INTRODUÇÃO: Bulimia nervosa (BN) é um transtorno alimentar caracterizado pelas recorrências de compulsões alimentares, seguido de métodos compensatórios inadequados para perder peso. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi realizar uma revisão narrativa literária sobre o uso de antidepressivos no tratamento da BN. METODOLOGIA: Trata-se de uma revisão literária narrativa, sendo que a pesquisa bibliográfica da literatura foi realizada nas bases de dados, UpToDate, PubMed e Scielo. RESULTADOS: A fluoxetina 60 mg/dia é o antidepressivo considerado como abordagem padrão para o tratamento da BN, apresentando efeito positivo no tratamento dessa condição na maioria dos estudos analisados. Outros medicamentos antidepressivos, como citalopram, sertralina e a fluvoxamina, também se mostraram eficazes e são considerados tratamento de segunda linha. Efeitos adversos relatados nos estudos incluem insônia, tremor, tonturas, náusea, ansiedade e diminuição da libido. DISCUSSÃO: Fluoxetina é a primeira linha de tratamento para BN, mas existem restrições. Nesses casos, troca-se a medicação pelas de segunda linha. Caso o paciente não obtenha resultados satisfatórios com a primeira e segunda linhas, existe a terceira linha, sendo composta por: antidepressivos tricíclicos, inibidores da monoaminoxidase (IMAO) e moduladores da serotonina. CONCLUSÃO: Conclui-se que a eficácia do uso de antidepressivos para o tratamento de BN é promissora, em especial, a fluoxetina.

A case report of a patient with pseudo bulbar affect previous treatments included haloperidol (10mg), Inosina pranobex (600mg), clozapine (600mg), olanzapine (20mg), carbamazepine (200mg), paroxetine (20mg), phenobarbital (100mg) and topiramate (50mg), all suspended at August 2016, with current use of quetiapine (700mg) Chlorpromazine (600mg) (+ 200mg on demand of aggression), clonazepam (4 mg), valproate 2500 mg, propranolol (40mg). that was successful treated with off label treatment (dextromethorphan plus quinidine). Previous Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale and Clinical Global Impression- Improvement was applied after and before treatment with dextromethorphan (20mg) plus fluoxetine (20 mg, further increased to 40 mg). Previous Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale BPRS score 56 points and Clinical Global Impression-Severity (CGI-S) Score was 6 (severely ill). The addition of dextromethorphan (20mg) and fluoxetine (20 mg, further increased to 40 mg), allowed clear improvement of pathological crying and outbursts, with BPRS decrease of 8 points and Clinical Global Impression-Improvement (CGI-I) 2 (much improved) – especially pertaining to PBA related symptoms and aggressive behavior. There were no noticeable side-effects. This case report shown an interesting clinical response. It’s could be a great alternative in treatment of pseudobulbar affect symptoms. Even though an only case and a great clinical study be necessary.

espanolEl objetivo de este estudio es dar a conocer el rango de potencia relacionado con la dosificacion del ISRS (inhibicion selectiva de la recaptacion de serotonina) fluoxetina y su mecanismo de accion como agente capaz de inducir efecto analgesico y ansiolitico en raton hembra cepa CD-1 (25-39 kg). Los datos obtenidos mostraron que las dosis antidepresivas 16, 32, 64 mg/kg (i.p.) presentan efecto analgesico y una respuesta ansiolitica, sin resultado significativo en el modelo de memoria espacial, pero con una disminucion en la actividad realizada en la memoria de trabajo para la dosis de 64 mg/kg (i.p.). Esto evidencia que fluoxetina puede orientar mayor eficacia a dosis con efecto antidepresivo e indica un efecto analgesico y ansiolitico sin producir cambio en la actividad motora del raton. EnglishThe main objective of this paper is to establish the potency range and the action mechanism of selective serotonin reuptake inhibition (SSRI) fluoxetine on female CD-1 mice (25-39 kg). Our results indicated that fluoxetine´s antidepressant doses of 16 mg/kg (i.p.), 32 mg/kg (i.p.), and 64 mg/kg (i.p.) had an analgesic and anxiolytic effect without significant results on the spatial memory test. Reduced activity on memory work on specific activities was only observed with a dose of 64 mg/kg (i.p.). This is evidence to suggest that fluoxetine can be more effective with doses that showed an antidepressant effect. It also indicates that fluoxetine can have an analgesic and anxiolytic effect without reducing motor activity on mice. The maximum dose tested on this study showed variations on motor activity of mice suggesting that SSRI fluoxetine can have sedative effects

