Identifying predictors of opioid overdose following release from prison is critical for opioid overdose prevention. We leveraged an individually linked, state-wide database from 2015–2020 to predict the risk of opioid overdose within 90 days of release from Massachusetts state prisons. We developed two decision tree modeling schemes: a model fit on all individuals with a single weight for those that experienced an opioid overdose and models stratified by race/ethnicity. We compared the performance of each model using several performance measures and identified factors that were most predictive of opioid overdose within racial/ethnic groups and across models. We found that out of 44,246 prison releases in Massachusetts between 2015–2020, 2237 (5.1%) resulted in opioid overdose in the 90 days following release. The performance of the two predictive models varied. The single weight model had high sensitivity (79%) and low specificity (56%) for predicting opioid overdose and was more sensitive for White non-Hispanic individuals (sensitivity = 84%) than for racial/ethnic minority individuals. Stratified models had better balanced performance metrics for both White non-Hispanic and racial/ethnic minority groups and identified different predictors of overdose between racial/ethnic groups. In recent years, machine learning (ML) has become increasingly popular in various fields of activity. Cloud platforms have also grown in popularity, as they offer services that are more secure and accessible worldwide. In this context, cloud-based technologies emerged to support ML, giving rise to the machine learning as a service (MLaaS) concept. However, the clients accessing ML services in order to obtain classification results on private data may be reluctant to upload sensitive information to cloud. The model owners may also prefer not to outsource their models in order to prevent model inversion attacks and to protect intellectual property. The privacy-preserving evaluation of ML models is possible through multi-key homomorphic encryption (MKHE), that allows both the client data and the model to be encrypted under different keys. In this paper, we propose an MKHE evaluation method for decision trees and we extend the proposed method for random forests. Each decision tree is evaluated as a single lookup table, and voting is performed at the level of groups of decision trees in the random forest. We provide both theoretical and experimental evaluations for the proposed method. The aim is to minimize the performance degradation introduced by the encrypted model compared to a plaintext model while also obtaining practical classification times. In our experiments with the proposed MKHE random forest evaluation method, we obtained minimal (less than 0.6%) impact on the main ML performance metrics considered for each scenario, while also achieving reasonable classification times (of the order of seconds). The digitalization of classic power systems enables the monitoring of diverse processes and occurrences in power electric systems and big data collection. Manipulating data is a key role in decision-making and planning, and machine learning (ML) algorithms can mimic human-like reasoning and automate decision processes. This manuscript centers on applying ML algorithms to create maintenance schedules for power generators, primarily based on stator winding testing. The investigation showcases the implementation of multiple ML algorithms, encompassing fuzzy logic (FL), adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS), artificial neural network (ANN), autoencoder neural network (AENN), and decision tree (DT). This research's primary objective is to investigate and determine the most acceptable ML algorithm that fits the most with the assessments made by human experts. Based on real data from power plants of Serbia best prediction correlation to the human expert shows DT algorithms with 69.45%, then ANN 68.05%, ANFIS 59.56%, FL 47.81% and at the end AENN 6.83%. The presented ML algorithms results with risk maps prove to be a valuable instrument for condition and risk-based maintenance. The presented methodology for decision making can be used to optimize power plants maintenance schedules, minimize downtime, and maximize operational efficiency in one power system. Background: CAR-T cell therapy represents a novel approach for the treatment of hematologic malignancies and solid tumors. However, its implementation is accompanied by the emergence of potentially life-threatening adverse events known as cytokine release syndrome (CRS). Given the escalating number of patients undergoing CAR-T therapy, there is an urgent need to develop predictive models for severe CRS occurrence to prevent it in advance. Currently, all existing models are based on decision trees whose accuracy is far from meeting our expectations, and there is a lack of deep learning models to predict the occurrence of severe CRS more accurately. Results: We propose PrCRS, a deep learning prediction model based on U-net and Transformer. Given the limited data available for CAR-T patients, we employ transfer learning using data from COVID-19 patients. The comprehensive evaluation demonstrates the superiority of the PrCRS model over other state-of-the-art methods for predicting CRS occurrence. We propose six models to forecast the probability of severe CRS for patients with one, two, and three days in advance. Additionally, we present a strategy to convert the model's output into actual probabilities of severe CRS and provide corresponding predictions. Conclusions: Based on our findings, PrCRS effectively predicts both the likelihood and timing of severe CRS in patients, thereby facilitating expedited and precise patient assessment, thus making a significant contribution to medical research. There is little research on applying deep learning algorithms to predict CRS, and our study fills this gap. This makes our research more novel and significant. Platinum-resistant