Pneumonia is a kind of inflammatory disease characterized by pathogen infection of lower respiratory track. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is the main bioactive component of Gram-negative bacteria responsible for inflammatory response. Recently, coniferyl aldehyde (CA) has been reported to play a crucial role because of its anti-inflammatory activity. However, the effect and mechanisms of CA in ameliorating symptoms of acute pneumonia remain unknown. Evaluating and identifying the value and exploring the mechanisms of CA on LPS-mediated WI-38 apoptosis and inflammation were the aims of this study. Here, CCK-8 cell viability assay was applied on WI-38 after treatment with or without LPS at different doses of CA to verify that CA can increase LPS-induced cell viability. Then, quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and enzyme-linked-immunosorbent serologic assays (ELISA) suggested that LPS treatment dramatically decreased the expression level of IL-10 (anti-inflammatory factor) while strikingly increasing the expression levels of IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α (tumor necrosis factor-α; proinflammatory factor) whereas CA treatment attenuates LPS-induced inflammation of WI-38. Further, flow cytometry and Western blot assay verified that LPS treatment dramatically promoted apoptosis of WI-38 cells, while administration of CA notably inhibited apoptosis of WI-38 cells. Moreover, the Western blot assay hinted that CA could inactivate LPS-induced JAK2–STAT1 signaling pathway. These findings indicated that CA could alleviate LPS-mediated WI-38 apoptosis and inflammation injury through JAK2–STAT1 pathway in acute pneumonia.

Por se tratar de uma avaliação abrangente, a identificação das medicações, antissépticos e outras substâncias usadas em cada região, registros detalhados e nomenclatura padronizada são pontos fundamentais para a obtenção de dados epidemiológicos mais fidedignos sobre a anafilaxia perioperatória.

Objective Allergic sensitization is one of the key components for the development of allergies. Polysensitization seems to be related to the persistence and severity of allergic diseases. Furthermore, allergic sensitization has a predictive role in the development of allergies. The aim of this study was to characterize the pattern of sensitization of atopic patients treated at different pediatric allergy referral centers in Brazil. Methods A nation-wide transversal multicenter study collected data on patients attended in Brazil. Peripheral blood samples were collected to determine the serum levels of allergen-specific IgE. If allergen-specific IgE was higher than 0.1 kUA/L, the following specific components were quantified. Results A total of 470 individuals were enrolled in the study. Mite sensitization was the most frequent kind in all participants. A high frequency of sensitization to furry animals and grasses featured in the respiratory allergies. Regarding components, there was a predominance of sensitization to Der p 1 and Der p 2. It has been verified that having a food allergy, atopic dermatitis, or multimorbidity are risk factors for the development of more severe allergic disease. Conclusion Studies on the pattern of allergic sensitization to a specific population offer tools for the more effectual prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of allergic diseases. Sensitization to dust mites house was the most prevalent in the evaluated sample. High rates of sensitization to furry animals also stand out. Patients with food allergy, atopic dermatitis, or multimorbidity appear to be at greater risk for developing more severe allergic diseases.

The clinical history is of importance in the investigation of allergic diseases but does have limitations. Many allergic conditions will be over-diagnosed if anamnesis alone is used for diagnostic criteria. Serum total immunoglobulin E (TIgE) quantification, as well as panels containing allergens prevalent in the studied population, may serve as screening tests and facilitate the diagnosis of allergic disease or its exclusion. We assessed the positivity of two versions of these tests, Phadiatop Europe® (PhEU) and Phadiatop Infant® (PhInf), as well as total IgE (TigE) values in patients with a medical diagnosis of allergic disease and non-allergic individuals. Methods A cross-sectional study performed in eleven Brazilian pediatric allergy centers with patients divided into groups according to the primary condition and a group of assessed control subjects. They were submitted to TIgE measurement and screening tests (PhEu and PhInf). Results TIgE mean serum levels were significantly higher among allergic patients, especially those with asthma/rhinitis or atopic dermatitis. The positivity of the screening tests, considering the total population, was 63.8% for PhEU and 72.6% for PhInf. These increased when we evaluated only the allergic subjects. The concordance index of the two tests was Kappa = 0.7 and higher among those of greater age. Conclusions In the assessed population, there were significantly higher levels among those with positive screening tests and PhInf showed better performance in the identification of sensitized individuals, regardless of age. This is the first study to evaluate Phadiatop and Phadiatop Infant in the same population.

