Background: Heart failure (HF), a complex condition arising from impaired ventricular function, necessitates strict adherence to dietary recommendations for optimal patient management. However, information regarding adherence and its influencing factors remains limited. Aim: This study aimed to assess dietary recommendation adherence and its associated factors among HF patients at Southern Ethiopia public hospitals. Methods and results: A cross-sectional study involving 521 participants employed systematic random sampling. Data collection utilized pre-tested, interviewer-administered questionnaires and medical chart reviews. Data were entered and analyzed using Epi Data 3.1 and SPSS 20.0 software. Descriptive statistics were performed. Variables with p-values < 0.25 in binary logistic regression were included in multivariable logistic regression analyses. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05 with a 95% confidence interval. Results are presented in text, tables, and figures. With a 97.4% response rate, adherence ranged from 20.3% (vegetables and fruits) to 60.3% (fat-free diet). Only 8.1% achieved good adherence across all parameters, with overall adherence at 33.4% (95% CI: 29–37). Multivariable analysis revealed that patients aged 41–60 years (AOR: 1.7), with a history of admission (AOR: 2.5), free from comorbidities (AOR: 0.58), and possessing a favorable attitude (AOR: 0.45) had statistically significant associations with good adherence. Conclusion: Dietary adherence among HF patients remains a challenge. Healthcare providers, particularly those in chronic follow-up settings, should prioritize improving patient attitudes towards proper dietary practices. Tailored education programs targeting younger patients and those free from comorbidities should be implemented. Background: Neonatal Sepsis remains a significant burden globally, accounting for over 2.5 million neonatal deaths annually, with low-and middle-income countries (LMIC) including Ghana disproportionately affected. The current study sought to ascertain the prevalence of neonatal sepsis and associated factors based on analysis of institutional records from Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH) in Ghana. Methods: The study involved a retrospective cross-sectional review of randomly sampled medical records of 360 neonates CCTH from January 2018 to December 2021. Descriptive proportions and binary logistic regression analysis were conducted to estimate the prevalence of neonates with sepsis and associated factors. Results: The prevalence of neonates with sepsis over the period was estimated to be 59%, with early-onset neonatal sepsis (EONS) and late-onset neonatal sepsis (LONS) accounting for about 29% and 30%, respectively. Neonatal factors associated with sepsis were low Apgar score (AOR = 1.64; 95% CI:1.01–2.67, p = 0.047) and low birth weight (AOR = 2.54; 95% CI:1.06–6.09, p = 0.037), while maternal factors were maternal education (AOR = 2.65; 95% CI:1.04–6.7, p = 0.040), caesarean deliveries (AOR = 0.45; 95% CI:0.26–0.75, p = 0.003), maternal infection (AOR = 1.79; 95% CI:1.09–2.94, p = 0.020) and foul-smelling liquor (AOR = 1.84; 95% CI:1.09–3.07, p = 0.020). Conclusion: The study underscores the need for improved routine care and assessment of newborns to prevent the onset of neonatal sepsis, with particular emphasis on the neonatal and maternal risk factors highlighted in the current study. Despite the indispensable role of self-care behavior in managing heart failure, the practice of self-care behavior remains poor, especially in developing countries. There is a scarcity of research focusing on poor self-care behavior and its determinants within our specific context. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate the prevalence and predictors of poor self-care behavior among ambulatory heart failure patients. A facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital in Ethiopia, involving patients with heart failure. We utilized the European Heart Failure Self-Care Behavior Scale (EHFScBS-9) to evaluate adherence to self-care behaviors. Data were gathered through patient interviews and a review of medical records. A binary logistic regression analysis was performed to identify predictors of poor self-care behavior in heart failure patients. We included a total of 343 participants in the final analysis of this study. The findings revealed that a majority of the patients (73.8%) demonstrated poor overall self-care behavior. Specifically, the majority of patients did not engage in regular exercise (76.1%), failed to consult doctors in case of rapid weight gain (75.6%), did not monitor weight daily (71.5%), did not restrict fluid intake (69.9%), and did not contact doctors in case of experiencing fatigue (68.6%). Additionally, 32.4% of patients did not reach out to doctors when experiencing shortness of breath, 30% did not restrict salt intake, 29% did not adhere to prescribed medication, and only 7% did not consult doctors if edema occurred. Our findings indicated that rural residence (AOR: 5.76, 95% CI: 2.47–13.43), illiteracy (AOR: 2.64, 95% CI: 1.52–6.31), prior hospitalization (AOR: 2.09, 95% CI: 1.21–3.61), and taking five or more