phenomena in ovarian cancer is very dangerous for women suffering from this disease, because reduces the chances of complete recovery. Unfortunately, until now there are no methods to verify whether a woman with ovarian cancer is platinum-resistant. Importantly, histopathology images also were not shown differences in the ovarian cancer between platinum-resistant and platinum-sensitive tissues. Therefore, in this study, Fourier Transform InfraRed (FTIR) and FT-Raman spectroscopy techniques were used to find chemical differences between platinum-resistant and platinum-sensitive ovarian cancer tissues. Furthermore, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and machine learning methods were performed to show if it possible to differentiate these two kind of tissues as well as to propose spectroscopy marker of platinum-resistant. Indeed, obtained results showed, that in platinum-resistant ovarian cancer tissues higher amount of phospholipids, proteins and lipids were visible, however when the ratio between intensities of peaks at 1637 cm−1 (FTIR) and at 2944 cm−1 (Raman) and every peaks in spectra was calculated, difference between groups of samples were not noticed. Moreover, structural changes visible as a shift of peaks were noticed for C–O–C, C–H bending and amide II bonds. PCA clearly showed, that PC1 can be used to differentiate platinum-resistant and platinum-sensitive ovarian cancer tissues, while two-trace two-dimensional correlation spectra (2T2D-COS) showed, that only in amide II, amide I and asymmetric CH lipids vibrations correlation between two analyzed types of tissues were noticed. Finally, machine learning algorithms showed, that values of accuracy, sensitivity and specificity were near to 100% for FTIR and around 95% for FT-Raman spectroscopy. Recently, explainability in machine and deep learning has become an important area in the field of research as well as interest, both due to the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) methods and understanding of the decisions made by models. The explainability of artificial intelligence (XAI) is due to the increasing consciousness in, among other things, data mining, error elimination, and learning performance by various AI algorithms. Moreover, XAI will allow the decisions made by models in problems to be more transparent as well as effective. In this study, models from the 'glass box' group of Decision Tree, among others, and the 'black box' group of Random Forest, among others, were proposed to understand the identification of selected types of currant powders. The learning process of these models was carried out to determine accuracy indicators such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. It was visualized using Local Interpretable Model Agnostic Explanations (LIMEs) to predict the effectiveness of identifying specific types of blackcurrant powders based on texture descriptors such as entropy, contrast, correlation, dissimilarity, and homogeneity. Bagging (Bagging_100), Decision Tree (DT0), and Random Forest (RF7_gini) proved to be the most effective models in the framework of currant powder interpretability. The measures of classifier performance in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score for Bagging_100, respectively, reached values of approximately 0.979. In comparison, DT0 reached values of 0.968, 0.972, 0.968, and 0.969, and RF7_gini reached values of 0.963, 0.964, 0.963, and 0.963. These models achieved classifier performance measures of greater than 96%. The detection of subsurface archaeological remains using a range of remote sensing methods poses several challenges. Recent studies regarding the detection of archaeological proxies like those of cropmarks highlight the complexity of the phenomenon. In this work, we present three different methods, and associated indices, for identifying stressed reflectance signatures indicating buried archaeological remains, based on a dataset of measured ground spectroradiometric reflectance. Several spectral profiles between the visible and near-infrared parts of the spectrum were taken in a controlled environment in Cyprus during 2011–2012 and are re-used in this study. The first two (spectral) methods are based on a suitable analysis of the spectral signatures in (1) the visible part of the spectrum, in particular in the neighborhood of 570 nm, and (2) the red edge part of the spectrum, in the neighborhood of 730 nm. Machine learning (decision trees) allows for the deduction of suitable wavelengths to focus on in order to formulate the proposed indices and the associated classification criteria (decision boundaries) that can enhance the detection probability of stressed vegetation. Noise in the signal is taken into account by simulating reflectance signatures perturbed by white noise. Applying decision tree classification on the ensemble of simulations and basic statistical analysis, we refine the formulation of the indices and criteria for the noisy signatures. The success rate of the proposed methods is over 90%. The third method rests on the estimation of vegetation/canopy reflectance parameters through inversion of the physical-based PROSAIL reflectance model and the associated classification through machine learning methods. The obtained results provide further insights into the formation of stress vegetation that occurred due to the presence of shallow buried archaeological remains, which are well aligned with physical-based models and existing empirical knowledge. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first study demonstrating the usefulness of radiative transfer models such as PROSAIL for understanding the formation of cropmarks. Heart failure (HF) encompasses a diverse clinical spectrum, including instances of transient HF or HF with recovered ejection fraction, alongside persistent cases. This dynamic condition exhibits a growing prevalence and entails substantial healthcare expenditures, with anticipated escalation in the future. It is essential to classify HF patients into three groups based on their ejection fraction: reduced (HFrEF), mid-range (HFmEF), and preserved (HFpEF), such as for diagnosis, risk assessment, treatment choice, and the ongoing monitoring of heart failure. Nevertheless, obtaining a definitive prediction poses challenges, requiring the reliance on echocardiography. On the contrary, an electrocardiogram (ECG) provides a straightforward, quick, continuous assessment of the patient's cardiac rhythm, serving as a cost-effective adjunct to echocardiography. In this research, we evaluate several machine learning (ML)-based classification models, such as K-nearest neighbors (KNN), neural networks (NN), support vector machines (SVM), and decision trees (TREE), to classify left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) for three categories of HF patients at hourly intervals, using 24-hour ECG recordings. Information from heterogeneous group of 303 heart failure patients, encompassing HFpEF, HFmEF, or HFrEF classes, was acquired from a multicenter dataset involving both American and Greek populations. Features extracted from ECG data were employed to train the aforementioned ML classification models, with the training occurring in one-hour intervals. To optimize the classification of LVEF levels in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients, a nested cross-validation approach was employed for hyperparameter tuning. HF patients were best classified using TREE and KNN models, with an overall accuracy of 91.2% and 90.9%, and average area under the curve of the receiver operating characteristics (AUROC) of 0.98, and 0.99, respectively. Furthermore, according to the experimental findings, the time periods of midnight-1 am, 8–9 am, and 10–11 pm were the ones that contributed to the highest classification accuracy. The banking sector is increasingly recognising the need to implement robo-advisory. The introduction of this service may lead to increased efficiency of banks, improved quality of customer service, and a strengthened image of banks as innovative institutions. Robo-advisory uses data relating to customers, their behaviors and preferences obtained by banks from various communication channels. In the research carried out in the work, an attempt was made to obtain an answer to the question whether the data collected by banks can also be used to determine the degree of consumer interest in this type of service. This is important because the identification of customers interested in the service will allow banks to direct a properly prepared message to a selected group of addressees, increasing the effectiveness of their promotional activities. The aim of the article is to construct and examine the effectiveness of predictive models of consumer acceptance of robo-advisory services provided by banks. Based on the authors' survey on the use of artificial intelligence technology in the banking sector in Poland, in this article we construct tree-based models to predict customers' attitudes towards using robo-advisory in banking services using, as predictors, their socio-demographic characteristics, behaviours and attitudes towards modern digital technologies, experience in using banking services, as well as trust towards banks. In our study, we use selected machine learning algorithms, including a decision tree and several tree-based ensemble models. This study investigates the effectiveness of six prominent machine learning models—random forest, decision trees, K-nearest neighbor, logistic regression, support vector machines, and Naïve Bayes—for intrusion detection systems in industrial Internet of Things environments. The evaluation encompasses the effects of data preprocessing techniques, including feature engineering, data normalization, recoding, and missing data mitigation. Furthermore, the research delves into dataset balancing, examining the effects of six different techniques on model performance. The investigations are conducted using the domain-specific WUSTL-IIOT-2021 dataset, which captures the unique characteristics of IIoT data. The study also investigates multi-class attack identification utilizing an innovative SMOTE-based multi-class balancing approach to tackle dataset imbalances. The results indicate that data preprocessing and intelligent dataset balancing produce consistent enhancements in the classification performance of the selected models across binary and multi-classification tasks. The study explores the effects of varying refrigerant mass flow rate (ṁ ᵣ) and ammonia concentration in strong and weak solutions (X s and X w) on key performance parameters, including coefficient of performance (COP), exergy efficiency (Ė D), and overall Ė D across a range of generator temperatures (T g). In this study, a gradient boosting regression tree (GBRT) is employed as a supervised machine-learning technique for classification and regression problems, utilizing boosting to enhance conventional decision tree predictions. The Fire Hawk Optimizer (FHO) approach is also utilized to optimize performance parameters, maximizing COP and η η E while minimizing T g and Ė D. The GBRT models are developed using available experimental and simulation data, revealing relationships between variables (ṁ ᵣ, X s , X w , and T g) and outcomes (COP, Ė D , and overall Ė D). The results revealed that the generator exhibits considerable Ė D regardless of operating conditions, underscoring its pivotal role in the ARC. It emerges as the primary Ė D contributor (50 %), followed by the evaporator (17 %) and the absorber (15 %). However, Ė D associated with the recooler, pump, and expansion valves is negligible in comparison. Precisely and efficiently identifying subgroups with heterogeneous treatment effects (HTEs) in real-world evidence studies remains a challenge. Based on the causal forest (CF) method, we developed an iterative CF (iCF) algorithm to identify HTEs in subgroups