Introduction Chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) affects approximately 1% of the population, affecting both children and adults. Omalizumab (Oma) is a therapeutic option for patients with refractory forms of CSU. Objectives To determine the effectiveness and safety of Oma in the treatment of CSU. Methods Systematic review (Cochrane Collaboration methodology) of randomized clinical trials comparing Oma to placebo in refractory CSU treatment. The search is based on MEDLINE; EMBASE, Central Cochrane Library, and LILACS. The outcomes evaluated were: control of the illness, adverse events, and quality of life. Results Of the 848 identified studies 13 were selected for further review and six were included in the meta-analysis. For all outcomes, high-quality evidence has confirmed that Oma is effective in the treatment of CSU. The dosage of 300 mg/month achieved better results; namely a significant reduction in pruritus, papules, and urticaria activity, as well as an increase in the number of patients with a controlled condition, improvement in the quality of life and no differences in adverse events compared to the placebo. Conclusions High-quality evidence demonstrates that Oma is effective and safe in the treatment of CSU refractory to therapy with H1 antihistamines.

INTRODUCTION: Allergic rhinitis is considered the most prevalent respiratory disease in Brazil and worldwide, with great impact on quality of life, affecting social life, sleep, and also performance at school and at work. OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy and safety of two formulations containing mometasone furoate in the treatment of mild, moderate, or severe persistent allergic rhinitis after four weeks of treatment. METHODS: Phase III, randomized, non-inferiority, national, open study comparing mometasone furoate in two presentations (control drug and investigational drug). The primary endpoint was the percentage of patients with reduction of at least 0.55 in nasal index score (NIS) after four weeks of treatment. Secondary outcomes included total nasal index score score after four and 12 weeks of treatment; individual scores for symptoms of nasal obstruction, rhinorrhea, sneezing, and nasal pruritus; as well as score for pruritus, lacrimation, and ocular redness after four and 12 weeks of treatment. The study was registered at clinicaltrials.gov with the reference number NCT01372865. RESULTS: The efficacy primary analysis demonstrated non-inferiority of the investigational drug in relation to the control drug, since the upper limit of the confidence interval (CI) of 95% for the difference between the success rates after four weeks of treatment (12.6%) was below the non-inferiority margin provided during the determination of the sample size (13.7%). Adverse events were infrequent and with mild intensity in most cases. CONCLUSION: The efficacy and safety of investigational drug in the treatment of persistent allergic rhinitis were similar to the reference product, demonstrating its non-inferiority. Resumo Introdução: A rinite alérgica é considerada a doença respiratória mais prevalente no Brasil e em todo o mundo, com grande impacto na qualidade de vida; além de, afetar a vida social, o sono e também o desempenho na escola e no trabalho. Objetivo: Comparar a eficácia e segurança de duas formulações contendo furoato de mometasona no tratamento da rinite alérgica persistente leve, moderada ou grave por um período de quatro semanas. Método: Trata-se de um estudo nacional aberto de fase III, randomizado, de não inferioridade de comparação do furoato de mometasona em duas apresentações (medicação de controle e fármaco sob investigação). O ponto final primário foi o percentual de pacientes com redução mínima de 0,55 no escore de índice nasal (EIN) após quatro semanas de tratamento. Os desfechos secundários foram: escore NIS total após 4 e 12 semanas de tratamento; escores individuais para sintomas de obstrução nasal, rinorréia, espirros e prurido nasal, bem como escores para prurido, lacrimejamento e hiperemia conjuntival após 4 e 12 semanas de tratamento. O estudo foi registrado em clinicaltrials.gov com o número de referência NCT01372865. Resultados: A análise de eficácia primária demonstrou não inferioridade do fármaco sob investigação em relação à medicação de controle, visto que o limite superior do intervalo de confiança (IC) de 95% para a diferença entre os percentuais de sucesso após quatro semanas de tratamento (12,6%) situava-se abaixo da margem de não inferioridade proporcionada durante a determinação do tamanho da amostra (13,7%). Eventos adversos foram pouco frequentes e de leve intensidade na maioria dos casos. Conclusão: A eficácia e a segurança de um fármaco experimental no tratamento da rinite alérgica persistente foram similares às do produto de referência, o que demonstrou sua não inferioridade.

