This expository paper presents known results on distribution functions g(x) of the sequence of blocks where xn is an increasing sequence of positive integers. Also presents results of the set G(Xn) of all distribution functions g(x). Specially: - continuity of g(x); - connectivity of G(Xn); - singleton of G(Xn); - one-step g(x); - uniform distribution of Xn, n = 1, 2, . . . ; - lower and upper bounds of g(x); - applications to bounds of ; - many examples, e.g., , where pn is the nth prime, is uniformly distributed. The present results have been published by 25 papers of several authors between 2001-2013.

In 1935, Erdos proved that all natural numbers can be written as a sum of a square of a prime and a square-free number. In 1939, Pillai derived an asymptotic formula for the number of such representations. The mathematical review of Pillai’s paper stated that the proof of the above result contained inaccuracies, thus casting a doubt on the correctness of the paper. In this paper, we re-examine Pillai’s paper and show that his argument was essentially correct. Afterwards, we improve the error term in Pillai’s theorem using the Bombieri–Vinogradov theorem.

It is shown that an approach earlier used by the author for classification of closed simply connected 6-manifolds (reduction to the problem of calculating certain bordism groups) can also be applied for easily obtaining the results by Barden (1965) on classification of closed simply connected 5-manifolds. Fine and Wilf's theorem has recently been extended to words having three periods. Following the method of the authors we extend it to an arbitrary number of periods and deduce from that a characterization of generalized Arnoux-Rauzy sequences or episturmian infinite words.

We generalize and give a simple proof of a Theorem of Blasco. One formulates a generalization of the known Hardy-Littlewood inequality, namely Theorem E(t∣A)≺QE(t*∣A*), where ≺ is the Hardy-Littlewood preorder, t* and A* are the decreasing rearrangements of the function ¦t¦ and (in a special sense) of the partition A, while Q is an absolute constant, 1⩽Q⩽25. One formulates the problem of the smallest value of Q.

The purpose of this note is to present a new proof of a generalized form of Day's fixed point theorem. The proof we give is suggested by the work of T. Mitchell in his paper, Function algebras, means, and fixed points, [2]. The version of Day's theorem which we present here has not appeared explicitly in the literature before, and seems especially well suited for application to questions concerning fixed point properties of topological semigroups. 1. Preliminaries. We adopt the terminology and notation of [2] except where otherwise specified. New terminology will be introduced as needed. R. A. Brualdi [1] presents a construction yielding matrices whose Birkhoff representation consists of the maximum number of permutation matrices and having 0(2n2) line sum. In this note a counterexample to such a construction is given. Furthermore, a new construction is presented, yielding matrices with lower line sums.

The first part of the theorem of the above paper states that if ois a closed convex set in real X1 ... Xn-space which is invariant under permutations of coordinates, and if C(o-) denotes the set of real symmetric nXn matrices whose eigenvalues X1, X. form the coordinates of points in a, then C(o) is convex. I am obliged to Professor R. T. Rockafellar for pointing out that this statement is essentially contained in a theorem of Chandler Davis.2 The statement also follows from an earlier result of V. B. Lidskii,3 which was not known to me at the time of publication.

In this short paper, we show that, with three exceptions, if the Wiener index of a connected graph of order $n$ is at most $(n+ 5)(n- 2)/ 2$, then it is traceable.

‡ Abstract. In this short paper we study the game of cops and robbers, which is played on the vertices of some fixed graph G. Cops and a robber are allowed to move along the edges of G, and the goal of cops is to capture the robber. The cop number cðGÞ of G is the minimum number of cops required to win the game. Meyniel conjectured a long time ago that Oð ffiffiffi p Þ cops are enough for any connected G on n vertices. Improving several previous results, we prove that the cop number of an n-vertex graph is at most n2 −ð1þoð1ÞÞ ffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffi log n p .A similar result independently and slightly before us was also obtained by Lu and Peng.

0.1. How it all began. When the second author translated a result on algebraic sur faces into the language of lattice polygons using toric geometry, he got a simple inequality for lattice polygons. This inequality had originally been discovered by Scott [12]. The first author then found a third proof. Subsequently, both authors went through a phase of polygon addiction. Once you get started drawing lattice polygons on graph paper and discovering relations between their numerical invariants, it is not so easy to stop! (The gentle reader has been warned.) Thus, it was just unavoidable that the authors came up with new inequalities: Scott's inequality can be sharpened if one takes into account another invariant, which is de fined by peeling off the skins of the polygons like an onion (see Section 3).

