The antiparallel current‐induced spin polarization (CISP) in an inversion‐symmetric double‐quantum‐well structure with the antiparallel Rashba effective magnetic field is calculated by solving the Boltzmann equation which is derived for the distribution operator in layer‐pseudospin space in the relaxation‐time approximation. The antiparallel CISP in an analytical form, obtained for constant momentum relaxation time in the limit of large Fermi energy, exhibits factor‐two increase with increasing the interlayer‐tunneling strength. This increase originates from the correction (to the semiclassical CISP) created by the subband mixing due to the momentum dependence of the Rashba effective magnetic field. The present interlayer‐coupling dependence of the antiparallel CISP is successfully explained as the layer‐pseudospin Hanle effect in which the spin in the original Hanle effect is replaced by the layer pseudospin. The present finding suggests that the correction by band mixing can be significant in the transport properties of various systems with the momentum‐dependent effective magnetic field. Recently, experimental 2D magnetic CrSe2 and CrTe2 inspired the study on their Janus CrSeTe, which breaks the mirror symmetry of Cr–Se(Te)–Cr. However, the CrSeTe monolayer possesses a lower Curie temperature and the in-plane magnetic anisotropy, and few works concerned both its zigzag- and stripy-antiferromagnetic states, which are crucial to determine the magnetic ground state and magnetic transition temperature. In this Letter, using first-principles calculations and Monte Carlo simulations, we systematically explore the strain, carrier-doping, and electric field effects on magnetic and electronic properties of monolayer CrSeTe. We demonstrate that monolayer CrSeTe preserves ferromagnetism in a large range of whether strain or doping. The estimated Curie temperature can be increased from 167 K to the room-temperature by the combination of 4% tensile strain and 0.1 e doping due to the enhanced ferromagnetic Cr–Se(Te)–Cr super-exchange interaction. Interestingly, either a small tensile strain (1%) or a low hole doping (0.025 h) can induce the transition of the easy axis from in-plane to out-of-plane due to the increased out-of-plane magnetic anisotropy from hybridized pz and py orbitals of Te atoms. In addition, the spin polarization is improved by over 60% by the tensile strain. Our results suggest that small strain and low carrier-doping induced room-temperature ferromagnetism, large out-of-plane magnetic anisotropy, and high spin polarization make CrSeTe useful in 2D spintronic applications and will stimulate broad studies on the regulation of magnetic and electronic properties of this class of magnetic Janus monolayers. The transport properties, containing the spin polarization and transmission probability, theoretically have been investigated on the exposure of an exterior magnetic field for single-layer phosphorene superlattice using the transfer matrix method. We illustrated that by controlling incoming energy, external magnetic field, or through varying the distance between two barriers, the number of barriers, and its thickness, spin transmission probabilities for phosphorene superlattice can be adjusted. The results have shown that the most transmission probability in the attendance of an exterior magnetic field happened for 5 barriers, as well as the transmission probability reduces by raising the width of the separation in the barriers for a specific magnetic field. As well, an electron beam whose spin polarization is zero can be converted into an ideal efficiency spin polarization by controlling the external magnetic field, which has a substantial role in qubit circuits. High-performance and stable spintronic devices have garnered considerable attention in recent years. Based on first-principle and Monte Carlo calculations, we demonstrate that under reasonable carrier doping, H-VSe2 exhibits 100% spin polarization, a magnetic anisotropy energy of 581 μeV, a tunable easy-axis, and a Curie temperature of 330 K. Moreover, Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interactions in H-VSe2 and magnetic hysteresis loops are determined theoretically for the first time, which provides more precise and comprehensive descriptions of its magnetic properties under finite temperatures and external magnetic field. The spin-dependent conductance and spin polarization are investigated theoretically in a phosphorene superlattice in the presence of external magnetic field and Rashba interaction. It is demonstrate that, the spin-dependent conductance with and without spin-flip as well as spin polarization can be effectively controlled by changing the magnetic field strength and the number of the superlattice barriers. For small magnetic field strength, the conductance for with and without spin-flip shows an oscillating behavior as increasing the strength of the Rashba interaction, and by increasing the number of barriers, the oscillating behavior becomes prominent. Further, when the magnetic field is greater than a limit value, the spin conductance will be zero. The size of the spin-dependent transmission window in the phosphorene superlattice under external magnetic field decreases drastically. We investigate plasmon properties in a double-layer graphene structure under the effects of an in-plane external magnetic field within the zero-temperature random-phase approximation. Numerical calculations demonstrate that two plasmon modes exist in the system, corresponding to in-phase and out-of-phase oscillations of charges. The spin polarization number P affects the optical and acoustic plasmon modes and their decay rate differently. As the polarization number increases, the frequency of the acoustic mode slightly decreases while that of the optical mode significantly increases. Besides, the existence of an external magnetic field expands the single-particle-excitation area of the system; therefore, plasmon