The aim of this study was to investigate clinical and instrumental outcomes of the autologous matrix-induced chondrogenesis (AMIC) technique for the treatment of isolated traumatic condyle and femoropatellar cartilage lesions. A total of 25 patients (12 males, 13 females, mean age 47.3 years) treated between 2018 and 2021 were retrospectively reviewed and subdivided into two groups based on age (Group A, age < 45 years; Group B, age > 45 years). A clinical evaluation was performed using the International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC), Lysholm score and Visual Analogue Score (VAS). Cartilage regeneration was evaluated via magnetic resonance (1.5 Tesla) and classified according to a Magnetic resonance Observation of CArtilage Repair Tissue (MOCART) scoring system. At a minimum follow-up of 2 years, Group A patients obtained greater instrumental results in comparison to group B: in fact, the MOCART score was statistically significantly correlated with IKDC (r = 0.223) (p < 0.001) exclusively in group A. Nevertheless, a significant improvement in clinical functionality was shown in Group B (p < 0.001), demonstrating that this technique is safe, reproducible and capable of offering satisfactory clinical results regardless of age. Articular cartilage injuries are found in up to 60% of patients who undergo an arthroscopic knee procedure, and those that totally affect articular cartilage (grade IV) have limited regenerative capacity and extended time for recovery. 3-D scaffolds represent a novel solution to address this type of injury. Our purpose was to analyze the MRI findings and functional status of patients that underwent repair of chondral defects either by microfractures or Hyaluronan (HA) 3-D scaffolding. We conducted a retrospective study of patients with chondral defects. The outcomes analyzed in this study included anatomical changes evaluated by the Henderson score (based on MRI findings) at baseline, 6, and 12 months after surgery, and improvement in functionality evaluated by the Modified Cincinnati Knee Rating System (MCKRS) at baseline and 6 months after surgery. Clinical and demographic characteristics were similar for both groups. There was a statistically significant improvement in Henderson score for the 3-D scaffold-treated group at 6 months versus the microfracture group (p < 0.0001). Improvement in functionality, measured by the MCKRS, was more frequently found in the 3-D scaffold-treated group. In conclusion, the use of HA 3-D scaffolding was superior, with faster recovery evident 6 months after the surgery that progressed to full recovery in all patients a year after surgery. This study systematically updated and summarised the current literature on the surgical management of isolated chondral defects of the patellofemoral joint, discussing techniques, outcome, pitfalls, and new frontiers. Methods This systematic review was conducted according to the 2020 PRISMA statement. In August 2022, PubMed, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and Embase databases were accessed with no time constrain. All the clinical studies investigating the surgical management of chondral defects of the patellofemoral joint were retrieved. Articles which reported data on patients with advanced to severe osteoarthritis were not eligible. Only studies with a minimum 24 months follow-up were considered. Studies which mixed results of patellofemoral and tibiofemoral joints were not considered. Results Data from 10 studies (692 procedures) were retrieved. The mean follow-up was 46.9 ± 18.2 months. The mean age of the patients was 34.0 ± 6.1 years, and the mean BMI was 25.9 ± 0.8 kg/m2. The mean duration of symptoms before the index surgery was 81.0 ± 24.0 months. The mean defect size was 3.8 ± 0.8 cm2. All the PROMs improved from baseline to last follow-up: VAS 0–10 (P = 0.04), Tegner (P = 0.02), Lysholm (P = 0.03), and International Knee Documentation Committee (P = 0.03). The rate of hypertrophy was 5.6% (14 of 251), the rate of progression to total knee arthroplasty was 2.4% (2 of 83), the rate of revision was 16.9% (29 of 136), and the rate of failure was 13.0% (16 of 123). Conclusion Current surgical strategies may be effective to improve symptoms deriving from chondral defects of the patellofemoral joint. The limited and heterogeneous data included for analysis impact negatively the results of the present study. Further clinical studies are strongly required to define surgical indications and outcomes, and the most suitable technique.

