Distinguishing between Parkinson's disease (PD) and essential tremor (ET) can be challenging sometimes. Although positron emission tomography can confirm PD diagnosis, its application is limited by high cost and exposure to radioactive isotopes. Patients with PD exhibit loss of the dorsal nigral hyperintensity on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Novel MRI-based approaches, including susceptibility map-weighted imaging (SMwI), allow visualization of the dorsal nigral hyperintensity at an increased resolution. Herein, we investigated the diagnostic accuracy of dorsal nigral hyperintensity evaluation on SMwI for distinguishing tremor-dominant PD from ET. Consecutive patients with tremor who underwent SMwI and were diagnosed with tremor-dominant PD or ET between July 2021 and July 2022 were enrolled. The dorsal nigral hyperintensity loss on SMwI was compared between the PD and ET groups. All 143 patients (100%) with tremor-dominant PD showed unilateral or bilateral dorsal nigral hyperintensity loss. Among 136 patients with ET, 131 (96.3%) exhibited an intact dorsal nigral hyperintensity, while 5 (3.7%) showed unilateral/bilateral dorsal nigral hyperintensity loss. SMwI discriminated between tremor-dominant PD and ET with a sensitivity and specificity of 100% and 96.3%, respectively. 18F-FP-CIT PET revealed normal findings in 4/5 patients with ET who had false-positive results on SMwI. Purpose: To evaluate deep learning–based segmentation models for oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) using CT and MRI with nnU-Net. Methods: This single-center retrospective study included 91 patients with OPSCC. The patients were grouped into the development (n = 56), test 1 (n = 13), and test 2 (n = 22) cohorts. In the development cohort, OPSCC was manually segmented on CT, MR, and co-registered CT-MR images, which served as the ground truth. The multimodal and multichannel input images were then trained using a self-configuring nnU-Net. For evaluation metrics, dice similarity coefficient (DSC) and mean Hausdorff distance (HD) were calculated for test cohorts. Pearson's correlation and Bland–Altman analyses were performed between ground truth and prediction volumes. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) of radiomic features were calculated for reproducibility assessment. Results: All models achieved robust segmentation performances with DSC of 0.64 ± 0.33 (CT), 0.67 ± 0.27 (MR), and 0.65 ± 0.29 (CT-MR) in test cohort 1 and 0.57 ± 0.31 (CT), 0.77 ± 0.08 (MR), and 0.73 ± 0.18 (CT-MR) in test cohort 2. No significant differences were found in DSC among the models. HD of CT-MR (1.57 ± 1.06 mm) and MR models (1.36 ± 0.61 mm) were significantly lower than that of the CT model (3.48 ± 5.0 mm) (p = 0.037 and p = 0.014, respectively). The correlation coefficients between the ground truth and prediction volumes for CT, MR, and CT-MR models were 0.88, 0.93, and 0.9, respectively. MR models demonstrated excellent mean ICCs of radiomic features (0.91–0.93). Conclusion: The self-configuring nnU-Net demonstrated reliable and accurate segmentation of OPSCC on CT and MRI. The multimodal CT-MR model showed promising results for the simultaneous segmentation on CT and MRI. Clinical relevance statement: Deep learning–based automatic detection and segmentation of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma on pre-treatment CT and MRI would facilitate radiologic response assessment and radiotherapy planning. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), prevalent among conditions like obesity and diabetes, is globally significant. Existing ultrasound diagnosis methods, despite their use, often lack accuracy and precision, necessitating innovative solutions like AI. This study aims to validate an AI-enhanced quantitative ultrasound (QUS) algorithm for NAFLD severity assessment and compare its performance with Magnetic Resonance Imaging Proton Density Fat Fraction (MRI-PDFF), a conventional diagnostic tool. A single-center cross-sectional pilot study was conducted. Liver fat content was estimated using an AI-enhanced quantitative ultrasound attenuation coefficient (QUS-AC) of Barreleye Inc. with an AI-based QUS algorithm and two conventional ultrasound techniques, FibroTouch Ultrasound Attenuation Parameter (UAP) and Canon Attenuation Imaging (ATI). The results were compared with MRI-PDFF values. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was also assessed. Significant correlation was found between the QUS-AC and the MRI-PDFF, reflected by an R value of 0.95. On other hand, ATI and UAP displayed lower correlations with MRI-PDFF, yielding R values of 0.73 and 0.51, respectively. In addition, ICC for QUS-AC was 0.983 for individual observations. On the other hand, the ICCs for ATI and UAP were 0.76 and 0.39, respectively. Our findings suggest that AC with AI-enhanced QUS could serve as a valuable tool for the non-invasive diagnosis of NAFLD. Mutations in the SACS gene are associated with autosomal recessive spastic ataxia of Charlevoix-Saguenay disease (ARSACS) or complex clinical phenotypes of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT). This study aimed to identify SACS mutations in a Korean CMT cohort with cerebellar ataxia and spasticity by whole exome sequencing (WES). As a result, eight pathogenic SACS mutations in four families were identified as the underlying causes of these complex phenotypes. The prevalence of CMT families with SACS mutations was determined to be 0.3%. All the patients showed sensory, motor, and gait disturbances with increased deep tendon reflexes. Lower limb magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed in four patients and all had fatty replacements. Of note, they all had similar fatty infiltrations between the proximal and distal lower limb muscles, different from the neuromuscular imaging feature in most CMT patients without SACS mutations who had distal dominant fatty involvement. Therefore, these findings were considered a characteristic feature in CMT patients with SACS mutations. Although further studies with more cases are needed, our results highlight lower extremity MRI findings in CMT patients with SACS mutations and broaden the clinical spectrum. Purpose: To evaluate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings for distinguishing ovarian lymphomas from other solid ovarian tumors. Methods: This retrospective multicenter study included 14 women (median age, 46.5 years; range, 26–81 years) with surgically proven ovarian lymphoma and 28 women with solid ovarian tumors other than lymphoma. We conducted a subjective image analysis of factors including laterality, shape, composition, T2 signal intensity (SI), heterogeneity, diffusion restriction, enhancement, and presence of peripheral follicles. A generalized estimating equation was used to identify MRI findings that could be used to distinguish ovarian lymphomas from other solid ovarian tumors. Diagnostic performance of the identified MRI findings was assessed using the area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve (AUC). Results: Ovarian lymphoma more frequently showed homogeneous high SI on T2-weighted imaging (81.8% vs. 19.4%, P < 0.001) and peripheral ovarian follicles (40.9% vs. 8.3%, P = 0.01) than other ovarian solid tumors did. Bilaterality, shape, size, diffusion restriction, and enhancement did not differ between the two groups (P > 0.05 for all). Homogeneous high SI on T2-weighted imaging was the only independent MRI finding (OR = 15.19; 95% CI 3.15–73.33; P = 0.001) in the multivariable analysis. Homogeneous high SI on T2-weighted imaging yielded an AUC of 0.82 with a sensitivity of 81.8% and specificity of 80.6% in distinguishing ovarian lymphomas from other solid ovarian tumors. Conclusion: Homogeneous high signal intensity on T2-weighted imaging was helpful in distinguishing ovarian lymphomas from other solid ovarian tumors. Radiation-induced lung fibrosis (RILF) is a common complication of radiotherapy in lung cancer. However, to date no effective treatment has been developed for this condition. NXC736 is a novel small-molecule compound that inhibits NLRP3, but its effect on RILF is unknown. NLRP3 activation is an important trigger for the development of RILF. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the therapeutic effect of NXC736 on lung fibrosis inhibition using a RILF animal model and to elucidate its molecular signaling pathway. The left lungs of mice were irradiated with a single dose of 75 Gy. We observed that NXC736 treatment inhibited collagen deposition and inflammatory cell infiltration in irradiated mouse lung tissues. The damaged lung volume, evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging, was lower in NXC736-treated mice than in irradiated mice. NXC736-treated mice exhibited significant changes in lung function parameters. NXC736 inhibited inflammasome activation by interfering with the NLRP3-ASC-cleaved caspase-1 interaction, thereby reducing the expression of IL-1β and blocking the fibrotic pathway. In addition, NXC736 treatment reduced the expression of epithelial–mesenchymal transition markers such as α-SMA, vimentin, and twist by blocking the Smad 2,3,4 signaling pathway. Purpose: To investigate the relationship between sagittal plane characteristics of the spinal column and conservative treatment failure in acute osteoporotic spinal fractures (OSFs). Methods: As a retrospective study of single-institute data, thoracolumbar OSF patients with similar propensities in terms of location of fractures and results of bone mineral density were analyzed. Among them, 43 patients (group I) who needed reconstructive surgical interventions and 39 patients (group II) who obtained successful treatment through conservative care were included. General demographic data, radiographic features of fractures, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features of fractures were analyzed. To investigate the relationship between global sagittal alignment