André Brouillet’s (1857-1914) famous group tableau ‘A Clinical Lesson at La Salpêtrière’ (French: Une leçon clinique à la Salpêtrière) is possibly the most celebrated painting in the history of neurology. His depiction of one of Jean-Martin Charcot’s legendary “Tuesday Lessons” includes portraits of not only one of the master’s most famous patients, but also of his pupils, the heirs to the founder of modern neurology. However, the painter himself has long been neglected, and even his other paintings on medical subjects are little acknowledged. The authors aim to bring attention to Brouillet’s life and times, as well as the remainder of his notable works; and in giving a proper context to the famous painting, neurologists today may be able to appreciate better the early history of our field and its cultural impact. RESUMO A famosa pintura ‘Une leçon clinique à la Salpêtrière’, de André Brouillet’s (1857-1914), é possivelmente a representação mais célebre da história da Neurologia. Seu retrato de uma das lendárias “lições de terça-feira” dirigidas por Jean-Martin Charcot inclui ainda não apenas uma das pacientes mais famosas do mestre como também seus pupilos, os fundadores da Neurologia moderna. Entretanto, o pintor propriamente dito é ainda negligenciado, e mesmo outras pinturas suas sobre temas médicos são pouco reconhecidas. Os autores trazem à atenção a vida e época de Brouillet, bem como o restante de seus outros trabalhos notáveis; dando contexto apropriado à pintura, neurologistas atuais podem compreender melhor a própria história de nossa especialidade e seu impacto cultural.

In this paper authors argue the impact of culture on motivational processes through various identities. The paper combines the most recent findings from cultural, identity and motivation theories in order to determine cultural impact on each of the elements of motivational cycle. By analyzing each theory, applicable analogous similarities are compiled to distinguish important factors and determine psychological processes that are relevant for understanding cultural impact on human motivation and behavior. Results derived from compilation are used to create implications for multicultural organizational environment. This paper concludes that among others, culture has substantial impact on individual's motivation and behavior which creates specific psychological and cognitive patterns that serve as guidance in future situations that individual encounters. Such patterns become integrated in individual and applied to various social groups and environment. Furthermore, paper provides implications stressing the importance of implementation of organizational identity, comprehensive and transparent communication and verification of social, work-related and personal identities of employees. This paper has limitations due to its theoretical framework. Since this topic implies broad interdisciplinary research, additional theoretical and empirical contributions are required in order to provide more detailed insight and implications. However, this paper contributes to the existing theories by providing compilation of their common elements from motivational perspective and arguments for stated implications

Furniture, the necessity of human life, could be investigated in terms of historical social life, geographical regions, and technological developments. Furniture, named according to its purpose and place of use, has also been an indicator of the status and taste of consumers. Furniture has shown influences on developments in every field of society throughout history, merging with the concepts of production and consumption and carrying numerous innovations until today. In addition to social developments, furniture has been influenced by cultural impacts. Furniture is used in various places such as homes, restaurants, cafes, and gardens. In this study, wooden tables were selected within the scope of research and were limited to cafes and restaurants as the place of use. The preference for the sizes and shapes of tables changes according to users, design, and capacity of the spaces in Turkey, similar to the world in general. A total of 30 cafes and restaurants from the Turkey/Istanbul/Yenikoy region and the USA/Oklahoma State/Stillwater region were investigated in this study. The shapes, dimensions, table-top materials, foot material, and construction types of the tables in these places were the subject of investigation. It was observed that products with similar functions at a similar type of place have significant differences in terms of design and use of material depending on cultural factors in the case of selected tables. The results obtained in this study support the view that culture has a significant impact on furniture design. In a table sample with highly characteristic similar features and usage function, it was estimated that 33.4% of the samples differed significantly due to cultural impact.

In this study, three claims/arguments regarding the emergence and function of the Eurovision Song Contest were put forward and tried to be grounded. First, the contest emerged as a tool for Western Europe to influence Eastern Europe culturally in the Cold War but it didn’t become an ideological conflict area of East-West. Second, the contest functioned as a stage of expressing the political problems/situations that countries experience within themselves or with each other in the Cold War era and aftermath. Third, although Turkey took place in the Western Europe side in the Cold War, this contest made Turkey feel non-European while having a different identity. In this context, the subject is discussed from the historical perspective with the assumption that the subject of history is unique. The study focused primarily on the concept of the Cold War and the contest. Then, it was explained with the examples which political problems/situations different from the Cold War ideological conflict environment were brought up on the contest platform. Finally, it was emphasized that the contest contributed to “us vs them” dichotomy in Turkey against Europe, contrary to Eurovision’s aim to form/create a common European culture.