defined by important variables. Our method iteratively grows different depths of the CF with important effect modifiers, performs plurality votes to obtain decision trees (subgroup decisions) for a family of CFs with different depths, and then finds the cross-validated subgroup decision that best predicts the treatment effect as a final subgroup decision. We simulated 12 different scenarios and showed that the iCF outperformed other machine learning methods for interaction/subgroup identification in the majority of scenarios assessed. Using a 20% random sample of fee-for-service Medicare beneficiaries initiating sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors or glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists, we implemented the iCF to identify subgroups with HTEs for hospitalized heart failure. Consistent with previous studies suggesting patients with heart failure benefit more from sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors, iCF successfully identified such a subpopulation with HTEs and additive interactions. Background: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer‐related death worldwide. This study aimed to establish novel multiclassification prediction models based on machine learning (ML) to predict the probability of malignancy in pulmonary nodules (PNs) and to compare with three published models. Methods: Nine hundred fourteen patients with PNs were collected from four medical institutions (A, B, C and D), which were organized into tables containing clinical features, radiologic features and laboratory test features. Patients were divided into benign lesion (BL), precursor lesion (PL) and malignant lesion (ML) groups according to pathological diagnosis. Approximately 80% of patients in A (total/male: 632/269, age: 57.73 ± 11.06) were randomly selected as a training set; the remaining 20% were used as an internal test set; and the patients in B (total/male: 94/53, age: 60.04 ± 11.22), C (total/male: 94/47, age: 59.30 ± 9.86) and D (total/male: 94/61, age: 62.0 ± 11.09) were used as an external validation set. Logical regression (LR), decision tree (DT), random forest (RF) and support vector machine (SVM) were used to establish prediction models. Finally, the Mayo model, Peking University People's Hospital (PKUPH) model and Brock model were externally validated in our patients. Results: The AUC values of RF model for MLs, PLs and BLs were 0.80 (95% CI: 0.73–0.88), 0.90 (95% CI: 0.82–0.99) and 0.75 (95% CI: 0.67–0.88), respectively. The weighted average AUC value of the RF model for the external validation set was 0.71 (95% CI: 0.67–0.73), and its AUC values for MLs, PLs and BLs were 0.71 (95% CI: 0.68–0.79), 0.98 (95% CI: 0.88–1.07) and 0.68 (95% CI: 0.61–0.74), respectively. The AUC values of the Mayo model, PKUPH model and Brock model were 0.68 (95% CI: 0.62–0.74), 0.64 (95% CI: 0.58–0.70) and 0.57 (95% CI: 0.49–0.65), respectively. Conclusions: The RF model performed best, and its predictive performance was better than that of the three published models, which may provide a new noninvasive method for the risk assessment of PNs. In a standard binary supervised classification task, the existence of both negative and positive samples in the training dataset are required to construct a classification model. However, this condition is not met in certain applications where only one class of samples is obtainable. To overcome this problem, a different classification method, which learns from positive and unlabeled (PU) data, must be incorporated. In this study, a novel method is presented: neighborhood-based positive unlabeled learning using decision tree (NPULUD). First, NPULUD uses the nearest neighborhood approach for the PU strategy and then employs a decision tree algorithm for the classification task by utilizing the entropy measure. Entropy played a pivotal role in assessing the level of uncertainty in the training dataset, as a decision tree was developed with the purpose of classification. Through experiments, we validated our method over 24 real-world datasets. The proposed method attained an average accuracy of 87.24%, while the traditional supervised learning approach obtained an average accuracy of 83.99% on the datasets. Objective: The purpose of this study was to develop an individual survival prediction model based on multiple machine learning (ML) algorithms to predict survival probability for remnant gastric cancer (RGC). Methods: Clinicopathologic data of 286 patients with RGC undergoing operation (radical resection and palliative resection) from a multi-institution database were enrolled and analyzed retrospectively. These individuals were split into training (80%) and test cohort (20%) by using random allocation. Nine commonly used ML methods were employed to construct survival prediction models. Algorithm performance was estimated by analyzing accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), confusion matrices, five-fold cross-validation, decision curve analysis (DCA), and calibration curve. The best model was selected through appropriate verification and validation and was suitably explained by the SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) approach. Results: Compared with the traditional methods, the RGC survival prediction models employing ML exhibited good performance. Except for the decision tree model, all other models performed well, with a mean ROC AUC above 0.7. The DCA findings suggest that the developed models have the potential to enhance clinical decision-making processes, thereby improving patient outcomes. The calibration curve reveals that all models except the decision tree model displayed commendable predictive performance. Through CatBoost-based modeling and SHAP analysis, the five-year survival probability is significantly influenced by several factors: the lymph node ratio (LNR), T stage, tumor size, resection margins, perineural invasion, and distant metastasis. Conclusions: This study