furthermore, a multigroup analysis assessed the structural differences between males/females and urban/rural groups. In the PNDHS survey, 30,372 household interviews were completed. Knowledge levels for cancer, heart disease, diabetes, dengue fever, TB, and COVID-19 were 96.7%, 94.9%, 97.8%, 98.4%, 96.7%, and 92.8%, respectively. Abstract This work deals with promoting the efficiency of removing the cationic and ionic dyes by new aerogel–carbon nanostructures. For cleaner production the rice straw-pulping black liquors, which regards serious environmental risk during routine disposing, is used in preparing the aerogel precursors. These aerogels (AGBs) depend on using pulping black liquor in hybrid with resorcinol and the less carcinogenic formaldehyde butyraldehyde. Black liquors from five pulping processes are used, Elemental, thermogravimetric (TGA and DTG), and FTIR-ATR analyses are used to characterize the carbon precursors. While their adsorption behavior toward cationic and anionic dyes are accessed via iodine-value, adsorption capacity and kinetic models, textural characterization, and SEM. The TGA measurements reveal that AGBs from BLs of neutral sulfite and soda-borohydride pulping reagents have higher activation and degradation energies than other aerogels. In terms of cationic and anionic dyes adsorption as well as textural characterization, the AGB-CNSs surpass that made from BLs. The discarded KOH/NH4OH black liquor is used to synthesize the best aerogel precursor for producing cationic methylene blue dye (MB) adsorbent, where it provides an adsorption capacity 242.1 mg/g. The maximum anionic brilliant blue dye (BB) adsorption capacity, 162.6 mg/g, is noticed by Kraft BL-aerogel-CNSs. These finding data overcome the literature carbon adsorbents based on lignin precursors. All examined CNSs toward MB dye follow the Langmuir adsorption equilibrium; while primarily the Freundlich model for BB dye. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model well fits the adsorption kinetics of investigated AGB-CNSs. The textural characterization and SEM revealed a mixture of mesoporous and micro porous features in the CNSs.

Abstract One of the main components of the worldwide transition to sustainable energy is solar cells, usually referred to as photovoltaics. By converting sunlight into power, they lessen their reliance on fossil fuels and the release of greenhouse gases. Because solar cells are decentralized, distributed energy systems may be developed, which increases the efficiency of the cells. Chalcogenide perovskites have drawn interest due to their potential in solar energy conversion since they provide distinctive optoelectronic characteristics and stability. But high temperatures and lengthy reaction periods make it difficult to synthesise and process them. Therefore, we present the inaugural numerical simulation using SCAPS-1D for emerging inorganic BaZrS3/CuO heterojunction solar cells. This study delves into the behaviour of diverse parameters in photovoltaic devices, encompassing efficiency (η) values, short-circuit current density (Jsc), fill factor (FF), and open-circuit voltage (Voc). Additionally, we thoroughly examine the impact of window and absorber layer thickness, carrier concentration, and bandgap on the fundamental characteristics of solar cells. Our findings showcase the attainment of the highest efficiency (η) values, reaching 27.3% for our modelled devices, accompanied by Jsc values of 40.5 mA/cm2, Voc value of 0.79 V, and FF value of 85.2. The efficiency (η) values are chiefly influenced by the combined effects of Voc, Jsc, and FF values. This optimal efficiency was achieved with CuO thickness, band gap, and carrier concentration set at 5 µm, 1.05 eV, and above 1019 cm−3, respectively. In comparison, the optimal parameters for BaZrS3 include a thickness of 1 µm, a carrier concentration below 1020 cm−3, and a band gap less than 1.6 eV. Therefore, in the near future, the present simulation will simultaneously provide up an entirely novel field for the less defective perovskite solar cell.

Abstract The purpose of this research was to examine the potential effects of bentonite (BN) supplemented diets on growth, feed utilization, blood biochemistry, and histomorphology of Dicentrarchus labrax. Six treatments in triplicate were tested: B0, B0.5, B1.0, B1.5, B3.0, and B4.5, which represented fish groups fed diets supplemented with 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 3, and 4.5% BN, respectively. For 84 days, juveniles’ seabass (initial weight = 32.73 g) were fed diets containing 46% protein, three times daily at 3% of body weight. With a 5% daily water exchange, underground seawater (32 ppt) was used. Findings revealed significant improvements in water quality (TAN and NH3), growth (FW, WG and SGR) and feed utilization (FCR, PER and PPV) in fish fed BN-supplemented diets, with the best values in favor of the B1.5 group. Additional enhancements in kidney function indicators (urea and uric acid) and liver enzymes were observed in fish of the BN-treated groups along with a decrease in cholesterol level in the B1.5 group. Further improvements in fish innate immunity (hemoglobin, red blood cells, glucose, total protein, globulin, and immunoglobulin IgM), antioxidant activity (total antioxidative capacity and catalase), and decreased cortisol levels in fish of the BN-treated groups. Histological examinations of the anterior and posterior intestines and liver in groups B1.5 and B3 revealed the healthiest organs. This study recommends BN at a concentration of 1.5% as a feed additive in the Dicentrarchus labrax diet.