modes become damped at a smaller wave vector, compared to those in the case of unpolarized systems. The separation between two layers increases (decreases) the plasmon frequency of the acoustic (optical) mode. Finally, we found that background dielectric inhomogeneity decreases the energy and decay rate of plasmon modes of the spin-polarized system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Manipulation of the magnetization by spin‐orbit torque (SOT) stands as a crucial advancement in spintronics due to its merits in energy‐efficient and high‐speed operation. However, the conventional SOT devices involving a heavy metal/ferromagnet cannot deterministically switch the perpendicularly magnetized ferromagnet without an external magnetic field, which hinders its practical implementation. Here, room temperature field‐free switching for perpendicularly magnetized ferromagnets is demonstrated using spin currents with the out‐of‐plane spin polarization induced by noncollinear antiferromagnets L12‐Mn3Ir. Both in‐plane and out‐of‐plane spin polarizations are observed, and the tilting angle of the spin polarization is estimated to be ≈10°. The spin Hall conductivity of out‐of‐plane spin is 1.43 × 104 ћ/2e·Ω−1m−1, which is the largest among several 2D and antiferromagnetic materials, including WTe2, RuO2, and Mn3GaN. Furthermore, field‐free SOT switching is demonstrated with an ns‐current pulse, and the current density is comparable with the reported values of the field‐assisted pulse switching. We address the temperature influence on the precessional motion of electron spins under a transverse magnetic field, studied in GaAs/AlGaAs triple quantum wells, using pump-probe Kerr rotation. In the presence of an applied in-plane magnetic field, the TRKR measurements show the robustness of carrier's spin polarization against temperature, which can be easily traced in an extended range up to 250 K. By tuning the pump-probe wavelength to the exciton bound to a neutral donor transition, we observed a remarkably long-lasting spin coherence (with dephasing time T 2 * > 14 ns) limited by the spin hopping process and exchange interaction between the donor sites, as well as the ensemble spread of the g-factor. The temperature dependent spin dephasing time revealed a double linear dependence due to the different relaxation mechanisms active in respective temperature ranges. We observed that the increase in sample temperature from 5 K to 250 K leads to a strong T 2 * reduction by almost 98%/97% for the excitation wavelengths of 823/821 nm. Furthermore, we noticed that the temperature increase not only causes the reduction of spin lifetime, but can also lead to the variation of the electron g-factor. A theoretical study is performed for the single-photon creation of an electron–positron pair in an external magnetic field. We present general expressions for process rates that are valid for arbitrarily high field strengths. Simple analytical expressions are obtained in the limiting cases of weak and strong fields. The emphasis is placed on the investigation of the spin alignment of the created particles as a function of the incident photon polarization and magnetic field strength. Understanding the electronic transport properties of low-dimensional devices has increased dramatically in recent decades, especially for those with a promising future for application in nanotechnology. Among these nanoscopic systems are molecular systems, particularly organic molecules such as catechol, representing the small piece of a potential conductor assembled through larger biomolecules and inserted between two or more metal contacts. In this work, we present a theoretical description of the electronic transport of catechol, based on its π -conjugated aromatic system, under an external magnetic field stimulus, which is transverse to the alignment of the molecule. Thus, we analyze catechol's spintronic properties through the magnetoresistance generated by this field. We model the molecule using a tight-binding Hamiltonian and Green's functions; the transmission probability is calculated by means of the Fisher-Lee relation, and the characteristic current–voltage, spin polarization, and magnetoresistance curves based on Landauer's approach for two linking models of catechol to the metallic contacts. The results suggest a strong dependence on the spin direction of the charge carriers and the Zeeman energy (E z) on the Fermi level, generating a switch-like mechanism going from conducting to semiconducting material. The employment of spin polarization under an external magnetic field holds great potential for the improvements of photocatalytic performance. However, owing to the huge difference in dielectric properties between ferromagnetic oxide and polymers, the photogenerated excitons with spin states are often limited to the ferromagnetic oxide wells, which leads to unsatisfactory activity. In this paper, a single-atom Co-doped C3N4 photocatalyst is successfully synthesized for photocatalytic water splitting and simultaneous oxidation of benzylamine. Under a tiny external magnetic field (24.5 mT), the hydrogen production rate could reach at 3979.0 µmol·g−1·h−1, which is about 340 times that of C3N4. Experimental results and theoretical calculations indicate that the interaction of Co d and N p orbital changes the symmetry center of C3N4, resulting in an increase in dielectric constant and spin polarization. Moreover, magnetic fields further promote parallel electron spin, and the increased number of charges with the parallel spin-down state is likely to dissociate under the action of an external magnetic field. On the other hand, the Co-N bond provides a huge built-in electric field and active site for strengthening the charge transfer and surface reaction. Electron transport through a variety of helical structures has been shown to exhibit high-efficiency spin filtering, which is called chirality-induced spin selectivity (CISS). In this paper, we consider a helical chain of atomic p orbitals, which has been employed as a model in exploring the mechanism of CISS in previous theories, and show that the interatomic hopping along the helical chain induces an effective magnetic field (EMF) acting on the atomic orbital angular momentum (OAM). In chains where the curvature and torsion of the helix are small, we find that the EMF on the binormal component of the atomic OAM is created by the curvature, while that on the tangential component is produced by the torsion. We show that such coupling of the atomic OAM and the interatomic hopping leads to current-induced orbital and spin polarizations. We expect that the present coupling, which is expressed locally, can be used to estimate orbital and spin polarizations locally induced in molecules and solids. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Spin to pseudo-spin conversion by which the non-equilibrium normal sublattice pseudo-spin polarization could be achieved by magnetic field has been proposed in graphene. Calculations have been performed within the Kubo approach for both pure and disordered graphene including vertex corrections of impurities. Results indicate that the normal magnetic field B z produces pseudo-spin polarization in graphene regardless of whether the contribution of vertex corrections has been taken into account or not. This is because of non-vanishing correlation between the σ z and τ z provided by the co-existence of extrinsic Rashba and intrinsic spin–orbit interactions which combines normal spin and pseudo-spin. For the case of pure graphene, valley-symmetric spin to pseudo-spin response function is obtained. Meanwhile, by taking into account the vertex corrections of impurities the obtained response function is weakened by several orders of magnitude with non-identical contributions of different valleys. This valley-asymmetry originates from the inversion symmetry breaking generated by the scattering matrix. Finally, spin to pseudo-spin conversion in graphene could be realized as a practical technique for both generation and manipulation of normal sublattice pseudo-spin polarization by an accessible magnetic field in a easy way. This novel proposed effect not only offers the opportunity to selective manipulation of carrier densities on different sublattice but also could be employed in data transfer technology. The ferrimagnetic Heusler compound Mn(2)VGa is predicted to have a pseudogap in the majority spin channel, which should lead to a negative tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR). We synthesized epitaxial Mn(2)VGa thin films on MgO(001) substrates by dc and rf magnetron co-sputtering, resulting in nearly stoichiometric films. XRD analysis revealed a mostly B2 ordered structure for the films deposited at substrate temperatures of 350, 450, and 550 °C. Magnetic tunnel junctions with MgO barriers and CoFe counter-electrodes were fabricated. After post-annealing at up to T(a) = 425 °C negative TMR was obtained around zero bias, providing evidence for inverted spin polarization. The band structures of both electrodes were computed within the coherent potential approximation and used to calculate the TMR(V) characteristics, which were in good agreement with our experimental findings.

We theoretically study the magnetic phase transition of condensed exciton-polariton microcavities in an applied magnetic field. When the magnetic field is strong, all polariton spins are polarized parallel to the magnetic field as usual. On the contrary, in the weak magnetic-field region, the polariton polarization degree is negative, namely, anti-parallel to the magnetic field. For a strong magnetic field, the magnetic phase of the polaritons arises and leads to a paramagnetic, while around a weak magnetic field, with zero exciton–photon detunings, and weak Rabi splitting the spin polarization of the polaritons leads to a diamagnetic. Thus, magneto-polariton phase transition polarization originates from the competition between the polariton Zeeman effect and polariton–polariton interactions. Moreover, the polariton polarization strongly depends on the exciton–photon detuning and Rabi splitting and has a large negative value as they are both small. The exciton properties of (Cd,Mn)Se-NrGO (nitrogen doped reduced graphene oxide) hybrid layered nanosheets have been studied in a magnetic field up to 10 T and compared to those of (Cd,Mn)Se nanosheets. The temperature dependent photoluminescence reveals the hybridization of inter-band exciton and intra-center Mn transition with enhancement of the binding energy of exciton-Mn hybridized state (80 meV with respect to 60 meV in (Cd,Mn)Se nanosheets) and increase of exciton—phonon coupling strength to 90 meV (with respect to 55 meV in (Cd,Mn)Se nanosheets). The circularly polarized magneto—photoluminescence at 2 K provides evidence for magnetic field induced exciton spin polarization and the realization of excitonic giant Zeeman splitting with geff as high as 165.4 ± 10.3, much larger than in the case of (Cd,Mn)Se nanosheets (63.9 ± 6.6), promising for implementation in spin active semiconductor devices. The use of spontaneous electron spin polarization in nonmagnetic semiconductors avoids the transport challenges of electron spin injection from magnetic materials as well as packing constraints of small magnets in a dense array. Although the focus of rearch on the spontaneous spin polarization of electrical current has been on spin-orbit fields and their effects, in principle a moving electron gas can be unstable to forming spin-polarized distributions via carrier scattering processes that are independent of the carrier spin. The two required elements for such current-induced spin polarization without spin-orbit interactions are (1) the presence of built-in spatially-varying electric fields, either naturally forming (as in the Gunn effect) or extrinsic (as in a junction with spatially dependent doping) and (2) energy-dependent carrier scattering processes. As spin-orbit interactions are not required for this effect, it should occur in inversion-symmetric materials like silicon that lack zero-field spin splittings and materials like zinc oxide and gallium nitride that lack significant spin-orbit interactions. Antiferromagnetic materials are expected to trigger the revolution of spintronic applications because they are robust against the perturbation of magnetic fields, produce no stray fields, and display ultrafast dynamics. To design antiferromagnetic devices, the generation and manipulation of spin-polarized current in antiferromagnetic materials are vital. Unfortunately, it has long been believed that spin-polarized current could not be achieved in collinear antiferromagnetic materials because of the symmetry of spin sublattices. Inspired by the possibility of breaking the symmetry using a bias voltage, a special Au/NiO/Au junction is proposed and constructed along the [111] direction of NiO using the collinear NiO antiferromagnetic insulator as a prototype. It was found that the symmetry of spin sublattices was broken by an external bias, which induces a nonequivalent transport for spin-up and spin-down currents, that is, the appearance of spin-polarized current. Unexpectedly, this study found that the magnitude and sign of spin polarization could be adjusted by varying the bias. A positive spin polarization up to 80% was obtained at ∼ 0.9 V, and the spin polarization turned negative when the bias voltage was beyond 1.6 V. The related physical mechanisms were explored and clarified by analyzing spin-resolved transmission, kǁ-resolved density of states, and layer-resolved local density of states of Au/NiO/Au, etc. The effects of NiO layer thicknesses, different electrodes, and interfacial disorders on the spin polarization were also analyzed and found to offer promising applications. This study provides new physical insight into spin-polarized current transport in collinear antiferromagnetic materials and greatly contributes to the development of novel antiferromagnetic spintronic devices. An experimental and computational optical pump-probe model is constructed, which utilizes two ultrafast pump pulses within the repetition period of a mode-locked laser to generate electron spin polarization. This report focuses on the effects of resonant spin amplification induced by an infinite train of the two-pump pulses. The first pump pulse is used to generate ordinary resonant spin amplification spectra, while the second pump pulse is used to manipulate the generated spectra. This model gives control of the accumulation of spin polarized electrons along a magnetic field by selecting the temporal separation of the two-pump pulses. The computational model accurately predicts and agrees with the experimental results, which shows manipulation of resonant spin peaks that are no longer entirely dependent on the external magnetic field. This two-pump model and the associated manipulations of resonant spin peaks can be used as a platform to construct and conceptualize resonant spin amplification-based optospintronic devices and applications. Coherent polarization transfer effects in a coupled spin network have been studied over a wide field range. The transfer mechanism is based on exciting zero-quantum coherences between the nuclear spin states by means of non-adiabatic field jump from high to low magnetic field. Subsequent evolution of these coherences enables conversion of spin order in the system, which is monitored after field jump back to high field. Such processes are most efficient when the spin system passes through an avoided level crossing during the field variation. The polarization transfer effects have been demonstrated for N-acetyl histidine, which has five scalar coupled protons; the initial spin order has been prepared by applying RF-pulses at high magnetic field. The observed oscillatory transfer kinetics is taken as a clear indication of a coherent mechanism; level crossing effects have also been demonstrated. The experimental data are in very good agreement with the theoretical model of coherent polarization transfer. The method suggested is also valid for other types of initial polarization in the spin system, most notably, for spin hyperpolarization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Solar‐to‐chemical energy conversion thorugh photocatalytic technology has garnered significant attention due to its potential for clean hydrogen pro duction, pollutant degradation, and carbon dioxide reduction. However, its relatively low solar‐to‐chemical conversion efficiency hinders its industrial development. External fields have currently emerged as a supplementary energy source to augment the overall catalytic efficiency. Recently, the photocatalytic performance has been considerably enhanced through magnetic field modulation, which promotes the separation and transfer of photoexcited charge carriers. This article systematically reviews the recent research progress of magnetic field–assisted photocatalysis, discussing phenomena such as the negative magnetoresistance effect, Lorentz force, and spin polarization. It comprehensively analyzes the effect of magnetic fields on critical processes in photocatalysis: light absorption, charge‐carrier separation, and surface reactions. In particular, this review focuses on the spin‐relaxation mechanism, explains how the electron lifetime is extended through spin polarization, and proposes design strategies for spin‐polarized materials. Finally, this review discusses the challenges and potential opportunities for enhancing photocatalytic efficiency. The ultimate objective of this review is to offer notable theoretical and experimental insights that can guide the design and development of high‐performance photocatalysts and photocatalytic systems. Molecular spin systems based on photoexcited triplet pairs formed via singlet fission (SF) are