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Opioids are drugs used to relieve pain, but may cause increased pain sensitivity, known as opioid-induced hyperalgesia, which adversely affects pain management. This study aimed to check if fentanyl, an opioid widely used in the clinical practice, produces hyperalgesia that can be attenuated by duloxetine, fluoxetine and pregabalin. METHODS: Thirty male Wistar rats were divided into six groups. The animals in group 1 received 1mL of 0.9% saline solution intraperitoneally (IP) and gavage; group 2 received fentanyl at a dose of 100µg.kg-1 IP and 0.9% saline solution per gavage; groups 3, 4 and 5 received fentanyl at the dose of 100µg.kg-1 IP, and gavage with duloxetine, 40mg.kg-1, fluoxetine, 40mg.kg-1 and pregabalin, 40mg.kg-1, respectively. Under general anesthesia with isoflurane, all animals were submitted to plantar surgical incision. The application of Von Frey filaments assessed hyperalgesia at the second hour, one, three, five and seven days after treatment. RESULTS: Two hours after the procedure, no differences were observed between G1 and G2, although G3, G4, and G5 showed less hyperalgesia. On day one and day three, a greater hyperalgesic effect was observed in G2 when compared to G1, G3, G4 and G5. On day five, there was a hyperalgesic effect on G2, and on day seven, there were no differences among the groups. CONCLUSION: The results suggest that fentanyl induces hyperalgesia and the efficacy of duloxetine, fluoxetine, and pregabalin in reducing it. RESUMO JUSTIFICATIVA E OBJETIVOS: Opioides são fármacos utilizados para o alívio da dor, porém, podem causar aumento da sensibilidade dolorosa, denominada hiperalgesia induzida por opioides, que afeta negativamente o tratamento da dor. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar se o fentanil, opioide amplamente utilizado na prática clínica, produz hiperalgesia que pode ser atenuada pela duloxetina, fluoxetina e pregabalina. MÉTODOS: Trinta ratos Wistar machos, foram divididos em 6 grupos. No grupo 1, os animais receberam 1mL de solução fisiológica (SF) a 0,9% por via intraperitoneal (IP) e por gavagem; no grupo 2, fentanil na dose de 100µg.kg-1 IP e SF a 0,9% por gavagem; nos grupos 3, 4 e 5 os animais receberam fentanil na dose de 100µg.kg-1 IP e, por gavagem, receberam respectivamente duloxetina, 40mg.kg-1, fluoxetina, 40mg.kg-1 e pregabalina, 40mg.kg-1. A avaliação da hiperalgesia e sua atenuação foi feita pela aplicação de filamentos de Von Frey, na 2ª hora e nos dias 1, 3, 5 e 7, após o tratamento. RESULTADOS: Na 2ª hora pós-procedimento não foram observadas diferenças entre G1 e G2, entretanto, G3, G4 e G5 se mostraram com menor hiperalgesia. No 1º e 3º dias foi observado maior efeito hiperalgésico em G2 quando comparado com G1, G3, G4 e G5. No 5º dia foi observado efeito hiperalgésico no G2, e no 7º dia não houve diferenças entre os grupos. CONCLUSÃO: Os resultados sugerem que o fentanil induz hiperalgesia e eficácia da duloxetina, fluoxetina e pregabalina na sua redução.