of the spine and occurrence of delayed complication following OSFs, radiological sagittal parameters were analyzed. Results: The number of cases requiring reconstructive surgery was significantly higher when the index vertebra showed diffuse or mid-portion bone marrow changes in MRI. In terms of sagittal parameters, pelvic incidence (group I 59.1° ± 11.9°, group II 54.6° ± 9.8°) and thoracolumbar angle (group I 26.5° ± 14.1°, group II 17.4° ± 11.2°) were significantly higher in group I. Logistic regression analysis showed that higher pelvic incidence (OR 1.09, 95% CI 1.01–1.18, p value < 0.05) and higher thoracolumbar angle (OR 1.09, 95% CI 1.02–1.17, p value < 0.05) were significant risk factors for delayed complications requiring reconstructive surgery following OSFs. Conclusion: Delayed complications requiring reconstructive surgery following OSFs are related to sagittal plane parameters of the spine such as high pelvic incidences, in addition to previously known radiographic characteristics of fractures. Background: Recent biomechanical studies have reported that stress on the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) graft increases as the posterior tibial slope (PTS) decreases (flattened) in knees with single-bundle (SB) and double-bundle PCL reconstruction. Clinical studies of SB PCL reconstruction have shown that a flattened PTS is associated with a lesser reduction in posterior tibial translation. There is no long-term study on the clinical outcomes and graft survival rates of SB PCL reconstruction based on the medial and lateral PTSs measured on magnetic resonance imaging. Hypothesis: Flattened medial and lateral PTSs are associated with poor clinical outcomes and graft survival rates at a minimum 10-year follow-up after SB PCL reconstruction. Methods: In this cohort study, we retrospectively reviewed 46 patients (mean age, 28.8 ± 9.9 years) who underwent primary SB PCL reconstruction between 2000 and 2009. They were followed up for a minimum of 10 years. The medial and lateral PTSs were measured on preoperative magnetic resonance imaging. As a previous study reported that a steeper medial or lateral PTS showed a higher risk of anterior tibial translation at thresholds of 5.6° and 3.8°, respectively, the patients were divided into 2 groups based on the cutoff values of both the medial (≤5.6° vs >5.6°) and lateral (≤3.8° vs >3.8°) PTSs. Clinical scores (International Knee Documentation Committee subjective score, Lysholm score, and Tegner activity score), radiological outcomes (side-to-side difference [SSD] on stress radiography and osteoarthritis progression), and graft survival rates were compared between the groups at the last follow-up. Results: All clinical scores and the progression of osteoarthritis demonstrated no significant difference between the 2 subgroups of both the medial and lateral PTS groups. The mean SSD on stress radiography after SB PCL reconstruction was significantly greater in patients with a medial PTS ≤5.6° than in patients with a medial PTS >5.6° (8.4 ± 3.9 vs 5.1 ± 2.9 mm, respectively; P =.030), while the lateral PTS subgroups after SB PCL reconstruction demonstrated no significant difference. The minimum 10-year graft survival rate was significantly lower in patients with a medial PTS ≤5.6° (68.4% vs 92.6%, respectively; P =.029) and a lateral PTS ≤3.8° (50.0% vs 91.7%, respectively; P =.001). Conclusion: A flattened medial PTS (≤5.6°) was associated with an increased SSD on stress radiography, and both flattened medial (≤5.6°) and lateral (≤3.8°) PTSs resulted in lower graft survival rates at a minimum 10-year follow-up after primary SB PCL reconstruction. Objective: There is a paucity of large cohort-based evidence regarding the need and added value of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in patients attending outpatient clinic for cognitive impairment. We aimed to evaluate the diagnostic yield of DWI in patients attending outpatient clinic for cognitive impairment. Materials and methods: This retrospective, observational, single-institution study included 3,298 consecutive patients (mean age ± SD, 71 years ± 10; 1,976 women) attending outpatient clinic for cognitive impairment with clinical dementia rating ≥ 0.5 who underwent brain MRI with DWI from January 2010 to February 2020. Diagnostic yield was defined as the proportion of patients in whom DWI supported the diagnosis that underlies cognitive impairment among all patients. Subgroup analyses were performed by age group and sex, and the Chi-square test was performed to compare the diagnostic yields between groups. Results: The overall diagnostic yield of DWI in patients with cognitive impairment was 3.2% (106/3,298; 95% CI, 2.6–3.9%). The diagnostic yield was 2.5% (83/3,298) for acute or subacute infarct, which included recent small subcortical infarct for which the diagnostic yield was 1.6% (54/3,298). The diagnostic yield was 0.33% (11/3,298) for Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), 0.15% (5/3,298) for