Abstract Leontodon hispidulus Boiss is a wild annual plant growing in Egypt. The present study aims for the first time, to evaluate the phytochemical profile of the main secondary metabolites of the optimized ethanolic extract of the plant using Quadrupole Time-of-Flight Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. It also aims to assess the anticancer activity of its different fractions against the prostate carcinoma cell line. Moreover, an in-silico docking study was performed using the Hexokinase-two enzyme. LC-qToF-MS analysis revealed the tentative identification of 36 phenolic compounds including the glycosides of (luteolin, quercetin, kaempferol, apigenin, isorhamnetin, and daidzein), coumarines (esculin, esculetin, and daphnetin), and phenolic acids (chlorogenic, caffeic, quinic, P-coumaric, and rosmarinic). GC–MS/MS analysis revealed the presence of 18 compounds where palmitic acid, myristic acid, alpha-amyrin, and beta-amyrin were the major ones. The cytotoxic activity results revealed that methylene chloride and ethyl acetate fractions showed the highest cytotoxic activity against the PC3 cell line, with IC50 values of 19, and 19.6 μg/ml, respectively. Interestingly, the docking study demonstrated that apigenin-7-O-glucoside, luteolin-7-O-glucoside, kaempferol-3-O-glucuronide, quercetin-4′-O-glucoside, esculin, rosmarinic acid, chlorogenic acid, and α-amyrin exhibited high affinity to the selected target, HEK-2 enzyme.

Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the potential of Ipomoea carnea flower methanolic extract (ICME) as a natural gastroprotective therapy against ethanol-induced gastric ulcers, particularly in individuals exposed to ionizing radiation (IR). The study focused on the Nrf2/HO−1 signaling pathway, which plays a crucial role in protecting the gastrointestinal mucosa from oxidative stress and inflammation. Male Wistar rats were divided into nine groups, the control group received distilled water orally for one week, while other groups were treated with ethanol to induce stomach ulcers, IR exposure, omeprazole, and different doses of ICME in combination with ethanol and/or IR. The study conducted comprehensive analyses, including LC-HRESI-MS/MS, to characterize the phenolic contents of ICME. Additionally, the Nrf2/HO−1 pathway, oxidative stress parameters, gastric pH, and histopathological changes were examined. The results showed that rats treated with IR and/or ethanol exhibited histopathological alterations, increased lipid peroxidation, decreased antioxidant enzyme activity, and reduced expression levels of Nrf2 and HO−1. However, pretreatment with ICME significantly improved these parameters. Phytochemical analysis identified 39 compounds in ICME, with flavonoids, hydroxybenzoic acids, and fatty acids as the predominant compounds. Virtual screening and molecular dynamics simulations suggested that ICME may protect against gastric ulceration by inhibiting oxidative stress and inflammatory mediators. In conclusion, this study demonstrates the potential of ICME as a natural gastroprotective therapy for preventing gastric ulcers. These findings contribute to the development of novel interventions for gastrointestinal disorders using natural plant extracts particularly in individuals with a history of radiation exposure.

Abstract The Western Delta Deep Marine Concession (WDDM) in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea is one of northern Africa's most recent petroleum-potential regions for gas and condensate exploration. The present study aims to determine the characteristics of the 15 natural gases and 5 associated condensate samples, using molecular compositions and isotopes from the Miocene reservoir rocks in the various wells located in the WDDM. The results of this study are also used to determine the gas-condensate correlation for their probable source rocks as well as the methane-generating mechanisms (i.e., thermogenic or microbiological). Results highlighted in this research reveal that most of the natural gases in WDDM are mainly thermogenic methane gases, with small contributions of biogenic methane gases that were generated from mainly mixed sources, with a high sapropelic organic matter input for biogenic gases. The thermogenic methane gases were formed from secondary oil and oil/gas cracking at the high maturity stage of the gas window. The biogenic gases are also contributed to the Miocene reservoirs, which are formed from the primary cracking of kerogen at low maturity stage by the action of CO2 bacterial reduction. In addition, the saturated and aromatic biomarker results show that the condensate samples were generated from clay-rich source rocks. This source unit of the Miocene condensates were deposited in a fluvial deltaic environmental setting, containing mixed kerogen type II/III and accumulated during the Jurassic–Cretaceous, as evidenced by the age dating indicators. The properties of the natural gases and associated condensates in the Miocene reservoir rocks suggest that most of the thermogenic methane gases, together with the condensate, are derived primarily from mature Jurassic–Cretaceous source rocks and formed by secondary oil and oil/gas cracking at the gas generation window, as demonstrated by the 1-D basin modelling results highlighted in the prior works. Therefore, most of the natural gases in WDDM are non-indigenous and migrated from more mature Jurassic–Cretaceous source rocks in the nearby Northern Sinai provinces or the deeper sequences in the offshore Nile Delta provinces.