Here we show that the novel object recognition test can discriminate between high (HRN, neophobic) and low (LRN, neophilic) novelty responders in zebrafish populations. Especially when we observe the latency to the first entry in the novel object zone, zebrafish did not maintain these behavioral phenotypes in sequential tests and only the HRN group returned to their initial responsive behavior when exposed to fluoxetine. Our results have important implications for behavioral data analysis since such behavioral differences can potentially increase individual response variability and interfere with the outcomes obtained from various behavioral tasks. Our data reinforce the validity of personality determination in zebrafish since we show clear differences in behavior in response to fluoxetine.

Neste trabalho, foram avaliadas 14 amostras de fluoxetina comercializadas por 13 estabelecimentos diferentes da rede de farmácias magistrais em Belo Horizonte/MG. A amostragem obtida representa 47,0% do total de 30 unidades de preparação distintas na cidade e corresponde a cerca de 180 pontos de venda. Foram realizadas análises de determinação de peso, identificação, teor de princípio ativo e uniformidade de doses unitárias. As análises foram realizadas pela Fundação Estadual Ezequiel Dias (Funed/MG) com base nas metodologias descritas nas farmacopeias de referência. Foram observadas irregularidades em algumas amostras como na rotulagem e ensaio de teor. Foi também investigada a presença e concentração de metais e outras impurezas inorgânicas através da técnica de análise por ativação neutrônica (AAN). Os resultados mostraram também a presença de elementos como As, Br, Co, Cr e Hf que, mesmo em baixas concentrações, podem ser prejudiciais à saúde humana se consumidos de forma constante durante longo prazo.

Objective: To identify neurocognitive and sociodemographic variables that could be associated with clinical response to three modalities of treatment for depression, as well as variables that predicted superior response to one treatment over the others. Method: The present study derives from a research project in which depressed patients (n=272) received one of three treatments – long-term psychodynamic psychotherapy (n=90), fluoxetine therapy (n=91), or a combination thereof (n=91) – over a 24-month period. Results: Sociodemographic variables were not found to be predictive. Six predictive neurocognitive variables were identified: three prognostic variables related to working memory and abstract reasoning; one prescriptive variable related to working memory; and two variables found to be moderators. Conclusions: The results of this study indicate subgroups of patients who might benefit from specific therapeutic strategies and subgroups that seem to respond well to long-term psychodynamic psychotherapy and combined therapy. The moderators found suggest that abstract reasoning and processing speed may influence the magnitude and/or direction of clinical improvement.

Background: To date, no biomarker has been able to predict antidepressant response at an early blockade of norepinephrine or serotonin uptake. The transient nocturnal increase in plasma melatonin levels is upregulated by blocking these uptakes. The aim of this study was to test whether fluoxetine increase in urinary 6-sulfatoxymelatonin (aMT6s) is an indicator of serotonin uptake blockade. Methods: A total of 20 women (35–45 years of age) recruited from the community had a diagnosis of major depressive disorder confirmed by the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV. Depressive symptoms were evaluated by the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Participants were instructed to take 20 mg of fluoxetine every morning. Every 4 weeks, the dose could be increased by 20 mg until symptom remission. The concentration of aMT6s was evaluated in overnight urine samples collected 1 day before and 1 day after the first fluoxetine dose. Results: An increase in aMT6s correlated to a decrease in BDI score evaluated on day 45 (ρ = −0.67, p = 0.024) was observed. Conclusions: Nocturnal increase in urinary aMT6s after the first day of medication use links the early mechanism of action of fluoxetine to its clinical output 45 days later. Thus, the relationship between urinary aMT6s excretion 1 day before/1 day after is a biomarker for predicting clinical output earlier, reducing illness burden and health care costs.