attractive as carriers of quantum information because of their potentially pure and controllable spin polarization, but developing systems that offer optical routes to readout as well as initialization is challenging. Herein, we characterize the electron spin magnetic resonance change in the photoluminescence intensity for a tailored organic molecular crystal while sweeping a microwave drive up to 10 GHz in a broadband loop structure. We observe resonant transitions for both triplet and quintet spin sublevel populations showing their optical sensitivity and revealing the zero-field parameters for each. We map the evolution of these spectra in both microwave frequency and magnetic field, producing a pattern of optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) peaks. Fits to these data using a suitable model suggest significant spin polarization in this system with orientation selectivity. Unusual excitation intensity dependence is also observed, which inverts the sign of the ODMR signal for the triplet features, but not for the quintet. These observations demonstrate optical detection of the spin sublevel population dictated by SF and intermolecular geometry, and highlight anisotropic and multi-scale dynamics of triplet pairs. First, I study the analogy between the magnetization of a material and the spin polarization of particles in a fluid. Using the relativistic version of the Barnett effect, i.e. the magnetization of a material induced by mechanical rotation, the spin polarization induced by thermal vorticity is obtained within a purely classical model, where spin is treated as an intrinsic magnetic moment and rotation is included as a non-inertial effect. I argue that since spin polarization induced by thermal vorticity can be obtained in a classical theory, it can not be dominated by quantum anomalies. Second, the spin polarization induced by magnetic field is obtained for a fluid at local thermal equilibrium using statistical quantum field theory. The obtained formula is valid beyond the weak field approximation and when contributions from the non-homogeneity of the magnetic field are small. The exact form of spin polarization is studied for a free Dirac field at global equilibrium, and, like magnetic susceptibility, it oscillates according to the de Haas - van Alphen effect. Finally, I briefly review how magnetic field contributes to the difference between the spin polarization of Λ and Λ ¯ observed in heavy-ion collisions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Since the charge transport has a sensitive property near the boundary, the GH shift and spin polarization are reexamined with a parallel double barrier magnetic nanostructure. It shows there exists a much stronger GH shift and spin polarization when the transmitted wave vector is much closer to zero by modulating the magnetic fields strength and incident energy. Furthermore, the influence on spin polarization is studied by changing the angle between two magnetic fields. It revealed that a stable spin polarization can be obtained by changing angle under some specific applied voltage and incident energies. Our results indicate a need for caution in boundary condition and tuning of angle. These interesting properties may provide good ideas to design and fabricate a spin beam splitters or filters. In high density quark matter under a strong external magnetic field, possible phases are investigated by using the two-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model with tensor-type four-point interaction between quarks, as well as the axial-vector-type four-point interaction. In the tensor-type interaction under the strong external magnetic field, it is shown that a quark spin polarized phase is realized in all regions of the quark chemical potential under consideration within the lowest Landau level approximation. In the axial-vector-type interaction, it is also shown that the quark spin polarized phase appears in the wide range of the quark chemical potential. In both the interactions, the quark mass in zero and small chemical potential regions increases which indicates that the chiral symmetry breaking is enhanced, namely the magnetic catalysis occurs. The spin polarization features of an electron system and the relaxation of nonequilibrium spin excitations near an even-denominator fractional state of 3/2 in a two-dimensional electron system based on the GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure are experimentally investigated. It is shown that the 3/2 state is a singular point in the filling factor dependence of the spin ordering of the two-dimensional electron system, at which the spin subsystem is rearranged. A giant slowing down of the relaxation of spin excitations to the ground state is revealed in a certain range of filling factors near filling factor 3/2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper deals with the study of coexisting majority and minority components in thin ferromagnetic film which is magnetically stripped by applying external magnetic field in selected regions. There occurs continuous transition from ferromagnetic barriers to a coexisting phase separated region through the formation of a depletion layer. Formation of magnetic barriers, channels and step like structure have been explored. Temperature induced two regime behavior is observed - first one dominated by the ferroic nature of the film and the second one by the paramagnetic nature of film. Two sizes of lattice in 3 dimensions of 100 × 100 × 100 and 200 × 100 × 100 are used for Monte Carlo simulation using Ising model with Metropolis algorithm. The spin polarization, average magnetization and spin correlation functions are plotted to reveal the underlying physics. Out-of-plane spin polarization σz has attracted increasing interests of researchers recently, due to its potential in high-density and low-power spintronic devices. Noncollinear antiferromagnet (AFM), which has unique 120° triangular spin