Objective: Determine the efficacy o f topically applied 1% acetic acid in burn wounds in eradication ofPseudomonas aeruginosa infection. Study Design: Retrospective observational study.Place: Department of Burns, Civil Hospital, Karachi Duration of Study: Study was undertaken from January 2006 to December, 2009.Patients and Methods: The study included all adult burn patients, aged between 21 to 40 years, o f eithergender who had culture reports showing Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Patients belonged to urban and rural areas,had TBSA (Total body surface area) burnt between 15-35%. All these patients received application o f 1% aceticacid for 10-14 days. Results: Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection was cleared from 65 (90%) out o f 72 cases and wound was freeofPseudomonas aeruginosa infection in 10-14 days. Conclusions: 1% acetic acid is very effective in treating the Pseudomonas Aeruginosa infection in burn patients.In this study on burn patients between 15-35% TBSA, 1% acetic acid was very effective in eradicatingPseudomonas A eruginosa infection in 90% o f the patients.

Objective: To evaluate the effect o f Convallaria majalis on kidney function. The kidneys are vital organs thatperform a variety of important functions in our body. Primary and secondary causes o f kidney diseases producechanges in glomerular filtration rate that m ay leads to kidney failure. Blood parameters such as uric acid andcreatinine are used to assess kidney function. C. majalis (CM) commonly called as Lily o f the valley is aHomoeopathic remedy having valuable action on heart and also has diuretic action. Methods: In the present study, the effect o f CM was investigated on serum uric acid and creatinine, byadministrating orally 70% alcoholic extract o f CM (10 and 50 mg/kg), simvastatin (20 mg/kg), 0.05%dimethylsulphooxide (DMSO, 1ml/kg) and distilled w ater (1ml/kg) to test (A & B groups), positive, negativeand control rabbits respectively for 14 days consecutively once in a day. On completion o f trial, rabbits weresac rificed to co llec t b lo o d and serum was sep a rated to estimate uric acid and creatin in e levels. Results: Out of two tested doses, 10 mg/kg o f CM produced significant decrease in uric acid levels from 10.978.40mg/dL in test rabbits (Test A) when compared with control, negative & positive control groups (p