medications (AOR: 1.83, 1.01–3.33) were significant predictors of poor self-care behavior. In conclusion, a majority of the participants in our study demonstrated poor self-care behavior. Risk factors for this behavior included rural residence, illiteracy, prior hospitalization, and taking five or more medications. Therefore, it is crucial to prioritize these high-risk patients and implement interventional programs aimed at improving self-care behaviors and overall treatment outcomes in heart failure patients. Background: Anemia is still one of the major public health problems in many developing countries including Ethiopia. Thus, this study aimed to assess individual and contextual-level factors associated with iron-folic acid supplement intake during pregnancy in Ethiopia. Methods: A secondary analysis was done on the 2019 mini-Ethiopian Demographic and Health Survey (EDHS) dataset. A total of 3,927 pregnant women who gave birth five years before the survey were included in the analysis. Multi-level mixed-effect logistic regression analysis was done by STATA/SE version 14.0 to identify individual and contextual-level factors. Adjusted Odds Ratio (AOR) with 95% Confidence Interval (CI) was used to show the strength and direction of the association. The level of statistical significance was declared at a P value less than 0.05. Results: Those primary educated [AOR = 1.83, 95% CI: (1.24, 2.74)], secondary educated [AOR = 2.75, 95% CI: (1.57, 4.824)], women who had greater than 5 living children [AOR = 2.02, 95% CI: (1.25, 3.27)], women who had ANC visit [AOR = 21.26, 95% CI: (13.56, 33.32)] and women who lived in a cluster with high proportion of women had ANC visit [AOR = 1.72, 95% CI: (1.17, 2.54)] and women who lived in Somali [AOR = 0.44 0.73, 95% CI: (0.22, 0.87)] were significantly associated with iron-folic acid intake during pregnancy. Conclusions: Both individual and contextual-level factors were significantly associated with iron-folic acid intake during pregnancy. From individual-level factors: education status of women, the total numbers of living children, and ANC follow-up are significant and from contextual-level factors: region and living in a high proportion of women who had ANC follow-up were found to have a statistically significant association. Background: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) remains the leading cause of years of life lost among adolescent boys in eastern and southern Africa. Medical male circumcision (MMC) is a cost-effective one-time intervention that can reduce the risk of heterosexual HIV acquisition in men by approximately 60%. Despite its importance in HIV prevention, the uptake of MMC remains suboptimal among adolescent boys. This study aimed to identify factors associated with low MMC uptake among adolescent boys in Tanzania. Methods: This study was a secondary analysis of the 2016– 17 Tanzania HIV Impact Survey. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize the participants' characteristics. Unadjusted and adjusted multinomial logistic regression models were fitted to identify factors associated with low MMC uptake among adolescent boys. Results: A total of 2605 older adolescents (15– 19 years) and 1296 young adolescents (10– 14 years) were analyzed. The MMC uptake rates among older and young adolescents were 56.5% and 45.1%, respectively. Lower MMC uptake was found among respondents in rural areas (adjusted relative risk ratio [aRRR] = 0.40, 95% CI: 0.28– 0.57), in the traditionally non-circumcising zone (aRRR = 0.30, 95% CI: 0.23– 0.41), participants with no formal education (aRRR = 0.32, 95% CI: 0.23– 0.41), and those living in lower wealth quintile households (aRRR = 0.20, 95% CI: 0.11– 0.36). Respondents who were not covered by health insurance (aRRR = 0.67, 95% CI: 0.48– 0.94) and those who had no comprehensive HIV knowledge (aRRR = 0.55, 95% CI: 0.44– 0.70) were also found to have lower uptake of MMC. Conclusion: To achieve and maintain high MMC coverage, MMC interventions for HIV prevention should focus on uncircumcised adolescent boys who are rural residents, of lower socioeconomic status, and residing in traditionally non-circumcising communities. Background: The risk of all-cause mortality in patients with heart failure (HF) has been studied previously. Readmission risk of HF patients was rarely explored. Thus, we aimed to explore early warning factors that may influence short-term readmission of HF patients. Methods: The data of this study came from an HF database in China. It was a retrospective single-center observational study that collected characteristic data on Chinese HF patients by integrating electronic medical records and follow-up outcome data. Eventually, 1,727 patients with HF were finally included in our study. Results: In our study, the proportion of HF patients with New York Heart Association (NYHA) class II, III, and IV HF were 17.20%, 52.69%, and 30.11%, respectively. The proportion of patients with readmission within 6 months and readmission within 3 months was 38.33% and 24.20%, respectively. Multivariate logistic regression showed that NYHA class (pIII = 0.028, pIV < 0.001), diabetes (p = 0.002), Cr (p = 0.003), and RDW-SD (p = 0.039) were risk factors for