configuration, has been discovered to possess σz. However, the physical origin of σz in noncollinear AFM is still not clear, and the external magnetic field-free switching of perpendicular magnetic layer using the corresponding σz has not been reported yet. Here, we use the cluster magnetic octupole in antiperovskite AFM Mn3SnN to demonstrate the generation of σz. σz is induced by the precession of carrier spins when currents flow through the cluster magnetic octupole, which also relies on the direction of the cluster magnetic octupole in conjunction with the applied current. With the aid of σz, current induced spin-orbit torque (SOT) switching of adjacent perpendicular ferromagnet is realized without external magnetic field. Our findings present a new perspective to the generation of out-of-plane spin polarizations via noncollinear AFM spin structure, and provide a potential path to realize ultrafast high-density applications. Rationally designing of highly efficient electrocatalysts is critical to improving hydrogen production by water electrolysis. However, bottlenecks still require consideration when optimizing the intrinsic performance of electrocatalysts. Applying appropriate external fields to catalytic systems may effectively overcome such bottlenecks and enhance the performance of catalysts. Among various external fields, the magnetic field has received extensive attention owing to its multifunctionality, non‐contact nature, and non‐invasiveness, thereby requiring more research and development. In this review, recent advances in magnetic field‐assisted water electrolysis are systematically outlined. Firstly, the diverse methods used for pre‐regulating catalysts under magnetic fields, including optimized nucleation, induction heating, and directed growth, are discussed. It then explores the effects of magnetic fields on electrochemical processes, including magnetothermal, magnetohydrodynamic, and induced electric impact. Then, the influences of magnetic fields on the intrinsic properties of catalysts, such as spin polarization and spin reconstruction effects, are addressed. Finally, a discussion of the potential perspectives of magnetic field‐enhanced water splitting, including catalyst design, experimental precision, and in situ characterization, are then provided to guide further research. Coupled pairs of nuclear spin-1/2 support one singlet state and three triplet states. Transitions between the singlet state and one of the triplet states may be driven by an oscillating low-frequency magnetic field, in the presence of couplings to a third nuclear spin, and a weak bias magnetic field. The oscillating field is in the same direction as the bias field and is called a WOLF (Weak Oscillating Low Field) pulse. Application of a WOLF pulse allows for the generation of strong nuclear hyperpolarization of 13C nuclei, starting from the nuclear singlet polarization of a 1H spin pair, associated with the enriched para-spin isomer of hydrogen gas. Relationship between FeCo crystalline orientation and magnetic properties of TbFeCo/FeCo/Ta trilayer films was investigated. FeCo crystalline orientation could be controlled by changing FeCo deposition rate. Ferromagnetic Hall effect observation clarified that perpendicular component of magnetization in FeCo layer of TbFeCo/FeCo(001)/Ta were better than that of TbFeCo/FeCo(110)/ Ta. Lattice spacing of both FeCo(001) films and FeCo(110) ones in the TbFeCo(50 nm)/FeCo (X nm) was also observed. Expansion ratios of FeCo(001) toward film normal direction were higher than that of FeCo(110) as increasing FeCo film thickness, and this indicated that FeCo(001) films were more favorable for magnetic coupling with rare-earth transition metal (RE-TM) alloy films than FeCo(110) ones when FeCo films become thick. However investigation of relationship between FeCo expansion ratios and magnetic properties of TbFeCo/FeCo(001) or (110) (X nm)/Ta trilayer films showed that squareness ratios of specimens with FeCo(001) were worse than that with FeCo(110). The N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor is a prominent player in brain development and functioning. Perturbations to its functioning through external stimuli like magnetic fields can potentially affect the brain in numerous ways. Various studies have shown that magnetic fields of varying strengths affect these receptors. We propose that the radical pair mechanism, a quantum mechanical process, could explain some of these field effects. Radicals of the form [Formula: see text], where R is a protein residue that can be Serine or Tyrosine, are considered for this study. The variation in the singlet fractional yield of the radical pairs, as a function of magnetic field strength, is calculated to understand how the magnetic field affects the products of the radical pair reactions. Based on the results, the radical pair mechanism is a likely candidate for explaining the magnetic field effects observed on the receptor activity. The model predicts changes in the behaviour of the system as magnetic field strength is varied and also predicts certain isotope effects. The results further suggest that similar effects on radical pairs could be a plausible explanation for various magnetic field effects within the brain., (© 2024. The Author(s).)

