Low back pain is a common and significant health issue worldwide, affecting about 80% of the population at some point in their lives. It is caused by a variety of factors, both spinal and extra-spinal. The use of imaging techniques, such as MRI, has revolutionized the diagnosis and understanding of low back pain. In recent years, there has been increased attention on the assessment of paraspinal muscles, which play a crucial role in spinal stability. A new study in the Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging explores the use of magnetic resonance elastography, a technique that measures the stiffness of muscles, in assessing lumbosacral musculature. This research provides important insights into the reproducibility of this technique and its potential role in diagnosing and understanding low back disorders. [Extracted from the article]
