Melanoma is one of the most lethal types of skin cancer. However, early diagnosis increases the survival rate. The way to diagnose a malignant lesion by a physician is to visually examine the suspicious skin area. Artificial intelligence and deep-learning models have been applied to help physicians who are not as experienced. Therefore, work was done on the classification of melanomas to support the possible detection of malignant melanomas. Convolutional neural networks were used.

Due to the increasing prevalence of obesity and its negative consequences worldwide on public health, body composition analysis is a central pillar to assess the nutritional status. Scientists could use datasets to develop a new body fat measurement formula. Using bioelectrical impedance analysis, we analyzed the total body composition of 345 patients (234 men and 111 women) aged between 18 and 60 years residing in the metropolitan area of Barranquilla, Colombia. They have the potential for predictive formula analysis enhancing the cooperation among scientists. Due to the obesity pandemic, new datasets from other populations are needed to develop a body fat basic mathematical equation formula that could be used worldwide to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity in a specific population group predisposed to develop metabolic syndrome or death, secondary to high cardiovascular risk.

This paper presents data collected through a questionnaire for the estimation of body dysmorphic disorder known as vigorexy, weight level and levels of exercise dependence in individuals from Barranquilla, Colombia who attend local gyms, based on their physical activity, food supplements eat- ing habits, psychological pressure, and risk of muscle dys- morphia. The Data contains 8 tributes and 200 records; la- belling obesity range according to WHO into normal, over- weight or obesity. All data was collected in person and di- rectly from users. This data can be used to generate scien- tific research and intelligent computational tools to identify the obesity level and muscle dysmorphia risk of an individ- ual and to build recommender systems that monitor health and mental status.

Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni is a perennial shrub with zero calorie content that has been increasing in popularity for its potential use as an adjuvant in the treatment of obesity. The level of evidence supporting general benefits to human health is insufficient. We conducted a review of the literature summarizing the current knowledge and role in human disease. Despite stevia’s minimal systemic absorption, studies have been promising regarding its potential benefits against inflammation, carcinogenesis, atherosclerosis glucose control, and hypertension. On the other hand, the growing popularity of artificial sweeteners does not correlate with improved trends in obesity. An increased intake of artificial non-caloric sweeteners may not be associated with decreased intake of traditional sugar-sweetened beverages and foods. The effects of Stevia on weight change have been linked to bacteria in the intestinal microbiome, mainly by affecting Clostridium and Bacteroides sp. populations. A growing body of evidence indicates that Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni is protective against malignant conversion by inhibition of DNA replication in human cancer cell growth in vitro. Consumption of Stevia has demonstrated to be generally safe in most reports. Further clinical studies are warranted to determine if regular consumption brings sustained benefits for human health.

Objetivo: relacionar las morbilidades de los pacientes pertenecientes al programa de EPOC de una institución de salud del municipio de Anserma, Caldas (Colombia). Material y Métodos: estudio descriptivo de 51 pacientes a quienes les fueron tomadas espirometrías exploratorias, los hallazgos fueron contrastados con las principales comorbilidades registradas en la Historia Clínica a través de estadística descriptiva e inferencial. Resultados: 50% presentaron al menos una comorbilidad registrada, principalmente la Hipertensión Arterial seguida de la Enfermedad Renal Crónica, se encontró un comportamiento asociado entre la clasificación GOLD y la presencia de síntomas con valores no estadísticamente significativos; no se encontró asociación estadísticamente significativa entre las comorbilidades y los valores espirométricos. Conclusiones: se hacen necesarias nuevas investigaciones que valoren de forma clara la causalidad en la población colombiana. Objective: to relate the morbidities of patients belonging to the COPD program of a health institution in Anserma, Caldas (Colombia). Material and Methods: a descriptive study was presented with a sample of 51 patients who underwent exploratory spirometry, the findings were contrasted with the main commodities reported by the patients or the Medical Record through descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: 50% of the evaluated population had at least one recorded comorbidity; the main morbidity found was Arterial Hypertension followed by Chronic Kidney Disease; an associated behavior was found between the GOLD classification and the presence of symptoms with non-statistically significant values; no statistically significant association was found between comorbidities and spirometric values. Conclusions: new research is needed that clearly values causality in the Colombian population.

En los últimos años ha habido un cambio radical en las instituciones de educaciónsuperior. El número de estudiantes ha aumentado, la competencia en impartir programas de calidad es una exigencia que demanda el entorno del mercado. Con el pasar del tiempo, han aparecido nuevos grados académicos que van unidos de la mano de una sociedad cada vez más tecnológica. La globalización y el acceso democrático a la educación y las experiencias de académicas internacionales de muchos estudiantes, precisan la estandarización de sus títulos académicos. Las siguientes abreviaturas corresponden a los grados académicos que son usados y deben escribirse después del nombre y apellido de la persona. Los grados por debajo de una maestría y que no corresponden a un grado profesional no se escriben; a menos que sea el máximo título que tiene una persona. Los grados especializados, licencias, certificaciones y credenciales por debajo del nivel de maestría en los campos médicos y en general del área de la salud deben escribirse. Los grados inusuales deben ser verificados siempre con la persona. Hay diferentes categorías de grados académicos para los estudiantes de postsecundaria, principalmente: asociado o técnico, licenciatura o profesional, especialista, maestría o magister y doctorado. Obtener uno de estos grados puede tomar entre 1-8 años, dependiendo del nivel del grado y el campo de estudio. Los diplomados no conducen a la obtención de un título o grado académico; no se consideran estudios de posgrado, pero sirve en algunas ocasiones para certificar el conocimiento de un tema específico.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of telenutrition versus traditional nutritional consultation for obese patients. Methods: A comparative clinical study was conducted among 233 (including 20 dropouts and 60 failures) obese or overweight women who consulted a nutrition clinic in Barranquilla (Colombia) for nutritional assessment by telenutrition or traditional attention that includes a weekly follow-up consultation over 16 weeks, food consumption patterns, Body Mass Index (BMI, kg/m2) register, waist and hip circumference register. Treatment response and difference between telenutrition and traditional consultation were made according to BMI, waist, hip and initial-waist/height ratio. Data´s nonparametric statistical comparison was made. Results: In 68 (29.2%) women who chose traditional attention, 9 (37.5%) dropped out, 24 (40%) failed and 35 (23.5%) were successful, showing 1.4%(1.0 SD) BMI loss, 5.8% (3.4 SD) in waist circumference, 4.5% (2.8 SD) in hip circumference and 0.04% (0.02 SD) in iwaist/height ratio. In 165 (70.8%) women who chose telenutrition, 15 (62.5%) dropped out, 36 (60%) failed and 114 (76.5%) were successful, showing 1.1% (1.0 SD) BMI loss, 5.0% (3.2 SD) in waist circumference, 3.5% (3.1 SD) in hip circumference and 0.03% (0.02 SD) in iwaist/height ratio. A significance level of pConclusion: Telenutrition has a failure or dropout risk factor about half values of traditional consultation with slightly statistically significant differences. This study concludes that telenutrition can support or sometimes replace the traditional consultation when developing weight loss programs in obese women.