Background PIDs are a heterogeneous group of genetic illnesses, and delay in their diagnosis is thought to be caused by a lack of awareness among physicians concerning PIDs. The latter is what we aimed to evaluate in Brazil. Methods Physicians working at general hospitals all over the country were asked to complete a 14-item questionnaire. One of the questions described 25 clinical situations that could be associated with PIDs and a score was created based on percentages of appropriate answers. Results A total of 4026 physicians participated in the study: 1628 paediatricians (40.4%), 1436 clinicians (35.7%), and 962 surgeons (23.9%). About 67% of the physicians had learned about PIDs in medical school or residency training, 84.6% evaluated patients who frequently took antibiotics, but only 40.3% of them participated in the immunological evaluation of these patients. Seventy-seven percent of the participating physicians were not familiar with the warning signs for PIDs. The mean score of correct answers for the 25 clinical situations was 48.08% (±16.06). Only 18.3% of the paediatricians, 7.4% of the clinicians, and 5.8% of the surgeons answered at least 2/3 of these situations appropriately. Conclusions There is a lack of medical awareness concerning PIDs, even among paediatricians, who have been targeted with PID educational programmes in recent years in Brazil. An increase in awareness with regard to these disorders within the medical community is an important step towards improving recognition and treatment of PIDs.

We have evaluated the prevalence and the characteristics of exercise-induced asthma (EIA) in a group of 71 patients with a prior history of mild, moderate or severe asthma (42 males and 29 females), aged 6-16 years-old. Measurements of the forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) were obtained before and at regular intervals up to 8 hours following exercise. As a control, the same patients were evaluated at similar time intervals on another day when they had not been submitted to an exercise challenge. Using pre-exercise FEV1 values as the reference, 32 patients (45.1%) had a positive exercise challenge, defined as a fall in FEV1 value equal to or greater than 15% from baseline following exercise. Among the patients with a positive exercise challenge, the majority (23/32, 71.8%) had an immediate response alone, with no significant changes in FEV1 within the 8-hour follow-up. However, a subgroup of patients (9/32, 28.1%) had both an immediate and a late-phase response to exercise. During the control day, no significant fall in FEV1 were observed. In keeping with previous investigations, no correlation was found between a history of EIA and a positive exercise challenge in the present study. Positive exercise challenges were found more frequently among patients with moderate and severe asthma than patients with mild asthma.

OBJETIVO: Avaliar o conhecimento médico sobre as imunodeficiências primárias na cidade de São Paulo (SP). MÉTODOS: Um questionário de 14 questões sobre as imunodeficiências primárias foi aplicado a médicos que trabalhavam em hospitais gerais. Uma das questões apresentava 25 situações clínicas que poderiam ou não estar associadas às imunodeficiências primárias, e a porcentagem de respostas apropriadas gerou um indicador de conhecimento. RESULTADOS: Participaram do estudo 746 médicos, dentre os quais 215 pediatras (28,8%), 244 cirurgiões (32,7%) e 287 clínicos (38,5%). Cerca de 70% dos médicos responderam ter aprendido sobre as imunodeficiências primárias na graduação ou na residência médica. O atendimento a pacientes que usam antibióticos com frequência foi relatado por 75% dos médicos, mas apenas 34,1% já haviam investigado algum paciente e 77,8% não conheciam os dez sinais de alerta para as imunodeficiências primárias. O indicador de conhecimento obtido apresentou uma média de 45,72% (±17,87). Apenas 26,6% dos pediatras e 6,6% tanto dos clínicos quanto dos cirurgiões apresentaram indicador de conhecimento de pelo menos 67% (equivalente à resposta apropriada em dois terços das situações clínicas). CONCLUSÃO: Há uma deficiência no conhecimento médico das imunodeficiências primárias na cidade de São Paulo, mesmo entre os pediatras, a despeito do maior contato com o tema nos últimos anos. A melhora da informação sobre as imunodeficiências primárias entre a comunidade médica é um importante passo para o diagnóstico e o tratamento precoces dessas doenças. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate medical knowledge of primary immunodeficiency in the city of São Paulo (SP). METHODS: A 14-item questionnaire about primary immunodeficiency was applied to physicians who worked at general hospitals. One of the questions presented 25 clinical situations that could be associated or not with primary immunodeficiency, and the percentage of appropriate answers generated a knowledge indicator. RESULTS: Seven hundred and forty-six participated in the study, among them 215 pediatricians (28.8%), 244 surgeons (32.7%), and 287 clinicians (38.5%). About 70% of the physicians responded that they had learned about primary immunodeficiency in graduate school or in residency training. Treatment of patients that use antibiotics frequently was reported by 75% dos physicians, but only 34.1% had already investigated a patient and 77.8% said they did not know the ten warning signs for primary immunodeficiency. The knowledge indicator obtained showed a mean of 45.72% (±17.87). Only 26.6% if the pediatricians and 6.6% of clinicians and surgeons showed a knowledge indicator of at least 67% (equivalent to an appropriate answer in two thirds of the clinical situations). CONCLUSION: There is a deficit in medical knowledge of primary immunodeficiency in the city of São Paulo, even among pediatricians, despite having greater contact with the theme over the last few years. The improvement of information on primary immunodeficiency in the medical community is an important step towards the diagnosis and treatment process of these diseases.