No presente trabalho, os efeitos comportamentais e imunomoduladores da fluoxetina foram avaliados num modelo animal de depressão, o nado forçado. Nesse, o comportamento de flutuar é sensível a antidepressivos e é usado como índice de desespero comportamental. Foram utilizados dois grupos experimentais, sendo um grupo controle tratado com salina e outro grupo teste tratado com a fluoxetina, ambos administrados por via intra-peritoneal. Os animais foram tratados três vezes ao dia por 12 dias. Adicionalmente, a resposta imune humoral a uma imunoestimulação (hemácias de carneiro) foi avaliada. A fluoxetina provocou aumento no tempo em flutuação, queda na massa corporal e menor produção total de anticorpos. Os resultados indicam uma modulação simultânea do comportamento e do sistema imunológico pela fluoxetina. In the present study, behavioral and immunomodulatory effects of fluoxetine were evaluated with the forced swim test, an animal model of depression. In this model, floating behavior is responsive to antidepressants and is used as a behavioral index of despair. During 12 days, three times a day, two groups were treated intraperitoneally with saline or fluoxetine. Additionally, the humoral immune response to immunostimulation (sheep red blood cells) was evaluated. The animals treated with fluoxetine floated longer, showed decreases in body mass and had lower total production of antibodies. The results indicate simultaneous modulation of behavior and antibody production by fluoxetine.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate morphological alterations in rat fetuses treated with fluoxetine and imipramine during the "critical" period of gestation. METHOD: Fifteen female rats were separated into three groups (n = 5) and treated with 10 mg/kg/day of test substances on the ninth, tenth and eleventh day of pregnancy: G1, fluoxetine; G2, imipramine hydrochloride; G3 (control), saline. On day 21, cesarean sections were performed to release the fetuses, whose bodies were weighed and macroscopically analyzed. The placenta was also weighed. The fetuses were then fixed and their encephala removed and weighed. Sections of the frontal lobe were taken for histological neuron counting. RESULTS: G1 and G2 showed the highest fetal body weight. Placental weight showed statistical differences (p < 0.01): G1 weighed more than G2 and G3. Otherwise, G2 exhibited the highest encephalon weight, statistically differing from G3 (control) and fluoxetine-treated G1 (p < 0.01). However, G1 did not statistically (p > 0.01) differ from the control group. G3 showed the highest number of neurons per area when compared to G1 and G2 (p < 0.01). CONCLUSION: The use of antidepressants in rats caused an increase in fetal weight and a decrease in the number of fetal frontal lobe neurons, thus suggesting that the use of antidepressants by pregnant women can induce depression in fetuses due to alterations in their neural development. OBJETIVO: Avaliar as possíveis alterações ocorridas em nível macroscópico e microscópico de fetos de ratas submetidas ao tratamento com fluoxetina e imipramina durante o período "crítico" da gestação. MÉTODO: Quinze ratas, posteriormente ao acasalamento, foram divididas em três grupos experimentais (n = 5): G1, tratadas com 10mg/kg/dia de fluoxetina; G2, tratadas com 10mg/kg/dia de cloridrato de imipramina, e G3 (controle), tratadas com 10mg/kg/dia de solução fisiológica a 0,9%, no 9º, 10º e 11º dias de prenhez das ratas. Posteriormente à cesária, no 21º dia de prenhez, analisou-se macroscopicamente o peso fetal e placentário. Os fetos foram fixados e houve a remoção do encéfalo para pesagem e preparação das lâminas do tecido neuronal para contagem de neurônios do lobo frontal. RESULTADOS: O G1 e G2 apresentaram maior peso fetal. O G1 apresentou maior peso placentário, diferindo do G2 e G3 (p < 0,01). De forma diferente, o G2 possuiu maior peso encefálico, diferindo do G3 e G1 (p < 0,01). G1 não diferiu estatisticamente do grupo controle (p > 0,01). O G3 exibiu maior número de neurônios, por área, do lobo frontal em relação a G1 e G2 (p < 0,01). CONCLUSÃO: A adoção dos antidepressivos causou, nos fetos, aumento de peso e redução da contagem de neurônios do lobo frontal, sugerindo que a indicação de antidepressivos às gestantes pode induzir a depressão nos fetos por alterações em seu neurodesenvolvimento.

