The optimal repair of rigid mineralized tissues, such as bone, in cases of fracture, surgical resection, or prosthetic placement, is a complex process often necessitating the use of bone graft materials. Autogenous bone from the patient is generally the gold standard in terms of outcomes but also has disadvantages, which have resulted in extensive research in the field of tissue engineering to develop better and more convenient alternatives. In the dental field, several initiatives have demonstrated that the dentin material derived from extracted teeth produces excellent results in terms of repairing bone defects and supporting dental implants. Dentin is acellular and thus, in contrast to autogenous bone, cannot provide osteoblasts or other cellular elements to the grafted region, but it does contain growth and differentiation factors, and has other properties that make it an impressive material for bone repair. In this review, the beneficial properties of dentin and the ways it interacts with the host bone are described in the context of bone graft materials. Autogenous tooth material has limitations, particularly in terms of the need for tooth extraction and the limited amount available, which currently restrict its use to particular dental procedures. The development of a xenograft dentin-derived material, which retains the properties of autogenous dentin, is described. Such a material could potentially enable the use of dentin-derived material more widely, particularly in orthopedic indications where its properties may be advantageous. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Understanding the factors that affect how materials age is essential for creating a durable product with long-lasting properties. It is also important to prioritize defining aging parameters that reflect the real-world conditions the materials will encounter. For this study, a range of swimwear materials were selected consisting of a blend of polymer (polyamide/polyester) and elastane in varying ratios. In order to simulate aging conditions, materials were immersed in chlorinated outdoor pool water during the summer season, either in shade or the sun, for 200 and 300 h. The materials were tested for mass per unit area, thickness, tensile properties, and moisture management. A slight mass per unit area increase was observed, rising from 1.0% after 200 h of chlorine and sunlight exposure to 3.7% after 300 h. Thickness increased by 1.7% after 200 h and 3.2% after 300 h of chlorine exposure, with no significant effect of sunlight. Breaking force dropped by 12.4% after 200 h in chlorine and 8.2% in chlorine and sunlight, becoming more pronounced after 300 h (65.7% in chlorine and 65.1% in chlorine and sunlight). The overall moisture management capability declined from 0.4888 to 0.3457 after 200 h in chlorine and 0.3393 with sunlight, dropping further after 300 h to 0.3838 and 0.3253, respectively. Comminuted proximal humerus fractures are often repaired by metal plates, but potentially still experience bone refracture, bone "stress shielding," screw perforation, delayed healing, and so forth. This "proof of principle" investigation is the initial step towards the design of a new plate using alternative materials to address some of these problems. Finite element modeling was used to create design graphs for bone stress, plate stress, screw stress, and interfragmentary motion via three different fixations (no, 1, or 2 "kickstand" [KS] screws across the fracture) using a wide range of plate elastic moduli (EP = 5–200 GPa). Well‐known design optimization criteria were used that could minimize bone, plate, and screw failure (i.e., peak stress < ultimate tensile strength), reduce bone "stress shielding" (i.e., bone stress under the new plate ≥ bone stress for an intact humerus, titanium plate, and/or steel plate "control"), and encourage callus growth leading to early healing (i.e., 0.2 mm ≤ axial interfragmentary motion ≤ 1 mm; shear/axial interfragmentary motion ratio <1.6). The findings suggest that a potentially optimal configuration involves the new plate being manufactured from a material with an EP of 5–41.5 GPa with 1 KS screw; but, using no KS screws would cause immediate bone fracture and 2 KS screws would almost certainly lead to delayed healing. A prototype plate might be fabricated using alternative materials suggested for orthopedics and other industries, like fiber‐metal laminates, fiber‐reinforced polymers, metal foams, pure polymers, shape memory alloys, or 3D‐printed porous metals. Background Purpose Methods Results Conclusion Radiography is one of the most widely used x‐ray imaging modalities. In National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) Report No. 147, transmission data for radiographic systems were evaluated on those installed before 2000. For x‐ray systems (except intraoral dental) manufactured on or after June 10, 2006, the U.S. required minimum half‐value layer (HVL) was increased; for example, 2.9 (2.3) mm Al at 80 kV, where the value in parenthesis denotes the earlier requirement before the above