transient global amnesia (TGA), 0.12% (4/3,298) for encephalitis and 0.09% (3/3,298) for lymphoma. There was a trend towards a higher diagnostic yield in the older age group with age ≥ 70 years old (3.6% vs 2.6%, P =.12). There was an incremental increase in the diagnostic yield from the age group 60–69 years (2.6%; 20/773) to 90–99 years (8.0%; 2/25). Conclusion: Despite its low overall diagnostic yield, DWI supported the diagnosis of acute or subacute infarct, CJD, TGA, encephalitis and lymphoma that underlie cognitive impairment, and there was a trend towards a higher diagnostic yield in the older age group. The aim of the present study was to predict amyloid-beta positivity using a conventional T1-weighted image, radiomics, and a diffusion-tensor image obtained by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We included 186 patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) who underwent Florbetaben positron emission tomography (PET), MRI (three-dimensional T1-weighted and diffusion-tensor images), and neuropsychological tests at the Asan Medical Center. We developed a stepwise machine learning algorithm using demographics, T1 MRI features (volume, cortical thickness and radiomics), and diffusion-tensor image to distinguish amyloid-beta positivity on Florbetaben PET. We compared the performance of each algorithm based on the MRI features used. The study population included 72 patients with MCI in the amyloid-beta-negative group and 114 patients with MCI in the amyloid-beta-positive group. The machine learning algorithm using T1 volume performed better than that using only clinical information (mean area under the curve [AUC]: 0.73 vs. 0.69, p < 0.001). The machine learning algorithm using T1 volume showed better performance than that using cortical thickness (mean AUC: 0.73 vs. 0.68, p < 0.001) or texture (mean AUC: 0.73 vs. 0.71, p = 0.002). The performance of the machine learning algorithm using fractional anisotropy in addition to T1 volume was not better than that using T1 volume alone (mean AUC: 0.73 vs. 0.73, p = 0.60). Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) produces high-resolution of hard tissue even in small voxel size, but the process is associated with radiation exposure and poor soft tissue imaging. Thus, we synthesized a CBCT image from the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), using deep learning and to assess its clinical accuracy. We collected patients who underwent both CBCT and MRI simultaneously in our institution (Seoul). MRI data were registered with CBCT data, and both data were prepared into 512 slices of axial, sagittal, and coronal sections. A deep learning-based synthesis model was trained and the output data were evaluated by comparing the original and synthetic CBCT (syCBCT). According to expert evaluation, syCBCT images showed better performance in terms of artifacts and noise criteria but had poor resolution compared to the original CBCT images. In syCBCT, hard tissue showed better clarity with significantly different MAE and SSIM. This study result would be a basis for replacing CBCT with non-radiation imaging that would be helpful for patients planning to undergo both MRI and CBCT. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The oligomeric amyloid‐β (oAβ) is a reliable feature for an early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Therefore, the objective of this study was to demonstrate imaging of oAβ deposits using our developed DNA aptamer called ob5 conjugated with gadolinium (Gd)‐dodecane tetraacetic acid (DOTA) as a contrast agent for early diagnosis of AD using MRI. An oAβ‐specific aptamer was developed by amide bond formation and conjugated to Gd‐DOTA MRI contrast agent and/or cyanine5 (cy5). We verified the performance of our new contrast agent with an AD mouse model using in vivo and ex vivo fluorescent imaging and animal MRI experiments. The presence of soluble Aβ in 3xTg AD mice was detected using GdDOTA‐ob5‐cy5 probe ex vivo. Fluorescence intensities of the GdDOTA‐ob5‐cy5 contrast agent were high in the brains of 3xTg‐AD mice, but relatively low in the brains of control mice. The GdDOTA‐ob5 contrast agent had higher relaxivity than a clinically available contrast agent. T1‐weighted MRI signals in 5‐month‐old 3xTg AD mice increased at 5 min, were prolonged until 10 min, then decreased 15 min after injecting the GdDOTA‐ob5 contrast agent. Our targeted DNA aptamer GdDOTA‐ob5 contrast agent could be potentially useful for validating the efficacy of a novel diagnostic contrast agent for selectively targeting neurotoxic oAβ. Study Design: Retrospective case-control study. Objectives: The aim of this study was to develop a simple and reliable imaging parameter to predict postoperative ambulatory status in patients with metastatic epidural spinal cord compression (MESCC). Methods: Sixty-three patients with MESCC underwent spine surgery because of neurologic deficits were included. On preoperative axial MRI, the cord compression