established predictive models for survival probability at five years in RGC patients based on ML algorithms which showed high accuracy and applicative value. COVID-19 is an infectious respiratory disease that has had a significant impact, resulting in a range of outcomes including recovery, continued health issues, and the loss of life. Among those who have recovered, many experience negative health effects, particularly influenced by demographic factors such as gender and age, as well as physiological and neurological factors like sleep patterns, emotional states, anxiety, and memory. This research aims to explore various health factors affecting different demographic profiles and establish significant correlations among physiological and neurological factors in the post-COVID-19 state. To achieve these objectives, we have identified the post-COVID-19 health factors and based on these factors survey data were collected from COVID-recovered patients in Bangladesh. Employing diverse machine learning algorithms, we utilised the best prediction model for post-COVID-19 factors. Initial findings from statistical analysis were further validated using Chi-square to demonstrate significant relationships among these elements. Additionally, Pearson's coefficient was utilized to indicate positive or negative associations among various physiological and neurological factors in the post-COVID-19 state. Finally, we determined the most effective machine learning model and identified key features using analytical methods such as the Gini Index, Feature Coefficients, Information Gain, and SHAP Value Assessment. Many individual studies in the literature observed the superiority of tree-based machine learning (ML) algorithms. However, the current body of literature lacks statistical validation of this superiority. This study addresses this gap by employing five ML algorithms on 200 open-access datasets from a wide range of research contexts to statistically confirm the superiority of tree-based ML algorithms over their counterparts. Specifically, it examines two tree-based ML (Decision tree and Random forest) and three non-tree-based ML (Support vector machine, Logistic regression and k-nearest neighbour) algorithms. Results from paired-sample t-tests show that both tree-based ML algorithms reveal better performance than each non-tree-based ML algorithm for the four ML performance measures (accuracy, precision, recall and F1 score) considered in this study, each at p<0.001 significance level. This performance superiority is consistent across both the model development and test phases. This study also used paired-sample t-tests for the subsets of the research datasets from disease prediction (66) and university-ranking (50) research contexts for further validation. The observed superiority of the tree-based ML algorithms remains valid for these subsets. Tree-based ML algorithms significantly outperformed non-tree-based algorithms for these two research contexts for all four performance measures. Animal psychophysics can generate rich behavioral datasets, often comprised of many 1000s of trials for an individual subject. Gradient-boosted models are a promising machine learning approach for analyzing such data, partly due to the tools that allow users to gain insight into how the model makes predictions. We trained ferrets to report a target word's presence, timing, and lateralization within a stream of consecutively presented non-target words. To assess the animals' ability to generalize across pitch, we manipulated the fundamental frequency (F0) of the speech stimuli across trials, and to assess the contribution of pitch to streaming, we roved the F0 from word token-to-token. We then implemented gradient-boosted regression and decision trees on the trial outcome and reaction time data to understand the behavioral factors behind the ferrets' decision-making. We visualized model contributions by implementing SHAPs feature importance and partial dependency plots. While ferrets could accurately perform the task across all pitch-shifted conditions, our models reveal subtle effects of shifting F0 on performance, with within-trial pitch shifting elevating false alarms and extending reaction times. Our models identified a subset of non-target words that animals commonly false alarmed to. Follow-up analysis demonstrated that the spectrotemporal similarity of target and non-target words rather than similarity in duration or amplitude waveform was the strongest predictor of the likelihood of false alarming. Finally, we compared the results with those obtained with traditional mixed effects models, revealing equivalent or better performance for the gradient-boosted models over these approaches. Author summary: The sorts of listening challenges faced by real-world listeners are rarely captured by most laboratory-based auditory paradigms, particularly those testing animal models. However, many labs are attempting to utilize more realistic experiments, and more complicated behavioral paradigms require more sophisticated approaches to analyzing the resulting data. Computer security consists in protecting access and manipulating system data by several mechanisms. However, conventional protection technologies are ineffective against current attacks. Thus, new tools have appeared, such as the intrusion detection and prediction systems which are important defense elements for network security since they detect the ongoing intrusions and predict the upcoming attacks. Besides, most of conventional protection technologies remain insufficient in terms of actions since they are all passive systems, unable to provide recommendations in order to block or stop the attacks. In this paper, a distributed detection and prediction system, composed of three major parts, is proposed. The first part deals with the detection of intrusions based on the decision tree learning algorithm. The second part deals with intrusions prediction using the chronicle