date.To calculate the transmission of the broad x‐ray beam of modern digital radiography (DR) through shielding materials.X‐ray beam HVLs on two DR systems (Agfa DR 600, GE Revolution XR/d) were measured in 10 kV increments between 60 and 120 kV, with a calibrated ionization chamber (Radcal model 10 × 5‐60) and varying thickness of aluminum 1100 plates. Monte Carlo (Geant4) simulation was performed to calculate the transmission of broad x‐ray beams through lead, concrete, gypsum, and steel, with x‐ray HVLs matching those of the DR 600 at two beam filtrations (default, 1 mm Al plus 0.1 mm Cu added filtration). The transmission data were fitted to the Archer equation.HVLs on two DR systems with default beam filtration were consistent (median difference, 2.1%; maximum difference, 5.5%). An additional beam filtration option (1 mm Al plus 0.1 mm Cu) on the DR 600 substantially increased HVLs by 45.2%–61.2%. Transmission fitting parameters were provided for seven tube voltages (60–120 kV) at two beam filtrations. This work presents transmission data for modern DR systems, indicating increased x‐ray beam filtration compared to the primary x‐ray beam in NCRP Report No. 147. The updated transmission data can enhance structural shielding evaluations at individual tube voltages or with a workload distribution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article problematizes the ideals and norms surrounding the organization of environments for children. It investigates the understanding of the arrangement and organization of Early Childhood Education (ECE) environments, aiming to offer an alternative perspective on taken-for-granted assumptions about ideal environments for children. Using Foucault's conceptualization of discourse and power, the article examines how discursive practices shape and reshape norms and ideals of what constitutes a 'good' physical environment in ECE. Based on 145 texts published between 1969 and 2021 in an influential Swedish preschool teacher journal, the study analyzes systematic discourses on preschool environments. Key findings concern the environment's role in the governing of children. The discursive construction of ideal environments emphasizes a 'toy-free' setting with minimal framing and instruction, pointing to a discursive shift in the desired type of freedom for children: from the freedom to become a part of culture, to the freedom to change culture. - Abstract
As a viscous mycelium-substrate-composite, mycelia can be processed into more complex geometries in generative extrusion-based processes, even without molding tools. Biological transformation can also affect the properties of a printed object such that the mycelium still lives and grows after the 3D-build-process and changes the object over time. Depending on the substrate composition, type of fungus and growth conditions, different properties of the object can be manipulated. Different test geometries with corresponding preliminary characterization tests are shown. The present results demonstrate that test geometries could be successfully 3D printed with living mycelium material and manipulated during cultivation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Grounding enhancement material (GEM) is used to lower the earthing resistance value of a given earthing system. In this paper, a commercially available GEM is experimented at the field alongside with Sodium Chloride, Copper II Sulphate and planting soil. The well established Wenner's 4 pole method and fall of potential method was employed to measure the soil resistivity and earthing resistance respectively. It was found that the salts i.e., Sodium Chloride and Copper II Sulphate are superior in reducing the earthing resistance as reduction of more than 85% were observed. However, the commercial GEM has exhibited the most stable earthing resistance value over a period of 101 days, exhibiting the lowest standard deviation. This seems to suggest that the commercial GEM has superior moisture retention capability. This study also proven that Sodium Chloride can be dissolved by heavy downpour and replenishing it periodically is needed in a tropical country like Malaysia with regular thunderstorms and heavy downpours. Space efficiency in Singaporean tall buildings results from a complex interplay of historical, architectural, engineering, technological, socioeconomic, and environmental factors. The city-state's innovative and adaptive approach has enabled it to overcome the challenges associated with skyscraper construction, leading to the development of some of the most advanced and sustainable high-rise structures in the world. However, there is currently a lack of detailed analysis on space utilization in Singaporean high-rise buildings. This study addresses this gap by examining 63 cases. The main findings of this research: 1. Residential functions, central core layouts, and prismatic shapes are the most frequent. 2. Concrete material with a shear-walled frame system is the preferred structural choice. 