Fifty-eight children with perennial allergic rhinitis from university centers (SP, RJ, PR—Brazil) were divided into two groups of 29 children each and received, in a double-blind test, astemizole (A) or dexchlorpheniramine (D) for 28 days. Age, sex, time of disease, and characteristics of the initial physical examination were similar in both groups. The improvement of coryza and nasal and eye itching was similar in both groups. Significantly better responses were observed in the children treated with A in relation to sneezing, watering eyes, and nasal obstruction. The increase of appetite and weight was similar in groups A and D. Drowsiness was significantly higher in group D. There was no difference in blood and urine analyses in both groups. In the global evaluation done by the physicians, group A improvement was significantly better on the 21st day of treatment. We conclude that there was a better therapeutic response, with longer duration of action and less drowsiness, in the children treated with astemizole.

Patients during a mild to moderate acute attack of asthma (FEV1: 50 - 80% of predicted) were treated with Salmeterol MDI - 50mcg or Rotadisk - 50mcg or Salbutamol (MDI -200mcg). The children were followed by Spirometry, measuring FEV1 (basal) and after treatment: at 30 minutes, 60 minutes and thereafter every 60 minutes until 780 minutes, if the patients maintained the FEV1 above 80% of the predicted value and/or an increment of 20% in the VEF1 basal value. The Salmeterol group showed a significant bronchodilation at 60 minutes which was maintained in half of the patients up to 9 hours. This was not observed in the Salbutamol group: the peak bronchodilatation was observed at 30 minutes and the bronchodilation effect was observed in half of the patients up to 6 hours. There were no significant differences between both presentations of Salmeterol. This drug allowed a prolonged bronchodilator effect and is, according to the several consensus on management of asthma, an adequate option in the treatment of moderate to severe asthma.

Forty seven children (6-14 years), with an acute mild or moderate attack of asthma (clinical score 3 or FEV150% of the predicted), were treated with terbutaline sulphate, by inhalation route with a dry powder inhaler (Turbuhaler - 0,5 mg - group T; N=27, or by a nebulizer 1% solution-in saline-compressed air (6 l/min.) group S; N=20. The children were evaluated at 5, 15, 25 and 30 minutes after the initial treatment. In both groups a significant fall of the clinical score (starting at 15 minutes) (p0.05) and a significant improvement of the FEV(1), VC and FEF25-75% (starting at 5 minutes), were observed (p0.05). There were no significant changes in heart rates, respiratory rates and blood pressure (p0.05). At the end of the first treatment, the number of patients with a FEV(1)80% was similar in both groups (T = 13/27 and S = 10/20). The same treatment was repeated, and all the children showed a marked improvement, except for one boy of the group T was hospitalized. In conclusion, children with mild or moderate acute attacks of asthma can be treated up to a week with an inhalation of dry powder, resulting in adequate bronchodilatation without important side effects.

S U N D A Y 445 Impact of Hazard Control over Risk Assessment on the Allergic Consumer: A FARRP study M. Costello, S. Taylor, J. O. B. Hourihane, A. DunnGalvin; University College Cork, Cork, IRELAND, University of Nebraska, Nebraska, NE. BACKGROUND: We have previously shown that uncertainty is a core theme in living and coping with food allergy (FA). Concerns about labelling result in anxiety/avoidant behaviour.and also frustration/risky behaviours. AIM: To ascertain parents understanding and acceptance of defined thresholds and risk stratification in the context of food labelling. METHOD: Focus groups were held with parents of children aged 5-16 years. Data was analysed using grounded theory and major themes were extracted. RESULTS: 30 participants took part in three focus groups. 24% had more than one child diagnosed with food allergy. 60% of the children had had a food allergic reaction within the last two years that required the administration of the epipen. Four major themes emerged from the analysis: maintaining a balance between risk and normality; measuring risk, feeling informed and in control; importance of getting the message right. Parents overwhelmingly want the provision of defined thresholds, linked to risk stratification, by clinicians and by food manufacturers. CONCLUSION: The regulatory acceptance of accessible and interpretable food allergen thresholdsmay reduce parental uncertainty and promote better quality of life for families living with food allergy.Parents understand risk cannot be eliminated but feel that it can be minimised and it can be measured.

