For global media companies, understanding users’ engagement and local user needs is crucial in order to expand and develop their media products. The authors examine the current status and development of mobile and social media usage patterns across the globe and suggest solutions for globally positioned social network brands such as Twitter with a focus on German media consumer habits. The authors identify areas in the field of mobile video usage in social networks where media managers should actively focus on. Furthermore, they propose a framework which can be used as a further research agenda and a guideline to explain users’ behavior in this field.
