Background & Objective: Nearly two decades have passed since the establishment of evidencebased medicine (EBM) EBM is of great importance due to its ability to fill the information gap between medical research and clinical practice The aim of the present study was to evaluate the existing evidence of the application of EBM in published Iranian educational papers Methods: This is a systematic review of Iranian papers published in both Iranian and international journals The results were reviewed by two researchers separately to assess the inclusion and exclusion criteria and evaluate the level of evidence We used the Best Evidence Medical Education (BEME) guideline for conducting the systematic review and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and MetaAnalyses (PRISMA) flowchart to present the selection process In addition the Medical Education Research Quality Index (MERSQI) was used for the evaluation of the quality of the studies Results: EBM was used in 11 fields which can be categorized as the 4 clinical educational research and policymaking groups The educational group consisted of 3 domains of holding a journal club case discussions and teaching and learning Only 6 studies were found to report the effect of education on the application of evidencebased medicine The evaluation of their quality showed average quality Conclusion: Although there are a limited number of studies on the effect of education on EBM application they present satisfactory and average quality evidence Despite the existence of various educational courses on EBM in Iran no high level and high quality evidence exists to show the effectiveness of education on knowledge attitude practice and behavior of healthcare professionals especially in the longterm Thus the designing and performing of high quality research is required in this field

Background & Objective: Evidencebased medicine (EBM) is a systematic review process for evaluating and using results of the best clinical trials for diagnosis and treatment of diseases It must comply with the values and specific circumstances of each patient in need of treatment Since very few studies have examined the competence of different groups of medical professionals in this area this study was conducted to assess the competence of residents in EBM Methods: This descriptive crosssectional study was conducted on 90 residents from 4 main clinical departments in Kerman University of Medical Sciences Iran in 2013 The data collection tool was the Berlin Standard Questionnaire The samples were selected using census method and data were analyzed using SPSS software Results: Among the participants in the study 422% were male and 578% female with the mean age of 3117 ± 332 years Based on the results of the study residents had little competence in the field of evidencebased medicine their scores ranged from 0 to 8 and their mean score was 254 ± 143 of a total of 15 Conclusion: Considering the mean score and low competence of residents in evidencebased medicine shortterm programs by the relevant departments seem essential to rapidly promote knowledge of evidencebased medicine

Background & Objective: Interns are one of the most important groups among medical student and thus must learn to use evidencebased medicine (EBM) The present study was performed with the aim of evaluating the knowledge of medical interns of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences (MUMS) Iran on evidencebased medicine in 2013 Methods: In this descriptive crosssectional study 70 medical interns were selected using convenience sampling method Data were gathered using a standard questionnaire and analyzed by descriptive statistics and SPSS software Results: The information source for clinical decision making in 657% of interns were their textbooks among which 629% used textbooks because of their accessibility In addition 957% of interns believed EBM to be useful in improving patient care However only 371% of them knew the meaning of EBM and 957% were not familiar with EBM internet sites Conclusion: Integrated planning is necessary in order to include EBM courses in medical curriculum and to teach the use of internet and correct forms of searching

Background & Objective: Most experts of Iranian traditional medicine believe that it is absolutely necessary and inevitable to update the field to utilize evidence in education of Iranian traditional medicine students and treatment of its patients In this regard this study attempted to evaluate utilization of evidencebased medicine (EBM) in the curriculum of School of Iranian Traditional Medicine Methods: In this qualitative study semistructured individual and facetoface interviews were done to collect Iranian traditional medicine experts point of views in regard to EBM Content analysis was done to analyze the data Results: The study findings were classified in two major categories including EBM in the curriculum of Iranian traditional medicine and EBM application in Iranian School of Traditional Medicine The subcategories were also mentioned Conclusion: Although some sections of PhD program in traditional medicine are related to evidence based medicine it is not satisfying yet Therefore the concept and principles of evidence based practice should be included in theory and practice

Background & Objective: Evidencebased medicine (EBM) is defined as the application of the best research evidence in making decisions in the management of the individual patient EBM due to its importance has obtained great consideration in recent years This study was designed to determine the knowledge of Medical residents in Shiraz School of Medicine about EBM and the application of it by them Methods : In this crosssectional study performed in 2006 71 residents of Shiraz School of Medicine were studied by using a questionnaire The validity of the questionnaire was approved by getting experts opinions and internal consistency reliability was determined in a pilot study Results : In whole 939% of residents had positive attitudes toward EBM but 803% of them reported that they had not passed any formal education in this field From all participants 85% have access to internet but more than 70% of them were not aware of EBM resources and 609% of them mentioned that for the management of their patients during the previous year they had used Medline or other search engines less than 10 times Conclusion : According to the obtained results in spite of positive attitude toward EBM and internet access residents have not yet integrated the use of EBM with their professional practice widely and also they are not familiar with specific EBM Sites This may be due to the lack of education in the field of EBM Because of the important role of Medical residents in making clinical decisions and also their role in training Medical students inclusion of EBM training courses in their educational program is highly necessary