Introduction: A combination of antihistamines and oral corticosteroids is often used to treat acute symptoms of allergic rhinitis. Objective: To evaluate safety and efficacy of desloratadine plus prednisolone in the treatment of acute symptoms of children (2-12 years) with allergic rhinitis, and to compare it to dexchlorpheniramine plus betamethasone. Methods: Children with moderate/severe persistent allergic rhinitis and symptomatic (nasal symptoms score [0-12] ≥ 6) were allocated in a double-blind, randomized fashion to receive dexchlorpheniramine plus betamethasone (n = 105; three daily doses) or desloratadine plus prednisolone (n = 105; single dose followed by two of placebo) for 7 days. At the beginning and end of the evaluation, the following were obtained: nasal symptoms score, extra nasal symptoms score, peak nasal inspiratory flow, blood biochemistry, and electrocardiogram. Ninety-six children of the dexchlorpheniramine plus betamethasone group and 98 of the desloratadine plus prednisolone group completed the protocol. Results: The two groups were similar regarding initial and final nasal symptoms scores, extra nasal symptoms scores and peak nasal inspiratory flow. A drop of 76.4% and 79.1% for nasal symptoms score, 86.0% and 79.2% for extra nasal symptoms score, as well as an increase of 25.2% and 24.3% for peak nasal inspiratory flow occurred for those treated with desloratadine plus prednisolone and dexchlorpheniramine plus betamethasone, respectively. There were no significant changes in blood chemistry. Sinus tachycardia was the most frequent electrocardiogram change, but with no clinical significance. Drowsiness was reported significantly more often among those of dexchlorpheniramine plus betamethasone group (17.14% × 8.57%, respectively). Conclusion: The desloratadine plus prednisolone combination was able to effectively control acute symptoms of rhinitis in children, improving symptoms and nasal function. Compared to the dexchlorpheniramine plus betamethasone combination, it showed similar clinical action, but with a lower incidence of adverse events and higher dosing convenience. Resumo Introdução: A associação entre anti-histamínicos e corticosteroides orais é frequentemente empregada no tratamento de sintomas agudos de rinite alérgica. Objetivo: Avaliar a segurança e eficácia da associação desloratadina + prednisolona no tratamento de sintomas agudos de crianças (2-12 anos) com rinite alérgica e compará-las com as da associação dexclorfeniramina + betametasona. Método: Crianças com rinite alérgica persistente moderada/grave e sintomáticas (escore de sintomas nasais [0-12] ≥ 6) foram alocadas de modo duplo-cego e randômico para receber dexclorfeniramina + betametasona (n = 105; três doses diárias) ou desloratadina + prednisolona (n = 105; dose única seguida por duas de placebo) por 7 dias. No início e no fim da avaliação foram obtidos: escore de sintomas nasais, escore de sintomas extranasais, pico de fluxo inspiratório nasal, bioquímica sanguínea e eletrocardiograma. Do total, 96 crianças do grupo dexclorfeniramina + betametasona e 98 do grupo desloratadina + prednisolona concluíram o protocolo. Resultados: Os dois grupos foram iguais com relação ao escore de sintomas nasais, escore de sintomas nasais extranasais e pico de fluxo inspiratório nasal iniciais e finais. Observou-se queda de 76,4% e 79,1% nos escores para escore de sintomas nasais, de 86,0% e 79,2% para escore de sintomas extranasais, assim como incremento de 25,2% e de 24,3% para o pico de fluxo inspiratório nasal para os grupos desloratadina + prednisolona e dexclorfeniramina + betametasona, respectivamente. Não houve alterações significativas da bioquímica sanguínea. Taquicardia sinusal foi a alteração do eletrocardiograma mais encontrada, mas sem significância clínica. Sonolência foi significantemente mais referida entre os tratados com dexclorfeniramina + betametasona do que entre os desloratadina + prednisolona (8,57% × 17,14%, respectivamente). Conclusão: A associação desloratadina + prednisolona foi capaz de controlar efetivamente os sintomas agudos de rinite em crianças, melhorou sintomas e a função nasal. Na comparação com a associação dexclorfeniramina + betametasona, demonstrou ação clínica semelhante, mas com menor incidência de eventos adversos e maior comodidade posológica.