3. Average spatial efficiency is 80%, and the core-to-GFA (Gross Floor Area) ratio averages 17%. These metrics vary from a minimum of 68% and 5% to a maximum of 91% and 32%, respectively. These insights offer valuable guidance for Singaporean construction professionals, particularly architects, helping them make informed design decisions for high-rise projects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• Effect of L/D ratios and swirl generator materials was analyzed and discussed. • Thermal separation was enhanced by low thermal diffusivity vortex generator. • Optimum L/D ratio and operating conditions were indicated by isentropic efficiency. • Non-metal swirl generator integrated with a metal vortex tube was recommended. The current research investigates the effects of the swirl generator material, the tube length to diameter (L/D) ratio, and the vortex tube housing material on its performance. Two vortex tube were designed and constructed using either stainless or brass. In addition to testing different materials for the housing, 5 different materials were examined as potential options for the swirl generator, including stainless steel, brass, polyamide, acrylic and wood. All were having nozzle number of 6. The study encompassed three main areas: examining the impact of various L/D ratios on an entirely stainless vortex tube (ESVT) and an entirely brass vortex tube (EBVT), exploring various swirl generator materials at an optimal L/D ratio for the stainless vortex tube and the brass vortex tube, and investigating the influence of an optimal swirl generator material with varying L/D ratios for the stainless and brass vortex tubes. Operating conditions were controlled for all tests, the natural refrigerant, compressed air was used, the inlet pressure was set to 3.0 bar and the cold mass fraction was varied from 0.40 to 0.90. The results revealed that the performance of the ESVT was greater than the EBVT. The best combination was the polyamide swirl generator and brass vortex tube with an L/D ratio of 19.0. This resulted in the maximum isentropic efficiency of 0.27 at a cold mass fraction of about 0.47. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

magical realism ,perception ,absence ,material ,non-material ,Language and Literature - Abstract
The magical realism artistically defines Latin America. The literature of this cultural area is marked by the dual rootedness of the mentalities of this geographical area. Pure materiality versus diaphanous absence, telling silence versus muffled noise, clear contours versus dilution of forms are all ways of literary or cinematographic representation of this form of artistic manifestation called realismo magico. La Casa de Los Espíritus is Isabel Allende’s debut novel and a literary work in which the undeniable elements of magical realism are present both in the construction of the plot, in the creation of the characters and in the recurring themes specific to this literary movement. Isabel Allende’s novel tells the story of the Trueba family in Latin America over four generations, with a historical background from the early 20th century to the 1970s. The narrator’s narrative act is doubled by another defining narrative for Clara, the youngest daughter of the del Valle family: the diary she keeps assiduously until the day she dies. This diary becomes one of Clara’s “voices” when she chooses muteness as a form of expression of rebellion. Clara, Blanca and Alba - feminine names with an obvious symbolism, referring to light, to the diaphanous - are the female figures that represent the generations around which the story is articulated, while the figure of Nivea, representing the first generation, is less well defined in Allende’s novel. Also built around female figures is Billie August’s screenplay, with Clara’s almost obsessive presence beyond silence or death. The aim of our paper is to approach a unique subject reflected, with the respective tools, in two different arts. Starting from a literary text, La Casa de Los Espíritus, by Isabel Allende, and from the dramatization of the book, in Bille August’s directorial vision, released by Miramax in 1993, we want to detect, classify and analyse different types of forms of absence and the ways of constructing and representing it, in the literary text and in the cinematographic transposition. We consider that absence, through the establishment of a two-faced world - the spoken and the unspoken, the seen and the unseen, the material and the non-material, the solid and the vague - is the recurrent, strong and defining theme for the framing of these artistic productions belonging to the artistic current of the magic realism. Absence can be actualized, for example, in muteness and silence, in death, in escape into the imaginary. Marked negatively, absence, however, establishes a meaning, conveyed precisely through the absence of signal (auditory, visual, tactile). Literary and cinematographic resources for the representation of absence are obviously different, and our work aims to approach them in parallel, in order to observe similarities and differences in the process of production and reception.

