Abstract

A copper vapor laser tube with a large volume (15.1 L) has been built for the study of extrapolation in power of the Cu-Ne-HCl-H/sub 2/ laser medium. A high-power (77 kW) all-solid-state high-voltage power supply has been also used for this purpose. Results show an improvement of the optical power after the HCl-H/sub 2/ mixture injection. An optical power of 312 W has been extracted from this laser head in oscillator configuration.

Abstract

A large volume laser tube of dimensions 80-mm inner diameter by 3-m long (15.1 litres) has been built for the study of extrapolation in power of the Cu-Ne-HCl-H2 laser medium. A high power (77 kW) all solid state high voltage power supply has been also used for this purpose. Results show an improvement of the optical power after the HCl/H2 mixture injection. Abstract

A large-volume (19.5 L) laser tube has been built for the study of extrapolating power from the Cu-Ne-HBr laser medium. A high-power (50 kW) all-solid-state power supply has been also developed for this purpose. Results show a record optical power of 216 W extracted from this type of laser when used as an oscillator and 280 W as an amplifier.

Abstract

The electron density ( n e ) is determined by measuring the associated microscopic Stark effect on the Balmer emission lines of atomic hydrogen present as a trace in the laser active volume. We deduce the radial and temporal evolution of n e and suggest the main physical processes leading to this evolution.