readmission within 6 months of HF patients. NYHA class (pIII = 0.038, pIV < 0.001), CCI (p = 0.033), Cr (p = 0.012), UA (p = 0.042), and Na (p = 0.026) were risk factors for readmission within 3 months of HF patients. Introduction: Human immune deficiency virus (HIV)-infected individuals experience significant implications in terms of having children due to transmission of human immune deficiency. However, fertility desire has given little attention, and the uptake of prevention of mother-to-child transmission services is low in Ethiopia, particularly in Afar region. Thus, this study aimed to assess fertility desire and associated factors among human immune virus-positive women attending ART clinics. Material and methods: An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted with 402 HIV-positive women attending anti-retroviral therapy clinics in selected hospitals of Afar region. Logistic regression analysis was employed to identify factors associated with fertility desire. Statistical association was measured, with a p-value < 0.05 considered statistically significant. Results: The prevalence of fertility desire was 63.9% (95% CI: 59.1-68.8%). Young ages women, i.e., 15-24 years (AOR = 11.98; 95% CI: 4.04-35.5) and 25-34 years (AOR = 2.93, 95% CI: 1.46-5.86), who did not have living children (AOR = 5.1; 95% CI: 1.31-20.2) and women with 1 or 2 children alive (AOR = 2.7; 95% CI: 1.39-5.27), and disclosed sero-status (AOR = 5.89; 95% CI: 2.33-14.9) were associated with increased odds of fertility desire. However, contraceptives use was associated with decreased odds of fertility desire (AOR = 0.11; 95% CI: 0.05-0.22). Conclusions: In this study, six in ten study subjects had fertility desires. Young age, not having living child, having 1 or 2 children alive, disclosing sero-status to partner, and contraceptive use were predictors for fertility desire. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: foodborne disease (FBD) is a major public health problem globally. Inadequate food workers' knowledge, attitude, and low level of food handling practices (FHPs) may all contribute to the possibility of FBD outbreaks in public food service establishments. This study aimed to assess FHPs and associated factors among food handlers working in public food and drink service establishments in Woldia town, Northeast Ethiopia. Methods: an institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted from 01 to 29, January 2017. A total of 288 food handlers were recruited through a simple random selection method. A structured interviewer-administered questionnaire and observation checklists were used to collect the respondents' socio-demographic characteristics, knowledge status on FHPs, and food handling working practices data. Descriptive statistics, bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis were employed using SPSS version 20 software. Those variables with a p< 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: out of 288 participants, 91.7% were female, and 82.3% were single, while 69.8% were literate. One hundred eighty-four (63.9%) of them were under 15-25 years of age, with a median age of 23.3 years. The proportion of good FHP was (n=134, 46.5%) (95% CI: 41.00-52.4%). Advanced age (adjusted odds ratio (AOR) =12.01, 95% CI: 1.96-73.52), education (participants who attend grades 7-12 (AOR=2.33, 95% CI: 1.14-4.79), and above secondary education (AOR=2.29, 95% CI: 1.05-4.61), work experience above six years (AOR=2.43, 95% CI: 2.08-3.17), received formal training (AOR=1.79, 95% CI: 1.68-4.71), and inspection visits by a concerned body (AOR=2.24, 95% CI: 1.05-3.09) were factors positively associated with handling practices. Conclusion: the study revealed that FHP in the study area was low. Age, education, service year, training received and sanitary inspection visits by the regulatory personnel were factors significantly associated with FHPs. This finding highlights the importance of employing regular sanitary inspection visits to public food service establishments by the concerned authority to ensure that all food handlers have the knowledge and the skill to provide safe food. Among Sub-Saharan African women living with HIV (WLWH), pregnancy creates unique stressors that may cause depression. We describe the prevalence of depression among WLWH enrolled in the African Cohort Study (AFRICOS) by pregnancy status and describe factors associated with depression. WLWH < 45 years of age underwent six-monthly visits with depression diagnosed using the Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression scale. Visits were categorized as "pregnant;" "postpartum" (the first visit made after the last pregnancy visit), and "non-pregnant." The prevalence of depression was calculated for each visit type and compared using prevalence odds ratios (POR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Logistic regression with generalized estimating equations was used to evaluate sociodemographic factors associated with depression. From January 2013 to March 1, 2020, 1333 WLWH were enrolled, and 214 had pregnancies during follow-up. As compared to the prevalence of depression during "non-pregnant" visits (9.1%), depression was less common at "pregnant" (6.3%; POR = 0.68 [CI: 0.42, 1.09]) and "postpartum" (3.4%; POR = 0.36 [CI: 0.17, 0.76]) visits. When controlling for other factors, the visit category was not independently associated with depression. Visit number, study site, employment status, and food security were independently associated with decreased odds of depression. We observed a lower prevalence of depression during pregnancy and the postpartum period than has been previously described among WLWH during similar time points. We observed protective factors against depression which highlight the impact that holistic and consistent health care at HIV-centered clinics may have on the well-being of WLWH in AFRICOS. Background: Incomplete vaccination can put children at greater risk of acquiring vaccine-preventable diseases. In Ethiopia, vaccination coverage against vaccine-preventable diseases is still a significant and persistent public health challenge. Thus, the aim of this study was to identify the determinants of incomplete childhood vaccination among children aged 12– 23 months in Gindhir District, Southeast Ethiopia. Methods: A community-based unmatched case–control design was employed among children aged 12– 23 months from 1 to 28 February 2020. A total of 254 cases and 508 controls were included using the stratified random sampling technique. Cases included children aged 12– 23 months who missed at least one dose of the routine vaccination, and controls were the children with complete vaccination with all required doses. Binary logistic regression analyses were used to identify the independent factors for children's incomplete vaccination status. Results: Of all assessed determinants, maternal knowledge about vaccination (AOR=0.50, 95% CI: 0.31, 0.80), educational status (AOR=2.61, 95% CI: 1.19, 5.67), average monthly income (AOR=0.33, 95% CI: 0.15, 0.77), model family (AOR = 2.50, 95% CI: 1.51, 4.14), taking TT vaccine (AOR= 0.45 95% CI: 0.29, 0.78), number of under five children (AOR= 4.90 95% CI: 1.72, 13.93) and birth order (AOR= 6.33, 95% CI: 1.89, 14.87) were found to have statistically significant association with childhood incomplete vaccination. Conclusion: In this study, the mother's education, model family, birth order, average monthly income, and knowledge were some of the independent determinants of incomplete childhood vaccination. Purpose: Foodborne illness is a major public health problem worldwide. The supply of safe and healthy food is crucial to prevent foodborne illness. However, evidence regarding food safety knowledge and handling practice is limited in Ethiopia. Therefore, this study aimed to assess food safety knowledge, handling practice, and its associated factors among food handlers in Debre Markos Town, North West Ethiopia. Patients and Methods: An institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted on 408 randomly selected food handlers at Debre-Markos town. A structured questionnaire and an observational checklist were used to collect relevant data. The main outcome of interest was food safety and handling practice. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to identify the factors significantly associated with food safety knowledge and food handling practice. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 25. Results: In this study, only 34.1% of food handlers had good food safety knowledge and nearly 54% of food handlers had good food handling practice. Level of education (AOR = 0.23 (0.14– 0.57)), training on food safety (AOR = 5.13 (3.57– 7.82)), and favorable attitudes towards food safety (AOR=2.54 (1.52– 4.25)) were the factors associated with knowledge of food safety. Similarly, training (AOR=2.05, 95% CI=1.31– 3.19), a good level of knowledge (AOR: 1.68, 95% CI: 1.40, 3.17), and work experience (AOR = 1.24, 95% CI: 1.10– 2.81) were positively associated with good food handling practice. Conclusion: In this study, the level of food safety knowledge and handling practices were relatively low. Therefore, the concerned bodies should work on the identified factors to improve food handlers' knowledge of food safety and practice level. Continuous training for food handlers should be given. Introduction: Proper self-care in patients with chronic illnesses, such as heart failure is allied with the prevention or early detection of health problems and improved clinical outcomes. Even though self-care among patients with heart failure is commonly poor, a low-sodium diet, regular exercise, and weight monitoring are essential to control heart failure symptoms and exacerbation. Poor adherence to these self-care practices contributes to an increase in hospitalization, morbidity, and mortality. Objective: To assess adherence to self-care practices and associated factors among outpatient adult heart failure patients attending cardiac center in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, 2020. Methods: Institution-based cross-sectional study design was used to incorporate 396 heart failure patients who attended the cardiac center in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. The study was conducted from March to April 2020. Study participants were selected by using a systematic sampling technique. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews and from the patients' medical records. Epi-data version 3.1 and SPSS version 26 were used for data entry and analysis, respectively. Binary logistic regression analysis was performed to identify predictors of self-care practice. Those variables with p-value < 0.25 in the bivariable regression analysis were entered into the multivariable regression analysis and the result were presented using tables, chart, and mean. Results: Of 396 respondents, 111 (28%) of patients with heart failure had overall good self-care adherence. Comorbidity (AOR: 1.62; 95% CI: 1.07– 2.624), level of knowledge (AOR: 3.58; 95% CI: 2.23– 5.79) and depression (AOR: 2.45; 95% CI: 1.048– 5.726) were factors significantly associated with adherence to self-care practice. Conclusion: Comorbidity, inadequate knowledge, and depression were predictors of self-care practice. As a result, nursing intervention programs regarding knowledge on heart failure are recommended for enhancing self-care practices. Introduction: Food hygiene is an essential matter of public health for protecting or preventing diseases caused by unsafe food due to lack of good quality from production to consumption. Objective: The current study aimed at assessing the food hygiene practice and determinant factors among food handlers working at the University of Gondar. Methods: Univariate and multivariable binary logistic regression analyses were used to test the association of covariates with the food safety practice. Variables with p-value < 0.2 were candidates for multivariable analysis. The adjusted odds ratio with 95% confidence interval and p-values less than 0.05 were used to report associations in the final model. Results: A total of 184(46.7%) of the study subjects had good self-reported food hygiene practice. Being male [Adjusted odds ratio (AOR): 2.37, 95% confidence interval (CI) (1.34, 4.19)], educational status (primary [AOR: 2.54, 95% CI (1.16, 5.58)] and secondary [AOR: 2.20, 95% CI (1.11, 4.37)]), workers with greater than 2 years work experience [AOR: 1.86, 95% CI (1.06, 3.25)], monthly income of 2044– 4867ETB/month [AOR: 2.05, 95% CI (1.01, 4.16)] were independent predictors of food safety practice of food handlers. Conclusion and Recommendations: Below half of the study subjects had good self-reported food hygiene practice. Sex, educational status, and income were factors associated with the food hygiene practice. There should be continuous supportive supervision to raise the skills of food handlers to comply to better food hygiene practice. Food hygiene training should be given especially to female food handlers. Frequent audits are also required to ensure the permanence of effective and continuous training. Folate is a vitamin B‐related substance needed by expectant mothers during the period right before and after conception (peri‐conceptional period) to help protect foetuses against neural tube defects (NTDs). Despite efforts to promote the peri‐conceptional uptake of folic acid (FA), adherence remains low. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence and determinants of peri‐conceptional FA uptake among childbearing women in northern Ghana. In a cross‐sectional study, data from 303 women accessing antenatal care services in the Upper East Region of Ghana between February and July 2017 were collected and analysed in Stata (Version 12.1). Chi‐square and logistic regression analysis were used to identify the independent determinants of peri‐conceptional uptake of FA. The mean age of the study population was 27.4 (±5.73) years. The prevalence of uptake of peri‐conceptional FA was 28.7% (95% confidence interval: 26.7%‐34.2%); 66% of the women were aware of FA and 52% had acceptable knowledge about FA. Initiating ANC after 3 months of pregnancy was associated with 91% less chance of peri‐conceptional FA use [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) 0.09; 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.04‐0.22; P <.001]. Not knowing the frequency of dosing of FA was associated with a 58% less likelihood of uptake of peri‐conceptional FA (AOR 0.42; 95% CI 0.23‐0.76; P =.004). There is low uptake of peri‐conceptional FA among women of childbearing age accessing antenatal services in Northern Ghana, and this uptake is determined by the time of initiation of ANC visit and knowledge of dosage regimen of FA. Background: "Fertility desire" is the intention of people to have more children despite being diagnosed with HIV, whereas intentions denote a commitment to implement that desire. Despite the overwhelming effects of HIV on a fetus, there is a desire for fertility among people positive for the virus/disease worldwide.  Therefore, this study aimed to assess fertility desires and factors associated with sexually active HIV positive reproductive-age women attending ART clinics at Amhara region referral hospitals, Northwest Ethiopia. Methods: An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted on reproductive-age women attending the clinics at the hospitals. A total of 427 eligible women were systematically included in the study. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect data via interviewer-administered techniques. EpiInfo7 and STATA 14 software was used for data entry and analysis, respectively. The logistic regression analysis method was used to identify factors associated with fertility desire. Factors that had p-values of ≤0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: The findings indicated that 40.3% (95% CI; 35.7%, 45.0%) of the participants reported they had the desire to have children in the future. Variables such as women in the age group of 25–34 years (AOR= 2.80, 95% CI; 1.68, 4.68), participating with their sexual partner (AOR=3.52, 95% CI; 1.36, 9.13) and married women (AOR=2.32, 95% CI; 1.05, 5.10) had a positive association with the outcome variable, whereas having one or more live children (AOR=0.19, 95% CI; 0.09, 0.39) and having no formal education (AOR= 0.51, 95% CI; 0.29, 0.89) had a negative association with fertility desire. Conclusion: The proportion of sexually active HIV-positive women with desire for children was high among women visiting referral hospitals. Therefore, programmers and policymakers need to expand new PMTCT services throughout the region and consider the effects of these factors on HIV-positive women, as they develop interventions. BACKGROUND: Healthcare providers (HCPs) are at the forefront of screening and identifying preconception risk factors leading to adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs). In Ethiopia, there is no published study that assessed the status of the implementation of PCC. This is a study conducted with the aim of determining the level of HCP’s PCC practice and factors associated with non-implementation of PCC. METHODS: This institution based cross-sectional study conducted among HCPs working in public health institutions (PHI) of Hawassa. The data was collected using a validated instrument called ‘Andarg-Ethio PCC-KAPQuestionnaire’. A ltistage sampling was applied to draw a sample of 634 HCPs. The data were analyzed using SPSS software, version 20. Descriptive statistics and binary as well as multiple logistic regression analysis models were used to determine the cruds and adjusted odds ratios. RESULTS: Out of the total study participants, 84.7%(537) were found not totally practising PCC. Those HCPs who do not screen their clients’ reproductive life plan (RPL) had 7 times higher odds of not practising PCC (AOR=7.2 95% C.I. 3.6- 14.5), whereas those HCPs with poor PCC knowledge had 4 times higher odds of not practising PCC (AOR= 4.4, 95% C.I. 2.5-7.6). CONCLUSION: The findings of this study demonstrated the absence of standardized and consistent PCC practice which indicates that PCC is not well introduced to the area. Understanding modifiable determinants of full immunization of children provide a valuable contribution to immunization programs and help reduce disease, disability, and death. This study is aimed to assess the individual and community-level determinants of full immunization coverage among children in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This study used data from the Demographic and Health Survey 2013–14 from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Data regarding total 3,366 children between 12 and 23 months of age were used in this study. Children who were immunized with one dose of BCG, three doses of polio, three doses of DPT, and a dose of measles vaccine was considered fully immunized. Descriptive statistics were calculated for the prevalence and distribution of full immunization coverage. Two-level multilevel logistic regression analysis, with individual-level (level 1) characteristics nested within community-level (level 2) characteristics, was used to assess the individual- and community-level determinants of full immunization coverage. This study found that about 45.3% [95%CI: 42.02, 48.52] of children aged 12–23 months were fully immunized in the DRC. The results confirmed immunization coverage varied and ranged between 5.8% in Mongala province to 70.6% in Nord-Kivu province. Results from multilevel analysis revealed that, four Antenatal Care (ANC) visits [AOR: 1.64; 95%CI: 1.23, 2.18], institutional delivery [AOR: 2.37; 95%CI: 1.52, 3.72], and Postnatal Care (PNC) service utilization [AOR: 1.43; 95%CI: 1.04, 1.95] were statistically significantly associated with the full immunization coverage. Similarly, children of mothers with secondary or higher education [AOR: 1.32; 95%CI: 1.00, 1.81] and from the richest wealth quintile [AOR: 1.96; 95%CI: 1.18, 3.27] had significantly higher odds of being fully immunized compared to their counterparts whose mothers were relatively poorer and less educated. Among the community-level characteristics, residents of the community with a higher rate of institutional delivery [AOR: 2.36; 95%CI: 1.59, 3.51] were found to be positively associated with the full immunization coverage. Also, the random effect result found about 35% of the variation in immunization coverage among the communities was attributed to community-level factors.The Democratic Republic of Congo has a noteworthy gap in full immunization coverage. Modifiable factors–particularly health service utilization including four ANC visits, institutional delivery, and postnatal visits–had a strong positive effect on full immunization coverage.