Background: Knee pain is one of the commonest symptoms in patients who attend the Orthopaedic outpatient clinics. Chondral defects result in a painful knee. Incidence of chondral defect is reported to be between 5 and 10% over the age of 40. It is well documented that chondral defects can lead to osteoarthritis. Early detection of these lesions and cartilage repair surgery can delay the onset of osteoarthritis. The purpose of this study is to highlight the incidence, associations and correlations between opposing cartilage defects in patients who present to the knee clinic with pain. Methods: A retrospective analysis was carried out on patients who had Magnetic Resonance Imaging scans for painful knees between June 2017 and May 2019. About 227 consecutive knees were studied for the incidence of chondral defects, number of lesions, grade and size of lesion, geographical location and associated pathology in the knee. Results: All the 227 patients had chondral lesions. Most patients had 2–3 lesions (66.1%) with patellar lesions (76.6%) being the commonest followed by medial femoral condyle (59.9%). Significant correlation was found in grade and size between opposing surface lesions in patella-trochlea, Medial Femoral Condyle-Medial Tibial Plateau and Lateral Femoral Condyle-Lateral Tibial Plateau. Females were more predisposed to patella lesions. Significance between age and lesions were established. Conclusion: Incidence of cartilage defects in the knee is very high. Several surgical techniques have been proposed for the management of chondral defects: microfractures (MFX), osteochondral autograft transplantation (OAT), autologous matrix-induced chondrogenesis (AMIC) and autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI)—first generation (pACI), second generation (cACI) and third generation (mACI). A Bayesian network meta-analysis was conducted to compare these surgical strategies for chondral defects in knee at midterm follow-up. Methods This Bayesian network meta-analysis was conducted according to the PRISMA extension statement for reporting of systematic reviews incorporating network meta-analyses of health care interventions. PubMed, Google Scholar, Embase and Scopus databases were accessed in July 2021. All the prospective comparative clinical trials investigating two or more surgical interventions for chondral defects of the knee were accessed. The network meta-analyses were performed through a Bayesian hierarchical random-effects model analysis. The log odds ratio (LOR) effect measures were used for dichotomic variables, while the standardized mean difference (SMD) for the continuous variables. Results Data from 2220 procedures (36 articles) were retrieved. The median follow-up was 36 (24 to 60) months. The ANOVA test found good baseline comparability between symptoms duration, age, sex and body mass index. AMIC resulted in higher Lysholm score (SMD 3.97) and Tegner score (SMD 2.10). AMIC demonstrated the lowest rate of failures (LOR −0.22) and the lowest rate of revisions (LOR 0.89). As expected, MFX reported the lower rate of hypertrophy (LOR −0.17) followed by AMIC (LOR 0.21). No statistically significant inconsistency was found in the comparisons. Conclusion AMIC procedure for focal chondral defects of the knee performed better overall at approximately 3 years’ follow-up.

Introduction: Autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) has undergone several technical modifications. Objectives: To compare clinical outcomes and graft survivorship between ''first-generation'' periosteum-covered ACI (ACI-P) and ''second-generation'' collagen membrane ACI (ACI-C). Methods: A total of 400 consecutive ACI cases performed by a single surgeon were reviewed. Of the total, 200 were treated with ACI-P and 200 ACI-C. Patients with a minimum follow-up of 2 years were included (ACI-P, n = 112; ACI-C, n = 94). A separate long-term analysis was completed with a mean follow-up of 9 ± 1.8 years in the ACI-P group and 12 ± 2.2 years in the ACI-C group. Clinical outcomes and graft survivorship were compared at both follow-up intervals. Predictors of treatment failures and subsequent surgical procedures (SSPs) were identified. Results: Treatment failures were significantly greater among ACI-P cases compared to ACI-C, P = .007 with a greater proportion of cases with disease progression in the ACI-P cohort, P = .022. SSPs were greater in the ACI-P cohort, P < .001. Debridement for symptomatic hypertrophy was the most frequently performed SSP among ACI-P cases. ACI generation and prior marrow stimulation were significant predictors of treatment failures and SSPs. There were significant mean improvements in patient subjective responses within treatment groups. No differences in patient subjective responses were observed between ACI generations. Cumulative graft survivorship was greater in the ACI-C cohort (P = .024). Conclusions: The use of ACI-C improved clinical outcomes with a reduction in treatment failures, SSPs, and graft hypertrophy, allowing the surgeon to treat a greater number of bipolar and multiple lesion cases with similar functional outcomes when compared to ACI-P.