The use of multiple languages in movies often involves negative stereotyping of characters belonging to a minority represented in those films. This is the case with some Hollywood films in which Spanish is associated with exotic or dangerous characters, confirming persistently the dominant position of the English language. In the documentary 389 Miles: Living the Border (2009) the linguistic and cultural impact of migration is seen from quite a different perspective. Whereas most of the documentaries dealing with the Mexican-American border are predominantly in English, possibly with Spanish subtitles, or mainly in Spanish with English subtitles, in 389 Miles both languages are used equally. The narrator tells the story in English, but he uses both languages in the interviews. There are also a few characters who switch from English to Spanish. The aim of this article is threefold: in a first instance, it seeks to examine the documentary with the use of some basic concepts of Polysystem Theory. The second objective is to explore language diversity. In a third instance, this article aims to shed more light on two powerful Mexican symbols: viz. the Virgin of Guadalupe and the wrestler mask. The final objective is to find out how bilingualism in documentaries changes our perception on other cultures, border crossing and migration. This article narrates a story of cultural change caused by livelihood intervention in rural Bihar (India). It shows that the impact of Jeevika, a microcredit-based rural livelihood promotion project, goes beyond its call for promoting livelihoods. The article recognises the distinction between structural and cultural aspects of social change and holds that an important impact of Jeevika on rural women of Bihar has been the cultural loosening of the patriarchal noose over their necks. It argues that the sustainability of such an impact is, however, unlikely, as the structural bases of patriarchy, namely, family, caste, land and agriculture, remain largely unaffected. Moreover, the whole process is exogenous—a creation of programme intervention.

The purpose of this study was to examine and describe experiences and perceptions of speech-language pathologists (SLPs) serving children and families from culturally and linguistically diverse populations. Twenty SLPs were interviewed using an online audio platform regarding common practices, resources and supports, challenges, and communication. Participants' responses to the semi-structured questions were transcribed and analyzed to identify themes in experiences. Results suggested six overall themes including: considerations for assessment; cultural impact; linguistic access and barriers; professional preparedness; impact of COVID-19; and helpful tips and resources. The discussion includes recommendations and resources to address obstacles.

Germany nowadays is known as one of the most robust economies in Europe. Yet, at the beginning of 20th Century Germany, poverty became a severe problem that caused a social and cultural impact on the children. Positive self-esteem and resiliency in children were needed to cope with the situation. The roman titled Pünktchen und Anton, written in 1931 by Erich Kästner, describes the children’s life in Berlin dealt with the poverty problem. This research aims to see how self-esteem and resiliency in children described as a life tool for the first figure (Anton) who classified as an adversity child in the novel. This question is answered by using descriptive qualitative method and self-esteem theory by Nathaniel Branden. The result shows there is advocacy in describing a marginalized Anton to become a hero thank to his positive self-esteem (self-efficacy and self-respect). His positive self-esteem builts him to be resilient.

The aim of this study was to investigate the characteristics and effects of the mascots used in the Olympic Games and some important sports organizations. Literature was searched. The use of mascots in major events in sports arenas was officially at the 1966 Football World Championships and at the 1972 Munich Olympics. Then the mascot application is used in all Olympics and major sports organizations. At the Olympic Games and World Championships, mascots are used as various animal, human or object figures. In cities where sports organization will be organized, mascots are used to promote and publicize the streets before the organization starts. The mascots aim to entertain the audience before the competitions and during the waiting period between the competitions, to attract their interest and to make the fans love things, to make economic contributions and souvenirs. The majority of mascots are selected from animals. Mascots are identified with people who are cute, friendly, cheerful, sporty, helpful, and have similar positive personality traits. Conclusion: In the Olympic Games and some major sports organizations, animal-based figures were generally used for Mascot. Human Figures are also included. These mascots were used by football fans in the stands in different ways. Cultural impact and simplicity in the choice of mascot for major sports events planned in Turkey is recommended.