The magnetic field is one of the widely used external stimuli to manipulate magnetic skyrmions. On the other hand, the skyrmion Hall effect can force the skyrmion to move perpendicular to the driving direction, which may lead to the annihilation of the skyrmion at the sample edge. Here, we study a skyrmion guide based on a nanotrack, where the skyrmion is controlled by the spin-transfer torque or spin–orbit torque in the presence of an in-plane field. The effects of spin-torque parameters, spin polarization directions, and magnetic field with an appropriate magnitude on the skyrmion motion are explored. Both static and dynamic properties of the skyrmion are demonstrated through micromagnetic simulations. We study the time evolution of the survival probability and the spin polarization of a dissipative nondegenerate two-level system in the presence of a magnetic field in the Faraday configuration. We apply the Extended Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble approach to model the stochastic system-environment interaction and calculate the survival and spin polarization to first and second order of the interaction picture. We present also the time evolution of the thermal average of these quantities as functions of the temperature, the magnetic field, and the energy-levels density, for ρ(ϵ)∝ϵs, in the subohmic, ohmic, and superohmic dissipation forms. We show that the behavior of the spin polarization calculated here agrees rather well with the time evolution of spin polarization observed and calculated, recently, for the electron-nucleus dynamics of Ga centers in dilute (Ga,N)As semiconductors. The giant magnetoresistance (GMR) of a point contact between a Co/Cu multilayer and a superconductor tip varies for different bias voltage. Direct measurement of spin polarization by Andreev reflection spectroscopy reveals that the GMR change is due to a change in spin polarization. This work demonstrates that the GMR structure can be utilized as a spin source and that the spin polarization can be continuously controlled by using an external magnetic field. Magnetic field and temperature dependence of the magneto‐conductance (MC) of thin films made of self‐p‐doped poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) having room temperature conductivity of ≈200 S cm−1 in the range of fields B = 0–14 T and temperatures T = 1.8–300 K are reported. At B = 0 and for current parallel to the film surface, the conductance follows a variable range hopping mechanism in two dimensions. It is shown that the finite Coulomb correlations, U, within the nano‐crystalline PEDOT islands dominates MC at low temperatures and high fields. At T = 1.8 K, the intra‐island Coulomb correlation spin polarization mechanism is already saturated for B > 10 T establishing a finite minimum of ≈2 meV for U. This small value of U is in line with the delocalized nature of the holes within the PEDOT islands and the relatively high conductivity that makes it essential in organic opto‐electronics. ULTRASPIN is an apparatus devoted to the measurement of the spin polarization (SP) of electrons ejected from solid surfaces in a UHV environment. It is designed to exploit ultrafast light sources (free electron laser or laser high harmonic generation) and to perform (photo)electron spin analysis by an arrangement of Mott scattering polarimeters that measure the full SP vector. The system consists of two interconnected UHV vessels: one for surface science sample cleaning treatments, e-beam deposition of ultrathin films, and low energy electron diffraction/AES characterization. The sample environment in the polarimeter allows for cryogenic cooling and in-operando application of electric and magnetic fields. The photoelectrons are collected by an electrostatic accelerator and transport lens that form a periaxial beam that is subsequently directed by a Y-shaped electrostatic deflector to either one of the two orthogonal Mott polarimeters. The apparatus has been designed to operate in the extreme conditions of ultraintense single-X-ray pulses as originated by free electron lasers (up to 1 kHz), but it allows also for the single electron counting mode suitable when using statistical sources such as synchrotron radiation, cw-laser, or e-gun beams (up to 150 kcps). Electric field control of magnetic properties has been achieved across a number of different material systems. In diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMSs), ferromagnetic metals, multiferroics, etc., electrical manipulation of magnetism has been observed. Here, we study the effect of an electric field on the carrier spin polarization in DMSs (GaAsMn); in particular, emphasis is given to spin-dependent transport phenomena. In our system, the interaction between the carriers and the localized spins in the presence of electric field is taken as the main interaction. Abstract: We present a model based on quantum Langevin equation for degree of spin polarization of the light emitted from GaAs LED. Using this model the effect of electron–phonon interaction on spin polarization at constant magnetic field and room temperature is investigated. Variation of degree of polarization with temperature and magnetic field for different values of electron–phonon interaction is also studied. We investigate the magnetic properties of La2/3Sr1/3MnO3 (LSMO) membranes released from an SrTiO3 (STO) substrate by selectively etching an Sr4Al2O7 sacrificial buffer layer. The magnetic moment and Curie temperatures (TC) of the released LSMO membranes improve significantly over their substrate-bound counterparts. We attribute these enhancements to suppressing strain and oxygen octahedral rotations that are present in substrate-bound films. Moreover, comparing the magnetic hysteresis loops obtained with magnetic fields applied along several crystallographic orientations demonstrates enhanced (weakened) perpendicular (in-plane) magnetic anisotropy in the released LSMO membranes. Magnetic field‐enhanced electrocatalytic activity has recently emerged as an effective strategy for electrocatalytic reactions. However, modulating the electrical behavior and spin ordering in real‐time using magnetic field during the electrocatalytic process remains challenging. Herein, based on the coexistence of room‐temperature ferromagnetic and magnetoresistance (MR) properties in La1−xSrxMnO3, it demonstrates that in addition to spin polarization, the negative MR effect contributes significantly to the enhancement of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) owing to the considerable MR value (−7.32% for La0.8Sr0.2MnO3 at 1.0 T). Accordingly, a lessened OER