Background: Inflammation play a key role for COVID-19 infection and its adverse outcomes. Objectives: The study aimed to evaluate different systemic inflammatory indices as a predictor of COVID-19 infection. Patients and Methods: A cross-sectional study conducted on patients suspected of having COVID-19. PCR was done and laboratory tests including CBC, coagulation profile, D-dimer, CRP, and diverse of established systemic inflammatory ratios were evaluated on admission [Neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio(NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio(PLR), lymphocyte/monocyte ratio(LMR), systemic immune-inflammation index(SII), lymphocyte-to-CRP ratio (LCR), prognostic index (PI), Neutrophil platelet score (NPS), systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), and platelet/monocyte Neutrophil ratio. Results: We included 128 patients, 56 males (43.75%) and 72 females (56.25%), 48 (37.5%) had positive PCR, and 80 (62.5%) had negative PCR. PCR (+) patients had significantly higher NLR (median: 7.37, range: 0.5:158), MLR (median: 0.56, range: 0.03:4.7), and PLR (median: 274.15, range: 13.2:1475) compared to PCR (-) patients (median: 3.46, range: 0.2:24), (median: 0.333, range: 0.03:3.5), (median: 116.7, range: 50.8:878.1) respectively, (P=0.001). PCR (+) patients had a significantly higher PI (p< 0.00001) and NPS (P=0,004). D-Dimer had the highest Area Under Curve (0.979), followed by CRP (0.950), INR (0.919), PC (0.920), PT (0.831), Neutrophil % (0.710), and inflammatory indices PLR (0.748), SII (0.724), NLR (0.698), SIRS (0.674), LMR (0.668), LCR (0.651), and P2/MS (0.605). Conclusion: The calculated inflammatory indices, and the prognostic index can be used to estimate the degree of COVID-19 disease, and combined assessments for multiple inflammatory scores are more accurate in predicting disease severity and offer clinical benefits.

Background: Non-tunneled and Tunneled Hemodialysis Catheters are used for prompt renal replacement therapy via vascular access. Objectives: To estimate the complications of tunnelled haemodialysis catheters and non-tunnelled catheters and compare the outcome of them. Patients and methods: A total of 50 patients undergoing renal dialysis were enrolled and divided into two groups based on the type of the dialysis catheter. Group I (25 patients) included patients managed with non-tunneled catheters (NTCs), while group II (25 patients) included patients managed with Tunneled dialysis catheters (TDCs). Results: The mean age of group I (NTC group) was 58.6 ± 8.0 years,13 (52%) patients were males, the mean BMI was 38±4.3 kg/㎡. In TDC group, the mean age was 56 ± 8.8 years, 10 (40%) patients were males, the mean BMI was 37.1 ±3.9 kg/㎡. NTC and TDC groups were compared in terms of complications. The premature removal rate was 36% and 12% in group I and II respectively. Bleeding was reported in 32% and 8% in group I and II respectively. In the NTC group, 32% had functional complications, while 28% had procedural complications, and in only 4% of the TDC group. In the TDC group, only 4% had either procedural or functional complications. Multiple sticks were encountered in 32% and 2% in group I and II respectively. Conclusion: TDCs have substantially fewer complications and better performance characteristics than NTCs.

Abstract This work deals with providing a green pulping process of rice straw with zero waste discharged, via valorization of its by-product as a promising precursor for production of carbon nanostructures. The carbon nanostructures (BL-CNSs) from rice straw pulping liquors (BLs) are prepared in one step with phosphoric acid activation. The carbon nanostructures (BL-CNSs) from rice straw pulping liquors (BLs) are prepared in one step with phosphoric acid activation. The optimal pulping approach for achieving effective adsorbent (BL-CNSs) of cationic and anionic dyes is recommended from using different BLs precursors resulting from different reagents (alkaline, neutral, and acidic reagents). The carbon precursors are characterized by elemental, thermal (TGA and DTG) and ATR FTIR analyses. While the impact of pulping route on performance of CNSs is evaluated by their adsorption of iodine, cationic dye and anionic dye, as well as ATR-FTIR, textural characterization, and SEM. The data of elemental analysis displayed a high Carbon content ranges from 57.85 to 66.69% suitable for CNSs preparation, while the TGA showed that Sulphur-containing BLs (Kraft, neutral sulfite and acidic sulfite) have higher degradation temperature and activation energies as compared with other BLs. The optimum BL-CNSs adsorbent is prepared from the disposed neutral sulfite black liquor, with the following characteristics: cationic dye adsorption capacity 163.9 mg/g, iodine value 336.9 mg/g and SBET 310.6 m2/g. While the Kraft-CNSs provided highest anionic adsorption (70.52 mg/g). The studies of equilibrium and kinetic adsorption of dyes showed that the adsorption equilibrium of all investigated BL-CNSs toward MB follow the Langmuir and mainly Freundlich models for BB adoption. Their adsorption kinetics are a good fit with the pseudo-second-order model. The textural characterization and SEM revealed the CNSs exhibit a mixture of mesoporous and microporous structure.