Abstract Shape bias, the tendency to link the meaning of words to the shape of objects, is a widely investigated phenomenon, but the extent to which it is linked to vocabulary acquisition and/or to tool using is controversial. Understanding how non-human animals generalize the properties of objects can provide insights into the evolutionary processes and cognitive mechanisms that influence this bias. We investigated object generalization in dogs, focusing on their tendency to attend to shape or texture in a two-way choice task. We analyzed data of thirty-five dogs that were successfully trained to discriminate a target object among distractors and retrieve it to their owner. In subsequent testing, dogs chose between objects similar to the target in either shape or texture. Results showed that dogs first approached objects of similar shape, but then predominantly chose objects of similar texture. This suggests a reliance on visual cues for initial assessment and tactile cues for final discrimination. Our findings highlight the influence of perceptual modalities on object generalization in dogs, showing that, before object manipulation, they seem to show a shape bias but, once they make physical contact with the objects, they rather rely on texture to generalize. This study contributes to our understanding of generalization in a non-verbal and non-tool using species and opens avenues for comparative investigations into the relationship between vocabulary acquisition, tool using and biases in object generalization.

Staircases, a part of architectural circulation and structure, can become a unique design value with the application technique that directs design and functionality. However, here, attention is drawn to the directive nature of the technique rather than its perception as a deterministic attitude in design. Bo Bardi’s architectonic approach has placed her in a distinguished position among modern architects. The effect of the architect’s staircase design and application technique on building tectonics is worth examining. Thus, this study aims to examine the staircases of Lina Bo Bardi, where design and technique are dissolved in integrity. Bo Bardi’s staircases were examined in terms of meaning, form, function, and technique, with classification for material use. In this context, unique situations were observed in the design and technical applications of reinforced concrete, wood, and metal materials used in stairs. The fact that the place, technique, and the architect’s thought guided the design turned the staircase into a symbolic value and has made the staircase the founding element of the space. This approach, which does not consider design and technique independently, creates a strong reference for today that structural elements such as stairs can be produced as symbols in space.

This report is intended to provide a foundation to debates which illustrate how geographers have approached the challenge of understanding something variously invisible and immaterial as the digital and its impacts on the production of space. Thus, this first report will focus on how geographers conceptualise digitally produced and mediated spaces. It will trace the way we have understood digital spaces from grappling with the dichotomies of online and offline, real and the virtual, to grounding them materially, rendering them visible, and to more recent shifts about their affective orientations. In the digital era, architectural designs can be quickly visualized. However, the material abstraction from digital visualization tools may reduce immersion and make it hard to recognize design intention. This paper discusses how architectural students acknowledge the design representation despite various ways of visualization. Material is key to visualizing architecture by adding realism, depth, and texture. People create mental concepts of material beyond words. Thus, design representations can have positive or negative impacts depending on how effectively the idea is delivered to the audience. This study uses a quantitative method to investigate the extent to which the preference technique of students represents the design’s idea. The study's main objective is to identify the criteria for representation that effectively convey the designer's intentions while minimizing visual deception. The analyzed data is classified into three archetypes consisting of (1) the student’s previous knowledge about representation, (2) the intention of design representation, and (3) mass and material in representation. The result shows no strict correlation between previous knowledge and the preferred idea representation technique. Yet, the result indicates a correlation between previous knowledge and techniques used to represent material. The photorealism technique is preferable in representing the clarity of material in representation. Photorealism has advantages in showing the quality of shade in the material. On the other hand, respondents tend to choose to use sketches to show information about scale and mass. The research comprehensively explains this phenomenon in the context of positive theory, particularly in design communication and representation.