Purpose: The autologous collagen-induced chondrogenesis technique is described, and the results of a 6-year follow-up clinical study using this technique are presented. Methods: 30 patients with International Cartilage Repair Society (ICRS) Grade III/IVa symptomatic chondral defects of the knee treated with enhanced microdrilling using atelocollagen were prospectively examined in this clinical series. The median age of the patients was 39.0 years (range 19–61 years). Patients were followed up to 72 months. Clinical evaluation was performed using functional knee scores and radiologically. Both quantitative and qualitative assessments were performed. Results: Statistically significant and clinically relevant improvement was observed in 2 years and was sustained for the 6 years of the study observation. At 6 years, the mean Lysholm score was 79.7 (SD 6.8) compared to 52.6 (SD 10.7) pre-operatively (p < 0.05). The symptomatic Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) improved from 68.3 (SD 11.4) to 90.2 (SD 4.3) (p < 0.05). The subjective International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) also showed improvement from 39.1 (SD 4.1) to 81.6 (SD 7.8) (p < 0.05). The calculated T2* relaxation times were 26.0 (SD 4.2) seconds and 30.3 (SD 6.2) seconds for the repair tissue and native cartilage, respectively. The average magnetic resonance observation of cartilage repair tissue (MOCART) score was 78.5 (SD 9.6) for all lesions. Conclusion: The enhanced microdrilling using atelocollagen is an enhancement of the traditional microfracture method using an off-the-shelf product. Introduction: Evidence on the management of chondral defects of the patella arises from studies in which the patellofemoral joint was treated together with the femorotibial joint and primary and revision settings. Furthermore, the superiority of Autologous Matrix Induced Chondrogenesis (AMIC) over microfractures (MFx) for patellar chondral defects is uncertain. Therefore, the present study compared primary isolated AMIC versus MFx for focal unipolar chondral defects of the patellar facet joints at midterm follow-up. Methods: Patients undergoing AMIC or isolated MFx surgery for borderline-sized focal unipolar chondral defects of the patellar facet joints were followed at our institution. All surgeries were performed in the same fashion by experienced surgeons. A parapatellar arthrotomy was adopted in all surgeries. The outcomes of interest were: Visual Analogic Scale (VAS), Tegner Activity Scale, International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC), and the Lysholm scores. The Magnetic Resonance Observation of Cartilage Repair Tissue (MOCART) was assessed by a blinded radiologist, who had not been involved in the clinical management of the patients. Results: 38 patients were enrolled in the present study: 27 underwent AMIC, and 11 MFx. The mean follow-up was 45.1 months. The mean age of the patients at baseline was 34.5 years. The mean size of the defect was 2.6 cm2. The MFx cohort experienced a shorter length of the hospitalization (P = 0.008). There was no difference in terms of follow-up and previous symptoms duration, mean age, sex, side, defect size, and BMI. At last follow-up, the AMIC cohort reported greater IKDC (P = 0.01), Lysholm (P = 0.009), and Tegner (P = 0.02), along with a low rate of failure (P = 0.02). VAS was lower in the AMIC group (P = 0.002). No difference was found in the MOCART score (P = 0.09), rates of revision (P = 0.06), and arthroplasty (P = 0.2). Conclusion: The AMIC procedure achieves greater IKDC and Lysholm score, and a significant reduction of the VAS score in the management of patellar chondral defects. The Tegner scale demonstrated greater activity after AMIC procedure. Finally, the AMIC group evidenced a lower rate of failure. Similarity was found on MOCART score, rates of revision, and arthroplasty between the two procedures.