Objective: To evaluate if there is a relation between social classes, level of education, marital status, alcohol and tobacco consumption with the success of weight loss in obese patients at a nutrition clinic. Methods: A clinical intervention study was conducted among overweight and obese patients who consulted a nutrition clinic in Barranquilla (Colombia) for the purpose of nutritional assessment. They were subject to a personalized weekly follow-up consultation over the course of 16 weeks in which food consumption patterns, body image and self-perception were registered. Results: A total of 271 patients were evaluated. 27 (10%) of whom did not complete the study. 244 (90%) patients followed the treatment, 70 (28,7%) didn't lose weight, considering them failures and 174 (71,3%) did lose weight. No considerable differences were observed in relation to social classes, level of education, marital status, alcohol and tobacco consumption in failure-success distribution. Conclusion: Based on these results, social classes, level of education, marital status, alcohol and tobacco consumption are not regarded as influential factors in the successful outcome of treatment in overweight and obese patients.

Introduction: Self-image is important in the behaviour and lifestyle of children and adolescents. Analysing the self-image they have and the factors that might influence their distortion, can be used to prevent problems of obesity and anorexia. The main objective of present publication was to analyse the risk factors that may contribute to self-image distortion. Material and Methods: A descriptive survey study was conducted among 659 children and adolescents in two social classes (low and medium-high), measuring height and weight, calculating BMI percentile for age and gender. Body image and self-perception were registered. Results: The percentage of overweight-obesity is higher in scholars (41.8% boys, 28.7% girls) than in adolescents (30.1% and 22.2% respectively), with no difference between socioeconomic classes. The multinomial logistic regression analysis gives a risk of believing thinner higher (p=0.000) among boys OR=2.9(95%CI:1.43-3.37), school (p=0.000) OR=2.42(95%CI:1.56-3.76) and much lower (p=0.000) between normally nourished OR=0.08(95%CI:0.05-0.13), with no differences according to socioeconomic status. The risk of believing fatter is lower (p=0.000) between boys OR=0.28(95%CI:0.14-0.57), school(p=0.072) OR=0.54(95%CI:0.27-1.6), and much higher among underweight (p=0.000) OR=9x108(95% CI:4x108-19x108). Conclusions: Are risk factors of believing thinner: males, being in a group of schoolchildren and overweight-obesity. Conversely, are risk factors of believing fatter: females, teen and above all, be thin. Introducción: La autoimagen es importante en el comportamiento y el estilo de vida de los niños y adolescentes. El análisis de la autoimagen que tienen y de los factores que pueden influir en su distorsión, puede ser utilizado para prevenir problemas de obesidad y anorexia. El principal objetivo de este estudio fue analizar los factores de riesgo que pueden contribuir a una distorsión de la autoimagen. Material y Métodos: Se estudiaron 659 niños y adolescentes en dos entornos socioeconómicos (bajo y medio-alto), midiendo altura y peso, calculando IMC y percentil según edad y sexo. Se preguntó a los sujetos cómo se consideraban: delgada/o, peso adecuado o gorda/o. Resultados: El porcentaje de sobrepeso-obesidad fue mayor en escolares (41,8% niños; 28,7% niñas) que en adolescentes (30,1% y 22,2% respectivamente), sin diferencias entre entornos socioeconómicos. El análisis de regresión logística multinomial ofreció un riesgo de creerse más delgados mayor (p=0,000) entre los chicos OR=2,19(IC95%:1,43-3,37), escolares (p=0,000) OR=2,42(IC95%:1,56-3,76), y mucho menor (p=0,000) entre normonutridos OR=0,08(IC95%:0,05-0,13), sin diferencias según estatus socioeconómico. El riesgo de creerse más gordo fue al contrario, menor (p=0,000) entre chicos OR=0,28(IC95%:0,14-0,57), escolares (p=0,072) OR=0,54(IC95%:0,27-1,06), y muchísimo mayor entre delgados (p=0,000) OR= 9x108(IC95%: 4x108-19x108). Conclusiones: Son factores de riesgo de creerse más delgados el sexo masculino, estar en grupo de escolares y en sobrepeso-obesidad. Contrariamente, son factores de riesgo de creerse más gordos el sexo femenino, adolescente y sobre todo estar delgados.