OBJECTIVE: The present study aims to analyze the effect of pharmacological treatment for panic disorder on temperament and character dimensions and to compare the effect of imipramine and fluoxetine on this outcome. METHOD: Temperament and character dimensions were evaluated in panic disorder patients before and after six months of pharmacological treatment with imipramine and fluoxetine, using the Temperament and Character Inventory-Revised. Patients were randomized between groups and both (patient and investigators) were blinded to the intervention drug. Furthermore, 34 non-panic controls answered the revised Temperament and Character Inventory through an Internet survey. RESULTS: Panic disorder patients showed higher scores for Harm Avoidance and lower scores for Persistence, Self-Directedness, and Cooperativeness than controls at baseline, but only the low Persistence value remained different from controls after treatment. Responder patients presented significant reduction in Harm Avoidance scores and a significant increase in Self-Directedness scores, whereas non-responders showed a significant increase of Harm Avoidance levels. Fluoxetine and Imipramine showed similar effects on the revised Temperament and Character Inventory dimensions. CONCLUSION: High Harm Avoidance and low Self-Directedness, Persistence, and Cooperativeness are associated with panic disorder. Treatment of acute panic disorder symptoms lead to the reduction of Harm Avoidance and to an increase in Self-Directedness scores. However, there was no difference between treatment with fluoxetine and imipramine for the effect on the revised Temperament and Character Inventory dimensions. OBJETIVO: O presente estudo tem como objetivo analisar o efeito do tratamento farmacológico do transtorno do pânico nas dimensões de temperamento e caráter, comparando os efeitos das medicações imipramina e fluoxetina neste desfecho. METODOLOGIA: As dimensões de temperamento e caráter foram avaliadas em pacientes com transtorno do pânico antes e depois de seis meses de tratamento com imipramina ou fluoxetina, utilizando-se o "Temperament and Character Inventory- Revised" (TCI-R). O estudo foi randomizado e duplo-cego. Além disso, 34 controles sem transtorno do pânico responderam ao TCI-R via internet. RESULTADOS: Pacientes com transtorno do pânico apresentaram maior pontuação para "Harm Avoidance" e menor pontuação para "Persistence", "Self-Directedness" e "Cooperativeness" que os controles antes do tratamento, mas apenas "Persistence" manteve a diferença após o tratamento. Pacientes respondedores apresentaram redução significativa da pontuação para "Harm Avoidance" e aumento significativo para "Self-Directedness" após o tratamento, enquanto os não-respondedores mostraram aumento significativo na pontuação para "Harm Avoidance". A fluoxetina e a imipramina apresentaram efeitos semelhantes nas dimensões do TCI-R. CONCLUSÃO: Alta pontuação para "Harm Avoidance" e baixa para "Persistence", "Self-Directness" e "Cooperativeness" estão associados ao transtorno do pânico. O tratamento sintomático do transtorno do pânico leva a redução da pontuação para "Harm Avoidance" e aumento de pontuação para "Self-Directedness". No entanto, não há diferença entre os efeitos da imipramina e da fluoxetina nestas dimensões do TCI-R.

The presence of pharmaceutical products in the aquatic environment has been reported in several studies. However, the impact of these drugs on living organisms is still uncharacterized. Here, we investigated the effects of acute exposure to either diazepam or fluoxetine on the stress response in Danio rerio. We showed that diazepam and fluoxetine inhibited the stress axis in zebrafish. Intermediate concentrations of diazepam suppressed the stress response as measured by cortisol levels, whereas fluoxetine inhibited cortisol increase at concentrations similar to those found in the environment. These data suggest that the presence of psychoactive drugs in aquatic ecosystems could cause neuroendocrine dysfunction in fish.