Introduction: The potential of autologous matrix-induced chondrogenesis (AMIC) to restore unipolar focal chondral defects of the knee is promising. However, the outcome compared to microfracturing (MFx) for certain defect sizes (2–3 cm2) is still uncertain. Therefore, the present study compared primary isolated AMIC versus MFx in a cohort of patients with borderline sized focal unipolar chondral defects of the knee at midterm follow-up. Methods: Patients with chondral defects of the knee who underwent AMIC or MFx were compared. An arthroscopic approach was used for MFx, and a minimally invasive parapatellar arthrotomy for AMIC. For those patients who underwent AMIC, a collagen membrane was used with fibrin glue. The patients answered independently: Visual Analogic Scale (VAS), Tegner Activity Scale, International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC), and the Lysholm scores. Results: A total of 83 patients with a mean age of 30.2 and body mass index (BMI) of 26.9 kg/m2 were recruited. Of them, 33.7% (28 of 83) were women, and 55.4% (46 of 83 patients) had defects in the right knee. The mean length of symptoms before surgery was 43.3 months. The mean size of the defect was 2.7 cm2. The mean length of follow-up was 42.1 months. No difference was found in terms of symptoms and follow-up length, mean age and BMI, mean size of defect, sex, and side. The AMIC cohort reported greater IKCD (p > 0.0001), Lysholm (p = 0.002), VAS (p = 0.01), Tegner (p = 0.004) scores. The AMIC cohort reported lower rate of failure (p = 0.005) and revision surgery (p = 0.02). No difference was found in the rate of arthroplasty (p = 0.2). No delamination or hypertrophy were detected. Conclusion: AMIC demonstrated superiority over MFx for focal unipolar chondral defects of the knee. At approximately 40 months follow-up, the IKDC, Lysholm, and VAS scores were greater in the AMIC group. Patients treated with AMIC also demonstrated a higher level of sport activity, and lower rates of failure and revision surgeries.

Increased muscle co-contraction during gait is common in individuals with knee pathology, and worrisome as it is known to amplify tibiofemoral compressive forces. While knees with articular cartilage defects (ACD) are more vulnerable to compressive forces, muscle co-contraction has never been reported in this population. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the extent to which individuals with ACDs in the knee demonstrate elevated quadriceps to hamstrings muscle co-contraction on the involved limb during gait compared to the uninvolved limb and to healthy controls. We also explored the impact of participant characteristics and knee impairments on co-contraction. Twenty-nine individuals with full-thickness knee ACDs (ACD group) and 19 healthy adults (control group) participated in this study. Participants performed five gait trials at self-selected speed, during which activity of the quadriceps and hamstrings muscles were collected with surface electromyography. Three-dimensional motion capture was used to define phases of gait. Quadriceps strength and self-reported outcomes were also assessed in the same session. There were no differences in quadriceps: hamstrings co-contraction between the ACD and control groups, or between the involved and uninvolved limb for the ACD group. For both ACD and control groups, co-contraction was highest in early stance and lowest in late stance. Quadriceps strength was consistently the strongest predictor of muscle co-contraction in both the ACD and the control groups, with individuals with lower strength demonstrating greater co-contraction. Further study is needed to understand the effect of increased muscle co-contraction on joint compressive forces in the presence of varied quadriceps strength. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the practice of microfracture surgery for knee chondral defects among Canadian orthopedic surgeons. Methods: All orthopedic surgeon members of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association were invited to participate in a survey, designed to explore the microfracture technique used by orthopedic surgeons in the treatment for knee chondral defects The primary outcome measure was an emailed 26-item questionnaire, which explored indications for microfracture surgery, surgical techniques, types of postoperative rehabilitation regimes used and assessment of outcome. In addition, responses were compared between orthopedic surgeons with a sports medicine practice to surgeons with a non-sports medicine practice. Results: The survey response rate was 24.6% (299/1,216), with 131 regularly performing microfracture. 