Abstract

This article discusses the novel "Strange Heaven," by Lynn Coady. The novel, suggestive of the increasing and subversive self-consciousness of the Atlantic-Canadian literature, is about a Cape Breton teenager who has undergone psychiatric therapy after giving up her baby for adoption. The novel builds on the conflicts arising from the social mores of a small town. The author concludes that Coady explores such complexities with a dark and combative humor just like any East Coast writers.
