The article reports on a sampling of wild birds in eastern North America to determine specific strains of Campylobacter, as Campylobacter jejuni is responsible for bacterial foodborne gastroenteritis resulting from undercooked poultry consumption. Campylobacter overall prevalence was 9.2% for all birds sampled. It is shown that wild birds can carry and disperse emerging zoonotic pathogens or their arthropod vectors, and are an important aspect of public health.