41% of surgeons indicated that they had no upper limit for age at the time of surgery, and 87% indicated no upper limit for body mass index. The majority of respondents (97%) resected cartilage back to a stable margin, while 69% of respondents removed the calcified cartilage layer prior to creating holes. Only 11% of respondents used continuous passive motion (CPM) postoperatively, and 39% did not restrict weight bearing. Sports surgeons were more likely than non-sports surgeons to remove the calcified cartilage layer, use a 45° pick, use CPM and restrict weight bearing postoperatively (all P values < 0.05). Conclusions: This survey on microfracture for knee chondral defects revealed widespread variation among surgeons regarding the indications for surgery, surgical technique, postoperative rehabilitation and assessment of outcome. Surgical treatment for chondral defects of the knee in competitive running and jumping athletes remains controversial. This study evaluated the performance outcomes of professional basketball players in the National Basketball Association (NBA) who underwent microfracture. Data from 24 professional basketball players from 1997 to 2006 was obtained and analyzed. NBA player efficiency ratings (PER) were calculated for two seasons before and after injury. A control group of 24 players was used for comparison. Study group and control group demographics including age, NBA experience, and minutes per game demonstrated no statistical difference. Mean time to return to an NBA game was 30.0 weeks from the time of surgery. The first season after returning to competition PER and minutes per game decreased by 3.5 ( P < 0.01) and 4.9 min ( P < 0.05), respectively. The 17 players who continued to play two or more seasons after surgery, the average reduction in their PER and minutes per game was 2.7 ( P > 0.05) and 3.0 min ( P < 0.26), respectively. A multivariant comparison versus controls demonstrated that power rating during the 2 years after surgery decreased by 3.1 ( P < 0.01); while minutes per game decreased by 5.2 ( P < 0.001). Abstract: There is no consensus on the ideal management of patients with chondral defects of the medial tibial plateau and varus malalignment of the knee. We performed a cohort study to evaluate the outcome of patients affected by these conditions, who underwent arthroscopic implantation of autologous chondrocytes and a medial opening wedge high tibial osteotomy. Eight patients (four men and four women; mean age, 50 years, range: 42 to 58) with chondral defects of the medial tibial plateau in a varus knee underwent arthroscopic implantations of autologous chondrocytes in conjunction with a medial opening wedge osteotomy. At final post-operative follow up of 28 months following the index procedure, the post-operative scores were improved for the IKDC score (four patients abnormal and four patients severely abnormal to four patients normal, three patients nearly normal and one patient abnormal), Lysholm score (65.7 range 49–88 to 94.6 range89–100), Tegner score (3.7 range3–5 to 7 range 5–8) and VAS score (7.2 to 2.0). In conclusion, the association of arthroscopic implantation of autologous chondrocytes with a medial opening wedge osteotomy of the proximal tibia is a viable option for the management of chondral defects in varus knees. The aim of this study was to describe clinical, structural and biochemical factors associated with knee pain in younger subjects. A cross-sectional convenience sample of 371 male and female subjects (mean age, 45 years, range 26–61) was studied. Knee pain was assessed by questionnaire. Chondral defects, cartilage volume, and bone area of the right knee were determined using T1-weighted fat saturation magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). X-ray was performed on the same knee for the assessment of radiographic features of osteoarthritis. The urinary C-terminal cross-linking telopeptide of type II collagen (CTX-II) was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Height and weight were measured by standard protocols and body mass index (BMI) was calculated. The prevalence of knee pain was 35% in this sample. Chondral defect scores (particularly femoral and patellar but not tibial) were significantly associated with knee pain in a dose–response fashion (all p<0.01). Cartilage volume and bone area were not associated with knee pain in multivariate analysis in this sample. Urinary CTX-II was higher in subjects with knee pain ( p=0.04), but this became nonsignificant after adjustment for BMI and osteophytes (both of which were significant) suggesting potential mechanisms of effect. In conclusion, knee pain is significantly associated with non-full thickness chondral defects (particularly femoral and patellar), osteophytes, CTX-II, and obesity but not other factors. Background: Studies that compare the effectiveness of different cartilage repair treatments are needed to update treatment algorithms. Hypothesis: Autologous chondrocyte implantation provides greater improvement in overall condition score than does debridement at a minimum of 3 years' follow-up. Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: Cohorts for debridement and autologous chondrocyte implantation each included 58 Cartilage Repair Registry patients who met study criteria. A retrospective analysis was performed on prospectively collected baseline and follow-up data. Results: Patients in the autologous chondrocyte implantation and debridement groups had similar demographics and chondral lesions at baseline. However, more autologous chondrocyte implantation patients failed a previous debridement or marrow stimulation procedure than did debridement patients. Follow-up outcome assessments were completed by 54 autologous chondrocyte implantation patients and 42 debridement patients. Eighty-one percent of the autologous chondrocyte implantation patients and 60% of the debridement patients reported median improvements of 5 points and 2 points, respectively, in the overall condition score. Autologous chondrocyte implantation patients also reported greater improvements in the median pain and swelling scores than did debridement patients. The treatment failure rate was the same for both autologous chondrocyte implantation and debridement patients. Eighteen autologous chondrocyte implantation patients and 1 debridement patient had at least 1 subsequent operation. Conclusion: Although patients treated with debridement for symptomatic, large, focal, chondral defects of the distal femur had some functional improvement at follow-up, patients who received autologous chondrocyte implantations obtained higher levels of knee function and had greater relief from pain and swelling at 3 years. Introduction: The potential of autologous matrix-induced chondrogenesis (AMIC) to restore unipolar focal chondral defects of the knee is promising. However, the outcome compared to microfracturing (MFx) for certain defect sizes (2–3 cm2) is still uncertain. Therefore, the present study compared primary isolated AMIC versus MFx in a cohort of patients with borderline sized focal unipolar chondral defects of the knee at midterm follow-up. Methods: Patients with chondral defects of the knee who underwent AMIC or MFx were compared. An arthroscopic approach was used for MFx, and a minimally invasive parapatellar arthrotomy for AMIC. For those patients who underwent AMIC, a collagen membrane was used with fibrin glue. The patients answered independently: Visual Analogic Scale (VAS), Tegner Activity Scale, International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC), and the Lysholm scores. Results: A total of 83 patients with a mean age of 30.2 and body mass index (BMI) of 26.9 kg/m2 were recruited. Of them, 33.7% (28 of 83) were women, and 55.4% (46 of 83 patients) had defects in the right knee. The mean length of symptoms before surgery was 43.3 months. The mean size of the defect was 2.7 cm2. The mean length of follow-up was 42.1 months. No difference was found in terms of symptoms and follow-up length, mean age and BMI, mean size of defect, sex, and side. The AMIC cohort reported greater IKCD (p > 0.0001), Lysholm (p = 0.002), VAS (p = 0.01), Tegner (p = 0.004) scores. The AMIC cohort reported lower rate of failure (p = 0.005) and revision surgery (p = 0.02). No difference was found in the rate of arthroplasty (p = 0.2). No delamination or hypertrophy were detected. Conclusion: AMIC demonstrated superiority over MFx for focal unipolar chondral defects of the knee. At approximately 40 months follow-up, the IKDC, Lysholm, and VAS scores were greater in the AMIC group. Introduction: Evidence on the management of chondral defects of the patella arises from studies in which the patellofemoral joint was treated together with the femorotibial joint and primary and revision settings. Furthermore, the superiority of Autologous Matrix Induced Chondrogenesis (AMIC) over microfractures (MFx) for patellar chondral defects is uncertain. Therefore, the present study compared primary isolated AMIC versus MFx for focal unipolar chondral defects of the patellar facet joints at midterm follow-up. Methods: Patients undergoing AMIC or isolated MFx surgery for borderline-sized focal unipolar chondral defects of the patellar facet joints were followed at our institution. All surgeries were performed in the same fashion by experienced surgeons. A parapatellar arthrotomy was adopted in all surgeries. The outcomes of interest were: Visual Analogic Scale (VAS), Tegner Activity Scale, International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC), and the Lysholm scores. The Magnetic Resonance Observation of Cartilage Repair Tissue (MOCART) was assessed by a blinded radiologist, who had not been involved in the clinical management of the patients. Results: 38 patients were enrolled in the present study: 27 underwent AMIC, and 11 MFx. The mean follow-up was 45.1 months. The mean age of the patients at baseline was 34.5 years. The mean size of the defect was 2.6 cm2. The MFx cohort experienced a shorter length of the hospitalization (P = 0.008). There was no difference in terms of follow-up and previous symptoms duration, mean age, sex, side, defect size, and BMI. At last follow-up, the AMIC cohort reported greater IKDC (P = 0.01), Lysholm (P = 0.009), and Tegner (P = 0.02), along with a low rate of failure (P = 0.02). VAS was lower in the AMIC group (P = 0.002). No difference was found in the MOCART score (P = 0.09), rates of revision (P = 0.06), and arthroplasty (P = 0.2). Conclusion: The AMIC procedure achieves greater IKDC and Lysholm score, and a significant reduction of the VAS score in the management of patellar chondral defects. The Tegner scale demonstrated greater activity after AMIC procedure. Finally, the AMIC group evidenced a lower rate of failure.