Abstract In a search for new antioxidants, a set of new iodoquinazolinone derivatives bearing benzenesulfonamide moiety and variable acetamide pharmacophores 5–17 were designed and synthesized. The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed based on spectral data. Compounds 5–17 were screened using in vitro assay for their antioxidant potential and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory activity. The 2-(6-iodo-4-oxo-3-(4-sulfamoylphenyl)-3,4-dihydroquinazolin-2-ylthio)-N-(pyrazin-2-yl) acetamide 14 was the most active scaffold with potent AChE inhibitory activity. Compound 14 showed relative safety with a median lethal dose of 300 mg/kg (LD50 = 300 mg/kg), in an acute toxicity study. The possible antioxidant and neuroprotective activities of 14 were evaluated in irradiated mice. Compound 14 possessed in vivo AChE inhibitory activity and was able to modify the brain neurotransmitters. It was able to cause mitigation of gamma radiation-induced oxidative stress verified by the decline in Myeloperoxidase (MPO) and increase of glutathione (GSH) levels. Also, 14 restored the alterations in behavioral tests. Molecular docking of 14 was performed inside MPO and AChE active sites and showed the same binding interactions as that of the co-crystallized ligands considering the binding possibilities and energy scores. These findings would support that 14 could be considered a promising antioxidant with a neuromodulatory effect.

Abstract Upscaling the utilization of polymer wastes together with the valorization of undesirable waste rice straw (RS) will minimize the environmental impact of waste disposal by traditional tools. This present work assesses the utilization of polyethylene terephthalate wastes in enhancing the production of polyester-(high density polyethylene) HDPE from Rice straw polyol composites. In this respect, the polyester from rice straw polyol in hybrid with glycolysis polyethylene terephthalate wastes (Gly-WPET) was assessed in comparison with that resulted from RS-polyol, using FTIR, non-isothermal analysis, and mechanical tests. The data showed the positive role of Gly-WPET in hybrid with RS-polyol in production polyester with high thermal stability and mechanical properties. It provided an increase in activation energy of degradation, elongation, Young's Modulus, and modulus of toughness from 184.5 to 1201 kJ/mole, from 4.7 to 9.8%, from 47.5 to 66.5 MPa, and from ~ 4.0 to 23 J/m3, respectively. This behavior was reflected in the properties of HDPE-polyester polyol (PEPO) composites, especially in improving elongation (from 55.4 to 72%). These promising data persuade us to recommend the influential role of Gly-WPET in using PEPO from liquefied RS as a plasticizer.

The detrimental effects of ultraviolet C (UVC) radiation on living organisms, with a specific focus on the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster, were examined. This study investigated the impact of heightened UVC radiation exposure on D. melanogaster by assessing mortality and fertility rates, studying phenotypic mutations, and investigating the associated molecular mechanisms. The findings of this study revealed that UVC radiation increases mortality rates and decreases fertility rates in D. melanogaster. Additionally, phenotypic wing mutations were observed in the exposed flies. Furthermore, the study demonstrated that UVC radiation downregulates the expression of antioxidant genes, including superoxide dismutase (SOD), manganese-dependent superoxide dismutase (Mn-SOD), zinc-dependent superoxide dismutase (Cu-Zn-SOD), and the G protein-coupled receptor methuselah (MTH) gene. These results suggest that UVC radiation exerts a destructive effect on D. melanogaster by inducing oxidative stress, which is marked by the overexpression of harmful oxidative processes and a simultaneous reduction in antioxidant gene expression. In conclusion, this study underscores the critical importance of comprehending the deleterious effects of UVC radiation, not only to safeguard human health on Earth, but also to address the potential risks associated with space missions, such as the ongoing Emirate astronaut program.

The present study aims to investigate the influence of zeolite usage and stocking densities on various parameters, including ammonia removal from water, accumulation of heavy metals in fish organs, water quality, growth performance, feed efficiency, muscle composition, as well as hematological and biochemical parameters in European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) over a 90-day duration. A total of 2400 D. labrax with an initial weight of 9.83 ± 2.02 g and initial length of 9.37 ± 0.32 cm were distributed among 24 tanks. The research involved six distinct treatment groups, with two different zeolite levels (0 and 15 ppt) and three stocking density levels (50, 100, and 150 fish/m3), each replicated four times. The results of the research demonstrate a statistically significant improvement (p < 0.05) in water quality measures with the introduction of zeolite. The successful implementation of this amendment mitigated the adverse effects of fish density on water quality parameters. Higher stocking density negatively impacted European sea bass growth, feed utilization, and hemato-biochemical indicators. Zeolite use effectively alleviated these adverse effects, particularly on performance, feed utilization, hematological, and biochemical parameters. The study's results indicate that the utilization of zeolite has shown to be efficacious in mitigating the accumulation of heavy metals in both water and fish organs, while concurrently augmenting fish attributes. However, the increase in density led to a significant decrease in the accumulation of heavy metals in both water and fish organs. The present study highlights the capacity of natural zeolites to mitigate the negative consequences associated with water quality concerns. The efficiency of these zeolites in limiting the accessibility of heavy metals in polluted water is shown, hence minimizing their accumulation in fish organs. In addition, the improvement of fish performance has the capacity to have a beneficial influence on both the well-being and efficiency of fish in aquaculture. Additional research is essential to fully understand the complex molecular pathways involved in utilizing natural zeolite under different fish densities.

