THEORY of knowledge ,KNOWLEDGE management ,META-analysis ,LITERATURE reviews ,KNOWLEDGE base - Abstract
In this paper, we are interested in the knowledge that is "wasted" in organizations, that is existing relevant knowledge that is overlooked in the process of knowledge conversion. Given the competitive pressure firms are facing in today's business environment, a waste of knowledge is not only costly but also dangerous. This means that we consider knowledge from a knowledge at risk perspective. Having this in mind, the purpose of this paper is to review research on knowledge waste in organizations to establish our current body of knowledge regarding this topic. The study consists of a systematic review of 51 peer-reviewed articles addressing knowledge waste in organizations. To the best of the authors' knowledge, no systematic literature review on this topic has previously been published or presented. The topic seems to be a promising field for intensive research and offers a variety of future research avenues. In view of practitioners, the study's finding may enable an increased awareness towards the areas where existing knowledge is at the mercy of "waste". This can assist practitioners to better cope with risks related to this waste and, therefore, better exploit the (limited) knowledge base available. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose -- The purpose of this paper is to review extant literature to identify models intended to measure/classify intellectual capital (IC) to establish the current body of knowledge that has been built since the review by Marr et al (2004). Design/methodology/approach -- The study consists of a systematic review of peer-reviewed articles on IC classification. The review was conducted for the period 2004-2014 in order to reach the aim. To ensure that all major models are included, important works developed prior to 2004 were captured as well. Findings -- The review resulted in 83 additional models indicating continued research activities with regard to the topic. These models were merged with prior IC models and mapped on a timeline. The timeline clarifies that 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 represent the years of greatest research activity (outcomes). Additionally, the analysis of the list of IC frameworks resulted in the development of an IC Meta model. It synthesizes research activities in the field and highlights the main IC dimensions and sub-dimensions. Research limitations/implications -- This study may not have enabled a complete coverage of all existing peer-reviewed articles in the field of IC classification. Yet, it seems reasonable to assume that the review process covered a large proportion of studies available. Originality/value -- By aggregating and consolidating the IC frameworks covered, the study does not only provide an IC Meta model, but also promising directions for future research. MANAGEMENT of intellectual capital ,ORGANIZATIONAL performance ,MARKETS ,ECONOMIC competition ,BUSINESS planning ,DATABASES ,THEORY of knowledge - Abstract
Companies look to be ahead in its segment, or remain in the market. Therefore, it is necessary to obtain competitive advantage, going to have to continuously improve their management strategies. One of these is directly related to how innovative production processes are and how well they are managed, resulting in the launch of new portfolio of projects equal or superior to those previously produced. For this, intellectual capital and its knowledge are fundamental and its wastage management is a factor that could be determinant. Scholars sustains that the effective management of people planning must be a part of overall corporate strategy. But, how about the knowledge waste? In this context, the research highlight the problem associated with the performance of intellectual capital, may be impacted, or not by the use of knowledge in part or in whole process, the loss and / or forgetfulness, or use knowledge that does not add value for the company, its customers consequently. This work researched the databases: EBSCO; Emerald; Compendex; Scopus; ISI; and Wiley that occasioned in 506 articles which were systematically analysed, resulting in this theoretical article that presents the main references on the subject and a scientific essay regarding the importance of managing the intellectual capital knowledge waste. We concluded that managing the forms of knowledge waste, it is expected an improvement of performance and competitive advantage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

When viewing a business opportunity in the market and wanting to exploit it, is necessary to make a business plan. This plan will draw a new company to attend to the needs of a particular market niche. However, if we take into consideration the current marketing context, in the new era of knowledge-base firms, there is great need to deal with Knowledge Management, it is necessary that new companies born differently. This article aims to highlight the importance of Knowledge Management (KM) in Business Plans. This article is an exploratory literature review, establishing the relationship between intellectual capital and its importance for new businesses through a business plan. The method used in the paper is structured in three parts: Literature Review, Research Development and Empirical Evidence. Through the questionnaire applied to 21 professionals (managers, consultants and lecturers) from Brazil, Spain and Germany. It was identified that there was an agreement of most experts highlighting the importance of the inclusion of KM in the preparation of Business Plans. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

KNOWLEDGE management , *ORGANIZATIONAL resilience , *SITUATIONAL awareness , *DECISION making , *OPERATIONS management - Abstract
Resilience, viewed from an engineering perspective, refers to a system's inherent ability to regulate its operation before, during, and after disruptions. Knowledge is a critical resource that enables resilient responses, as it is essential for responding, monitoring, anticipating unforeseen events, and learning from their occurrences. However, despite the importance of knowledge in promoting resilience in operational safety, there is a lack of tools in the literature that provide evidence and explanation of knowledge resources. To address this gap, this article presents the development stages of an instrument based on the Critical Decision Method to elicit critical knowledge in Operational Safety Events (OSEs). The instrument includes a set of questions that guide the identification of decision-making points and the exploration of knowledge resources mobilized at each stage, founded on situational awareness, resilience engineering, and knowledge engineering. Prospective analysis sessions and retrospective OSE analyses were conducted with teams of workers from offshore oil and gas production and exploration platforms to assess the instrument's feasibility. The instrument enabled the identification of critical knowledge in both scenarios, which served as valuable input for promoting security and resilience. The instrument also facilitated the identification of opportunities to promote organizational learning and the development of effective actions to strengthen intangible resources that influence resilient responses, thereby enabling a thorough exploration of knowledge resources in retrospective analyses or prospective sessions of accidents and severe operational safety events. KNOWLEDGE management , *ORGANIZATION management , *ORGANIZATIONAL change , *KNOWLEDGE transfer , *SOCIOMETRY - Abstract
For several years now, we have been living in a society called the knowledge society, in which the primary resource is knowledge. It is no longer just a personal input but also a strategic asset in the development of organizations. In this context, we have an area dedicated to studying and analyzing organizational knowledge flow (KF), which is defined as the process of transferring knowledge between people and/or knowledge processing mechanisms. A lack of studies compiling the most recent scientific production on KF has been identified in the literature analysis. This makes it difficult to understand the current context of the field, identify the main knowledge gaps and trends in this area of study. Thus, the research objective was to map the characteristics of scientific production on the knowledge flow construct by analyzing bibliometric and sociometric indicators to discover the state of the art and suggest future research in the field. An analysis was performed based on over 3,000 articles and reviews extracted from Scopus, Web of Science, and IEEE Xplore databases. The results indicate that (i) research on the flow of knowledge has been stable since 2013, with a constant number of studies and publications in recent years; (ii) the main authors are from the Asian, European, and American continents without having a hegemony; (iii) prominent approaches are the relationship of knowledge flow within knowledge management processes and within the innovation ecosystem; and (iv) the analysis of the flow of knowledge gains potential importance, mainly in guiding action plans in knowledge management (KM) and in the search for better results in organizations.