Introduction: Plaster of Paris splints are commonly utilised for foot and ankle injuries. However, during follow-ups, some of these splints were found to be broken. Various methods, including splint form or augmentation changes, have been explored to enhance flexural strength. However, the impact of water temperature on the splint's flexural strength still needs to be studied. This research aimed to investigate the effect of water temperature on the flexural strength of the Plaster of Paris splint. Materials and methods: Three groups were set up based on different water temperatures: cold, hot, and room temperature. Posterior ankle splints were created and immersed in water at these varying temperatures, with five pieces tested per group. The splints were then allowed to harden fully over three days. Each splint underwent a tensile strength test using an axial pressure machine, which recorded their flexural strength data. Results: There were no statistically significant differences in the general characteristics of the splints. The flexural strengths of the three splint groups (pre-cooled, pre-heated, and room temperature) were 182.6N, 162.45N, and 228.91N, respectively. Statistical analysis revealed that room-temperature splints demonstrated a statistically significant increase in flexural strength compared to pre-heated splints (p

Abstract The Mu Us Sandy Land is a region characterized by wind-blown sand and soil erosion in northern China. To enhance the soil quality of this area, various organic materials were incorporated into the mixed soil at a volume ratio of 1:2 for feldspathic sandstone to sand. Culture was conducted in the field and under constant temperature conditions in laboratory culture chambers. Four treatments were established in the experiment, each calculated based on weight ratio and controlled (with no organic material added, CK); single application of straw (5% straw, P1); single application of biochar (5% biochar, P2); combined application of biochar and straw (5% biochar + 5% straw, P3). After 90 days of culture, soil samples were collected for analysis of various indicators such as soil aggregate particle size distribution, water stability of soil aggregates, mean weight diameter, mean geometric diameter, and fractal dimension using dry sieving and wet sieving methods. The objective is to establish a scientific basis and provide technical support for addressing the challenges associated with compound soil and implementing rational fertilization measures. The research results indicate that: (1) The quantity of aggregates > 0.25 mm under different treatments follows the order CK 0.25 (x) of compound soil, with a correlation coefficient of up to 0.9851. In conclusion, the incorporation of organic materials can effectively enhance the proportion of macroaggregates in compound soil consisting of Feldspathic sandstone and sand, thereby improving soil stability and erosion resistance. The optimal outcome is achieved through the combined application of biochar and straw. Indoor culture proves to be more effective than field culture, while wet sieving accurately reflects the structural characteristics of compound soil under both dry and wet sieving treatments.

Background: Skeletal muscle injury (SMI) is often treated conservatively, although it can lead to scar tissue formation, which impedes muscle function and increases muscle re-injury risk. However, effective interventions for SMIs are yet to be established. Hypothesis: The administration of Silk Elastin® (SE), a novel artificial protein, to the SMI site can suppress scar formation and promote tissue repair. Study design: A controlled laboratory study. Methods: In vitro: Fibroblast migration ability was assessed using a scratch assay. SE solution was added to the culture medium, and the fibroblast migration ability was compared across different concentrations. In vivo: An SMI model was established with Sprague–Dawley rats, which were assigned to three groups based on the material injected to the SMI site: SE gel (SE group; n = 8), atelocollagen gel (Atelo group; n = 8), and phosphate buffer saline (PBS group; n = 8). Histological evaluations were performed at weeks 1 and 4 following the SMI induction. In the 1-week model, we detected the expression of transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1 in the stroma using immunohistological evaluation and real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis. In the 4-week model, we measured tibialis anterior muscle strength upon peroneal nerve stimulation as a functional assessment. Results: In vitro: The fibroblast migration ability was suppressed by SE added at a concentration of 10⁴ μg/mL in the culture medium. In vivo: In the 1-week model, the SE group exhibited significantly lower TGFβ −1 expression than the PBS group. In the 4-week model, the SE group had a significantly larger regenerated muscle fiber diameter and smaller scar formation area ratio than the other two groups. Moreover, the SE group was superior to the other two groups in terms of regenerative muscle strength. Conclusion: Injection of SE gel to the SMI site may inhibit tissue scarring by reducing excessive fibroblast migration, thereby enhancing tissue repair. Clinical relevance: The findings of this study may contribute to the development of an early intervention method for SMIs.

