A quantitative descriptive study aimed to evaluate the physical structure accessibility of gynecological nursing clinics and their bathrooms in basic health units for users with motor disabilities. A checklist tool/instrument was applied for analyzing 16 items in the bathroom and four in the nursing clinic. 157 basic health units were evaluated. In the nursing clinic, counters and tables (79.6%) were accessible, but stretchers (93%), seats (93.6%) and doors (87.3%) were inaccessible; moreover, 17.8% of the units examined proved totally inaccessible. In the bathroom, the items with the best evaluation were the height of the toilet flusher (47%) with operation by slight pressure (44.6%) and the wall-mounted sink (42.7%). Bathroom doors and turning area/space for wheelchairs were inaccessible. No bathroom reached full accessibility, and 31.2% were entirely inaccessible. Non-compliance was evident of the standard 9050:2004 of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards. Raising the awareness of health and engineering professionals is recommended to learn technical accessibility standards and implement them.

This study aimed to analyze maternal deaths and present the Maternal Mortality Ratio in the city of Fortaleza, in the Northeast region of Brazil, from 2008-2010. This is a descriptive study. Data collection occurred in the Mortality Information System and in the maternal death investigation files of the Local Health Department. Fifty-six maternal deaths were investigated with a Maternal Mortality Ratio of 39.75/100,000 live births. The prevalent age group was 20-29 years (50.0%). Hypertensive disorders (50.0%) were the most prevalent causes of direct obstetric deaths. As for indirect obstetric deaths, infectious and parasitic diseases (28.1%) prevailed. Nearly all deaths were considered preventable or possibly preventable (91.1%). Thus, it can be assumed that most deaths could have been avoided by ensuring the quality of prenatal care.

It is aimed at analyzing the concept of educational technology, produced by nursing, applied to the patient. Rodgers´ Evolutionary Method of Concept Analysis was used, identifying background, attributes and consequential damages. 13 articles were selected for analysis in which the background was identified: knowledge deficiency, shortage of nursing professionals' time, to optimize nursing work, the need to achieve the goals of the patients. Attributes: tool, strategy, innovative approach, pedagogical approach, mediator of knowledge, creative way to encourage the acquisition of skills, health production instrument. Consequences: to improve the quality of life, encouraging healthy behavior, empowerment, reflection and link. It emphasizes the importance of educational technologies for the care in nursing, to boost health education activities.

Objetivou-se analisar a acurácia das características definidoras do diagnóstico de enfermagem “Conhecimento Deficiente” em usuárias de AOC. Estudo transversal realizado com 97 mulheres em idade fértil em centro de saúde da família do nordeste brasileiro. A coleta de dados ocorreu de setembro a outubro de 2011, por meio de entrevista para identificação das características definidoras e dos fatores relacionados da Taxonomia II da NANDA-I 2012. O diagnóstico de enfermagem em questão apresentou prevalência de 58,8%; a característica definidora “seguimento inadequado de instruções” (57,7%) e o fator relacionado “interpretação errônea de informações” (58,8%) foram os mais prevalentes. “Seguimento inadequado de instruções” apresentou maior sensibilidade, 96,61(88.46 - 99.07), elevado valor preditivo positivo (VPP=98,28) e elevado valor preditivo negativo (VPN=95,35). Todas as características definidoras apresentaram a mesma especificidade, 97,62(87.68 - 99.58). Conclui-se que as características definidoras estudadas apresentaram sensibilidade, especificidade, valores preditivos positivos e negativos altos para o diagnóstico de enfermagem analisado.
