INTRODUCTION A challenge of minimally invasive esthetic procedures (eg, injectables and threads) is managing adverse events (AEs), such as post-procedural bruising. Implementation of post-procedural camouflage therapy may minimize the appearance of bruising and mitigate AEs. AIMS A physician and patient user experience program was designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a concealer for the cosmetic camouflage of post-procedural bruising. METHODS Thirty female patients with a mean age of 42.03 years participated in the program. Physicians and patients completed various questionnaires regarding the safety and efficacy of the investigational product (Dermablend™ Professional Cover Care Full Coverage Concealer) at three timepoints: Visit 1 (Day 0); Visit 2 (Day 3); and Visit 3 (Day 14 ± 3 days). RESULTS All patients presented with mild-to-moderate bruising following treatment with either esthetic injectables or threads. On average, users required 1.55 (SD: 0.72) coats to sufficiently cover their bruise(s). After application of the concealer, 78.18% of users displayed "clear skin with no signs of erythema" and 21.82% displayed "almost clear skin, with slight redness." No physician-reported AEs related to product use were reported throughout the evaluation period. No allergic reactions upon application nor intolerance to the product after prolonged use (ie, up to 14 days ± 3 days) was observed. Throughout the duration of use, 98.81% of subjects were at least slightly satisfied with results. At Visits 1 and 2, 100% of physicians were at least slightly satisfied with results. CONCLUSION Cosmetic concealer use can ameliorate the post-procedural experience for patients presenting with mild-to-moderate bruising.

BACKGROUND Acne vulgaris is one of the most common dermatological diseases, and it is known that various factors are related to triggering this condition in a patient. In particular, although the use of cosmetics is thought to be associated with the onset of a patient developing acne, there are few studies that have been conducted to date on this disease and its related factors. METHODS To begin with, a total of 539 patients with acne vulgaris, who visited three dermatologic clinics in Korea, were asked to complete a questionnaire regarding their condition in relation to clinical features and exacerbating factors, including the use of cosmetics. The patients all provided an accurate acne treatment history as well. RESULTS Among the respondents, 38.1% of patients who failed treatment answered that the condition of their acne was worsened by the continued use of cosmetics, which was significantly higher than 26.3% of the surveyed treatment-naive patients (P

The article is devoted to the perfumery-cosmetic subsystem of the Ukrainian language as a part of the scientific and technical terminology; which reflects the current state and conceptual apparatus of both spheres: perfumery and cosmetics. The development of the studied term info requires special attention on behalf of linguists. The concepts of perfumery; cosmetics; and cosmetology are verbalized in special terminology as a system of interdependent and interdependent elements; which is used in the process of special and mass communication. The purpose of the study is to establish the origin of the perfume and cosmetic terminology of the modern Ukrainian language.The collected material confirmed that in the terminology of perfumery and cosmetics nominations of praslaviс origin function. The original vocabulary; which amounts to 5.6% of the terms from the number of words we collected (without counting the derivational derivates); is inherited from the Indo-European lexical fund (water; salt); the Proto-Slavic language (perfume; soap; wax); and also as a result of contacts between East Slavic languages and own development of the Ukrainian language (foam; a candle; a sample; concealer; whitener). Borrowings dominate in the body frame of the terminology of cosmetic and perfumery means of the Ukrainian language (45.6% of the total number of terms studied by us); which is explained by the general trend tendency and the international character of the perfume and cosmetics industry. Etymological borrowed words are direct and mediated from Greek (aroma; cream); Latin (gel; concentrate); French (lipstick; cologne); English (spray; corrector; toniс) adapt to the phonetic; lexical and grammatical subsystems of the language.The prospect of further research is a comparative study of the lexico-semantic; structural and functional specifics of the perfumery-cosmetic terminology of the Ukrainian and other Slavic languages.