On March 31, 1860, Abraham Lincoln waited in the studio of Leonard Wells Volk as a plaster mold hardened around his face and head. After one hour, Volk removed the mold; he later repeated the process for Lincoln’s hands. The resulting life casts elicited profound emotional reactions in those who saw them. Augustus Saint-Gaudens recognized and capitalized on their invaluable status as candid indexes of Lincoln’s likeness in his 1887 Chicago monument, Abraham Lincoln: The Man. In the words of sculptor Lorado Taft, “It does not seem like a bronze. . . . One stands before it and feels himself in the very presence of America’s soul.” It was also Saint-Gaudens who amplified the casts’ influence through the manufacture of a prized series of thirty-three bronze replicas. The actual and imagined characteristics of these casts—their sense of possessing a “soul,” and their physical manifestation of Lincoln’s touch—all warrant consideration of their place within the larger tradition of holy relics. This paper posits the Lincoln casts as “contact relics” and establishes the generative potential of such a numinous categorization for American audiences, especially in the wake of the Civil War. Volk’s direct impressions of Lincoln’s visage and hands provided the “blueprints,” so to speak, for an astonishingly wide variety of sculptural manifestations—from the iconic Lincoln Memorial (1920) by Daniel Chester French to Abraham Lincoln (1917) by George Grey Barnard. This essay argues that the cultural impact of this sculptural genealogy is largely indebted to the casts’ material substantiations of Lincoln’s bodily presence and touch. Indeed, by situating these objects between medieval and modern modes of viewing, it will become clear that the casts, as progeny of the original life molds, afforded an affective, even remedial, authenticity for subsequent Lincoln monuments in the American imagination.

This article discusses the Netflix recommendation system, expecting to understand these techniques as a part of the contemporary strategies for the reorganization of television and audiovisual. It renders problematic a technology indispensable to these suggestions: the tools for artificial intelligence, expecting to infer questions of cultural impact inscribed in this technique. These recommendations will be analyzed in their relationship with the formerly decisive form for the constitution of broadcast: the television flow. Estas recomendações serão analisadas em sua relação com a forma outrora decisiva para a constituição do broadcast: o fluxo televisivo. O texto investiga o sentido destas ferramentas tão influentes para definir uma televisão baseada na manipulação de acervos, e não na programação determinada previamente à transmissão do conteúdo. A conclusão explora as consequências destes arquivos, que concedem ao usuário uma sensação de escolha em tensão com o caráter mecânico destas imagens.

México es gobernado hace casi 70 años seguidos por el mismo partido, el Partido Revolucionario Institucional - PRI. El presente ensayo tiene el objetivo de discutir aspectos que llevaron al gobierno del PRI a adentrar los más profundos ejes del cotidiano de los ciudadanos mexicanos y cómo se mantuvo en el poder por tantas décadas, para esto, se analizan algunas de las estrategias de perpetuación de este partido, desde el uso de la violencia, hasta los medios más sutiles, como el control ideológico a través del discurso de la prensa y la difusión de material cinematográfico erótico influyendo en la dinámica cultural de este país, para esto se trae el ejemplo de la producción denominada Cine de Ficheras. Así, el presente artículo se propone analizar el impacto cultural de tales acciones en el marco de las relaciones cotidianas de dicho país.

This article discusses socio and cultural impact as an effect of the commercialization of Malang mask puppet in the era of globalization. Padepokan Seni Asmoro Bangun located at Kedungmonggo Hamlet Malang Regency modifies the art of Malang mask puppet in order to turn the function of traditional art from ritual to the commodity. This research method is qualitative by using observation, interviews, and documentary studies for data collection. The result shows that modification creates three impacts, social and cultural impacts, also the occurrence of new senses in terms of Malang mask puppet includes creativity, prosperity, education, aesthetic, conservation, and identity sense.

The article offers a detailed account of his life and work. Bolshakov began his career as a journalist, later turning to documentary and historical prose, and research of 19th c. enigmatic literary subjects. Special attention is devoted to Bolshakov’s professional ties with I. Andronikov, and the research of his oeuvre by his descendants T. Bolshakova and S. Lyubichankovsky.

This paper explores the role of the gender equality culture in cross-country gender commuting gap differences. To avoid inter-relationships between culture, institutions, and economic conditions in a simple cross-country analysis, we adopt the epidemiological approach. We merge data from the American Time Use Survey for the years 2006–2019 on early-arrival first-generation immigrants and second-generation Americans (U.S.-born children of immigrants) living in the United States with their corresponding annual country of ancestry's Gender Gap Index (GGI). Because all these individuals (with different cultural backgrounds) have grown up under the same laws, institutions, and economic conditions in the US, the gender differences among them in the time devoted to commuting to/from work can be interpreted as evidence of the existence of a cultural impact. Our results show that a culture with more gender equality in the country of ancestry may reduce the gender commuting gap of parents. Specifically, an increase of one standard deviation in the GGI (cultural proxy) increases women's daily commuting time relative to that of men by almost 6 min, a sizeable effect representing 26% of the standard deviation in the gender commuting gap across countries of ancestry. A supplementary analysis provides possible mechanisms through which culture operates and is transmitted. Our results are robust to the use of different subsamples, geographical controls, and selection into employment and telework.