Abstract The global scientific community is deeply concerned about the deterioration of water quality resulting from the release of industrial effluents. This issue is of utmost importance as it serves to safeguard the environment and combat water pollution. The objective of this work is to elaborate a biomaterial of vegetable origin, based on the twigs of Aleppo pine, and to use it as an abundant and less expensive material for the treatment of wastewater. For this reason, the twigs were treated physically to get the powder called biomaterial FPA (Aleppo pine fiber), which was characterized by physicochemical, and spectroscopic analyses namely scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The crystallinity index of FPA was evaluated by the peak height method. The findings indicate that the FPA powder has an acidic nature, exhibiting a porous structure that promotes the adsorption and binding of molecules. Additionally, it has a zero charge point of 5.8 and a specific surface area of 384 m2.g−1. It is primarily composed of hydroxyl, carboxyl, and amine functional groups, along with mineral compounds and organic compounds, including cellulose and other mineral elements such as Ca, Mg, Fe, Na, P, Al, K, Ni, and Mo. Combining these characteristics, FPA biomaterial has considerable potential for use as an effective adsorbent biomaterial for various wastewater pollutants. Its abundance and relatively low cost make it an attractive solution to the growing challenges of water pollution worldwide. Graphical Abstract

The material extrusion process has been widely used to manufacture custom products. However, the surface texture varies due to the additive mechanism of the process, which depends on the layer height and surface orientation, resulting in varying average surface roughness values for inclined, flat and vertical surfaces. Different strand welding conditions result in non-uniform internal stresses, surface distortions, layer traces, weak bonding, non-uniform pores and material overflow. This paper comprehensively examines material extrusion process achievements in surface texture quality and studies and summarises the most influential processing parameters. Parameter effects are critically discussed for each topic; flat, inclined, and vertical surfaces. The results of this research help reduce post-processing.

Introduction: Parents are fully responsible for the progress of their child, so they should be prepared as early as possible through prenatal education. In reality, antenatal classes focus mainly on pregnancy and childbirth. Materials and methods: This research and development (RND) study is focuses on producing educational classes for preparing for newborn care utilizing the ADDIE method. The study employed purposive sampling, and the sample size consisted of five couples and facilitators. Results: The researchers developed a programme to educate parents of newborn babies, which was tried out on five couples. The session has undergone several revisions, including the adding of material on myths and facts, identifying danger signs and what parents need to do, tips on successful breastfeeding for working mothers, and identifying problems and their solutions. Further improvements included creating educational materials for couples, adjusting seating arrangements to take into account the number of participants and space constraints, and incorporating seat cushions for mothers. Conclusion: The parenting class model as an innovation in newborn care education, tested in limited trials, can generally be applied according to the learning design. However, the model needs to be tested with a larger sample to serve as a reference for implementation in health facilities. In addition, it is necessary to add educational materials on myths about newborn care, practical issues in breastfeeding, and physiological complaints of newborns, as well as the addition of supportive equipment, namely comfortable chairs for pregnant women. PERIPHERALLY inserted central catheters - Abstract
Aim Design Methods Results Conclusion Reporting Method Patient or Public Contribution To explore the implementation contexts and strategies that influence the uptake and selection of alternative peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) materials and design.Qualitative evaluation of end user perspectives within a randomized control trial of different PICC materials and design.Semi‐structured interviews with key stakeholders were undertaken via an adapted, rapid‐analytic approach using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research. Outcomes were mapped against the Expert Recommendations for Implementing Change (ERIC) tool for strategies to guide innovation in PICC practice.Participants (n = 23) represented a combination of users and inserters/purchasers, from adult and paediatric settings. Dominant themes included intervention characteristics (intervention source), inner setting (structural characteristics) and individuals involved (self‐efficacy). Strategies emerging to support a change from ERIC mapping (n = 16) included promotion of intervention adaptability, inclusion of staff and consumer perspectives and sufficient funding. Implementation contexts such as inner setting and individuals involved equally impacted PICC success and implementation effectiveness and enabled a greater understanding of barriers and facilitators to intervention implementation in this trial.Trial evidence is important, but healthcare decision‐making requires consideration of local contexts especially resourcing. Implementation contexts for Australian healthcare settings include a practical, strategic toolkit for the implementation of alternative PICC materials and designs. This study adhered to COREQ guidelines. No patient or public contribution. The objective is to establish a scientific basis and provide technical support for addressing the challenges associated with compound soil and implementing rational fertilization measures. The research results indicate that: (1) The quantity of aggregates > 0.25 mm under different treatments follows the order CK < P1 < P2 < P3, and the differences