algorithm. The third part proposes an expert system for security recommendations in response to detected intrusions, able to provide appropriate recommendations to stop the attacks. The proposed system gives good results in terms of accuracy and precision in detecting and predicting attacks, and efficiency in proposing the right recommendations to stop the attacks. The development of earth fissures, which are linear fractures with openings or offsets on the land surface, can severely affect landforms, especially in urban areas, in the form of earthquakes causing major concern on human lives as well as damage to infrastructures. Thus, an early warning map for lands susceptible to earth fissures can better equip planners for formulating mitigation strategies. In this study, we focus on the Damghan Plain in Iran for preparation of earth fissure susceptible maps using several topographical, hydrological, geological and environmental conditioning factors. In order to train these conditioning factors and preparation of earth fissure susceptibility maps, 124‐earth fissure field‐based samples, for training and validation purposes, were used by random subspace (RS) model based on four other machine learning ensemble methods such as RS‐Naïve‐Bayes Tree (NBTree), RS‐alternating decision tree (ADTree), RS‐Fisher's Linear Discriminant Function (FLDA) and RS‐Logistic model tree (LMT). From the validation technique, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve performance test demonstrates that the RS‐NBTree model was the best suited with area under curve (AUC) = 0.974 followed by RS‐ADTree (AUC = 0.966), RS‐LMT (AUC = 0.954), RS‐FLDA (AUC = 0.948) and RS (AUC = 0.923). A system that can estimate the magnitude and quantity of the change in material prices with reasonable accuracy is required. The primary goal is to create a machine-learning model that can predict the type of building material chosen based on environmental factors. The compressive strength of concrete is critical in defining its mechanical qualities. Long laboratory testing is needed to determine the compressive strength of concrete. The capacity of powerful machine learning algorithms to forecast concrete compressive strength speeds up these lengthy experimental methods while also lowering expenses. This study provides abilities to precisely anticipate and categorize numerous qualities and traits of distinct materials. The framework includes a broad dataset that details materials, composition, and performance characteristics. Machine learning algorithms such as logistic regression (LR), decision trees (DT), and random forests (RF) train models on the training data. The models are hyper-parameter tweaked and feature developed to achieve the most outstanding performance. The k-fold method is used throughout the training and assessment phase to guarantee robustness and reduce bias. The F1 score and Receiver Operating Characteristic-Area Under Curve (ROC-AUC) curve are two performance measures used to measure how accurate and predictive the trained models are. Manufacturing processes in industry applications are often controlled by the evaluation of surface topography. Topography, in its overall performance, includes form, waviness, and roughness. Methods of measurement of surface roughness can be roughly divided into tactile and contactless techniques. The latter ones are much faster but sensitive to external disturbances from the environment. One type of external source error, while the measurement of surface topography occurs, is a high-frequency noise. This noise originates from the vibration of the measuring system. In this study, the methods for reducing high-frequency errors from the results of contactless roughness measurements of turned surfaces were supported by machine learning methods. This research delves into optimizing filtration methods for surface topography measurements through the application of machine learning models, focusing on enhancing the accuracy of surface roughness assessments. By examining turned surfaces under specific machining conditions and employing a variety of digital filters, the study identifies the Gaussian regression filter and spline filter as the most effective methods at a 22.5 µm cut-off. Utilizing neural networks, support vector machines, and decision trees, the research demonstrates the superior performance of SVMs, achieving remarkable accuracy and sensitivity in predicting optimal filtration methods. The rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT) has brought many conveniences to our daily life. However, it has also introduced various security risks that need to be addressed. The proliferation of IoT botnets is one of these risks. Most of researchers have had some success in IoT botnet detection using artificial intelligence (AI). However, they have not considered the impact of dynamic network data streams on the models in real-world environments. Over time, existing detection models struggle to cope with evolving botnets. To address this challenge, we propose an incremental learning approach based on Gradient Boosting Decision Trees (GBDT), called GBDT-IL, for detecting botnet traffic in IoT environments. It improves the robustness of the framework by adapting to dynamic IoT data using incremental learning. Additionally, it incorporates an enhanced Fisher Score feature selection algorithm, which enables the model to achieve a high accuracy even with a smaller set of optimal features, thereby reducing the system resources required for model training. To evaluate the effectiveness of our approach, we conducted experiments on the BoT-IoT, N-BaIoT, MedBIoT, and MQTTSet datasets. We compared our method with similar feature selection algorithms and existing concept drift detection algorithms. The experimental results demonstrated that our method achieved an average accuracy of 99.81% using only 25 features, outperforming similar feature selection algorithms. Furthermore, our method