An important influence on the foundation of the Dublin Gate Theatre in 1928 was the London Gate Theatre Studio. This chapter offers a historiographical survey concerning how the range of connections between these theatres have been treated by theatre commentators up to the present. Alongside this re-examination is a discussion of two other theatres that were also inspired by the London Gate, but established independently by the two London co-directors, Peter Godfrey and Velona Pilcher. Godfrey revived the early programming from London in 1943 at his ‘transplanted’ theatre in Hollywood, which also connected Los Angeles emigré culture back to Ireland. In London, Pilcher worked with a group of women associates to found a ‘new Gate’, the Watergate Theatre Club in 1949, which, with its avant-garde artistic ethos, had a cultural impact on the post-war London scene similar to the achievements of the earlier Gate theatres.

Glocalisation as a fallout of globalisation has received a lot of theoretical and empirical attention in the past few decades. Though the concept of globalisation was much evident and propagated through television in the streaming of foreign content on local networks, that content soon had to be given local flavours to captivate the local audience. Examining whether the global content just got a local twist or propagated an amalgamation amounting to novel cultures is the primary focus of the present study. Though it is evident that glocalised television content (intentionally or unintentionally) brought about significant changes in mass attitude, lifestyle and behavior, it needs to be empirically analysed and understood. Using a survey of 200 Indian-urban youth, the study measures the cultural impact of glocalised television content. This apart, the study analyses content and growth of television channels, viewing patterns of urban youth, the motivation behind using the medium, degree of attitudinal change and also the perceptional impacts on local cultural dimensions.

Conflicts surrounding the development of public lands are on the rise around the world. In the United States, where laws require federal agencies to conduct environmental and cultural impact assessments before approving or permitting development projects, conflicts still occur. This is especially true for projects that impact indigenous lands, resources, and communities, as the recent controversy surrounding Dakota Access Pipeline project so well illustrates. The purpose of this article is to highlight some of the problems I have encountered as an anthropologist conducting cultural impact assessments for federal agencies and for indigenous communities. Central among the problems encountered are the lack of awareness and appreciation for indigenous values by project proponents, agencies, and sometimes even the analysts hired to conduct the assessments. Recommendations for improving the quality of cultural impact assessments, which are based on the tenets of Action Anthropology, are explained.

While there have been a number of inquiries into agricultural production and amphora manufacture, discussion of the relationship between the two remains limited. A recent article by A. Bevan that examines the history of ‘containerization’ in the Mediterranean from the early Bronze Age to the 20th c. A.D. illustrates one side. It focuses on different manifestations of containers, emphasizing their cultural impact over the whole history of civilization in the region. While underscoring the importance of these transport vessels as packaging, particularly for liquid commodities, he provides limited consideration of the mechanisms behind the goods moving into these containers. Studies concerned with agricultural production are also on the rise, but scholars often limit the focus to amphorae. For instance, in analyzing capital investment in large-scale farms, A. Questions related to the process of “sovietization” of traditional Chuvash culture are considered. The novelty of the research is seen in the fact that the processes of “sovietization” common to all the peoples of the Soviet Union are examined on the specific material of the Chuvash history collected in the process of ethnographic expeditions. Examples of changing the Chuvash tradition under the influence of cultural impact on the part of the Soviet authorities are brought to consideration. The research shows the ways of penetrating the Soviet type of culture into the people's ritual life. The authors refer to the oikonyms of settlements, anthroponyms, oral folk art and objects of a materialized culture. This material reveals innovations in the everyday life of the ethnic group and the direction of transformation of the people's views. Attention is paid to Soviet symbolism, which has become part of the Chuvash culture. The definitions of the concepts “sovietization”, "materialized culture" are given. Particular attention is paid to the change of consciousness and traditional views, which is most clearly traced in the ritual and festive practice of the Chuvashes. It shown in the research that many objects of “sovietization” retain their relevance, being a part of everyday life or acting as museum exhibits. It is proved that the incorporation of new norms and way of life into the Chuvash tradition led to the formation of a different type of culture - the Soviet one, whose elements are preserved in the modern world.

