The article presents a study which reviews the improvements in minimizing nuclear wastes by innovative gas-cooled reactors. It analyses the symbiotic fuel cycles coupling of light water reactors (LWR) with high temperature reactors (HTR), and finally closing the cycle by gas-cooled fast reactors (GCFR). The study also analyses the fertile-free and plutoniom-thorium based fuel in HTR. It also investigates the burning of residual Masurium with the use of GCFRs. The study concludes that with the coupling of HTR with GCFR, the geological disposal issues concerning the radiotoxicity of Masurium can be considerably reduced.