In this short paper we prove that even though the latest transitive operator has only one negative entry, we cannot get rid of it by simple operations. The research is motivated by, still unsolved, invariant subspace problem for positive operators.

In this short paper, we give an upper bound for the number of different basic feasible solutions generated by the simplex method for linear programming problems having optimal solutions. The bound is polynomial of the number of constraints, the number of variables, and the ratio between the minimum and the maximum values of all the positive elements of primal basic feasible solutions. When the primal problem is nondegenerate, it becomes a bound for the number of iterations. We show some basic results when it is applied to special linear programming problems. We shall present partial solutions to the conjecture such that $(q^{p}-1)/(q-1)$ does not divide $(p^{q}-1)/(p-1)$ for distinct primes $p < q$.

In this paper we introduce a natural model for the realization space of a polytope up to projective equivalence which we call the slack realization space of the polytope. The model arises from the positive part of an algebraic variety determined by the slack ideal of the polytope. This is a saturated determinantal ideal that encodes the combinatorics of the polytope. We also derive a new model of the realization space of a polytope from the positive part of the variety of a related ideal. Kavut, Selçuk (Balikesir Author), Very recently, a class of cryptographically significant Boolean functions were constructed by Tang and Maitra [IEEE Trans. Inform. Theory, 64 ( 2018), pp. 393-402] by modifying the PSap class of bent functions. The basic ideas used in Tang-Maitra construction were derived from a modification of a subclass of bent functions which is defined over the finite field, and a concern was raised in the same paper whether the implementation of such functions will be as efficient as that of Maiorana-McFarland type bent functions. In this paper, we look at the concrete realization of such functions over a vector space and answer the question positively. The first part of this paper investigates how the finite field implementation of the functions can be viewed as simple truth tables. Two permutations of $[n]=\{1,2 \ldots n\}$ are \textit{$k$-neighbor separated} if there are two elements that are neighbors in one of the permutations and that are separated by exactly $k-2$ other elements in the other permutation. Let the maximal number of pairwise $k$-neighbor separated permutations of $[n]$ be denoted by $P(n,k)$. In a previous paper, the authors have determined $P(n,3)$ for every $n$, answering a question of K\"orner, Messuti and Simonyi affirmatively. In this paper we prove that for every fixed positive integer $\ell $, $$P(n,2^\ell+1) = 2^{n-o(n)}. $$ We conjecture that for every fixed even $k$, $P(n,k)=2^{n-o(n)}$. We also show that this conjecture is asymptotically true in the following sense $$\lim_{k \rightarrow \infty} \lim_{n \rightarrow \infty} \sqrt[n]{P(n,k)}=2.$$ Finally, we show that for even $n$, $P(n,n)= 3n/2$.

A $(\beta,\epsilon)$-hopset for a weighted undirected $n$-vertex graph $G=(V,E)$ is a set of edges, whose addition to the graph guarantees that every pair of vertices has a path between them that contains at most $\beta$ edges, whose length is within $1+\epsilon$ of the shortest path. In her seminal paper, Cohen \cite[JACM 2000]{C00} introduced the notion of hopsets in the context of parallel computation of approximate shortest paths, and since then it has found numerous applications in various other settings, such as dynamic graph algorithms, distributed computing, and the streaming model. Cohen \cite{C00} devised efficient algorithms for constructing hopsets with {\em polylogarithmic} in $n$ number of hops. Her constructions remain the state-of-the--art since the publication of her paper in STOC'94, i.e., for more than two decades. In this paper we exhibit the first construction of sparse hopsets with a {\em constant number of hops}. We also find efficient algorithms for hopsets in various computational settings, improving the best known constructions. Generally, our hopsets strictly outperform the hopsets of \cite{C00}, both in terms of their parameters, and in terms of the resources required to construct them. We demonstrate the applicability of our results for the fundamental problem of computing approximate shortest paths from $s$ sources. Our results improve the running time for this problem in the parallel, distributed and streaming models, for a vast range of $s$.