Abstract Outlined here is an innovative method for characterizing a layer of microelongated semiconductor material under excitation. Fractional time derivatives of a heat equation with a rotational field are used to probe the model during photo-excitation processes. Micropolar-thermoelasticity theory, which the model implements, introduces the microelongation scalar function to characterize the processes occurring inside the microelements. When the microelongation parameters are considered following the photo-thermoelasticity theory, the model investigates the interaction scenario between optical-thermo-mechanical waves under the impact of rotation parameters. During electronic and thermoelastic deformation, the key governing equations have been reduced to dimensionless form. Laplace and Fourier's transformations are used to solve this mathematical problem. Isotropic, homogeneous, and linear microelongated semiconductor medium's general solutions to their respective fundamental fields are derived in two dimensions (2D). To get complete solutions, several measurements must be taken at the free surface of the medium. As an example of numerical modeling of the important fields, we will use the silicon (Si) material’s physicomechanical characteristics. Several comparisons were made using different values of relaxation time and rotation parameters, and the results were graphically shown.

Background Hemolytic anemia (HA) is a serious health condition resulting from reduced erythrocytes’ average life span. Echinochrome (Ech) is a dark-red pigment found in shells and spines of sea urchins. Aim Studying the potential therapeutic effect of Ech on phenylhydrazine (PHZ)-induced HA in rats. Methods Eighteen rats were divided into three groups (n = 6): the control group, the phenylhydrazine-induced HA group and the Ech group, injected intraperitoneally with PHZ and supplemented with oral Ech daily for 6 days. Results Ech resulted in a considerable increase in RBCs, WBCs, and platelets counts, hemoglobin, reduced glutathione, catalase, and glutathione-S-transferase levels, and a significant decrease in aspartate & alanine aminotransferases, alkaline phosphatase, gamma-glutamyl transferase, bilirubin, creatinine, urea, urate, malondialdehyde & nitric oxide levels in anemic rats. Histopathological examination of liver and kidney tissue samples showed marked improvement. Conclusion Ech ameliorated phenylhydrazine-induced HA with a hepatorenal protective effect owing to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Podoplanin (D2-40) is a lymphatic endothelial marker that is considered as a specific marker for lymphatic endothelial cells and lymphangiogenesis in salivary gland carcinomas (SGCs). Aim: the present study aimed to investigate the immunohistochemical expression of podoplanin in SGCs and to correlate its expression with the clinicopathological parameters and patients’ survival. Forty-nine SGC cases were electronically selected. Demographic, clinical, laboratory, and survival data were reviewed and tabulated. Immunohistochemistry was performed using antipodoplanin. Cases were divided into low and high expression based on a scoring system. A score of 0 and 1 was considered low expression, while > 1 was considered high expression. Podoplanin high expression was seen in 46.9% of cases, and 53.1% of cases showed low expression. Significant statistical associations were seen between podoplanin expression and tumour grade ( p ≤ 0.001), tumour-nodal- metastasis (TNM) stage (p ≤ 0.001), tumour size (p ≤ 0.001), nodal metastasis (p ≤ 0.001), tumour type (p = 0.03), prognosis (p ≤ 0.001), and mortality (p ≤ 0.001). The overall survival and progression-free survival differed significantly in cases with high and low expression (p ≤ 0.001). Podoplanin overexpression might be a significant prognostic indicator for patients with SGCs, implicating that it is a potential therapeutic target to improve survival in these cancer patients.

Abstract The potential of the surface dielectric barrier discharge technique (SDBD) was evaluated to decontaminate the date palm fruit. Preliminary investigations emphasized that Aspergillus niger fungus was predominant in most date samples as a post-harvest infestation. The influence of SDBD techniques on the viability of A. niger isolated from date varieties was investigated and documented. Physical and chemical characterizations of treated dates were assessed, and statistical correlation coefficients were calculated and elucidated. A 4 log10 reduction of A. niger radial growth was observed at 3 min exposure/15 days of incubation. Simultaneous reductions in pH, water activity, and moisture content of treated dates were observed when compared to untreated dates. Statistical analysis showed a positive correlation between physical and chemical variables with the viability of A. niger in treated samples. Therefore, we believe that SDBD treatment will be a promising technique for decontaminating date fruits from attacked fungi, which will positively impact sustainable food security and consumer health.

