A textbook is crucial in teaching-learning process at the university level. However, many textbooks in universities are lack in practice and too theoretical. This can be an obstacle for non-English department students. It will be hard for them to speak in English if the existing textbooks only concern in grammatical issues and put aside the communicative side (Speaking). This study aims to develop a practical and effective English textbook that prioritize the communicative side i.e., the spoken English for non-English department students. The research method used in this research is the Research & Development (R&D) by using the ADDIE development model in which the non-English Department students of STKIP Al Maksum Langkat as its research subject. The research sample was taken randomly (Random Sampling) based on the research needs. From the data taken, it was found that: 1) the developed-English textbook is declared very valid (92.9%) by 6 expert validators and could be used but needed minor revisions, 2) textbooks had met the criteria of practicality and effectiveness in improving the English speaking skill of non-English department students.

Students’ argumentation ability is necessary for education today, which emphasizes the student-centered learning process. One way to see students’ argumentation ability is by having a discussion. Therefore, this study aimed to describe the Toulmin argumentation process for students during focus group discussions (FGD). This research is qualitative. The data collection instrument used was an open-ended questionnaire assisted by Google Form that contained common problems of the distance learning process during a pandemic. The subjects of this study consisted of fifty students from the University of Mataram. The results showed that the argumentation process was divided into three categories. The first category was the one-sentence argument. There were 58 %, or 29 students, who belonged in this category. The second category was the two sentences argument. There are 30 %, or 15 students belonged in this category. Lastly, 12 % or six students belonged to the more than three sentence argument category. The results of this study indicated that many students could not provide complete arguments. Thus, the role of lecturers is significant to improve students’ ability in providing complete argumentations. Therefore, the researchers suggest that lecturers should apply learning models that invite students to argue and discuss.

The topic of buffer has connections between concepts and some prerequisite materials that students should understand to be able to facilitate this material. The lack of mastery on the material will lower the learning outcomes. This study aimed to improve students’ learning outcomes on buffer through the implementation of advance organizer learning model based on numbered heads together (NHT). This study was one group pretest-posttest design. The sample of this study was students of 11th grade Science at SMAN 2 Balaesang consisting of class XI Science 1 as the experiment class 1 with 33 students and class XI Science 2 as the experiment class 2 with 32 students. The effectiveness of the implementation of advance organizer learning model NHT-based can be seen from the average N-gain value of the experimental classes. The average N-gain value of experimental class 1 was 0.69 included in the medium category. While the average N-gain value of experimental class 2 was 0.71 included in the high category. Data analysis showed that the average value of students learning scores was greater than 65, where for the experimental class 1 was 76.36 and the experimental class 2 was 76.71. The advance organizer learning model NHT-based improved learning outcomes of students in 11th grade Science on buffer at SMAN 2 Balaesang.

Cultural disappearance in the social order is one of the concerns in Indonesia nowadays, one of which is Sundanese culture. In addition, the crash of globalization also requires people to be inspired by learning many aspects away from their own culture. This paper aims at increasing the position of ethno mathematics learning in attractive the disposition modeling of mathematics while maintaining the traditional culture. This quantitative study applied the Rasch Wins Step Model to survey 90 elementary pre-service elementary teachers education students as the respondents in which they were grouped based on educational background, namely science or non-science, and Sundanese language ability background, and by Sundanese and non-Sundanese language, based on educational background, 59 respondents were the students of natural science class, and 31 respondents were not the students of natural science class and consisting of 42 Sundanese respondents and 48 non-Sundanese respondents. The data were gathered by means of questionnaires regarding mathematics modeling disposition. The consequences exposed that most students decided to increase mathematics modeling disposition with ethno mathematics learning because student curiosity increases the understanding of Sundanese culture in learning mathematics. The more ordinary science and Sundanese origin support ethno mathematics learning compared to non-science and non-Sundanese mathematics modeling disposition. Mathematical modeling activities will be more meaningful for students if they use culture.

The purpose of this study was to describe the implementation of problem-based learning in environmental chemistry course and its effect on the development of students’ character at Chemistry Education Programe, FKIP, Mataram University in the even semester of 2019/2020. This research was a pre-experimental research with pre-test post-test design, using a class consisting of 31 students. During class discussions, each group was very active in responding and defending opinions based on the references they had in the form of books, journals, and papers that they obtained from various sources. After being analyzed using the ANOVA test, an average score (mean) of students' characters after learning was 239.03 significantly higher than the mean before learning of 219.58. The character component includes attitudes, interests, values, and self-concepts significantly contribute to student character.