This paper considers an edge minimization problem in saturated bipartite graphs. An $n$ by $n$ bipartite graph $G$ is $H$-saturated if $G$ does not contain a subgraph isomorphic to $H$ but adding any missing edge to $G$ creates a copy of $H$. More than half a century ago, Wessel and Bollob\'as independently solved the problem of minimizing the number of edges in $K_{(s,t)}$-saturated graphs, where $K_{(s,t)}$ is the `ordered' complete bipartite graph with $s$ vertices from the first color class and $t$ from the second. However, the very natural `unordered' analogue of this problem was considered only half a decade ago by Moshkovitz and Shapira. When $s=t$, it can be easily checked that the unordered variant is exactly the same as the ordered case. Later, Gan, Kor\'andi, and Sudakov gave an asymptotically tight bound on the minimum number of edges in $K_{s,t}$-saturated $n$ by $n$ bipartite graphs, which is only smaller than the conjecture of Moshkovitz and Shapira by an additive constant. In this paper, we confirm their conjecture for $s=t-1$ with the classification of the extremal graphs. In this paper we introduce a general framework for the study of limits of relational structures in general and graphs in particular, which is based on a combination of model theory and (functional) analysis. We show how the various approaches to graph limits fit to this framework and that they naturally appear as "tractable cases" of a general theory. As an outcome of this, we provide extensions of known results. We believe that this put these into next context and perspective. For example, we prove that the sparse--dense dichotomy exactly corresponds to random free graphons. The second part of the paper is devoted to the study of sparse structures. First, we consider limits of structures with bounded diameter connected components and we prove that in this case the convergence can be "almost" studied component-wise. We also propose the structure of limits objects for convergent sequences of sparse structures. Eventually, we consider the specific case of limits of colored rooted trees with bounded height and of graphs with bounded tree-depth, motivated by their role of elementary brick these graphs play in decompositions of sparse graphs, and give an explicit construction of a limit object in this case. This limit object is a graph built on a standard probability space with the property that every first-order definable set of tuples is measurable. This is an example of the general concept of {\em modeling} we introduce here. A cut $\varepsilon$-sparsifier of a weighted graph $G$ is a re-weighted subgraph of $G$ of (quasi)linear size that preserves the size of all cuts up to a multiplicative factor of $\varepsilon$. Since their introduction by Bencz\'ur and Karger [STOC'96], cut sparsifiers have proved extremely influential and found various applications. Going beyond cut sparsifiers, Filtser and Krauthgamer [SIDMA'17] gave a precise classification of which binary Boolean CSPs are sparsifiable. This thesis consists of the following papers.I J. Larsson, The Minimum Matching in Pseudo-dimension 0 0.The second paper lives in a more general setting. There we search for any cover of the ground set V, for general families F. Each set f ∈ F receives weight w(f) uniformly at random from [0,1]. The cost of a cover f_1,f_2,...f_m is then taken to be max_i w(f_i). This is equivalent (after a rescaling) to drawing sets from F at Poisson times, and the cost of a cover is the first time V is covered. This problem is known under a number of names, perhaps most famously the coupon collector problem. In the classical formulation, single elements of V are drawn, not sets. The classical coupon collector thus corresponds to the family F consisting of singleton sets, and we call the version allowing larger sets structured coupon collector problems. The main concern of this paper is to identify relevant properties of F that affect the covering time (i.e. minimal cost of a cover), and to provide (easily checkable) sufficient conditions for concentration of the covering time.For the third paper we narrow the scopes once more, and study the biased random k-SAT problem. The random k-SAT problem can be seen as a special case of the structured coupon collector, but a special case that has far richer structure than the generic case. The ground set is the hypercube Σ_n = {0, 1}^n, and the coupons are all the k-codimensional subcubes of Σ_n. We study a slight variation on this problem: subcubes are drawn with a constant bias towards 0, so that vertices in Σ_n with fewer 1's and more 0's are easier to cover.

In this paper, we study zero-one laws for the Erd\H{o}s--R\'{e}nyi random graph model $G(n,p)$ in the case when $p = n^{-\alpha}$ for $\alpha>0$. For a given class $\mathcal{K}$ of logical sentences about graphs and a given function $p=p(n)$, we say that $G(n,p)$ obeys the zero-one law (w.r.t. the class $\mathcal{K}$) if each sentence $\varphi\in\mathcal{K}$ either a.a.s. true or a.a.s. false for $G(n,p)$. In this paper, we consider first order properties and monadic second order properties of bounded \textit{quantifier depth} $k$, that is, the length of the longest chain of nested quantifiers in the formula expressing the property. Zero-one laws for properties of quantifier depth $k$ we call the \textit{zero-one $k$-laws}. The main results of this paper concern the zero-one $k$-laws for monadic second order properties (MSO properties). We determine all values $\alpha>0$, for which the zero-one $3$-law for MSO properties does not hold. We also show that, in contrast to the case of the $3$-law, there are infinitely many values of $\alpha$ for which the zero-one $4$-law for MSO properties does not hold. To this end, we analyze the evolution of certain properties of $G(n,p)$ that may be of independent interest.