The aim of this research is to understand the effect of product quality, medical price and staff skill on patient’s loyalty through cultural impact in medical tourism. In this study, three exogenous con-structs; namely product quality, medical price, and staff skill constructs were adopted to find their effects on patient’s loyalty. Meanwhile, the cultural impact is also adopted as a mediator construct. This study uses confirmatory approach as Covariance based Structural Equation Modeling (CBSEM) for testing the research hypotheses. The study explores inbound medical tourists loyalty from 324 respondents sampled comprised from different countries using stratified sampling. In terms of the direct effect, the method reveals that medical price and staff skill had positive significant effects on cultural impact and patient loyalty. In terms of indirect effect, the cultural impact mediates the relationships between product quality, medical price, and staff skills on patient’s loyalty.

With the rapid process of globalisation since the beginning of the 21st century, education and businesses face the challenge of intensifying multiculturalism. Higher education institutions in Europe are expected to play a particularly important role in facilitating this process. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between national culture and the preferred learning styles in the context of Higher Education as well as to find out specific patterns of cultural influence on individual learning preferences. It aims to identify practical implications for teachers and trainers in a culturally diverse environment. The empirical investigation was based on D. Kolb’s Experiential learning theory (ELT, Kolb 1984) and G. Hofstede’s (1980) work on National and Organisational dimensions of culture.

Leadership is critical to shaping and supporting individual teachers’ endeavors to integrate new programs into their teaching. To determine the necessary support, leaders must be aware of the needs of the school and its individuals. In understanding their needs, leaders can then support teachers through appropriate professional development and the discussion of identified issues to sustain improvements in teaching and learning throughout the school. Optimally, school leaders’ perception of need will match that of the teachers with whom they work. However, when perceptions do not match, there may be possible repercussions. In many societies, feeding one’s family in traditional and culturally appropriate ways is an essential part of being a mother and a wife. For migrants, food can play an important role in the maintenance of tradition, culture, and identity. This paper uses archival evidence, media coverage, memoirs, and oral histories to explore how policies associated with food in migrant hostels impacted on, and interfered with, the central role of food in the commensal circle of the family, and in the identification of migrant women as wives, mothers, and cultural gatekeepers. We identify three main factors that contributed to this negative cultural impact: the preparation of quintessentially ‘Australian’ menus that were alien to most of the population; communal dining arrangements which disrupted the basic social activity of commensality; and the fact that there was no need for women to prepare food for their families, and no opportunity to do so since having private cooking facilities was illegal. This article highlights the significance of family history research for memory studies. It provides an overview of the economic and cultural impact of this popular practice as well as a survey of the interdisciplinary field of research emerging around questions of genealogy and identity. It then develops a framework for engaging with the intergenerational, socially responsive memory work of family historians drawing from Paul Connerton’s typography of forgetting, Maurice Halbwach’s theory of social memory and Karl Mannheim’s notion of generations. The article grounds this framework with a case study about generational conflicts in Australian family histories, specifically around the shifting status of the convict ancestor, from a figure of secrecy and shame to one of pride and intrigue. I argue that family history research reveals the process by which generations have shaped memory, editing ‘the family narrative’ in response to changing social ideas about which kinds of identities and families hold value and promise. The names and dates on family trees therefore tell the stories not just of a discrete set of individuals but also of how social, national and generational interests interlink to produce the narratives we live by in both intimate and public spheres.

Retiree migration from northern, wealthier countries to more southerly destinations with lower living costs and a more pleasant climate has been mushrooming over the past five decades. In the latter decades of the twentieth century, the largest flow of international retirees was from northern Europe to warmer, less costly, countries such as Spain, Italy, Greece, and Malta (Williams et al. 1997). More recently, aging of the baby boomers in the United States and Canada – a cohort that in earlier years has tended to push social boundaries – has led to rapid growth of international retirement migration in the Western hemisphere, particularly to destinations in Latin America (Dixon et al. 2006). This generational characteristic of lifestyle innovation, combined with income limitations and financial insecurity, has resulted in increasing interest in “amenity retirement” abroad (Hayes 2015).