Dolichandrone falcata Seem., Bignoniaceae, is a deciduous tree commonly known as Medshingi in local areas of Toranmal region of Maharashtra, India. Its bark paste is applied on fractured or dislocated bones, used as a fish poison; bark juice is used in cases of menorragia and leucorrhoea. The leaves of the plant have afforded chrysin-7-rutinoside. The present study was carried out to investigate the anxiolytic effects of methanol extract (DFBM), ethyl acetate extract (DFBEA) and isolated compound DFB (V+VI) of D. falcata stem-bark using animal models. Anxiolytic effects were studied by elevated plus maze (EPM) and marble burying test (MBT) assay. The crude dried DFBM and DFBEA extract was prepared in doses of 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg whereas DFB (V+VI) compound was prepared in doses of 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg and were administered orally to mice for evaluation of anxiolytic activity. OBJETIVO: Investigar o uso da fluoxetina na cidade de Santo André, SP, por meio de coleta e análise das receitas especiais (RE) prescritas por médicos e arquivadas nas farmácias e drogarias daquela cidade. MÉTODOS: Foram coletadas as receitas especiais retidas durante os meses de agosto do ano de 2005 a julho de 2006, em 13 farmácias de manipulação e em 27 drogarias em diferentes regiões de Santo André. Cada receita especial foi analisada em relação à presença de fluoxetina, em associação ou não a outros princípios ativos, e o sexo do(a) paciente foi anotado. RESULTADOS: Foram analisadas 39.782 RE - 16.124 coletadas das farmácias magistrais e 23.658 das drogarias. Desses totais, 10.919 prescrições continham fluoxetina - 9.259 provenientes das farmácias magistrais (84,8%) e apenas 1.660 (15,2%) das drogarias. As prescrições de fluoxetina eram predominantemente destinadas a mulheres (79,8%). Na imensa maioria das RE, a fluoxetina foi prescrita em associação com um grande número de outras substâncias ativas, inclusive anfetaminas anoréticas, chegando a mais de dez outras em quase a metade das prescrições. Esse tipo de prescrição múltipla, principalmente para mulheres, é comparado com as prescrições de fórmulas magistrais para emagrecer, muito utilizadas no Brasil. CONCLUSÃO: Os dados obtidos sugerem que a utilização de fluoxetina teria um fim estético (perda de peso), e não um fim terapêutico (tratamento de depressão). Discute-se a relação risco-benefício desse possível uso, que poderia ser classificado de inadequado dado as conhecidas reações adversas da fluoxetina e a sua interferência no sistema citocromo P450.

PURPOSE: To compare the effects of the antidepressant drugs duloxetine and fluoxetine on depressive behaviors in rodents. METHODS: Eighteen male Wistar rats were given systemic injections of duloxetine, fluoxetine, or saline prior to a Forced Swimming Test (FST). Immobility and number of stops were measured. RESULTS: Rats given injections of fluoxetine displayed significantly less immobility (p = 0.02) and fewer stops than the control group (p = 0.003). Duloxetine significanlty reduced the number of stops (p = 0.003), but did not effect immobility (p = 0.48). CONCLUSION: Duloxetine and fluoxetine reduced depressive behaviors in the Forced FST. However, our findings suggest that fluoxetine is more effective than duloxetine. OBJETIVO: Comparar o efeito antidepressivo da droga cloridrato de duloxetina com a fluoxetina. MÉTODOS: O teste do nado forçado, teste comportamental que avalia a atividade antidepressiva em ratos, foi utilizado em 18 ratos Wistar, machos adultos, divididos em três grupos iguais: duloxetina, fluoxetina e controle. RESULTADOS: Os dados do teste do nado forçado foram analisados pelo teste One-way ANOVA, Mann Whitney e Kruskall-Wallis.Houve diferença significativa (p = 0,003) entre o número de paradas dos grupos duloxetina e fluoxetina e o grupo controle. CONCLUSÃO: A duloxetina e a fluoxetina tiveram frequência de paradas similares. A fluoxetina mostrou ser mais efetiva que a duloxetina no teste do nado forçado em ratos.