overpotential of ≈120 mV (at 10 mA cm−2) and a reduced charge‐transfer resistance are observed in La0.8Sr0.2MnO3 under a magnetic field of 1.0 T. Additionally, the power density of self‐assembled Zn–air battery (ZnAB) based on La0.8Sr0.2MnO3 improves by 5.9 times under 1.0 T. Calculation results reveal that spin alignment can induce more unoccupied electronic states near the Fermi level, decrease the energy level of the Mn d‐band center, and significantly reduce the O* formation barrier to enhance the OER activity of Sr‐doped LaMnO3. Thus, the in situ regulation of charge and spin ordering by magnetic field offers a deeper understanding for designing high‐performance ZnABs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Light and magnetic field‐dependent carrier transport properties of ITO/La0.7Sr0.3MnO3(LSMO)/CuPc/Au (Device A) and p‐Si/Zn0.3Ni0.7Fe2O4(ZNFO)/CuPc/Au (Device B) heterostructure devices are investigated. Current (I)–voltage (V) response indicates efficient carrier tunneling through LSMO/CuPc and ZNFO/CuPc interface of the respective devices. Carrier injection (EF‐HOMO) with tunneling may be present at low bias for Device B, due to small band offset thereby leading to small nonlinearity in I–V curves. Light‐dependent measurements indicate efficient photocurrent generation aided by Frankel exciton generation at CuPc bulk and subsequent separation at LSMO/CuPc interface for Device A. Magnetic field‐dependent scattering both at LSMO/CuPc interface and LSMO bulk has been observed from impedance measurements. Positive magnetoresistance at low bias indicates high degree of positive spin polarization within ZNFO/CuPc interface, at room temperature. ZNFO/CuPc interface resistance reduces with field due to enhanced tunneling owing to reduction in depth of defect states. However, increase in ZNFO bulk resistance has been attributed to increase in interfacial polarization with magnetic field. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and transport measurements have been performed at high magnetic fields and low temperatures in a series of n-type Bi2Se3 crystals. In low-density samples, a complete spin polarization of the electronic system is achieved, as observed from the saturation of the isotropic component of the 209Bi NMR shift above a certain magnetic field. The corresponding spin splitting, defined in the phenomenological approach of a 3D electron gas with a large (spin-orbit-induced) effective g factor, scales as expected with the Fermi energy independently determined by simultaneous transport measurements. Both the effective electronic g factor and the "contact" hyperfine coupling constant are precisely determined. The magnitude of this latter reveals a nonnegligible r character of the electronic wave function at the bottom of the conduction band. Our results show that the bulk electronic spin polarization can be directly probed via NMR and pave the way for future NMR investigations of the electronic states in Bi-based topological insulators. Spin-resolved scanning tunneling microscopy is employed to quantitatively determine the spin polarization of the magnetic field-split Kondo state. Tunneling conductance spectra of a Kondo-screened magnetic atom are evaluated within a simple model taking into account inelastic tunneling due to spin excitations and two Kondo peaks positioned symmetrically around the Fermi energy. We fit the spin state of the Kondo-screened atom with a spin Hamiltonian independent of the Kondo effect and account for Zeeman splitting of the Kondo peak in the magnetic field. We find that the width and the height of the Kondo peaks scales with the Zeeman energy. Our observations are consistent with full spin polarization of the Kondo peaks, i.e., a majority spin peak below the Fermi energy and a minority spin peak above. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Based on Lee–Low–Pines unitary transformation, characteristics of spin polarization ground state of quasi-2D magneto-bipolarons in the strong-coupling limit have been investigated by using the variational method of Pekar type. The changes law of the ground state energy E 0 and the mean number of phonon N ‾ with the confinement strength ω 0 , permittivity ratio η , strength of electron–phonon coupling α , and cyclotron resonance frequency of magnetic field ω c have been derived. The results show that mean number phonons N ‾ of magnetic bipolarons increased with increment of α , ω 0 , and ω c . The energy of ground state of magneto-bipolarons is consisted of single-particle energy of two electrons E e , Coulomb interaction energy between two electrons E c , interaction energy of electron spin and magnetic field E S , and interaction energy between electrons and phonons E e-ph . The energy E e-ph was always less than zero, and the absolute value increases with increasing of α , ω 0 , and ω c , which is the favorable factor in the formation of bound state magneto-bipolarons. The Coulomb repulsive energy between restriction and electrons is against to the formation of bound state magneto-bipolarons, and the fine structure of ground state manifold is caused by interaction between the electron spin and magnetic field. We report on the observation of ferromagnetic spin polarized moments in 4.5 nm Ag nanoparticles. Both ferromagnetic and diamagnetic responses to an applied magnetic field were detected. The spin polarized moments shown under non-linear thermoinduced magnetization appeared on the surface atoms, rather than on all the atoms in particles. The saturation magnetization departed substantially from the Bloch T 3/2 -law, showing the existence of magnetic anisotropy. The Heisenberg ferromagnetic spin wave model for H a -aligned moments was then employed to identify the magnetic anisotropic energy gap of ~0.12 meV. Our results may be understood by assuming the surface magnetism model, in which the surface atoms give rise to polarized moments while the core atoms produce diamagnetic responses.