between treatments are significant (P < 0.05); (2) Soil water stability, mean weight diameter (MWD), mean geometric diameter (GMD), and fractal dimension of soil aggregates in compound soil with different organic material additions are superior to the control, and the effect of biochar on improving soil aggregates is better than that of corn straw. The combined application of both significantly improves the effect compared to single applications. In both culture modes, under wet sieving, the P3 treatment shows the highest MWD and GMD of soil aggregates, with an increase ranging from 3.45% to 85% and 4.55% to 38.46%, respectively, compared to other treatments. (3) The trend of fractal dimension among treatments is consistent: P3 < P2 < P1 < CK, and the differences between treatments are significant (P < 0.05). Moreover, there is a good negative correlation linear equation relationship between the fractal dimension (y) and WR > 0.25 (x) of compound soil, with a correlation coefficient of up to 0.9851. In conclusion, the incorporation of organic materials can effectively enhance the proportion of macroaggregates in compound soil consisting of Feldspathic sandstone and sand, thereby improving soil stability and erosion resistance. The optimal outcome is achieved through the combined application of biochar and straw. Nitinol alloy is widely utilized across various industries due to its special properties. In this paper, the compound effects of two kinds of energy fields on material removal rate (MRR), hole wall quality, machining accuracy, and recast layer in ultrasonic combined magnetic field assisted EDM (UV-MFEDM were studied and analyzed. In addition, the influence of magnetic field intensity on the efficiency and accuracy of micro-hole machining is analyzed systematically. The results show that the surface quality of the micropore is significantly improved, the MRR is increased by 31.6%, the taper of the micropore is reduced by nearly 30%, the overcut diameter is reduced by nearly 23%, the recast layer is more uniform and the thickness of the recast layer is reduced by nearly half. Appropriate magnetic field intensity proves beneficial for improving micro-hole machining efficiency while reducing both taper angle and diameter overcut of micro-holes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Dual-energy CT (DECT) imaging has broadened the potential of CT imaging by offering multiple postprocessing datasets with a single acquisition at more than one energy level. DECT shows profound capabilities to improve diagnosis based on its superior material differentiation and its quantitative value. However, the potential of dual-energy imaging remains relatively untapped, possibly due to its intricate workflow and the intrinsic technical limitations of DECT. Knowing the clinical advantages of dual-energy imaging and recognizing its limitations and pitfalls is necessary for an appropriate clinical use. The aims of this paper are to review the physical and technical bases of DECT acquisition and analysis, to discuss the advantages and limitations of DECT in different clinical scenarios, to review the technical constraints in material labeling and quantification, and to evaluate the cutting-edge applications of DECT imaging, including artificial intelligence, qualitative and quantitative imaging biomarkers, and DECT-derived radiomics and radiogenomics. MECHANICAL behavior of materials , *YARN , *RF values (Chromatography) , *ABRASION resistance , *SURFACE roughness measurement , *SURFACE texture - Abstract
The mechanical properties of textile materials play a crucial role in determining their comfort, functionality, performance, safety, and aesthetics. Understanding and optimizing these properties is essential to meet consumer demands. Key aspects of mechanical properties, such as surface roughness, abrasion resistance, and compression, have a significant impact on the touch and durability of the material, as demonstrated by various research studies. This study focuses on analyzing the mechanical properties of materials produced of different polymer yarns and their changes under combined aging factors. The findings emphasize the significance of textile abrasion resistance and surface roughness measurement, particularly for aged materials. Although the use of recycled polyester yarn is sustainable and offers advantages such as higher tensile strength, the results have shown that the use of conventional polyester yarn is more advantageous overall as it has higher abrasion resistance, a smoother surface texture, and better elasticity retention after aging. The insights presented are vital for designing high-performance sportswear, which is crucial in today's competitive environment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The increasing number of Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) cases in Bandung, Indonesia, in July 2021 resulted in a higher hospital bed occupancy rate. The conversion of two student dormitory buildings into isolation shelters is expected to accommodate COVID-19 patients who do not have rooms in the hospital. This requires specific planning and innovation, particularly for materials. This study has two objectives: first, to evaluate how long coronaviruses can remain active on different material surfaces. The data collection strategy was carried out through Systematic Review. The second research objective was to design a COVID-19 isolation room that uses materials that facilitate the healing process. Field surveys and traditional literature reviews were conducted for this purpose. This study found that the virus did not survive long on the surfaces of cotton and cardboard. Thus, the room design uses these materials and is considered a biophilic design. This study is expected to provide insights for academics and researchers in interior design and architecture regarding the knowledge of furniture materials that prevent viruses from surviving longer. In addition, it is expected to inspire interior designers to design rooms that can help the healing process using a biophilic approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