Background: Mental health issues are major public health concern. Primary caregivers of diabetic children carry multi-dimensional burden during management of this chronic condition and are vulnerable to various mental disorders. Objective(s): To identify the common mental health disorders and mental health help-seeking behaviors among caregivers of diabetic children. Methods: A comparative cross-sectional study including primary caregivers of children with type-1 diabetes (n=151) and caregivers of non-diabetic children (n=151) was carried out at Suez Canal University and Health Insurance hospitals in Ismailia, Egypt. Participants completed a structured questionnaire including socio-demographic characteristics, medical histories, and recent mental health help-seeking behaviors. WHO self-reporting questionnaire-20 (SRQ-20) was used to assess the suspected Common Mental Health Disorders (CMHD) among studied caregivers. Results: suspected CMHD among caregivers of diabetic children was relatively higher than the caregivers of non-diabetic children (75.5% vs. 72.2%, p = 0.513). The proportion of caregivers of diabetic children who sought formal sources of mental health help was significantly lower than caregivers of non-diabetic children (6.7% vs. 20.5%). Caregivers with suspected CMHD had significantly lower perceived mental and physical health and sought mental health help more than those with no suspected CMHD (31.8% vs. 17.7%, p =0.02). The main significant determinants of suspected CMHD were the perceived mental and physical health (p < 0.001, and 0.027, respectively). Conclusion: No significant difference in CMHD existed between caregivers in studied groups. Caregivers of diabetic children were less likely to seek formal sources of mental health help-seeking. Perceived mental and physical health were the determinants of CMHD.

Background: One of the most significant modifiable risk factors for coronary artery disease (CAD) is dyslipidemia. Acute coronary syndromes (ACS) were shown to be a key contributing factor to patients being admitted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) at Sohag University Hospital. Objectives: To analyze lipid profile in patients with ACS who presents at Sohag university hospital, and its clinical and complications pattern. Patiets and methods: This study involved100 patients above 18 years old diagnosed with ACS. Patients were classified into 3 groups; ST-elevation MI (STEMI), non-ST-elevation MI (NSTEMI) and unstable angina (UA) group. All participants were subjected to history taking, clinical assessment and measuring complete lipid profile values. Results: STEMI group has higher significant total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol LDL-C (P < 0.001), Triglycerides (TG) (P =0.022), TC/HDL (P =0.027 ) and TG/HDL levels (P = 0.001) and lower significant high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) (p=0.006) than other groups. There was a significant correlation between age groups and TC (P0.05). Conclusion: Patients with ACS have a significant prevalence of dyslipidemia as a risk factor. These individuals are more likely to have low HDL than high LDL values; nevertheless, they are more likely to have high TG values than low HDL values.

Abstract To the best of our knowledge, there have been no phytochemical studies concerning the wild plant Leontodon hispidulus Boiss. (Asteraceae). Optimization of the green extraction process of the plant aerial parts, identification of main phenolic compounds, evaluation of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities of the optimized extract have been carried out. HPLC-analysis was performed using 95% ethanolic extract. 3-Level Box-Behnken Design was applied for optimization of extraction yield and total phenolic content using 3-factors (ethanol/water ratio, material/solvent ratio and extraction time). Antioxidant, anticancer and anti-inflammatory activities were evaluated by ABTS-assay, prostate and cervical carcinoma human cell lines and carrageenan-induced rat paw edema model, respectively. HPLC-analysis showed the presence of quercetin, rutin, kaempferol, chlorogenic and ρ-coumaric acids. Increasing both ethanol/water ratio and material/solvent ratio decreased the yield, while, it increased by prolongation of the extraction time. High material/solvent ratio increased the phenolic content. The optimized extract showed high total phenolic content (104.18 µg/mg) using 201 ml of 74.5% ethanol/water at 72 h and good biological activities. Antioxidant activity was found to be 41.89 mg Trolox-equivalent/gm, with 80% free radicals inhibition. For anti-inflammatory activity, 100 mg/kg of the extract inhibited the edema in rats by 83.5% after 4 h of carrageenan injection as compared to 81.7% inhibition by indomethacin. Prostate carcinoma cell line was more sensitive to the anticancer activity of the extract than cervical carcinoma cell line (IC50 = 16.5 and 23 μg/ml, respectively). The developed extraction procedure proved to be efficient in enriching the extract with phenolic compounds with promising anticancer, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities.

Abstract The current study was directed toward developing a new series of fused heterocycles incorporating indazolylthiazole moiety. The newly synthesized compounds were characterized through elemental analysis and spectral data (IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and Mass Spectrometry). The cytotoxic effect of the newly synthesized compounds was evaluated against normal human cells (HFB-4) and cancer cell lines (HepG-2 and Caco-2). Among the synthesized compounds, derivatives 4, and 6 revealed a significant selective antitumor activity, in a dose-dependent manner, against both HepG-2 and Caco-2 cell lines, with lower risk toward HFB-4 cells (normal cells). Derivative 8 revealed the maximum antitumor activity toward both tumor cell lines, with an SI value of about 26 and IC50 value of about 5.9 μg/mL. The effect of these derivatives (8, 4, and 6) upon the expression of 5 tumor regulating genes was studied through quantitative real-time PCR, where its interaction with these genes was simulated through the molecular docking study. Furthermore, the antimicrobial activity results revealed that compounds 2, 7, 8, and 9 have a potential antimicrobial activity, with maximum broad-spectrum activity through compound 3 against the three tested pathogens: Streptococcus mutans, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans. The newly prepared compounds also revealed anti-biofilm formation activity with maximum activity against Streptococcus mutans, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans, respectively.