achieved an average accuracy of 96.88% in the presence of different types of drifting data, which is 2.98% higher than the best available concept drift detection algorithms, while maintaining a low average false positive rate of 3.02%. Explaining diversity in tropical forests remains a challenge in community ecology. Theory tells us that species differences can stabilize communities by reducing competition, while species similarities can promote diversity by reducing fitness differences and thus prolonging the time to competitive exclusion. Combined, these processes may lead to clustering of species such that species are niche differentiated across clusters and share a niche within each cluster. Here, we characterize this partial niche differentiation in a tropical forest in Panama by measuring spatial clustering of woody plants and relating these clusters to local soil conditions. We find that species were spatially clustered and the clusters were associated with specific concentrations of soil nutrients, reflecting the existence of nutrient niches. Species were almost twice as likely to recruit in their own nutrient niche. A decision tree algorithm showed that local soil conditions correctly predicted the niche of the trees with up to 85% accuracy. Chylous blood is the main cause of unqualified and scrapped blood among volunteer blood donors. Therefore, a diagnostic method that can quickly and accurately identify chylous blood before donation is needed. In this study, the GaiaSorter "Gaia" hyperspectral sorter was used to extract 254 bands of plasma images, ranging from 900 nm to 1700 nm. Four different machine learning algorithms were used, including decision tree, Gaussian Naive Bayes (GaussianNB), perceptron, and stochastic gradient descent models. First, the preliminary classification accuracies were compared with the original data, which showed that the effects of the decision tree and GaussianNB models were better; their average accuracies could reach over 90%. Then, the feature dimension reduction was performed on the original data. The results showed that the effects of the decision tree were better with a classification accuracy of 93.33%. the classification of chylous plasma using different chylous indices suggested that the accuracies of the decision trees model both before and after the feature dimension reductions were the best with over 80% accuracy. The results of feature dimension reduction showed that the characteristic bands corresponded to all kinds of plasma, thereby showing their classification and identification potential. By applying the spectral characteristics of plasma to medical technology, this study suggested a rapid and effective method for the identification of chylous plasma and provided a reference for the blood detection technology to achieve the goal of reducing wasting blood resources and improving the work efficiency of the medical staff. This article aims to predict the mid-span displacements of reinforced concrete (RC) columns exposed to blast loading with machine learning models. Machine learning models including the gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT) model and the random forest (RF) model are developed. The model hyperparameters in the machine learning models are globally optimized using Bayesian optimization method. The dataset used to train and test the models is constructed by collecting data from shock-tube-simulated experiments. Results show that the performance of the optimized models is significantly improved. By comparing the performance metrics of two models, it is evident that the GBDT model is superior to the RF model in predicting mid-span displacements. The optimized GBDT model is then used to predict the displacements of columns during field tests, and the experimental results and predictive results are relatively consistent, which verifies the effectiveness of GBDT model with Bayesian optimization in damage assessment for RC columns. Pore pressure (PP) information plays an important role in analysing the geomechanical properties of the reservoir and hydrocarbon field development. PP prediction is an essential requirement to ensure safe drilling operations and it is a fundamental input for well design, and mud weight estimation for wellbore stability. However, the pore pressure trend prediction in complex geological provinces is challenging particularly at oceanic slope setting, where sedimentation rate is relatively high and PP can be driven by various complex geo-processes. To overcome these difficulties, an advanced machine learning (ML) tool is implemented in combination with empirical methods. The empirical method for PP prediction is comprised of data pre-processing and model establishment stage. Eaton's method and Porosity method have been used for PP calculation of the well U1517A located at Tuaheni Landslide Complex of Hikurangi Subduction zone of IODP expedition 372. Gamma-ray, sonic travel time, bulk density and sonic derived porosity are extracted from well log data for the theoretical framework construction. The normal compaction trend (NCT) curve analysis is used to check the optimum fitting of the low permeable zone data. The statistical analysis is done using the histogram analysis and Pearson correlation coefficient matrix with PP data series to identify potential input combinations for ML-based predictive model development. The dataset is prepared and divided into two parts: Training and Testing. The PP data and well log of borehole U1517A is pre-processed to scale in between [-1, þ1] to fit into the input range of the non-linear activation/transfer function of the decision tree regression model. Trojan Horse is a major threat that has grown with the spread of the digital world. Data gathered through the study of memory can provide valuable insights into the Trojan Horse's behavior patterns. Because of this, memory analysis techniques are one of the topics that should be investigated in Trojan Horse