The Philippines’ location within the Pacific Ring of Fire brings enormous threat to its people. Intervention and innovation are to be in place for survival and growth, since nothing can be done about its geographic location and the threats that come with it. This study aims to create a framework for developing a decision support system, a mobile and web application for the efficient implementation of the disaster logistics support system. The study will utilize Agile Methodology for the software development in the proposed framework. This proposed framework exhibits the features of the system such as identifying location, affected families, supplies, reports, management of inventory, vehicle outsourcing, and monitoring. The system framework can be a helpful tool for the efficient and speedy delivery of needed help and an effective approach to disaster supply chain issues.

Badanie to miało na celu identyfikację potencjalnych zagrożeń i określenie środków zapobiegawczych, a także ustalenie zwinnych zasad związanych z logistyką firm energetycznych. Zastosowano metodę streszczenia narracyjnego w połączeniu z metodą poszukiwania literatury. Nasuwają się dwa wnioski: po pierwsze, badania służą rozwojowi dyscypliny nauk o zarządzaniu; po drugie, identyfikacja zagrożeń związanych z innowacjami służy praktykom. Ponadto określono dalsze kierunki badawcze. Energy firms are the beneficiaries and initiators of innovation, and energy investments are a crucial area of business activity that is specially protected in any country. This is no wonder, as energy security is the basis for the functioning of states and economies. The Internet of Things and Big Data create both new challenges and new threats. This study aimed to identify the potential threats and determine preventive measures, as well as to establish the agile principles related to energy firms' logistics. The method of the narrative summary in combination with the literature searching method was used. Two conclusions emerged: first, research serves to develop the discipline of management science; second, the identification of risks associated with innovation serves practitioners. In addition, the study defined further research directions.

Goal: Industry 4.0 has the main purpose to turn the company into an agile organization, able to adapt continuously to the dynamicity of the market. Thus, to reach this target, the business should be aware of its current level of readiness and it needs to establish digital strategies to reach higher levels. The goal of this research is to explore how improvements in industry 4.0 can improve companies´ business processes. Design / Methodology / Approach: The present study is action research that initially identified the most suitable maturity model in Industry 4.0 in the scientific and practitioner literature. Furthermore, the chosen model was applied in a beverage manufacturer to evaluate its current maturity level. Some Industry 4.0 improvements were implemented on the warehouse as part of the company’s digital strategy into which it was integrated the inventory management system with new digital solutions. Finally, interviews were conducted and data was gathered from companies indicators. Results: The conduct of the action research revealed the current status of the company and how storage management contributed to its digital transformation process. A phenomenon of islands of improvement is discussed at the end. Limitations of the investigation: Our main limitation is our case study approach. Additionally, more interviews crossing functional areas could bring further elements about the perception of improvements that each functional group had at the end of the implementation process. Practical implications: The case study suggests that applications of maturity models can generate the phenomena of islands of improvements. Managers must take this situation into account to plan digital transformation in the whole company. Originality / Value: The phenomena of the island of improvement is suggested to be a side effect of implementing industry 4.0 based on maturity models. Industry 4.0 is generalizing the use of wireless connectivity in manufacturing and logistics. Specifically, in Smart Logistics, novel Industry 4.0 technologies are used to enable agile supply chains, with reduced management, energy and storage costs. Cellular networks allow connectivity throughout all the scenarios where logistics processes take place, each having their own challenges. This paper explores such scenarios and challenges, and proposes 5G technology as a global unified connectivity solution. Moreover, this paper proposes a system for exploiting the application-specific optimization capabilities of 5G networks to better cater for the needs of Smart Logistics. An application traffic modeling process is proposed, along with a proactive approach to network optimization that can improve the Quality of Service and reduce connectivity costs.

Today’s food supply chain is incredibly complex and imposes enormous challenges across the Globe. Products are transported through multimodal transportation internationally, comprising of combination of ship, rail, truck and flight modes etc. The supply chain under multistage network poses more quality related issues. Hence, blockchain technology helps to enhance food safety and quality in the logistics process. This, when coupled with the existing traceability system can create more agile value chain and closer customer relationship across regions. Though, Thailand is a leading food exporter, it lacks in implementation of blockchain technology. The objective of this study is to analyse the impact of blockchain technology adoption for safe food supply chain management through System Dynamics (SD) approach from management perspectives in Thailand. The preliminary survey and discussion were carried out with the participants from food expert firms, and causal loop diagrams and stock and flow diagrams were developed and validated. The trade-off, challenges and opportunities of applying block chain technology on the global food value supply chain has been discussed throughout the system dynamics model. The major contribution of this work is in providing insight into some of the main dimensions of block chain technology and its implications for global food value chain performance improvements.

This article discusses the Model Uncertainty of Supply Chain, and proposes a matrix with their transportation modes best suited to their chains. From the detailed analysis of the matrix of uncertainty, it is suggested transportation modes best suited to the management of these chains, so that transport is the most appropriate optimization of the gains previously proposed by the original model, particularly when supply chains are distant from suppliers of raw materials and / or supplies.Here we analyze in detail Agile Supply Chains, which is a result of Uncertainty Supply Chain Model, with special attention to Manaus Industrial Center. This research was done at Manaus Industrial Pole, which is a model of industrial agglomerations, based in Manaus, State of Amazonas (Brazil), which contemplates different supply chains and strategies sharing same infrastructure of transport, handling and storage and clearance process and uses inbound for suppliers of raw material. The state of art contemplates supply chain management, uncertainty supply chain model, agile supply chains, Manaus Industrial Center (MIC) and Brazilian legislation, as a business case, and presents concepts and features, of each one. The main goal is to present and discuss how transport is able to support Uncertainty Supply Chain Model, in order to complete management model. The results obtained confirms the hypothesis of integrated logistics processes are able to guarantee attractivity for industrial agglomerations, and open discussions when the suppliers are far from the manufacturer center, in a logistics management.

Due to rapid global economic growth and competition, there is an increased pressure on logistic companies. On one hand, they have to be flexible and agile, to meet Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) with clients, while on the other hand they have to comply with government regulations and environment protection laws. Better utilization of different modes of transport and improved decision making can contribute to solving both these challenges. This requires increased co-operation between logistic service providers (LSPs). Our aim is to develop an IT platform which facilitates increased cooperation between logistic partners and allows them to function in a synchromodal way. We use the principles of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) to design the IT platform. Using this platform, a single consignment can be fulfilled using different modes of transport and unforeseen problems in transportation can be dealt with. A consortium of leading Dutch logistic companies will be the test bed for this research.