El aborto constituye uno de los temas más candentes de la actualidad en cuestiones de salud desde la dimensión bioética. Su estudio ha devenido en inquietante misión para estudiantes, profesionales y demás miembros de la comunidad médica, entre otros interesados, por su impacto psicosocial, mórbido y cultural. El propósito de este artículo-ensayo es realizar una reflexión crítica sobre el aborto en el Ecuador y su impacto desde el punto de vista bioético. A través de este texto se busca ampliar las nociones del lector respecto al aborto y llegar a cuestionarnos: ¿cómo fortalecer juicios bioéticos respecto al aborto?, ¿cuáles son los beneficios, prejuicios y contraindicaciones de este?, ¿se respeta o no la autonomía y beneficencia del paciente? y ¿cómo esto podría afectar la vida de los mismo?

Current coverage by Western media of Saudi Arabia and Saudi youth conveys a range of narratives, interpretations and misperceptions about the ongoing changes in the country. In particular, this study intends to highlight how the young leadership, led by Mohammed bin Salman, is implementing a new “cultural diplomacy” inspired by foreign consultancies and outlined in Saudi Vision 2030. However, it seems that the actual moral and cultural impact of such diplomacy on the young, educated, connected and often unemployed Saudi youth is not a matter of official concern. This study draws on official Saudi and non-Saudi documents, facts and figures, press reports and recent literature rather than on field research, in the belief that changeable expectations and aspirations expressed by Saudi youth in the MbS era may be influenced by readily accepted narratives forged both inside and outside the country.

Recent research reveals what we term a ‘discourse of certainty’ regarding an assumed predominant socio-economic and cultural impact of Late Bronze Age Cypriotes or Mycenaeans on the local peoples of Sardinia and/or Sicily and Italy, not least in terms of a systematic, seaborne trading network extending from the Cyprus to the Tyrrhenian Sea. ‘Minimalist’ approaches to such a phenomenon have a long and venerable but more limited pedigree. In this study, we question why minimalist views have been so summarily dismissed in much current literature that seeks to evaluate an eastern Mediterranean presence or influence in the central Mediterranean. We focus on Sardinia, and on the range of Cypriot or ‘Cypriot-type’ materials found there. We consider the nature of the Cypriot–Sardinian relationship, and suggest that we should decouple foreign objects from foreign agents. We question several of the perceived Cypriot influences on Sardinian artefacts, and consider possible alternative mechanisms and routes of exchange between the east and central Mediterranean. We outline and discuss the array of presumed or actual Cypriot artefacts found on Sardinia, and argue that these do not add up to a ‘significant’ corpus of Late Cypriot materials and connections.

Despite huge popularity and lasting cultural impact, reality television shows such asThe X Factor, a British music competition that started screening in 2004, are seen by many as a cultural nadir. However, in this article I argue that, while reading reality TV as an index of an increasingly superficial, market-based culture makes a great deal of sense, it doesn't tell the whole story. Using the particular music-based dramas ofThe X Factoras a case study, I explore ways in which this show and populist reality television in general might be seen to embody both the predicaments and potential pressure points of contemporary neoliberal culture.

본 연구는 예비유아교사의 문화적 공감능력과 다문화 감수성과 다문화 교육 이해 및 태도와의 상관관계를 분석하고 문화적 공감능력이 다문화 감수성과 다문화 교육 이해 및 태도에 미치는 영향력을 분석하고자 하였다. Y지역의 전문대 유아교육과에 재학 중인 165명의 예비유아교사를 대상으로 예비유아교사의 문화적 공감능력, 다문화 감수성, 다문화 교육 이해 및 태도에 관한 설문조사를 실시하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 21.0 프로그램을 사용하여 Pearson의 상관관계분석과 중 다회귀분석을 실시하였다. 자료 분석 결과 첫째, 예비유아교사의 문화적 공감능력과 다문화 감수성, 다문화 교육 이해 및 태도는 전체적으로 유의미한 정적 상관관계가 나타났다. 둘째, 예비유아교사의 문화적 공감능력은 다문화 감수성, 다문화 교육 이해 및 태도를 의미 있게 예측하는 변인으로 나타났다. 문화적 공감능력은 다양한 요인을 매개로 변화되므로 예비유 아교사의 문화적 공감능력을 높일 수 있는 요인들을 조사하고 교육 프로그램에 적용하는 후속연구가 요구된다. 문화적 공감 능력은 다문화 교육, 누리과정의 예술경험 영역에의 접근뿐만 아니라 교육과정 전반적인 부분에서 적용할 수 있도록 교수학 습방법에 대한 연구들이 이루어져야 한다.