The Farey sequence of order n consists of all reduced fractions a / b between 0 and 1 with positive denominator b less or equal to n. In a series of former papers we obtained a limit function which describes a scaling property of the Farey sequence of order n for $$n \rightarrow \infty $$ in the vicinity of any fixed fraction a / b and which is independent of a / b. In this paper we derive a representation formula for a sequence of functions used in the Franel–Landau theorem to determine the number of Farey-fractions in prescribed intervals, and we establish a corresponding limit function for this sequence as well. This is combined with a former result to derive a remarkable representation formula for arithmetic means of related functions.

Quantum maximal-distance-separable (MDS) codes that satisfy quantum Singleton bound with different lengths have been constructed by some researchers. In this paper, seven families of asymmetric quantum MDS codes are constructed by using constacyclic codes. We weaken the case of Hermitian-dual containing codes that can be applied to construct asymmetric quantum MDS codes with parameters $[[n,k,d_{z}/d_{x}]]_{q^{2}}$ . These quantum codes are able to correct quantum errors with greater asymmetry. Moreover, these quantum codes constructed in this paper are different from the ones in the literature.

Let G be a graph of order n . A subset S of V ( G ) is a dominating set of G if every vertex in V ( G ) ⧹ S is adjacent to at least one vertex of S . The domination polynomial of G is the polynomial D ( G , x ) = ∑ i = γ ( G ) n d ( G , i ) x i , where d ( G , i ) is the number of dominating sets of G of size i , and γ ( G ) is the size of a smallest dominating set of G , called the domination number of G . We say two graphs G and H are dominating equivalent if D ( G , x ) = D ( H , x ) . A graph G is said to be dominating unique , or simply D -unique, if D ( H , x ) = D ( G , x ) implies that H ≅ G . The goal of this paper is to find a new approach to determine the dominating uniqueness of graphs. In this paper, we define a new graph polynomial, called star polynomial, and introduced an analogy notion of star uniqueness of graphs. As an application, if G is a graph without isolated vertices, we show that a graph G is star unique if and only if G ‾ ∨ K m is dominating unique for each m ⩾ 0 . As a by-product, the dominating uniqueness of many families of dense graphs is also determined.

In 1874, Franz Mertens proved the so-called Mertens’ theorem, and in 1974, Kenneth S. Williams showed Mertens’ theorem associated with a character. In a previous paper, we presented a graph-theoretic analogue to Williams’ theorem. In this paper, we generalize our previous work in the sense that a character is extended to a representation. To our knowledge, a number-theoretic analogue to our result is not yet known. So, we expect that, by using our methods, it can be proven in the future.

Shannon and Zipf-Mandelbrot entropies have many applications in many applied sciences, for example, in information theory, biology and economics, etc. In this paper, we consider two refinements of the well-know Jensen inequality and obtain different bounds for Shannon and Zipf-Mandelbrot entropies. First of all, we use some convex functions and manipulate the weights and domain of the functions and deduce results for Shannon entropy. We also discuss their particular cases. By using Zipf-Mandelbrot laws for different parameters in Shannon entropies results, we obtain bounds for Zipf-Mandelbrot entropy. The idea used in this paper for obtaining the results may stimulate further research in this area, particularly for Zipf-Mandelbrot entropy.

