Antecedents: La dermatose erosive et pustuleuse est une entite clinique distinctive qui a ete decrite au niveau du cuir chevelu et du genou. Des erosions chroniques et superficielles, couvertes par une croute jaune, se developpent sur la peau atrophiee et fibreuse. Bien que le cuir chevelu soit le site le plus frequent, plusieurs cas de dermatose erosive et pustuleuse au niveau de la jambe ont ete notes. L'histopathologie est non specifique et la maladie est generalement consideree comme un diagnostic d'exclusion. Objectif et conclusion: Nous rapportons le cas de deux patients presentant une dermatose erosive et pustuleuse a la jambe. Le traitement aux agents antibacteriens et antifongiques n'a pas donne de resultats alors que les stetroides systemiques combines, dans un cas, au pimecrolimus topique et, dans l'autre, au clobetasol topique se sont averes efficaces. Nous pensons que cette affection n'a simplement pas recu l'attention necessaire d'ou les rares descriptions publiees a son sujet.

Moisturization of the skin is important for both medical and cosmetic purposes. The development of prescription device moisturizers, receiving 510K approval on the basis of the physical reduction in transepidermal water loss, provided a new dermatologic category. This investigator-blinded research utilized a split body model in 60 subjects to examine the effect of a traditional moisturizer as compared to a prescription device moisturizer in the treatment of mild to moderate symmetrical eczema of the arms or legs. This study demonstrated parity between the two moisturizers based on subject and investigator assessments.

Stewart-Bluefarb syndrome (SBS) is a subtype of pseudo-Kaposi sarcoma (PKS), which is associated with congenital arteriovenous malformation. It is a rare syndrome, characterized by cutaneous lesions with onset in the second decade of life. We report a case of SBS in a 33-year-old man presenting with a 15-year history of unilateral, reddish-brown, raised lesions on his right lower leg and the dorsum of his foot. Diagnosis of PKS was confirmed by histopathology and radiology. We report the clinical features, aetiopathogenesis, differential diagnosis and treatment of this rare condition.

Background. Keratoacanthoma centrifugum marginatum is a rare variety of keratoacanthoma, usually presented and classified as solitary keratoacanthoma. Reported cases of multiple keratoacanthoma centrifugum marginatum are exceptional in the literature. Observations. A 21-year-old man presented for evaluation of erythematous papules and plaques on both legs that had had a peripheral growth over the past year. Clinical and histologic examination showed typical features of keratoacanthoma centrifugum marginatum. Owing to the multiplicity and size of the lesions, treatment with oral isotretinoin was started. It was ineffective. Subsequent treatment with methotrexate combined with oral prednisone led to the regression of all lesions. Conclusions. The exceptional case of a man with multiple keratoacanthoma centrifugum marginatum is reported. Treatment with methotrexate combined with oral prednisone was effective. This case illustrates how some variants of keratoacanthomas do not really fit into the current classification and how complex the treatment of these tumors is.

The development of lichen amyloidosis in a patient with chronic lichen planus is reported. To our knowledge, this is the first report of the coexistence of these 2 diseases. The disparate response of the 2 conditions to etretinate is discussed.

Congenital cutaneous constriction bands are rare and often occur with other abnormalities, including the presence of rudimentary digits. This diverse syndrome lacks a precise definition and a satisfactory explanation. We describe two unusual cases with features previously undescribed, in which predominantly raised, annular limb bands became apparent postnatally. One infant was also born with foreshortened digits and a constricting limb band, suggesting a shared aetiology with other congenital cases. The development of raised bands during infancy would be difficult to reconcile with the widely held 'amniotic band hypothesis', and would be more in keeping with a multifocal developmental abnormality in limb growth.

Rarely, different variants of porokeratosis may coexist in an individual patient or their family members. A patient with the linear form of porokeratosis present since birth subsequently developed the disseminated superficial actinic form at a later age. A review of the literature pertaining to the coexistence of variants of porokeratosis suggests a significant association between the linear and disseminated superficial actinic forms. Genetic linkage between different variants and the basis for their association is discussed.

Patients with Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome may present with problems such as allergic contact dermatitis and ulceration. This case study explains how it should be diagnosed and treated.

We describe 3 professional footballers who developed lichenoid dermatitis over a short period of time. Clinically, the eruption in all 3 of them can be classified as lichenoid photodermatitis. We suggest an influence of possible contact allergens or photo-active substances. Histologic evidence points to features of classical lichen planus with purpura, typical of lichen aureus (purpuricus), but showing some clinical and morphological differences.

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) may occur as a purely cutaneous disorder, but is usually seen in adults with inflammatory bowel disease 1-3 or malignancy.a, 5 Although PG has been described in children with no underlying systemic disease, 6, 7 it has never been reported in association with Iracheitis. We describe a 9-month-old boy with PG in whom respiratory failure developed as a result of a noninfectious necrotizing tracheitis.

The atypical or environmental mycobacterial organisms constitute a large group of potential agents in the pathogenesis of cutaneous infection. The most commonly encountered mycobacterial infection after contact with water is Mycobacterium marinum. We report an unusual case of cutaneous mycobacterial infection caused by a newly described opportunistic mycobacteria, M. avium-intracellulare scrofulaceum intermediate. This case emphasizes the difficulty in distinguishing among the species M. avium-intracellulare, M. scrofulaceum, and M. gordonae.

SUMMARY Livedo reticularis is common as a symptomatic expression of underlying disease, or as an entity without discoverable cause. With livedo reticularis, leg ulceration of painful and intractible type can occur. A patient is described, in whom such ulcers improved rapidly and almost completely, with Azathioprine and Prednisolone therapy.

Une observation de pemphigoide bulleuse localisee du moignon chez un homme diabetique ampute d'une jambe (sous le genou)

Fourteen patients with longstanding lipodermatosclerosis of their lower legs, secondary to venous disease in 11, were treated for three months with stanozolol, a drug that enhances fibrinolytic activity. No other treatment was given and no change made in existing treatment. All the patients improved. Two were cured in three months, three were able to stop treatment in the next three to 11 months, and the other nine continued to improve. Fibrinolytic enhancement, with stanozolol, seems to be a worthwhile addition to the treatment of venous liposclerosis and deserves further study.

Summary A case of thyrotoxicosis presenting with periodic paralysis and later complicated by acropachy, pretibial myxoedema and transient atrial fibrillation is described. This association has not been reported previously. Possible aetiological links are discussed.

Three cases of eczematous dermatitis of the knees are reported in three children who had been wearing Sears, Roebuck and Co. Toughskin® and/or Roughhouser® jeans with knee patches for several months. All had strong positive patch tests to epoxy resin (Epon® 825) from the standard screening patch test tray and to pieces of the knee patches. Although Sears initially denied that “epoxy resin” was present in the knee patch adhesive, it was later confirmed that 4,4-isopropylidene diphenyl epichlorohydrin (Epon® 828) was present. In 2 of the 3 patients patch-tested to Epon® 828, results were positive, one test at a concentration of 1:20,000. The epoxy resin had been added to the knee patch adhesive as an adhesion promoter. Sears has now substituted a nonepoxy adhesive for the knee patch of their jeans.