Background: Several systemic diseases manifest themselves in the oral cavity. Dentists who are unaware of these lesions will possibly miss them. This cross-sectional study aimed to assess the prevalence of oral manifestations in patients with LE in a sample of the Egyptian population. Methods: The present cross-sectional study was performed on 189 patients attending the Internal Medicine Department, Rheumatology Clinic in EL Qasr El Ainy Hospital, Cairo University. Every patient was examined clinically after completing a questionnaire. Patients’ medical records were evaluated. The oral manifestations were assessed according to the WHO guide to physical examination of the oral cavity and classified according to their morphologic aspects and localization. Results: Out of 189 patients, there were 182 females (96.3%) and seven males (3.7%). The prevalence of oral lesions in SLE patients was 55.6%. The most affected site was the tongue 25.7%. The most common clinical aspect was patches, 53%. About 77.1% of the lesions were asymptomatic. Conclusions: The present study emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis of oral lesions to recognize patients with SLE as the WHO considers oral manifestations of SLE a widespread state. Also, the implementation of oral hygiene measures to improve patients’ nutritional state and health-related quality of life is recommended.

Abstract Background Overdose of paracetamol affects liver cells leading to cell death. This is done through hepatic necrosis, which is characterized by a rupture of the plasma membrane. A variety of investigations has been conducted using herbal extracts to assess liver toxicity induced by paracetamol. Here we examined herbal plant species, Acridocarpus orientalis (A. orientalis), ethanolic extract to study its potential to protect against hepatotoxicity in mice. Serum alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST) and reduced glutathione (GSH) enzymes were estimated for all mice groups. A phytochemical screening was also conducted. Results Phytochemical screening showed that A. orientalis contains flavonoids, tannins, carbohydrates and phenolics derivatives. A. orientalis pretreatment showed significant reduction of liver marker enzymes ALT and AST in almost all concentrations. Furthermore, serum GSH levels were significantly increased in A. orientalis pretreated mice groups. Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most dangerous complication of chronic liver disease. It is a multifactorial complicated disease. Hepatitis C and hepatitis B viruses (HCV and HBV, respectively) represent the main causes of HCC in Egypt. Early diagnosis is very important to aid in early intervention. Objectives: The goal of this research is to evaluate the metabolic role of different amino acids as non-invasive biomarkers over the course of HCC. Methods: This study included 302 participants with 97 diagnosed, untreated HCC patients, 81 chronic HCV patients, 56 chronic HBV patients, 18 co-infected patients, and a control group of 50 normal age and gender-matched individuals. All participants provided complete medical histories and underwent complete clinical examinations, abdominal ultrasonography and/or computed tomography, routine laboratory investigations, estimation of serum α-fetoprotein, and determination of amino acid levels using ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC MS/MS). Results: This work revealed a decline in branched chain amino acids (BCAA) and increase in aromatic amino acids (AAA) among infected groups (HCC, HBV, HCV, and co-infected patients) compared to control subjects and a marked change in Fisher’s and the BCAAs/tyrosine molar concentration ratios (BTR) between controls and infected groups. Conclusion: Different amino acids could be used as non-invasive markers to discriminate and follow chronic hepatitis patients to predict the course of HCC.

(1) Background: The monkeypox virus is a zoonotic orthopox DNA virus that is closely linked to the virus. In light of the growing concern about this virus, the current research set out to use bioinformatics and immunoinformatics to develop a potential vaccine against the virus. (2) Methods: A multiepitope vaccine was constructed from the B-cell and T-cell epitopes of the MPXVgp181 strain using adjuvant and different linkers. The constructed vaccine was predicted for antigenicity, allergenicity, toxicity, and population coverage. In silico immune simulation studies were also carried out. Expression analysis and cloning of the constructed vaccine was carried out in the pET-28a(+) vector using snapgene. (3) Results: The constructed vaccine was predicted to be antigenic, non-allergenic, and non-toxic. It was predicted to have excellent global population coverage and produced satisfactory immune response. The in silico expression and cloning studies were successful in E. coli, which makes the vaccine construct suitable for mass production in the pharmaceutical industry. (4) Conclusion: The constructed vaccine is based on the B-cell and T-cell epitopes obtained from the MPXVgp181 strain. This research can be useful in developing a vaccine to combat the monkeypox virus globally after performing in-depth in vitro and in vivo studies.