This paper aims to optimize Sundanese ethnomathematics learning by improving the creative thinking ability of mathematics, geometry thinking, and algebra of primary school students. Teaching materials prepared by qualitative research, the didactical design research method. The research subject which used in the learning obstacle test is the fifth-grade primary school students with a total of 71 students. The Initial design didactic and revised design didactic, four-grade primary students with a total of 32 students. The resulting research Sundanese ethnomathematics learning by using a Sundanese cultural board and engklek games can optimize the creative thinking ability of mathematics, geometry thinking, and algebra of primary school. The results achieved in the initial didactic design used the design of Sundanese ethnomathematics learning in refining geometric thinking, creative thinking, and algebra thinking and almost all of which relate to predictions. The revision of didactic design was organized in accord with the initial didactic design which is not optimal. The research of the revision of didactic design was also constant to use Sundanese ethnomathematics learning and modified to indicators of thinking ability of mathematical geometry of creative thinking and algebra thinking. The outcome achieved on the revision of didactic design uses ethnomathematics learning in refining the ability to geometric, creatively and mathematical algebra thinking of students has already been in accord with predictions. https://doi.org/10.26803/ijlter.18.11.9

Ethnomathematics learning is learning that connects cultural and mathematical concepts by looking at mathematics as a cultural product. Material reduction of natural numbers can be learned using Indonesian children's games, namely Sundanese culture. Mathematical learning activities that can be done is to understand the basic facts of addition to a collection and reduction that is presented with the technique of discarding. The subject of this study uses 82 teachers, 1 teacher guides 1 until 9 elementary school students with a total of elementary school students used 273. Students learn mathematics with ethnomathematics learning endog-endogan game. After the data are collected, the researcher processes the data using a qualitative descriptive method, which describes the documentation of the data with the students' responses.Benefits in this learning students will play together with other students so that fun, 163 happy, 49 student enthusiastic in learning mathematics, 49 students says learning mathematics is easy and 12 students eliminate misconceptions in reduction operations. Mathematical abstracts can be reduced and promote Indonesian cultural products in the development of mathematical learning innovations.

The objective of this study was to categorize and describe the behavior of chemistry education students' metacognitive skills who had a low chemical understanding (low ability) in solving problems. The findings would be the basis of data for the development of instructional design on chemistry topics by utilizing metacognitive skill aspects. The subject of this study was two first-year students of chemical education, academic year 2016/2017 that joined a basic chemistry course at the low-level ability in Universitas Tadulako. Two subjects were picked through networking using a valid test comprehension. The subjects were determined regarding the percentage of low ability which was 87% of 79 students. The profile data of metacognitive skill were obtained through an essay test, think aloud and interview. The earned data were reviewed, grouped, encoded, and examined to see its credibility employing the method and time triangulation. The research found that both students of chemistry education having a low-level of basic chemistry adopted planning skills in solving problems which were the problem identifying, goal determining, and strategy managing. However, both did not use monitoring and evaluating skills.

Preliminary observations made at SD Negeri 13 Kerinci Kanan Siak Regency, there was a phenomenon that some teachers did not know about environmentally sound schools, lack of knowledge of teachers and other school members regarding adiwiyata school policies, lack of implementation of adiwiyata schools, and so on. Based on the problems mentioned above, this school action research was carried out to increase teacher knowledge about Adiwiyata school and to find out the weaknesses and strengths of the implementation of demonstration methods to increase teacher knowledge in SD Negeri 13 Kerinci Kanan Siak Regency. This research was designed in the form of a School Action Research which was planned to be carried out in two cycles. The subjects of this study were the teachers at the SD Negeri 13 Kerinci Kanan Siak Regency, totalling 9 teachers. Based on the results of research conducted, Cycle I, no teacher has a percentage in the very good category while in the second cycle the percentage of teachers in the very good category is 33.3%. Good category, in the first cycle 44.4% increased to 55.5%, in the sufficient category, the first cycle gained a percentage of 33.3% and decreased to 11.2% in the second cycle. Whereas in the lack category, cycle I gained a percentage of 22.3% and in cycle II the percentage of teachers who were in the inadequate category was gone. Thus it can be concluded that the implementation of the demonstration method can increase teacher knowledge of adiwiyata schools in SD Negeri 13 Kerinci Kanan Siak Regency.

Aspects of local culture in learning mathematics in primary school teacher education are still not optimally presented in learning. One way to realize this learning is by learning Sundanese ethnomathematics. The mathematical modeling is very supportive ability in the learning process. The process of mathematical modeling can develop creative intelligence. This article uses the Didactical Design Research method to further optimize the quality of teaching materials. The number of research subjects was 180 of first semester student. The teaching material was tested for success by an experimental method through a test instrument that measured mathematical modeling abilities and creative intelligence. Research results in mathematical modeling ability among students who get mathematics learning using Sundanese ethnomathematics learning is significantly better than students who use conventional learning. There is no interaction between learning models used with educational background groups on mathematical modeling abilities. There is no interaction for creative intelligence. Sundanese ethnomathematics learning with didactic design material can be used as a model of mathematics learning to develop the abilities and dispositions of mathematical creative thinking abilities and dispositions in the elementary school teacher education environment.

This article aims at optimizing Sundanese ethnomatematics learning by improving the modeling and creative thinking abilities of primary school students using teaching materials developed with the Didactic Design Research method. The research subjects involved were first-grade and second-grade students of an Islamic primary school in the city of Serang, Banten with a total of 283 students. The data were obtained using learning obstacles test instrument, Initial Didactic Design and Revised Initial Didactic Design as the instruments. The results of the study show that learning barriers were experienced in the materials of addition and subtraction of numbers. The Initial Didactic Design was revised and developed using Sundanese ethnomathematics learning using endog-endogan and engklek games that resulted in the improvement of primary students’ creative thinking, geometry thinking, and algebra.