detection. This study proposes the use of memory data in Trojan Horse detection. Trojan Horse detection used a decision tree (DT) classifier with memory data. Experiments were performed on the Trojan Horse samples from the CIC-MalMem-2022 dataset. The binary classification was made using DT, gradient boosted tree, Naive Bayes (NB), linear vector support machine, K-nearest neighbors (KNN), and machine learning (ML) classifiers. The comparison of the various classification methods was performed utilizing the accuracy, recall, precision, and F1-score metrics. As a result, the most successful Trojan Horse detection was gained with the DT classifier, which achieved accuracy of 99.96% using memory data. The NB classifier showed the lowest achievement in Trojan Horse detection using memory data, which achieved accuracy of 98.41%. In addition, numerous of the classifiers utilized have attained very high results. Based on the achieved results, the data from memory analysis is very valuable in detecting Trojan Horse. Objective: Body mass index (BMI) is the primary criterion differentiating anorexia nervosa (AN) and atypical anorexia nervosa despite prior literature indicating few differences between disorders. Machine learning (ML) classification provides us an efficient means of accurately distinguishing between two meaningful classes given any number of features. The aim of the present study was to determine if ML algorithms can accurately distinguish AN and atypical AN given an ensemble of features excluding BMI, and if not, if the inclusion of BMI enables ML to accurately classify between the two. Methods: Using an aggregate sample from seven studies consisting of individuals with AN and atypical AN who completed baseline questionnaires (N = 448), we used logistic regression, decision tree, and random forest ML classification models each trained on two datasets, one containing demographic, eating disorder, and comorbid features without BMI, and one retaining all features and BMI. Results: Model performance for all algorithms trained with BMI as a feature was deemed acceptable (mean accuracy = 74.98%, mean area under the receiving operating characteristics curve [AUC] = 74.75%), whereas model performance diminished without BMI (mean accuracy = 59.37%, mean AUC = 59.98%). Discussion: Model performance was acceptable, but not strong, if BMI was included as a feature; no other features meaningfully improved classification. When BMI was excluded, ML algorithms performed poorly at classifying cases of AN and atypical AN when considering other demographic and clinical characteristics. Results suggest a reconceptualization of atypical AN should be considered. Public Significance: There is a growing debate about the differences between anorexia nervosa and atypical anorexia nervosa as their diagnostic differentiation relies on BMI despite being similar otherwise. We aimed to see if machine learning could distinguish between the two disorders and found accurate classification only if BMI was used as a feature. Uncertainty presents unfamiliar circumstances or incomplete information that may be difficult to handle with a single model of a traditional machine learning algorithm. They are possibly limited by inadequate data, an ambiguous model, and learning performance to make a prediction. Therefore, ensemble modeling is proposed as a powerful model for enhancing predictive capabilities and robustness. This study aims to apply Bayesian prediction to ensemble modeling because it can encode conditional dependencies between variables and present the reasoning model using the BMIC model. The BMIC has clarified knowledge in the model which is ready for learning. Then, it was selected as the base model to be integrated with well-known algorithms such as logistic regression, K-nearest neighbors, decision trees, random forests, support vector machines (SVMs), neural networks, naive Bayes, and XGBoost classifiers. Also, the Bayesian neural network (BNN) and the probabilistic Bayesian neural network (PBN) were considered to compare their performance as a single model. The findings of this study indicate that the ensemble model of the BMIC with some traditional algorithms, which are SVM, random forest, neural networks, and XGBoost classifiers, returns 96.3% model accuracy in prediction. In this work, supervised and unsupervised machine learning approaches were applied to determine routes to high CO selectivity during the electroreduction of CO2 in deep eutectic solvents (DES) utilizing the molecular, chemical, and physical characteristics of hydrogen bond donors and acceptors, as well as the properties of different electrodes and DES solvents. In addition, effective data visualization and machine learning techniques were employed to identify relationships between descriptor variables and CO faradaic efficiency. First, SHAP (Shapley Additive exPlanations) analysis was applied to determine the positive and negative effects of the descriptor variables on the target, and it was found that urea in HBD (hydrogen bond donor) has the greatest impact on the target. Then, principal component analysis (PCA) was used to identify the combinations that lead to low, medium, and high levels of the target. PCA indicated that high-level clusters may be linked with HBA (hydrogen bond acceptor) molecular properties rather than HBD in addition to choline chloride-type HBA, HBA/HBD ratio, HBD density, HBD melting point, and urea-type HBD. Finally, decision tree classification was used to discover the variables leading to very high levels of the target. The decision tree revealed one pathway with very high CO faradaic efficiency and two pathways with high CO faradaic efficiency. To conclude, future researchers will be able to design new experiments with less effort and time while analyzing the effect of new DES components for high-performance CO2 electrolyzers as a result of the machine learning study and exploratory data analysis performed in this study.