Introduction Critical care in low-income and low-middle income countries (LLMICs) is an underdeveloped component of the healthcare system. Given the increasing growth in demand for critical care services in LLMICs, understanding the current capacity to provide critical care is imperative to inform policy on service expansion. Thus, our aim is to describe the provision of critical care in LLMICs with respect to patients, providers, location of care and services and interventions delivered.Methods and analysis We will search PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science and EMBASE for full-text original research articles available in English describing critical care services that specify the location of service delivery and describe patients and interventions. We will restrict our review to populations from LLMICs (using 2016 World Bank classifications) and published from 1 January 2008 to 1 January 2020. Two-reviewer agreement will be required for both title/abstract and full text review stages, and rate of agreement will be calculated for each stage. We will extract data regarding the location of critical care service delivery, the training of the healthcare professionals providing services, and the illnesses treated according to classification by the WHO Universal Health Coverage Compendium.Ethics and dissemination Reviewed and exempted by the Stanford University Office for Human Subjects Research and IRB on 20 May 2020. The results of this review will be disseminated through scholarly publication and presentation at regional and international conferences. Objective(s): Testicular torsion/detorsion (T/D) is a well-known cause for infertility. Pioglitazone is an agonist of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor-gamma (PPAR-γ). Previous studies have shown that pioglitazone has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antiapoptotic properties. The present study hypothesized that pioglitazone may be protective against the testicular T/D tissue insults, and the possible pathophysiological mechanisms involved in this effect were also investigated. Materials and Methods: Rats were randomly divided into four groups: sham group, T/D group where testicular torsion was performed for 4 hr followed by 4 hr of detorsion and two pioglitazone-treated groups (1 mg/kg and 3 mg/kg, by single intraperitoneal injection 30 min prior to detorsion). At the end of reperfusion period, blood, ipsilateral and contralateral testicular tissue samples were obtained for biochemical and histopathological examination. Results: Pioglitazone reduced oxidative tissue damages, inflammatory mediators, and apoptotic markers and enhanced the total antioxidant status, and AMP-activated protein kinase level. Moreover, pioglitazone improved spermatogenesis evidenced by increased Johnsen’s score and reversed the histopathological damages induced by testicular T/D. The effects of pioglitazone were higher with the dose of 3 mg/kg.Conclusion: Pioglitazone exhibited a protective effect against the deleterious actions of testicular T/D. This beneficial potential of pioglitazone may be attributed to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antiapoptotic properties, which was more obvious with the dose of 3 mg/kg. Pioglitazone may be a promising therapy for testicular T/D.

The newer and potent immunosuppressive agents have successfully reduced the risk of rejection after kidney transplantation, but the development of cardiovascular diseases, infections, and malignancy is major factors limiting their success. Posttransplantation malignancy is the second most common cause of death in renal transplant recipients after cardiovascular disease; it is expected that mortality due to malignancy may become the most common cause of death within the next two decades. This study is designed to evaluate the incidence, risk factors, and types of malignancies occurring after renal transplantation and their impact on patient and graft survival. A total of 2288 patients underwent living donor renal allotransplantation in the Urology and Nephrology Center, Mansoura University, during the period between 1975 and 2011. Among these patients, 100 patients developed posttransplantation malignancy. Patients were categorized into five major groups according to their type of malignancy; Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS), non-Kaposi’s skin tumors (non-KS), posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLD), solid tumors, and genitourinary and reproductive system (GU and RS). Overall, the incidence of cancer in renal transplant recipients was 4%. There were 83 male (83%) and 17 female patients (17%). The most frequent cancer was KS seen in 33 patients (33%). The lowest median time to development of cancer was observed in KS (35 months). The highest median time to development of cancer was observed in PTLD (133 months). The best graft survival was observed in PTLD and the worst in non-KS tumors. The best patient survival was observed in KS and the worst in GU and RS tumors. Azathioprine-based regimen was associated with a higher rate of cancer. The number of patients who died was 65 (65%). Our results indicate that the occurrence of malignancy has an important impact on short- and long-term graft and patient survival.

Growth failure is one of the most common and profound clinical manifestation of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in infants, children and adolescents. The aim of this study was to assess the nutritional status of Egyptian children with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on regular hemodialysis (HD). The study included 50 Egyptian children with ESRD on regular HD, following-up at the Pediatric Nephrology unit, Cairo University. History, including dietary history, was taken for all patients and clinical examination was performed on all of them. Body weight, standing height, height or length SD score, the skin fold thickness, mid-arm circumference, mid-arm muscle circumference and mid-arm muscle circumference area were also assessed. The height of the patients was the most affected anthropometric parameter, as 78% of the patients were shorter (height SDS below -3). Body weight is less affected than height, as body weight SDS of 34% of patients was less than -3 SDS. In addition, the body mass index of 16% of the patients was 97 th percentile. Although most ESRD patients received adequate protein and caloric intake, their growth was markedly affected, especially with longer period on HD. We suggest that assessment of growth parameters should be performed at a minimum period of every six months in children with CKD stages 2-3. For children with more advanced CKD (stages 4-5 and 5D), more frequent evaluation may be warranted due to the greater risk of abnormalities.