Through ongoing circulation and discussion, personal narratives are continually resituated among different social bodies and institutions. The cultural impact of these stories then extends well beyond their initial publication. They perpetually renegotiate both the authors’ individual identities as well as their communal alliances. As an example, this essay considers how Richard Rodriguez’s autobiographical trilogy and its critical reception shifted not only his own self-description but also the boundaries of Chicano, Mexican-American, and queer communities. Personal writing becomes not a mere reflection of self, but a becoming—a way to write ourselves into other worlds and communities.

Over the past few decades political processes recognizing and broadening sexual and reproductive rights have produced a reaction from conservative sectors seeking to block those gains. Although the Catholic Church hierarchy and some Evangelical churches have led the opposition to these rights, various sectors of civil society have begun to foment resistance to pluralist sexual politics. In Argentina self-proclaimed pro-life nongovernmental organizations have become important in the local context, using channels legitimized by contemporary democracy. While they initially devoted themselves primarily to the issue of abortion through activities associated with assistencialism and cultural impact, their actions since the 1990s have diversified, entering into the politico-institutional field and aiming at other issues associated with the country’s sexual policy. The movement and religion overlap at many levels and are separate in others. The complexity of the relationship between them requires rethinking of the normative frameworks through which progress on sexual and reproductive rights in Latin America is usually theorized. The separation of religion and politics under the paradigm of laicism can be insufficient to guarantee sexual pluralism in our societies. En las últimas décadas, los procesos políticos por el reconocimiento y ampliación de los derechos sexuales y reproductivos han generado la reacción de sectores conservadores que buscan obstaculizar dichas conquistas. Si bien la jerarquía católica y algunas iglesias evangélicas han protagonizado el rechazo a estos derechos, distintos sectores de la sociedad civil han comenzado también a activar una resistencia a las políticas sexuales pluralistas. En Argentina las organizaciones no-gubernamentales autodenominadas pro-vida han adquirido relevancia en el contexto local, utilizando los canales legitimados por la democracia contemporánea. Mientras las primeras se abocaron centralmente a la temática del aborto desde acciones asociadas al asistencialismo y al impacto cultural, a partir de los noventa sus acciones se han diversificado, entrando al campo político-institucional y orientándose a otros temas asociados a la política sexual del país. Este movimiento y la religión se superponen en muchos niveles y se separan en otros. La complejidad que reviste su relación implica repensar los marcos normativos mediante los cuales se ha solido teorizar el avance en los derechos sexuales y reproductivos en América Latina. La separación de la religión y la política bajo el paradigma de la laicidad puede resultar una estrategia insuficiente para garantizar el pluralismo sexual al interior de nuestras sociedades.

Christian Dahl: “Battle scenes in the Elizabethan theater”This article analyses the widespread use of staged battle in Elizabethan theater by use of data extracted from Folger Library’s Digital Anthology of Early English Drama. Between 1576 and 1616, hundreds of battle scenes were produced on English stages but although a substantial number is still available for study, only few scholars have recognized their significance. The many battle scenes both attest to the Elizabethans’ vivid interest in history and to the cultural impact of England’s increasing military engagement on the Continent and in Ireland at the end of Elizabeth’s reign. It is often assumed that histories and battle scenes were particularly popular in the 1590’ies and then fell out of fashion early in the 17th century, but the article demonstrates that staged war remained a frequent occurrence in the first two decades of the century and never disappeared entirely. The article discusses visual and, in particular, acoustic representation of warfare based on the evidence of surviving plays and other documents. The article will also (very) briefly sketch the narrative development of battle scenes that took place in the 1590ies.

Memes influence the behaviours, perceptions and actions of the people they spread to, both consciously and unconsciously. The production of memes and memetic behaviours are dominated by a relatively small number of highly productive online communities. The link between these small but influential communities, the cultural impact they have on the internet, and the activities of those using those facets to further a political strategic agenda that must be investigated. The dynamics of these communities must be understood, and effectively incorporated into a united strategy/doctrine model for both Information Warfare and War.