International audience; Cosmetic exposure data for face and mouth are limited in Europe. The aim of the study was to assess the exposure to face cosmetics using recent French consumption data (Ficheux et al., 2016b, 2015). Exposure was assessed using a probabilistic method for thirty one face products from four lines of products: cleanser, care, make-up and make-up remover products and two oral care products. Probabilistic exposure was assessed for different subpopulation according to sex and age in adults and children. Pregnant women were also studied. The levels of exposure to moisturizing cream, lip balm, mascara, eyeliner, cream foundation, toothpaste and mouthwash were higher than the values currently used by the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS). Exposure values found for eye shadow, lipstick, lotion and milk (make-up remover) were lower than SCCS values. These new French exposure values will be useful for safety assessors and for safety agencies in order to protect the general population and the at risk populations. © 2017

Background/Objective: This paper aimed to select low-priced and high riced concealer products sold inKorea to analyze the inorganic materials in these cosmetic products and to investigate whether any heavymetal materials harmful to humans are present in them.Method: The inorganic materials and heavy metal materials in the concealer cosmetics products wereobserved with a scanning electron microscope and the component elements were analyzed using energydispersion spectroscopy.Findings: Both the low- and high-priced concealer products used for this study mainly contained silica,titanium dioxide, and iron oxide. The study found that the high-priced concealer products did not containheavy metal materials harmful to humans but the low-priced concealer products contained the radioactivematerial technetium. When cosmetics containing this radioactive material are applied over a long period oftime adverse health and cosmetic effects may develop.Improvements/Applications: Not only stones and soil in nature but also metals in water may be mixedinto the base materials used to manufacture cosmetics. High-purity base materials must be used to producehigh-quality cosmetics and a thorough quality control process must be applied to the manufacturing processto prevent foreign materials from contaminating cosmetics products.

Highlighting the lip area by lipstick or concealer improves speechreading. ? Speaking in a clear (rather than conversational) manner improves speechreading. ? Results are discussed in practical terms and in relation to attention and movement. It has long been known that visual information from a talker's mouth and face plays an important role in the perception and understanding of spoken language. The reported experiments explore the impact of lip visibility (Experiments 1 & 2) and speaking style (Experiment 2) on talker speechreadability. Specifically we compare speechreading performance (words in Experiment 1; sentences in Experiment 2 with low level auditory input) from talkers with natural lips, with brightly coloured lips and with concealed lips. Results reveal that highlighting the lip area by the application of lipstick or concealer improves speechreading, relative to natural lips. Furthermore, speaking in a clear (rather than conversational) manner improves speechreading performance, with no interaction between lip visibility and speaking style. Results are discussed in relation to practical methods of improving speechreading and in relation to attention and movement parameters.

Purpose To evaluate MRI artifacts at 3-Tesla for 38 commonly used cosmetics. Materials and Methods Thirty-eight cosmetics (16, nail polishes; 5, eyeliners; 3, mascaras; 10, eye shadows; 1, lip gloss; 1, body lotion; 1, body glitter, and 1, hair loss concealer) underwent evaluation for MRI artifacts at 3-Tesla. The cosmetics were applied a copper-sulfate-filled, phantom and initially assessed using a “screening” gradient echo (GRE) pulse sequence. Of the 38 different cosmetics, 14 (37%) exhibited artifacts. For these 14 cosmetics, additional characterization of artifacts was performed using a GRE pulse sequence. A qualitative scale was applied to characterize the artifact size. Results Artifacts were observed, as follows: 2, nail polishes; 5, eyeliners; 3, mascaras; 3, eye shadows; 1, hair loss concealer. Artifact size ranged from small (eye shadow) to very large (hair loss concealer) and tended to be associated with the presence of iron oxide or other metal-based ingredient. Conclusions Commonly used cosmetics caused artifacts that may create issues if the area of interest is the same as where the cosmetic was applied or if its presence was unknown, thus, potentially causing it to be construed as pathology. Therefore, these findings have important implications for patients referred for MRI examinations.

In this study, we present evidence of lead in lip liner, oil absorbent powder, mascara, concealer, lipsticks, lip gloss, and foundation. The samples were analyzed for lead by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The levels of lead in concealer, mascara, lip liner, and oil absorbent powder were found to be 7.4 ± 1.3 µg g−1, 15.8 ± 0.2 µg g−1, 29.0 ± 9.2 µg g−1, and 17.3 ± 2.9 µg g−1, respectively. The levels of lead in lipsticks, lip gloss, and foundation ranged from not detected to 73.1 ± 5.2 µg g−1, 4.7 to 11.7 ± 2.8 µg g−1, and 7.8 to 32.9 ± 1.4 µg g−1, respectively. Thus, in the majority of samples, the concentrations of lead are higher than the USFDA maximum permissible concentration of 0.10 µg g−1 in candy and cosmetics. In lipsticks alone, only 25% of 40 samples were found to meet the requirement. Therefore, continuous use of cosmetic products in which lead concentration exceeds the maximum permissible level may pose a health hazard for the female population of South Africa in the long run.