The research of multifunctions is a one of the directions in discrete function’s investigations. Multifunction is a discrete function from a finite set A to all subsets of A. The set of hyperfunctions is a subset of set of multifunctions. Hyperfunction is a discrete function from a finite set A to all nonempty subsets of A. The subset relation of hyperfunctions to maximal multiclones is a relation of equivalence and according it all hyperfunctions are divided into equivalence classes. Based on this equivalence it is possible to estimate the cardinality of all possible bases, calculate the number of different types of bases of the same cardinality, and construct some intervals of the clone lattice. Knowing the number of maximal clones, we can obtain upper-bound estimate of the number of such classes as the cardinality of the set of all subsets of the set of maximal clones. It possible to lower this estimate by using properties of the hyperfunctions . A lower-bound estimate for the number of classes can be obtained by constructing the corresponding classes. It is noteworthy that the complexity of the problem of describing all equivalence classes increases essentially with the cardinality of the set of maximal clones increasing. This paper considers multifunctions on a two-element set. The number of maximal multiclones equals to 15 (Panteleyev V.I., 2009). The primary purpose of this research is describing the classification of the set of hyperfunctions into equivalence classes. As Kazimirov A.S. and Panteleyev V.I. showed there are 18 equivalence classes on the set of Boolean functions, which is a subset of the set of hyperfunctions. In this paper were obtained special properties of hyperfunctions and were described all the equivalence classes generated by functions of 3 arguments having applied a computer experiment. The obtained results made it possible to show that the subset relation of hyperfunctions to maximal multiclones splits the set of all hyperfunctions into 67 equivalence classes.

Let λK m,n be a complete bipartite multigraph with two partite sets having m and n vertices, respectively. A K p,q -factorization of λK m,n is a set of edge-disjoint K p,q -factors of λK m,n which partition the set of edges of λK m,n . When p = 1 and q is a prime number, Wang, in his paper [On K 1,q -factorization of complete bipartite graph, Discrete Math., 126: (1994), 359-364], investigated the K 1,q -factorization of K m,n and gave a sufficient condition for such a factorization to exist. In papers [K 1,k -factorization of complete bipartite graphs, Discrete Math., 259: 301-306 (2002),; K p,q -factorization of complete bipartite graphs, Sci. China Ser. A-Math., 47: (2004), 473-479], Du and Wang extended Wang’s result to the case that p and q are any positive integers. In this paper, we give a sufficient condition for λK m,n to have a K p,q -factorization. As a special case, it is shown that the necessary condition for the K p,q -factorization of λK m,n is always sufficient when p : q = k : (k + 1) for any positive integer k.

The k-core, defined as the maximal subgraph of minimum degree at least k, of the random graph G(n,p) has been studied extensively. In a landmark paper Pittel, Wormald and Spencer [J Combin Theory Ser B 67 (1996), 111–151] determined the threshold dk for the appearance of an extensive k-core. The aim of the present paper is to describe how the k-core is “embedded” into the random graph in the following sense. Let k≥3 and fix d=np>dk. Colour each vertex that belongs to the k-core of G(n,p) in black and all remaining vertices in white. Here we derive a multi-type branching process that describes the local structure of this coloured random object as n tends to infinity. This generalises prior results on, e.g., the internal structure of the k-core. In the physics literature it was suggested to characterize the core by means of a message passing algorithm called Warning Propagation. Ibrahimi, Kanoria, Kraning and Montanari [Ann Appl Probab 25 (2015), 2743–2808] used this characterization to describe the 2-core of random hypergraphs. To derive our main result we use a similar approach. A key observation is that a bounded number of iterations of this algorithm is enough to give a good approximation of the k-core. This paper adjusts conditions on new defined given the name {a, d, c; r} ctype of contraction mappings on complete quasi metric space, confirms that there is only one fixed of any of these mappings with these adjustments, extends and generalizes results given in some previous research papers, and then builds a convergence theorem for a sequence of fixed points of {Sn}n∈N;{wn*}n∈N to the unique fixed of S; w, provided that limn→∞ Sn(w) = S(w).

The paper studies the algorithmic complexity of subproblems for satisfiability in positive integers of simultaneous divisibility of linear polynomials with nonnegative coefficients. In the general case, it is not known whether this problem is in the class NP, but that it is in NEXPTIME is known. The NP-completeness of two series of restricted versions of this problem such that a divisor of a linear polynomial is a number in the first case, and a linear polynomial is a divisor of a number in the second case is proved in the paper. The parameters providing the NP-completeness of these problems have been established. Their membership in the class P has been proven for smaller values of these parameters. For the general problem SIMULTANEOUS DIVISIBILITY OF LINEAR POLYNOMIALS, NP-hardness has been proven for its particular case, when the coefficients of the polynomials are only from the set {1, 2} and constant terms are only from the set {1, 5}.