Introdução: A asma é caracterizada por um processo inflamatório crônico que está associado ao desenvolvimento da hiperresponsividade brônquica (HRB). O exercício físico regular proporciona inúmeros benefícios aos pacientes com asma porém, os efeitos do treinamento físico na HRB permanecem pouco compreendidos. Objetivo: Avaliar o efeito do treinamento físico aeróbio na hiperresponsividade brônquica, inflamação pulmonar, controle clínico e fatores relacionados à qualidade de vida de pacientes adultos com asma persistente moderada a grave. Métodos: Cinquenta e oito adultos com asma moderada a grave foram divididos aleatoriamente, em dois grupos: Controle (GC, n=28) e Treinado (GT, n=30). Os pacientes do GC foram submetidos a um programa educacional e a um programa de exercícios respiratórios, enquanto os pacientes do GT foram submetidos a todos os procedimentos do GC e a um programa de condicionamento físico aeróbio. A hiperresponsividade brônquica foi avaliada através do teste de broncoprovocação inespecífica com histamina antes e após a intervenção. Nestas ocasiões, todos os pacientes também realizaram, análise do escarro induzido e da fração exalada de óxido nítrico, espirometria, teste ergoespirométrico e responderam aos questionários de controle clínico, fatores de saúde relacionados à qualidade de vida (FSRQV) e níveis de depressão. Além disso, foi coletada uma amostra do sangue venoso dos pacientes para quantificação do IgE total e de IgE específica. Resultados: Após três meses de intervenção, os pacientes do GT aumentaram 1 dupla dose de concentração (dd) (1 dd; 0,3-1,7 dd, 95% CI) (p < 0,05) enquanto o GC (0,06 dd; -0,6dd a 0,7 dd, 95% CI) não apresentou mudança significativa na hiperresponsividade brônquica. A inflamação pulmonar reduziu apenas nos pacientes do GT que apresentaram níveis elevados de eosinófilos (> 3%) e FeNO (> 26ppb) (p < 0,05). O condicionamento aeróbio melhorou os FSRQV, controle clínico da asma e níveis de depressão (p < 0,05). Conclusão: Nossos resultados demonstram que o treinamento aeróbio tem um efeito anti-inflamatório importante na asma e deve ser considerado como um tratamento complementar para o manejo da doença Introduction: Asthma is characterized by a chronic inflammatory process that is associated with the development of bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR). Regular exercise provides numerous benefits in patients with asthma; however, the effects of exercise training on BHR remain poorly understood. Objective: To evaluate the effect an aerobic training on bronchial hyperresponsiveness, pulmonary inflammation, clinical control and health related quality of life (HRQoL) in adults patients with moderate to severe asthma. Methods: Fifty-eigth patients adults with moderate to severe asthma were randomly assigned into two groups: Control (CG, n = 28) and Trained (TG, n = 30).The GC patients undertake an educational program and performed breathing exercises, while the TG patients underwent the same procedures than CG plus an aerobic training program. Bronchial hyperresponsiveness was assessed by nonspecific bronchial provocation test with histamine before and after the intervention. On these occasions, all patients also performed induced sputum analysis and fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO), spirometry, cardiopulmonary exercise testing and fulfilled questionnaires to evaluate clinical control test, HRQoL and depression levels. In addition, blood samples were collect in order to quantify total serum immunoglobulin (IgE) and specific IgE. Results: After 3 months of intervention, the TG increased 1 double dose of concentration (dd) (0.3 to 1.7 dd, 95% IC) and CG did not change significantly on bronchial hyperresponsiveness 0.06 dd (-0.6 to 0.7 dd, 95% IC) (p < 0.05).The pulmonary inflammation reduced only in the GT patients with high levels of eosinophils (> 3%) and FeNO (> 26ppb) (p < 0.05). Aerobic training also improved HRQoL, clinical control and depression levels (p < 0.05).Conclusion: Our results demonstrate that aerobic training exercise has a significant anti-inflammatory effect on asthma and should be considered as a complementary treatment for disease management