ratio was analyzed for postoperative ambulatory status. The relationship between other imaging features, such as fracture of the affected vertebra and increased T2 signal intensity of the spinal cord at the compression level, and the postoperative ambulatory status were also analyzed. Results: Cord compression ratio and increased T2 signal change of the spinal cord were significantly different between the postoperative ambulatory group and the non-ambulatory group. Receiver operating characteristic analysis showed that the optimal cut-off value was 0.84. In the multivariate regression analysis, only a cord compression ratio of more than 0.84 was significantly associated with postoperative ambulatory status (odds ratio = 10.80; 95% confidence interval = 2.79-41.86; P =.001). Interobserver/intraobserver agreements were strong for the cord compression ratio, however those agreements were weak for increased T2 signal intensity. Conclusions: On preoperative MRI, the cord compression ratio may predict postoperative ambulatory status in patients with MESCC. The measurement of this imaging parameter was simple and reliable. Background: Anatomic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) is preferred over nonanatomic ACLR. However, there is no consensus on which point the tunnels should be positioned among the broad anatomic footprints. Purpose/Hypothesis: To identify the ideal combination of tibial and femoral tunnel positions according to the femoral and tibial footprints of the anteromedial (AM) and posterolateral (PL) anterior cruciate ligament bundles. It was hypothesized that patients with anteromedially positioned tunnels would have better clinical scores, knee joint stability, and graft signal intensity on follow-up magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) than those with posterolaterally positioned tunnels. Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: A total of 119 patients who underwent isolated single-bundle ACLR with a hamstring autograft from July 2013 to September 2018 were retrospectively investigated. Included were patients with clinical scores and knee joint stability test results at 2-year follow-up and postoperative 3-dimensional computed tomography and 1-year postoperative MRI findings. The cohort was divided into 4 groups, named according to the bundle positions in the tibial and femoral tunnels: AM-AM (n = 33), AM-PL (n = 26), PL-AM (n = 29), and PL-PL (n = 31). Results: There were no statistically significant differences among the 4 groups in preoperative demographic data or postoperative clinical scores (Lysholm, Tegner, and International Knee Documentation Committee subjective scores); knee joint stability (anterior drawer, Lachman, and pivot-shift tests and Telos stress radiographic measurement of the side-to-side difference in anterior tibial translation); graft signal intensity on follow-up MRI; or graft failure. Conclusion: No significant differences in clinical scores, knee joint stability, or graft signal intensity on follow-up MRI were identified between the patients with anteromedially and posterolaterally positioned tunnels. Background: Recent advances in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may allow it to be an alternative emerging tool for the non-invasive evaluation of renal parenchymal disease. Purpose: To validate the usefulness of quantitative multiparametric MRI protocols and suggest the suitable quantitative MR sequence protocol to evaluate parenchymal fibrosis using an animal model of chronic kidney disease (CKD) by long-term adenine intake. Material and Methods: In this prospective animal study, 16 male Wistar rats were analyzed and categorized into three groups. Rats in the CKD groups underwent 0.25% adenine administration for three or six weeks. Quantitative MRI protocols, including diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), T1ρ (T1 rho), and T2* mapping were performed using a 9.4-T animal MR scanner. A semi-quantitative histopathologic analysis for renal fibrosis was conducted. Quantitative MR values measured from anatomic regions of kidneys underwent intergroup comparative analyses. Results: The apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and T1 (T1 rho) values were significantly increased in all CKD groups. Values measured from the cortex and outer medulla showed significant intergroup differences. Total ADC values tended to increase according to periods, and T1ρ values increased in three weeks and decreased in six weeks. Conclusion: Quantitative MRI protocols could be a non-invasive assessment modality in the diagnosis and evaluation of CKD. In brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), white matter hyperintensity (WMH) is a commonly encountered finding and is known to reflect cerebral small vessel disease. The aim of our study was to investigate the association of coronary artery calcium (CAC) with WMH and elucidate the relationship between WMH and atherosclerotic risk factors in a large-scale healthy