The article focuses on the introduction and overview of the CARbon IN the Atlantic (CARINA) data synthesis project. It highlights the original goal of the CARINA data synthesis project was to create a merged calibrated data set from open ocean subsurface measurements by European scientist that would be generally useful for biogeochemical investigations in the North Atlantic. It reports the next planned step for is to merge CARINA and Global Ocean Data Analysis Project (GLODAP).