OBJETIVE: Hypericum perforatum has demonstrated antidepressant efficacy when compared to placebo, but comparisons with other antidepressants remain controversial. We assessed the efficacy and safety of Hypericum perforatum in comparison with fluoxetine, in a 8-week double-blind trial in patients with mild to moderate depression. METHOD: Seventy-two outpatients were randomly assigned to receive Hypericum perforatum 900 mg/day, fluoxetine 20 mg/day or placebo. Efficacy measures included the HAM-D21 scale, the Montgomery-Åsberg Rating Scale, and the Clinical Global Impression. Safety was assessed with the UKU Side Effect Rating Scale. RESULTS: Intention-to-treat analysis showed no differences between the mean scores of the three groups. In the analyses of observed cases, patients receiving Hypericum perforatum had the lowest remission rates (12%, p = 0.016) compared to fluoxetine (34.6%) and placebo (45%). CONCLUSIONS: Hypericum perforatum was less efficacious than both fluoxetine and placebo. Both drugs were safe and well-tolerated. Larger trials are needed for definite conclusions. Avaliamos a eficácia e a tolerabilidade do Hypericum perforatum em comparação com fluoxetina e placebo, em um estudo duplo-cego de oito semanas em pacientes com depressão leve a moderada. MÉTODO: Setenta e dois pacientes ambulatoriais receberam aleatoriamente doses fixas de Hypericum perforatum 900 mg/dia, fluoxetina 20 mg/dia ou placebo. Medidas de eficácia incluíram a HAM-D21, Escala de Montgomery-Asberg e Impressão Clínica Global. A segurança foi avaliada por meio da Escala UKU de Efeitos Colaterais. RESULTADOS: A análise por intenção de tratar não demonstrou diferenças entre os três grupos. Na análise por casos observados, os pacientes que receberam Hypericum perforatum tiveram as menores taxas de remissão (12%, p = 0,016), em comparação à fluoxetina (34,6%) e ao placebo (45%). CONCLUSÕES: Hypericum perforatum foi menos eficaz que fluoxetina e placebo. Ambas as drogas foram seguras e bem toleradas. Estudos conclusivos com uma maior amostra são necessários.

A depressão é uma doença grave, com repercussões importantes no humor e na cognição. Tratamentos farmacológicos e/ou psicoterápicos estão comumente indicados. O presente estudo objetivou avaliar e comparar a cognição de pacientes deprimidos antes e após 12 meses de tratamento com fluoxetina ou psicoterapia psicodinâmica. Cento e oitenta pacientes foram divididos em dois grupos, e avaliados por meio da WAIS-III. Os resultados mostraram uma melhora significativa em diferentes subtestes da WAIS-III. A MANOVA indicou que há uma diferença significativa entre os grupos nas pontuações médias obtidas na reavaliação 12 meses após o início dos tratamentos. Os resultados sugerem que a psicoterapia psicodinâmica e a terapia com fluoxetina agem de forma diferente na cognição de pacientes deprimidos. Depression is a serious illness with an important impact on humor and cognition. Pharmacological treatments and/or psychotherapy are commonly indicated. The present study aimed to compare cognition in adult patients diagnosed with depression before and after 12 months of treatment with fluoxetine or psychodynamic psychotherapy. One hundred and eighty depressed patients were divided into two treatment groups, and cognitively assessed with the WAIS-III. Results showed a significant improvement in different subtests of WAIS-III. MANOVA indicated that there is a significant difference between groups in the mean scores of the post-treatment assessment. The results suggest that psychodynamic psychotherapy and fluoxetine act differently on cognition of depressed patients.