population. This retrospective study included 1337 individuals who underwent brain MRI and CAC scoring computed tomography at healthcare centers affiliated with a tertiary hospital. Cerebral WMH was defined as Fazekas score greater than 2 on brain MRI. Intracranial artery stenosis (ICAS) was also assessed and determined to be present when stenosis was more than 50% on angiography. The associations of risk factors, CAC score, and ICAS with cerebral WMH were assessed by multivariable regression analysis. In multivariable analysis, categories of higher CAC scores showed increased associations with both periventricular and deep WMHs in a dose-dependent relationship. The presence of ICAS was also significantly related to cerebral WMH, and among the clinical variables, age and hypertension were independent risk factors. In conclusion, CAC showed a significant association with cerebral WMH in a healthy population, which might provide evidence for referring to the CAC score to identify individuals with risk of cerebral WMH. Purpose: The 5-year postoperative failure rate of conventional shunt treatment for syringomyelia is 50%, with arachnoditis, shunt obstruction, and shunt malfunction being the most common causes. We report a new syringo-cisterna magna (SCM) shunt that allows syrinx cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) drainage normally into the cerebellomedullary cisterns through the subarachnoid space. Methods: Between November 2012 and February 2017, six patients (mean age: 57.25 years; sex: four male and two female) received the SCM shunt. They had spinal cord injury, abscess formation after a spine operation, and cerebral meningitis-related syringomyelia (syrinx between C0 and T9), and presented sensory changes and motor weakness. Preoperatively and at 1 year postoperatively, the syrinx length and diameter were assessed using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Clinical outcomes were evaluated using the visual analog scale (VAS) and Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) scores. Results: Motor weakness improved, pain subsided, and sensory disturbance resolved in all patients who returned to work within 6 weeks postoperatively. In all cases, the syrinx collapsed (length: 3.3 levels decreased; diameter: decreased from 7.90 to 4.64 mm, p = 0.046) on postoperative MRI. No patient experienced syrinx recurrence and shunt malfunction on MRI or showed spinal instability signs on plain radiography. The VAS (pre- vs post-shunt: 6.50 vs 3.83, p = 0.027) and JOA scores (pre- vs post-shunt: 10.00 vs 11.17, p = 0.167) were improved postoperatively. Conclusion: We developed a new shunting system allowing syrinx CSF drainage to the posterior fossa, with symptomatic improvement, minimal complications, and syrinx decrease on follow-up MRI. We have developed chelator-free copper-64-incorporated iron oxide (IO) nanoparticle (NPs) which have both magnetic and radioactive properties being applied to positron emission tomography (PET)-magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We have found that the IO nanoparticles composed of radioactive isotope 64Cu may act as a contrast agent being a diagnostic tool for PET as well as a good T2 MRI nanoprobe due to their good r2/r1 ratio. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the 64Cu incorporation at the core of core-shell-structured IO NPs exhibits a good in vivo stability, giving us an insightful strategy for the design of a contrast agent for the PET-MRI system. Due to their important phylogenetic position among extant vertebrates, sharks are an invaluable group in evolutionary developmental biology studies. A thorough understanding of shark anatomy is essential to facilitate these studies and documentation of this iconic taxon. With the increasing availability of cross-sectional imaging techniques, the complicated anatomy of both cartilaginous and soft tissues can be analyzed non-invasively, quickly, and accurately. The aim of this study is to provide a detailed anatomical description of the normal banded houndshark (Triakis scyllium) using computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) along with cryosection images. Three banded houndsharks were scanned using a 64-detector row spiral CT scanner and a 3 T MRI scanner. All images were digitally stored and assessed using open-source Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine viewer software in the transverse, sagittal, and dorsal dimensions. The banded houndshark cadavers were then cryosectioned at approximately 1-cm intervals. Corresponding transverse cryosection images were chosen to identify the best anatomical correlations for transverse CT and MRI images. The resulting images provided excellent detail of the major anatomical structures of the banded houndshark. The illustrations in the present study could be considered as a useful reference for interpretation of normal and pathological imaging studies of sharks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