Phenomenon the current problem of children in the world, including Indonesia, is not familiar with the benefits of traditional games so that it has an impact on the lack of mathematical achievements, social interactions and physical activity of elementary school students. The purpose of this paper is to examine the development of mathematical understanding, social and physical abilities of grade IV students in elementary school through Sundanese ethnomathematics learning. Thirty-seven students in the experimental class and thirty-eight students in the control class participated in a quasi-experimental design. The instruments used were tested, interviews, observation and documentation. The results showed that the experimental class’s mathematical comprehension ability was better than that of the control class, the formation of social interactions between students, and students-teachers, making students involved in activities so that the learning atmosphere felt pleasant, interesting, and healthy for the students’ bodies. Sundanese ethnomathematics learning with engklekmatika games has proven to be useful for elementary school students because it can develop the mathematical, social and physical abilities of elementary school students.

This research is motivated by the lack of passionate students of the Program Studi Perumahsakitan Vokasi in the following study courses Biostatistics, because the teaching method does not make the students become active and participate. Consequently Biostatistics courses often leave some students are forced to repeat the due credit limit does not reach the threshold value eventually pass (C) and of course is very detrimental to the student having to repeat the course credit until they intern (last semester). This study is a class act with the entire student subjects RS1 50 people Academic Year 2012/2013 in the University of Indonesia with the material limits of Biostatistics emphasis on material probability. Results were obtained in cycle 1 achieved an average score of 3770/5000 = 75.4, cycle 2 average scores achieved 4105/5000 = 82.1 and cycle 3 achieved an average score of 4585/5000 = 91.7. Conclusion The method of cooperative learning approach through the media LKM have a positive impact in improving student achievement is marked by an increase in the average scores achieved in each cycle, and through the media worksheet can increase student interest and motivation shown by increased activity in the classroom discussion. Advice is to carry out a cooperative approach through the media LKM method requires the preparation of a fairly mature, so the lecturer must be able to determine the learning scenario can actually be applied in order to obtain optimal results. Research on the effect of the problem-based learning model in the basic laws of chemistry on student’s learning outcomes in class X MAN 2 Model Palu has been done. This study aimed to determine the effect of the application of the problem-based learning model in the basic laws of chemistry on student’s learning outcomes in class X MAN 2 Model Palu. The type of research was a quasi-experimental study non-randomized design with pretest-posttest control group design. The sample was conducted with a purposive sampling technique. The study sample was students in class X MIA 6 as an experimental group (n = 22) and students in class X MIA 3 as a control group (n = 22). The data testing of students' learning outcomes used a non-parametric statistical analysis, the analysis of Mann-Whitney U-Test. The research results indicated that the mean value of the experiment class was high compared to the control class, 22.61 >18.39. The statistical analysis obtained that sig. 2-tailed (0,032) ˂ 0.05 and Zcalculation (-2.149) ˂ Ztable (-1.96). The average value of the experiment class was 82.95 while the average value of the control class was 73.64. So it can be concluded that there is the effect of applying the problem-based learning model in the basic laws of chemistry on student’s learning outcomes.

The research about the balancing of redox reaction on chemistry subject has been done. This research was conducted on class XII IPA8 SMA Negeri 2 Palu with 28 of the student, in the first semester of the academic year 2014-2015. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative in which data processing use percentages and rating scale. The data is collected by observation sheets, questionnaires, and documentation. Implementation of lesson study on class XII IPA8 SMA Negeri 2 Palu is conducted in three meetings time (open class) with 3 phases; plan, do and see, respectively. Based on the results obtained every meeting by the researcher, the data activity of students is rising by 54.93, 59.86, and 74.30%. Furthermore, at the third meeting, the data obtained is an excellent category which means the student’s activity in the lesson study was increased. These prove that through the lesson study can increase the activity of the learning process of students. In addition, based on the data analysis of the student’s learning outcomes during three meeting times is increased. Average of completeness of student’s learning outcomes of every meeting is 67.85, 85.71, and 100%, respectively. Again, these prove that the student’s learning outcomes by classical can be increased through the lesson study.

Interest is the tendency of a person to carry out the deed, as the interest to learn something in terms of reading, writing, or discussing. In a situation of effective learning takes place when the interest and attention of learners in learning. Hence the interest of learners very big influence in learning, because with the interest of learners will be working on something that interested him. So for the success of the study was affected by something which is in self-learners, and something that comes from outside the learner, such as teachers. Since the internal process is not immediate action, then a faculty member should be able to direct the external process such that it can affect the internal processes within learners. The influence of interest students in learning has a positive influence to the achievement of learning a subject. The higher the interest of students in learning a subject, the higher the learning outcomes achieved a subject. Conversely, the lower the interest students in learning a subject, then the lower the learning outcomes of a course that achieves.