Мета роботи. Дослідити внесок Г. Скупинського в українську та світову музичну культуру, виявити та усунути прогалини в дослідженні життєвого шляху та творчої діяльності голлівудського композитора. Методологія. Застосовані методи історіографічного, біографічного, порівняльного та контекстуального аналізу. Зокрема, біографічний метод дозволив виявити та усунути прогалини у життєвому та творчому шляху Г. Скупинського в Україні (на Буковині), прослідкувати зміну творчих орієнтирів митця після його переїзду до США. Історіографічний метод прислужився в аналізі суспільного та культурного значення творчості композитора на батьківщині та в еміграції, а порівняльний і контекстуальний методи допомогли укласти результати дослідження у панораму історико-культурного й музикознавчого портрету Г. Скупинського. Наукова новизна. Дослідження розкриває невідомі сторінки історії становлення легендарних музичних колективів "Червона Рута", "Смерічка", показує роль Г. Скупинського у цьому процесі, вперше описується його творчість, основану на українському національному колориті буковинських музичних мотивів. Висновки. Аналіз наявної літератури у вигляді спогадів, окремих наукових розвідок та документальних даних, матеріалів у місцевій пресі показує важливість розуміння фігури Гамми Скупинського в процесах прихованого культурного розвитку мистецтва та музики в радянський період. Оскільки музичне мистецтво потребує реалізації в реципієнта й не може функціонувати саме у собі, як, скажімо, література, Гамма Скупинський став відомим за кордоном, у Канаді та США, будучи українцем в душі, однодумцем з українськими композиторами «материкової України». Створення «світу українства» є важливим фактором для реалізації зовнішніх відносин України, що забезпечує позитивний міжнародний взаємовплив, розвиваючи економічний та культурний потенціал., The purpose of the research is to investigate the contribution of H. Skupynsky in Ukrainian and world music and to identify and to eliminate gaps in the study of life and creative activity of the Hollywood composer. Methodology. Methods of historiographical, biographical, comparative and contextual analysis have been applied. In particular, the biographical method allowed revealing and eliminating the gaps in the life and creativity of H. Skupynsky in Ukraine (in Bukovina) and helped to follow the change of the artist's creative orientation after his move to the United States. The historiographical method was used for the analysis of the social and cultural significance of the composer's work in his homeland and in emigration, and the comparative and contextual method helped to conclude the research results in the panorama of the historical, cultural and musicological portrait of H. Skupynsky. Scientific novelty consists in the fact that this research reveals the unknown historycal pages of the formation of such legendary musical groups as "Chervona Ruta" and "Smerichka", shows the role of H. Skupynsky in this process and for the first time describes his work, based on the Ukrainian national specific of the Bukovinian musical motifs. Conclusions. The analysis of the special literature reveals the importance of comprehension of the figure of Hamma Skupynskyi in the processes of hidden cultural development of art and music during the Soviet period. As music art need to be realized through a recipient and cannot exist by itself, as for example literature, Hamma Skupynskyi became famous abroad, in Canada and USA, being Ukrainian in his heart, a soul-mate with the Ukrainian composers of the “continent Ukraine”. Creation of the world of “Ukrainianity” is a significant factor for the implementation of foreign relationships of Ukraine, providing a positive international mutual influence and developing economic and cultural potential., Цель работы. Исследовать вклад Г. Скупинского в украинскую и мировую музыкальную культуру, выявить и устранить пробелы в исследовании жизненного пути и творческой деятельности голливудского композитора. Методология. Применены методы историографического, биографического, сравнительного и контекстуального анализа. В частности, биографический метод позволил выявить и устранить пробелы в жизненном и творческом пути Г. Скупинского в Украине (на Буковине), проследить смену творческих ориентиров художника после его переезда в США. Историографический метод послужил анализу общественного и культурного значения творчества композитора на родине и в эмиграции, а сравнительный и контекстуальный метод помогли заключить результаты исследования в панораму историко-культурного и музыковедческого портрета Г. Скупинского. Научная новизна. Исследование раскрывает неизвестные страницы истории становления легендарных музыкальных коллективов "Червона Рута", "Смеричка", показывает роль Г. Скупинского в этом процессе, впервые описывая его творчество, основанное на украинском национальном колорите буковинских музыкальных мотивов. Выводы. Анализ литературы в виде воспоминаний, отдельных научных исследований и документальных данных, материалов в местной прессе демонстрирует важность понимания фигуры Гаммы Скупинского в процессах скрытого культурного развития искусства и музыки Буковины. Поскольку музыкальное искусство требует реализации у реципиента и не может функционировать само в себе, как, скажем, литература, Гамма Скупинский стал известным за рубежом, в Канаде и США, будучи украинцем в душе, единомышленником украинских композиторов «материковой Украины». Создание «мира украинства» является важным фактором для реализации внешних отношений Украины, что обеспечивает положительное международное взаимовлияние, развитие экономического и культурного потенциалов.

In the early decades of the twentieth century, engagement with science was commonly used as an emblem of modernity. This phenomenon is now attracting increasing attention in different historical specialties.
